We walked to the Anchor Inn for a Sunday family gathering, and Wheelie Good Pizza was making FABULOUS pizzas. Having just been to Triple Beam Pizza in Los Angeles, where the celebrity chef, Nancy Silverton, gets rave reviews from Hollywood stars… Wheelie Good Pizza at the Anchor wins hands down!! The Spicy Pizza with Nudja from Sicily is gourmet delicious! The Meaty Pizza is amazing! The kids loved the BBQ Chicken pizza. Thank you Anchor Inn for a wonderful family outing.

The Anchor looked after us exceptionally well for a family group gathering at quite short notice. Communication was excellent and nothing was too much trouble for the friendly and welcoming staff. The location is beautiful and relaxing over looking the river, with ample space to enable a larger group inside and out. But the option to enjoy the views in seclusion if desired. The food was excellent! Charming and welcoming experience which made us all want to visit more frequently. Thank you ☺️

What a lovely pub - right by the river and tucked away in a quaint village. We stopped by last weekend on our way to Evesham and had dinner on the decking outside - not a huge menu but I prefer that and they offered a good gluten free option and had a good conversation with the waiter about flat bread !! The staff were charming and genuine and we had a fantastic meal the Greek style gyros was so yummy and well presented my husband had a juicy burger that was so big and loaded up he struggled to get his chops around it . All in all a superb pub meal in a stunning location - the decking area does need a bit of attention but we overlooked that as ours is the same at home and very expensive to replace - the locals seemed to be flocking here and that is always a good sign

We came across this lovely place on the river and couldnt resist stopping. We were going to stay for only one drink but having read the menu, I persuaded husband to stay on for lunch. The food is amazing. I had Chicken Schnitzel which was delicious and husband had the best and freshest fish and chips. Tony and the waiting staff are all lovely. A beautiful place to while away a couple of sunny hours. Highly frecommend and will definitely be back. Bruce and Janie x

Came here with family. We ordered fish & chips and a pizza. Fish and chips arrived first and peas were cold so had to be sent back. Had a long wait for pizza and staff didn’t seem bothered that we had to wait. In the end there was about 15/20 Minutes between eat dish coming out. Other people had the same issue. All food should be out the same time. A nearby table had ordered food and was waiting for pizzas for their children Food was lovely once it arrived, just shame about the wait as wasn’t told about the pizzas being cooked in separate place.

We were recommended by friends to go try the food that has just started up again. Could not fault the Sunday lunch we had - 10/10. Unfortunately, the barmaid let the experience down for us. She was extremley rude when asked where the toilets were & appeared very loud throughout our meal. A pleasant lunch turned out to be a not so nice atmosphere while we were there. We also noticed a few times, people asking for their beer to be topped up as it was not to the mark, she would then top up but slam the pint down with a dirty look. How can such a great pub set in beautiful surroundings & serving amazing food, allow this to be spoilt by one staff member. Such a shame, lets hope the owners see this & send a secret customer to go & see for themselves what it is like there.

This pretty village pub was such a let down and quite an awful experience for us. The old lady who served us was extremely rude but was very nice to others. The atmosphere was not welcoming at all with drunken people swearing out loudly & the bar staff just thinking it funny. We will not be visiting again unfortunately!

My partner and i are staying at a campsite near by. we decided to take a walk into Wyre Piddle and came across this lovely pub called The Anchor. It has a great beer garden overlooking the river Avon. I enjoy watching the grand prix and as we can't get it on our T.V, I asked the landlady if i came back later could i watch it on their T.V . When we arrived later the lady not only put the T.V on for us but also handed me the control!!! How is that for service 😃. Every member of staff and locals are very friendly. We will certainly be back again next year 🤗.

I have just recently visited this lovely pub and B&B and wanted to make sure I reviewed it to say just how wonderful the customer service and welcome is. I had travelled down after a long day of work and was greeted with much care and enthusiasm. The room was lovely and they were still serving food which was great value for money. I highly recommended this venue as once again it's is one of the best experiences of wonderful customer service I have had in many years! Everyone was welcoming and helpful I cannot fault it . Ordered a pint of Butty Bach which initially appeared a bit cloudy but it tasted ok. Having drank approx 2/3rds if the pint I spotted lots of sediment at the bottom of the glass. We also noticed that the table was sticky & dirty, even though there was 2 members of staff simply standing about talking at the rear of the bar. As it was not what we had expected we decided to leave but before we did we went to the bar where we had to get the attention of a member of staff who when we showed him the sediment, simply said ‘o sorry about that’ We had intended to book a table for 6 later in the week, but we have decided not to bother.

Busy pub lovely views, we had curry very nice. Told the kitchen was busy but sitting by the river on a sunny day is only beaten by sitting by the sea. Dog friendly so all good. A few people complained about the wait for food but they were told its busy and if you don't want to wait for food don't order it. Sorry to be harsh but they were told and moaning at the servers isn't helpful.

Terrible. A stunning location. So so disappointing. Food was actually ok (just ok) service was awful 😞 eating outside in the beautiful setting made me feel like a second class citizen - grab your own cutlery and sauces outside were the instructions. No napkins outside with said cutlery. Horrible sachets of salt pepper and other condiments . Table was filthy and had to ask for it to be wiped . Maybe spend less money on the average live music and get some better staff???? Such a shame. This pub restaurant hasn’t had it right for many many years now. I love locally and WILL NOT BE RETURNING 😞

Once a month me and the girls meet for lunch. We are local to Pershore and keen to support local business' especially during the current climate. I recommended the Anchor as I've really enjoyed my previous visits. Wow, I was embarrassed to of even suggested bringing my friends. We certainly did not receive a warm welcome, we had to ask about the track and trace system as this was not clear. Food choices were limited and our table was filthy. My friend returned her glass with lipstick on to a very unfussed rude Welsh lady. Everything should always be spotless especially during this pandemic. I had fish and chips, soggy fish and frozen chips. One of my friends ordered the steak, it was over cooked so we spoke to one of the waiting staff who we believe to be the landlord. The landlord was rude and abrupt and said what did he want us to do... 'uncook' it?! After a terrible meal and the way we heard him speak (I use this term... loosely!) to his staff we paid and left promptly. I really wasn't happy paying full price and wish I had persisted with my complaint. Incapable management, terrible service and cleanliness standards - FILTHY. DO NOT waste your hard earned money.

We arrived at the Anchor Inn after kayaking from Fladbury. The three of us were starving the pub was a lovely traditional local pub with very friendly and knowledgeable staff. We are 20 year old lads from university so we love our ale and they had a very good selection. We were also very impressed with there menu as when you have to decide between fish and chips and hunters chicken you can only order one of each, as we had a vegetarian in our tribe he still had a good selection to choose from. The seating outside was clean and tidy also very comfy. The food was amazing, the chef and staff did a very good job you won't go hungry as all three meals were a good size for three hungry students, the speed of service was high. We were so impressed with this newly reopened pub that we took back all the empty plates and glasses. Will definitely be visiting this pub by the river many time again.

This was a great pub, great atmosphere, Great Food and very cheerful staff. Now, it's a disaster!! Pub closed down last year, was re-opened with new landlord, who supposedly was going to offer better service, better food, etc, etc,. Never materialsed, chefs have come and gone, staff have come and gone, service and food awful. The only Good thing about this pub, is it's location. I know, because I live in the village, but now never go in. There are much nicer pubs, a short drive away, with happy staff and excellently prepared and served good food. Change the Landlord, the so called Chef and bar staff and it may make a come-back, otherwise it will die once more.

What a shame this is. We waited at the bat whilst the very disinterested young man served those before us. There were dirty glasses and crisp packets left on the bar which he didnt attempt to tidy. I ordered the small portion of beer battered fish and chips, my husband ordered gammon ( with egg or pineapple - he got both). When the meals arrived i was provided with fish fingers! So had to wait for another meal. Quality of food not bad. No cutlery was provided until we asked..... quality of the food not bad, service - non existent! We weren't sure what to order, so one of us ordered the soup and I ordered the Butcher's Faggots with mash and gravy along with the requisite local beers. What fun. The faggots were very rich and so we ended up sharing a dessert. The people watching was great. Another customer ordered a dessert and when it came she commented on the size of the serving. The waiter responded "You should see the size of the chef!" Hope no one gets into trouble for that revelation. The chef knows how to cook.

Visited this pub for food for the first time under the new owners. Overall I was impressed. The food was well cooked, 2 of us had the duck which was on the specials and they were both very impressed. The service was excellent and the staff and the management were very friendly. The children enjoyed their meals and the staff were good with them so I would recommend bringing the family. My only criticism is that not many people were using this pub for food for a Saturday evening so it was a little too quiet, hopefully with more advertising and more good reviews they should be able to bring in more custom. People should definitely come here for a meal.

Having visited this pub several years ago(an enjoyable experience)I recommended to my brother that it would be worth a visit whilst travelling by boat along the River Avon.We moored up at around 11am and waited for the pub to open at 12(it was a Sunday)We were just about to go up when a gentleman who I presumed was the manager wanted to know if we were stopping. We explained that we were just going to come up for lunch and then move on later that afternoon. He was very abrupt and said that he had six boats booked in and that people normally booked!!!!Not sure how we were supposed to know what the phone number was! He told us that boats might moor up abreast and that we might be delayed in our departure. We decided to see what happened and went up for lunch. We found a table outside on the terraces found ourselves a menu and ordered our meal. The food arrived and it was good but not special.Very surprised that there wasnt a sunday roast available. The "manager" then came back to chat to us and asked where we were heading for, when we said Pershore he said we had better not leave it to late or we wouldnt get a mooring! With this statement we drank our drinks and left the pub as I particularly felt I was made to feel very unwelcome. We left at around 1pm ish and apart from a small watercraft overloaded with 7 people there was no sign of anyother boats.Totally disappointed with this visit.

My wife ordered the lasagna which looked good but she never tasted it because the home made pie, new pots and seasonal veg which arrived for me was a burnt pie, a squashed jacket potato and not particularly appetising beans and carrots. The chef was disinterested and the manager who did refund the meal, was unapologetic. I'm easily pleased in general and understand things go wrong but.... enjoy the great setting, avoid the food.

The Anchor Inn sits on the bank of the river, with a multi-level terrace leading right down to the riverside. It is an idyllic spot in a charming little village. It hasn't gone all gastro-pub, yet I had one of the. Most enjoyable pub lunches I have had in a long time. Chicken in wild mushroom sauce doesn't sound exciting, but it was beautifully cooked, the sauce delicious and the vegetables just right. My wife's smoked salmon and prawns she enjoyed and the puddings didn't let the side down. How do you rate a little pub that gives so much pleasure? A Michelin-starred restaurant might seem a natural for five stars. But of its type, the Anchor Inn deserves five just as much.We went to another pub for lunch today and if was awful. When I heard anchor had reopened I was so pleased as you really cannot fault the setting, having visited last year and had some lovely meals. I reserved a table on the terrace, just in case it was busy, we arrived and told staff we reserved, told tables were out there, so we wandered around and eventually found an empty table.. I was so disheartened to see the menu was so scaled down, we both decided salad, two on menu choose from and was very disappointed, few leaves thrown in bowl, two chunks of bread, no butter, couple of very thin slices of chicken and under cooked bacon slice. I'll just visit for a drink next time..

Hello,We had a meal with you (6 people) on the evening of 22nd November 2013. We've been dinning with you for years now and as always the food was very good. However, our overall impression was that the waitress said "sorry" and "unfortunately" far too much. The meal took just over 1 hour from ordering to serving (we were the ONLY people in the restaurant at this point). The very worst part was that it took almost 20 minutes form the first main course until the last of the veg arrived at the table. For me, this in totally unforgivable and by the time the last meal arrived, the first had already been consumed because it was cold. The chips finally turned up almost 25 minutes after the first main course !!! If this was Pizza Hut, I could accept it, but this is a relatively expensive food pub with a descent reputation. We ordered a second bottle of wine, but this took so long to arrive that we cancelled the order! Finally, it took almost 15 minutes from first dessert to last dessert and we left our seats several times to ask for more drinks and to chase desserts, coffee and various other things. We expressed our concern to your waitress (who was clearly working hard) and she could only apologise for the lack of staff, desserts off the menu, 3 different red wines off the menu and the fact that there was only 1 person in the kitchen. This summed it all up really. If you're going to be a descent pub, you need to be descent pub at all times of the year. For me, that's it. I work hard for a living and I am NOT prepared to gamble with that amount of money on a local pub. It's a real shame as it's been fabulous in the past, but was really disappointing this evening.Yours disappointedlyBarry

The menu contains simple pub food but the choice is very good. Amongst our party we had the lasagne, sausage and mash, liver and mash, salmon, ham and chicken pies. All were very very good quality as were the accompanying chips. We also had a selection of deserts sticky toffee pudding and bread and butter pudding were very well received - all made locally by an Aunt of the family.Service was good as were the drinks, value is very good also. Knowing this pub/restaurant quite well, we were surprised to see that a couple of the most recent reviews were less than complimentary. Undeterred we booked a table for a Friday evening (always advisable in this cosy, popular restaurant). On arrival it was clear that our previous enjoyable experiences were set to be repeated. The front of house staff greeted us with a smile, and immediately made us feel at home, seating us at our table, and bringing over our drinks order from a good range of beers and wines. The menu continues to delight, with a good selection of meat and fresh fish choices. Once our food arrived it was clear that all is well at the Anchor - our meals were cooked to perfection, and served with pleasant attentiveness by the staff, who were obviously proud to be making our evening a memorable one. Generous portions, a warm and friendly atmosphere, and good company rounded the evening off. Superb !

There were 4 other people in the room at this point and 1 group outside. The starter was OK but much too large for a starter-could not get much wrong with continental meats. Then the mains-one of our group had whar was described as liver and bacon served on a bed of creamy mash with an onion and wine gravy. When it arrived I wish I had had a camera. There was a huge mound which would have suited a transport cafe. The potatoes were not creamy but watery, cool and lumpy. The pile of liver was tough and there were 2 rashers of bacon thrown on the top. The only decent bit was the gravy. Another had belly pork with plum sauce. The pork was pale and tough, the sauce was inedible. Desserts-the creme brulee was burnt on the top much more than it should have been and the inside was just liquid. At nearly £90.00 for 3 of us it was extortionate. These people need to understand that nowadays we want our food to be seerved attractively. They would do well to visit The Oak at Defford to see how food should be served. The location at the side of the river is beautiful - what a waste.

On a recent visit to see a girlfriend in Pershore we decided to venture out into a neighbouring village -Wyre Piddle. A friend had recommended The Anchor Inn to us and we absolutely were not disappointed! This to me is what an English country pub should be all about - excellent British food, flawless service and an idyllic setting! As it was a sunny day we sat outside in the peace and quiet and watched the boats. There are three levels of seating leading down to the river spiralling off from one another. We sat on the lowest level and it felt like we had our own riverside patio. The food was to die for! I had the pork belly and my goodness! I savoured every bite. What struck me most about this place though was just how friendly and accomodating the staff were. The British are famous for poor service but in this pub it was absolutely not the case - I felt like a local! I highly recommended this place!

We stopped off whilst on our Canal Boat holiday -beautiful location and full of promise - pretty decent mooring for boats- reasonable choice of Ales but not very welcoming, Would not serve just Chips or dessert for the Children. Says children welcome but were made to feel uncomfortable with our teenagers. Bar staff slow and disinterested. What a shame -

Having read conflicting reviews we decided to try this place for ourselves- What a gem! The ham steak I had was excellent, thick and succulent. The chips were chunky and real!! The deserts were all fab.I had sticky toffee pudding which wasn't too sickly and my sister a summer fruit meringue accompanied by 12 fresh strawberries! I went with a goup of 6 adults. The setting was picturesque with many diners eating outside on the different verandas alongside the river in the sunshine. On chatting to one of the locals, we were told this place had gone through bad times in the past but had changed. I and our party all enjoyed our food, service and the setting enormously and would recommend you try it yourselves. Happy eating!.

We had a celebration here for 11 people and we were not disappointed. Food was very lovely. Both fish and steaks were very well cooked and delicious. Some of the accompaniments were small but when asked for more staff happily obliged with extras. Staff were very friendly and courteous. Beautiful riverside setting ideal to sit out in lovely weather. Can get busy so always beat to book!!!

Went there a few months ago for a quick meeting and thought it had a great atmosphere, and decided to try and get back to sample the food. Did so after a day trip out with the family and was to disappointed in the slightest. Within the family we had a mixture of fish and steak. The fish choices were tremendous and were all exquisite lay prepared - great chef. Excellent place to eat.

We've eaten in some great places and this is surely one of them. Absolutely nothing could be criticised, the food was excellent, all staff were exemplary in their attitude and execution of their duties. As for the pub itself, what a location, a hidden gem. This is what a pub and restaurant should be and many others could learn plenty from The Anchor. We'll be back. Sharman and John Davies

First class food. First class service. Value for money. Not fast food so be prepared to wait. It's worth the wait. Thanks to Ken and all the team for bringing a long awaited and overdue first class pub to the village.

The fresh fish was excellent and beautifully cooked, but accompanying salads and garnishes were undressed and dressings had to be requested. The staff were enthusiastic (one waitress was particularly helpful and efficient). The large, south-facing terraces overlook a languid, green river with lots of greenery along its edges, however the potentially charming ambience was spoiled by the constant droning of a large kitchen extract fan which was impossible entirely to escape from. Also, piped music could be rather loud at times, so we don't envy the neighbours. Unfortunately a party of large, similarly undressed (topless) males also supped their pints on the patio on the otherwise gorgeous summer evening that we were there. Luckily, we were early and as the evening progressed it seemed the staff were having more and more diffculty coping with the number of drinkers and diners.

I am always reluctant to give poor ratings, especially when the establishment is inherently fabulous - location, layout etc. However not having been for a few years read reviews with some concern but felt perhaps the unexpected Monday closure was a glitch and gave them the benefit of the doubt. Arrived with friends at 1pm on Saturday 20 July for a pint and a lite-bite - to find no more food orders for half-to-one hour and a rather chaotic bar. Despite very few tables being served and only one table eating inside. Decided to wait and have drinks which involved the young lady taking the order drifting off for ten minutes in the middle of the order - bizarre! Then the food forecast time when orders were to be restarted was moved to one hour (at 1:30pm) and on further questioning kitchen was closing at 2:30pm! Beautiful place, shambolic management in a nutshell.

Not sure how you can go so wrong with a delightful building right on a very tranquil and pretty location on the river.Vegetarian option for main limited to 1 item and so tried to order soup but not allowed alone!...never heard anything so rediculous....we'll just have crisps but they don't even have vege friendly those either!!What about the service? Fawlty Towers obviously used as a training guideThe smiley boy who opened the door for us had the right idea then downhill from there....we were second in the queue to be served when another woman came over and helped her colleague with the huge task of 3 drinks she was working on and then ignored us while jumping to serve a regular who just walked in....Do what we should have done in the first place and drive straight past!!

Travelled 30+miles for lunch with my mother only to find it closed when we arrived about 1pm. No notice advising why or anyone around to explain what was happening. We checked first thing this morning on their web site, which is very very basic, but nothing was said about a closure. Not sure if this is a regular Monday happening although their web advert says they should be open. Lesson is that I guess they expect you to telephone first - obviously not interested in passing/occasional customers.

The restautant offers a comprehensive menu with a good selection, but especially of fish. They only carry a limited amount of fresh fish each day, so you need to accept that when the item has run out, it gets crossed off. My co-travellers enjoyed the fish and were all very happy with it. I went for the steak and was very impressed with it. Service was excellent. We ate inside, and then retired to comfortable seating outside facing the water - beautiful and relaxing. I had been worried following recent reviews, but following personal recommendation gave it a go, and was very happy.

last year we visited the Anchor on my birthday 26th June so we thought we would do the same again this year . we are boaters and had geared the trip to going as last year the food was fabulous . I am sorry to say the 21 miles to arrive here on the day were all in vain. booked in for 7 pm so we were pretty much the first to order . reading the menu off a couple of boards attached to the bar is not the best in my book as it feels like you're against the clock a bit . the starter I had ordered wasn't available but what we did get was fine if not a bit bland . our two steaks for main were shocking . we are not the type of folks that complain in restaurants even though we have every reason to . we just pay the bill and never go back which you may say is not the way to do it as the chef won't realise otherwise . when a steak comes out rare instead of medium rare then I would say the chef is not up to the task . it wasn't a fine line either . if I am going to be charged £17.95 for a steak it could be at least cooked correctly . I had mine blue, which it was but not the warmest . both steaks were tough to cut which topped it off . my partner took her steak back to the boat for the dogs . they enjoyed it . a real shame as last year it was faultless . I would like to add the staff were very friendly but we will not be returning anytime soon .

Read the recent reviews, thought we'd try for ourselves, big mistake! Scallop starters came with the roe, apparently " to prove they are fresh" more likely to give some taste.Main course, 1 very chewy supposedly slow cooked belly pork. 1 venison & pork pie, forgot to mention the carrot & mushroom padding. Not charged for the pork but please avoid like the plague, this really is a place trying to be something it is a country mile from being. Sorry!

We saw the mixed reviews but went on a recommendation from friends, with whom we ate at the Anchor. Oh, how disappointing. I'm not accustomed to writing reviews like this but I've just eaten far better for 2/3 the money this lunch time than we did a short while ago at The Anchor.Although we couldn't fault the service, friendliness of staff or comfort, frankly the food did not come up to scratch. How anyone can make a mess of scallops is beyond my ken, but someone did, and it was all so unnecessary.I'm a seafood fan and don't mind raw when it's called for - oysters, perhaps - but why did the scallops come out uncooked with barely warmed pancetta (gristly at that) and black pudding? No mingling of flavours and an altogether unpalatable meal. I took it in better heart than I felt to keep everyone on track and not put a nail in the evening's humour, but I see no reason to give a glowing report when I know that, just 10 miles distant, I can get real value and a wonderful meal.Pull your socks up Anchor.

"Disappointed Ladies that Lunch" a group of colleagues went to The Anchor today for lunch, got there are 12 noon, doors not open, lots of painters doing up the outside, Not a problem, went in started to order food, two options showing on the board not available...all order, went out on to the decked area to enjoy the sunshine, painters outside.. some of us stepped in wet pain... no signs anywhere... had a bit of a giggle... my Chicken and Avocado salad arrived... well we should have said salad with chicken garnish, £9.95 and got three very skinny slivers of chicken, complained, the manager came out and said that's what you get if you want more chicken then you have to pay another £1.95.Wont be going there again, heard some bad reviews prior to going, but thought we would give it a go due to the location, but definitely not a user friendly pub and food not good value and not up market enough to carry this price bracket.

After the glowing reviews for this inn, I am afraid I have to put a dampener on it.It was dinner for four. On arrival the inn was virtually empty and the manager was standing by the bar doing something with a bill. Now in most places the reception person would look at the new arrivals, and at least say good eveniing , I'll be with you in a minute. Not this one, who just blanked us. After a couple of minutes standind in a gaggle at the bar one of the waitresses talked to us and directed us to a table. The menu is chalked up on a number of blackboards below the bar counter. It is extensive to say the least. Mainly fish in a variety of sauces and some meat dishes. In general prices are are the top of the range for a good restaurant. Unfortunately with a menu as extensive as theirs it is virtually impossible to see how they could prepare the dishes freshly to order, so I guess the freezer and microwave feature quite often in their kitchen. Two of our party were happy with their dishes but I unfortunately opted for the lambs liver and bacon. The serving was large but the liver was not hot and tasted more like calves liver. It was crumbly and soft like it had been stewed. The bacon was crunchy and there was very little sauce. I asked the waitress why there were no onions in the dish, being a traditionalist, but was told that there are sometimes, but not today. My friend had the slow cooked belly pork, again it looked like it had been pre prepared. and was anaemic. One of the party had a sweet, fresh fruit and meringe. The latter was like toffee. After struggling for several minute a knife was requested to cut it. But having achieved a mouth sized piece her teeth became glued together, so finally the dish was rejected and we refused to pay for it.It is a shame, that the chef is not up to muster. It is a lovely location, and the serving staff are excellent. I think that they should concentrate on fewer dishes and at least have one or two specials which are freshly prepared.

We recently called in on spec on a Sunday lunchtime on the way back from a trip to Broadway, 3 couples and one dog. We were welcomed royally, especially the dog, who was offered his own plate of Yorkshire pudding! Nothing was too much trouble and the food was first class, the service friendly. It wasn't warm enough on that day but it would be lovely next time to sit outside and enjoy the view along the river. Lovely.

Having known this pub in its good days and its bad days its a pleasure to see it at its best again.Like many pub/restaurants these days the operators want to turn these sites into something they are not.,Well done to Ken and his hard working family and staff, they have put this place back on the map again by bringing back the traditional values associated with a country side hostelry serving a good range of beers /a well stocked range of wines and spirits, and high quality fresh food. Service is spot on with food being checked at the table after every course .Its a pleasure to be greeted by mine hosts ,well done keep up the good work

Having heard excellent reviews from friends and knowing the chef from the star, we finally visited and wished we had not. Very expensive and the food was not special, very good service but small portions of mains and vegetables at inflated prices. I had the port belly and it was mainly fat and tastless, wife had cod, not much of it. Should have gone to the Oak and Woodmancote

Now been here several times because the food is excellent. Guest beers are changed regularly. All the food is cooked to order slow you have to be at your table for the time booked or else service could be slow. It is lovely to have a local pub/restaurant that specialises in fresh fish. All the staff are very friendly and you are made to feel welcome and never rushed from your table because they want to seat more guests. As I said I have been here many tomes now and would say the cost per person for 3 courses, including a couple of drinks, is about £35

I recently enjoyed a week’s holiday on a narrow boat on the Avon (bar the rain) we stopped at the Anchor on a lovely sunny day, there was a mooring available and we stopped for afternoon drinks in the beer garden and moored overnight, we visited their restaurant which was lovely, only down point is the menu is written on a large blackboard that you have to pick your choices from, this is ok for most people but 1 of my companions does like to spend her time perusing the menu before she decides, I started with the wild mushrooms on toast which were brilliant, if a little too large, and followed with the stuffed chicken, my husband had mussels followed by calves liver which could have fed a family of 4, none of us has any complains as we waddled back to our boat.

Can't fault this establishment. Very friendly licencee and staff. Excellent seafood dishes and steaks.at a reasonable price. The starters are larger than some mains at some pubs. We have eaten at the Anchor twice now and would go back again for delicious food in a friendly pub with comfortable surroundings and views of the river. When we asked for wine, the waiter talked us through the wine list - which was so much more interesting than being given a wine list. Delicious house wine and good real ale too. A great choice of food - lots of fish and seafood - the scallops were excellent and so was the Coq au Vin. Sadly we had no room for the desserts.
