Chambre superbe. Cependant mauvaise isolation des chambres donc quand on tombe sur des fêtards 🥴. Fish and chips excellent surtout la purée de petits pois. Accueil chaleureux. J’ai adoré cette convivialité.

Had a brilliant stay with my brother at The Anchor Inn as part of our walking trip doing the Three Lochs Way. We were greeted by the lovely staff who showed us our room and couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. All staff member were brilliant, especially the gent behind the bar who went over and above helping me find suitable material to stuff into my sodden walking boots! It was greatly appreciated and made the following days walk much easier. Food was great and service top notch. Room and bar were lovely, very clean and well stocked! High recommend to anyone visiting Garelochhead ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Food was delicious and fresh, wish we could have stayed for brekkie but had to get to the airport. Thanks so much for a wonderful stay, well worth a visit.

Well have you seen that famous Scottish movie Local Hero with Burt Lancaster. Well if you have then this is the place for you.I got into the bar to register and it was full of the locals. It appeared dark and dingy having came in out of the glorious sunshine across the shimmering loch. I was welcomed by Pacho and Jamie two of the nicest blokes you would want to meet and spend time with. Yes they are both Scots. Very casual and polite. MAKE SURE YOU BOOK YOUR BREAKFAST AT THIS POINT ( the only downside to my visit). The rooms are outback in beautiful whitewashed cottages. The rooms are small but absolutely spotless. The ensuite shower room is immaculate. No wardrobe only a coat hanger rack. The rooms are so good this was not an issue. That evening I went into the bar and it was buzzing. I was alone but everyone was so friendly and ended up getting two pints bought for me. That would not happen in the Hilton! I came down for breakfast and didn't realise there had been a breakdown in communications and l ended up getting someone else's breakfast because l had not booked mine. Spoke to Chris who was the breakfast monitor (Manager) and he was so apologetic. The breakfast was small but really nice. Stornaway black pudding was a delight. Like Local hero outside was really quiet and peaceful with only the sounds of the birds. A great escape from the city. Small boats at anchor in the Loch which is very scenic. I made my way around the Loch and bumped into Anglers fishing for mackeral. They once again were so friendly. One guy offered me a wee dram, which of course l accepted. I wandered along the Loch until I was opposite Faslane Naval base home of our Nuclear defence deterrent. There is constant surveilance around here from the base with patrol boats on the Loch. You can see the Submarines tied up, Very interesting. This is it! Went down for my breakfast and no one was there. No kitchen staff,no one in the office. Went around the building and it was empty. Finally spotted someone through the front door and it was the chef. She told me that breakfast had finished because no one else had booked and they were all gone. I pointed out that my wife and myself were still here. Emptied my stuff into the car and went back to hand my key in but there was no one there. I left my key with a builder and headed off. All in all a fabulous weekend and highly recomended. Thank you to all the staff there you were all stars. You could not plana better weekend. ps; Couldn't pay for the breakfast l had on Saturday.

We found ourselves stranded in Garelochhead. Heading from an overnight stay in Arrochar on our way home to Renfrewshire & East Ayrshire. Due to extreme flooding, fallen trees & landslides, all roads were closed completely. Initially, we went into The Anchor Inn for a 'comfort' break, but found a lovely wee corner (table & chairs) where we were allowed to charge our phones. We decided to order teas/coffees, which we were pleasantly surprised to find, were free of charge for everyone. Good auld Scottish hospitality at it's best. After we'd been there a few hours, we ordered ourselves some food. Two of us had burgers, and two had steak pie. All of us really enjoyed our food, (approx £15 ea). Not long after we'd finished dinner, we were informed that one road had been reopened. For us, it would be a long way round, but worth it, if it meant we could eventually get home that night. We were so grateful for the hospitality shown by The Anchor Inn, and in the future, would consider booking one of their rooms upstairs. On a nice day, it's in the most perfect location. Right by the loch side, beside the Post Office & a few shops. The staff were lovely and the place itself had a very welcoming environment. Well be back, by choice, next time 😊

Arrived and was warmly greeted by the Owner and then shown to my room. The room was really nice and impeccably clean and fresh. There were more than enough clean towels pillows, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits and shampoo in the shower and a dryer (should you need one). Free Wifi with good connection and a charge points. Really nice atmosphere and the staff were really good even in the morning when the chef seemed run off his feet the breakfast was perfect and he was extremely courteous and attentive. I rarely leave reviews but when you receive great service I try and make sure I let people know. This place is the real deal. I actually wish I could have stayed longer and walked along the water front. Really nice place professionally run but with the service you only get from proper family run businesses. Pedimos unos entrantes a compartir £12. Y un plato de cordero cada uno (10,30£). Todo buenísimo, el cordero tierno y rápidos. Los demás platos también tenían muy buena pinta (la hamburguesa enorme). Generous portions of food which was hearty. Well done the background staff. However - we were asked to make sure we all sat in groups depending on what we had ordered as there were insufficient serving dishes to give each person their order individually. This was compounded by the bar running out of certain glasses for drinks as we ended up taking empty glasses back to the bar ourselves. The tin lid was as we were sitting chatting together and towards the end of the evening - the young duty manager made it perfectly clear, through his rude behaviour, that it was time for the group to leave. I am afraid I shall decline recommending a visit to this establishment, in the evening, with family. I hope that this experience is a one-off but from other accounts from locals it may well be more common than not.

We visited here Friday and Saturday evening September 2016 , Friday afternoon we called in on arriving in the village ,knowing it was the only pub we asked to book a table for the evening which was done with the bar staff. The bar/ eating area has only about eight tables , two of which are alongside the pool table . We returned at 6.30 in time for a drink before eating at seven ,the booked time . .We found the place full , mostly locals standing at the bar and what I would guess we're tourists occupying the tables . Unable to get a table we eventually left . Going up to the village in arrochar ,where we enjoyed a good meal.Saturday ,we returned to the anchor around 5 in the afternoon , it was quiet with plenty of table choice . We ordered sizzling beef and steak pie , The sizzling beef my wife assures me was ok , as was my pie , but as a previous review mentions came with tinned peas ,complete with water ! From the tin . .I could only say the meal was ok , staff very friendly . Get rid of the tinned peas and the food would be good basic pub grub.

Stopped here for lunch as the Green Kettle was closed. We didn't expect much due to it being a pub ( a drinkers pub! No fancy cocktails here ) which is fine in itself. If I was having a session with the boys then it would be a Great pub!Ordered the Beef & Ale pie with "creamy mash with spring onion" and my wife ordered Chicken Fajitas. Waited 15 - 20 mins which tells me that it was cooked to order. The pie arrived exactly as described piping hot and a generous portion. No fatty/gristle on the beef just melt in the mouth and the mash was perfect, both delicious!! My wife's fajitas were fantastic !! They were NOT swimming in gravy/sauce as so many are served this way. The chicken was moist and full of flavour coated in the correct spice, the peppers and onions were not over or under done. Again a generous portion.I know it's not hard to mess up steak pie and fajitas but so many places do. The Anchor scores top marks for serving simple, piping hot, very tasty and well presented food. The young man behind the bar served us with a smile, professionalism and politeness whilst taking care of his regulars at the bar. Both main courses were less than £9, great value.Overall we were both very happily surprised to have been served such a nice meal. I can and do recommend the Anchor and if I'm ever going on a "session" in Garelochhead then this is the place for me!!

This was our last stop over before heading back home and we had picked it because of the all the good reviews (all bar a couple). To be fair, the room was very nice; big and newly refurbished. Lovely bathroom and fab shower. The bed was huge and very comfortable indeed! There was a shared area outside the 3 (3?) rooms where ours was located; a kitchenette and tv space. This was a bit odd but it became clear that this place was probably used by people working locally as a notice asked them to remove boots before entering. The views from our windows across the loch were great! Our room was above a local convenience store so we were woken by the metal shutters going up at some early hour (for a Sunday). We found the room rate to be good but people should be aware of the pub/restaurant part of their stay. We had expected pub grub so the very limited menu was no surprise but the small seating area within the main bar was pretty grim; very tired and the seats and tables sticky even after cleaning (which we had to request). The food was cheap and only just about passable. I've never had tinned garden peas in a pub restaurant before .... ! It was very noisy too, the music loud and tv on too .... At least the half dozen children were enjoying the pool table and riding their scooters in there I suppose! Breakfast was the highlight (I'm joking .... ). You have to pre-order the night before to allow them to get your cooked order ready for your chosen time, which is fair enough .... but .... when it did eventually arrive, much of it had been over cooked or kept warm for some time and was inedible! A special slice of Scottish sausage which was too hard to cut, over cooked bacon, shrivelled old mushrooms and crunchy black pudding! To be honest, we did not feel like complaining in front of the other guests and just wanted to leave quickly, but we were so disappointed. The other couple there at the time hadn't booked a cooked breakfast and so theirs did at least appear freshly made when it eventually arrived. I've rated this place 'poor' because of the pub/restaurant. The rooms are fine ..... although already there is evidence of a bit of a lack of care despite the newness of the refurbishment; marks on walls and ceiling in our room, handle missing in the bathroom and on a table drawer ...... I think the owners need to upgrade the bar and restaurant for sure to make this a nice place to stay.

Well worth a visit, we will definitely be going back!

Unfortunately this Inn was not fully booked when I was searching for somewhere to stay so I booked it for myself, daughter and parents - double and twin sea view. The rooms were small and basic but clean except for the windows - so much for the sea view. We only ate breakfast which was okay and reasonable value for money. BUT... we stayed on a Friday night and our rooms were directly over the bar. We had loud music till 1 am, a constant stream of conversations as smokers stood under our window, the sound of glass bottles being thrown into a bin - presumably as the bar staff cleaned up. No quiet till after 1.30am and then woken by loud and busy traffic noise from 6am when I presume the convenience store opened next door. I had thought this would be a little quiet backwater - absolutely not. If you want a decent nights sleep check where your rooms are situated and better still go somewhere else - especially on a Friday night.

The accommodation was fantastic and amazing value for money. We had our evening meal in the pub. Lovely atmosphere and the value and portions of the food in the evening was amazing. We had breakfast after our stay and unfortunately as much as the portion size was massive the quality of the produce (including the very basic orange juice) could be improved. Hence a rating of 3 not 4.

Well I've never written a review in my life, but I was so so happy with my stay that I needed to share!!We booked the double deluxe sea view suite, and it was absolutely gorgeous! Brand new, looked fantastic, and a huge shower! I would go as far as to say it's the nicest room I've stayed in :) such a hidden gem! Just a couple of minutes drive from Faslane which was fantastic for us. The staff were so friendly! I'd had a bit of a sad morning but they cheered me right up, chatting away even after I'd paid for the room! I honestly can't wait to go back here already, one night just wasn't enough! Thank you so much!

The first thing to realise is that this is a village pub. As such it has to cater for as many customers as possible, therefore there is a wide cross-section of patrons from families in for a meal to locals just in for a drink. The decor and surroundings are much like you would expect in a village pub but it is clean and not unpleasant. The barman who has served us on our last few visits is very welcoming and the service is very good. The food is absolutely excellent and I'd be very surprised if anyone complained about the portion sizes. The Aberdeen Angus burger is served with a very generous side salad and coleslaw and hand-cut chips - very tasty. On our visits we have also had the chicken fajitas, fish and chips and chicken burger. The fajitas come with generous portions of wrap bread and salad with the chicken being served on a sizzling iron plate. To summarise, it is a traditional pub, serving much better than average pub food at a reasonable price. A main dish and drinks for four was under £40 and I would say very good value.

We've always loved the Anchor. Though we're not from the village, it was our local for many years, and never disappointed. The Anchor has changed considerably over the last 10 years to the excellent establishment that it is now, and when we can, for us, it's the perfect place for a good old Scottish brunch. It's gotta be the best breakfast for sale anywhere between our home on the peninsula and as far as Glasgow. Try it and see! The anchor is also a licenced bar, has B&B rooms, does great, all day and evening food, has a beer garden out the back, what's not to like?I stand by my comment about the breakfast being the best for miles around.

A quaint, nautically themed Inn, overlooking the splendid Loch Lomond. We arrived late in the evening for an overnight say on business. A warm welcome greeted us on a wet and windy night which was greatly appreciated after a long day of traveling. The host was quick to show us to our rooms which were accessed by a slightly torturous path to an adjoining building. The rooms looked as if they had only just been newly appointed, and although slightly small, had a full sized double bed, large flat screen tv and tea/coffee making facilities and excellently decorated. The room contained an en-suite shower and toilet but a very small hand basin. The shower was electric with a good pressure and plenty warm enough. Talking of heat, the room was rather too warm for my liking and it was not possible to open the window. The only real criticism was that there was nowhere to set up a laptop. Overall very comfortable and the breakfast the following day was excellent, a full grill, toast and coffee was served piping hot.As this Inn is close to our business area it is highly likely we will be using it again.

I call it Debbie's place - you'll know it when you see it! - said several of the locals on Islay. A large group of us visiting the island had spent the morning dotted across it doing various different activities. I'd asked in the brilliant Islay Natural History Trust where locally we could grab lunch and was directed to the Bruichladdich Mini Market. The place itself is run by Debbie, her mum and her sister. It's the ort of place that is the lifeblood of islands the world over - half grocery shop, half cafe - all welcoming. Debbie's sister was in charge when a group of 15 of us rocked up unannounced. This would normally not have been a problem - plenty of outside seating - but that particular day the ferry had been cancelled, along with much of the stock for the shop and cafe. Undeterred the staff there made us feel welcome and pulled together a lunch which went down very well with all - children and adults alike. Think sandwiches and toasties with great coffee and a good choice of cold drinks. They also serve some amazing cakes - I'm told the rocky road was fab, I know the chocolate cake was! Although initially under pressure when we all turned up, the staff seated us happily and we had all eaten within about 15 minutes of arriving.

Visited to celebrate a friend’s birthday. The setting on the shore of Loch Fyne overlooking the ruin of Castle Lachlan is stunning and we were able to enjoy a bottle of fizz outside our shepherds huts where we would be spending the night. After a late afternoon stroll to the castle ruins we were ready for our dinner. The tasting menu served in the evening is locally sourced and is probably the best I have ever tasted. We chose the wine pairing which was excellent and presented beautifully. After a great nights sleep breakfast is delivered to your accommodation and this is another delight. Cannot fault this place
