This used to be a very nice traditional pub, with a good menu - what a difference a year makes! Bar moved, decorated in dull blue colour making the place look drab & uninviting. Barely anything on the menu bar fish & chips! Only 4 other diners in the place & like us were driven out due to thumping drum & bass music --- is that necessary at lunchtime?!? Won't be going back anytime soon.

We stumbled across this place on the way back from a long day out. We were lucky to get a table ant dinner time in high season and were made to feel incredibly welcome. The food came quickly and was excellent. Next time we’re up here we will definitely be going back!

Nicely decorated. Can’t comment on food but in the 45mins I spent there three meals were returned from other diners. Lovely place and friendly welcome. Can’t say the same for the manager. Have to say it is by far the worst pint of Guinness I’ve had in my life! Hopefully Guinness will be in touch for some training very soon. Chose to move on and eat elsewhere.

We agreed to meet up with friends to celebrate our daughter finishing her MSc. As so many of the eateries around here are focussed on fish (which she won't eat) and shellfish (which I can't eat) the menu here seemed good, and we were pleased to pay a visit to somewhere we regularly visited on holidays many moons ago. We sat outside due to it being too hot to leave the dogs in the car, and it was at times noisy due to the proximity of the road, but we had a lovely large table which sat the 5 of us comfortably and the food was good. It's nothing exceptional but it's just 'good solid pub food'. Daughter torn between the Grilled halloumi sweet chilli sandwich, the southern fried chicken sandwich or her favourite 'battered sausage' - nice for her to have a choice. I had the cod - not the largest fish but nicely cooked. We all agreed we'd go back - good food done well and served nicely ticks a lot of boxes in our book.

This would have been a 4or 5 star 🌟 but sadly the bar person was grumpy and rude answering his phone whilst serving us . I understand it is under new management, maybe a rethink on customer service would be beneficial.

Booked online, confirmed online, turned up and was offered the menu but they only had fish and chips...were let down by 'a delivery'. Couldn't they have emailed me? Poor stock management and there are several shops not far away to get emergency stock. The Anchor was my favourite pub when run by two lads a number of years ago. They had a great varied fresh food menu and chowder to die for. This was my first trip to the pub under the new management. Had, to date, been put off by the limited menu they were offering...didn't expect it to be quite THIS limited. A lovely summer's day lunch was had instead at the Wiveton Cafe down the road. Not good enough Anchor...will not be coming back.

Average pub 1. The staff kept the main doors open despite there being flies everywhere - we had to move tables three times and ended up leaving before we’d finished our meals 2. Our meals arrived without cutlery and we had to ask for some, despite being one of only three tables with anyone at them 3. The staff were very friendly and pleasant

We booked the manor in June last year and turned up and the restaurant was closed no notification and couldn’t get hold of anyone. Booked again for today and had a phone call at 11am this morning, which we didn’t pick up as was driving, no message nothing. I rang back at 3pm and they said due to a technical issue they had to close. Couldn’t get a table for 4 anywhere on a Saturday night. What a disappointment and no apology.

We came here last year and were pleased with the menu choices and standard of the food. We decided to go back this month and were really disappointed, such a shame. The food has gone down hill, the menu has changed (and not for the better). The "Easter" burger with a hot cross bun was SO odd, and did not work. The breaded chicken is clearly not homemade, it tasted like the frozen stuff you buy in supermarkets. The battered cauliflower was not great, bad batter. The steak sandwich was much to be desired. It was completely dead on a weekend lunch time, which says a lot, no atmosphere. The "fish and chips" pub is so limiting I just feel it's not working, clearly tried to expand the menu by added burgers, steak dishes etc. but nothing is done well. Would recommend making the menu smaller and doing all those things really well, rather than lots of different things that are all pretty average. Would say if people want fish and chips then they'll go to a fish and chips shop (too many good ones on the coast already to compete!) The pub itself is lovely and has great potential with the fact the decor has been done well etc. the staff are also really good, cannot fault them and they deserve better food to match that!! We wouldn't go back unless we see some kind of change.

We came away for an 80th birthday party. From the outset, clearly a very friendly, warm and inviting pub. Beer is very good, wonderful atmosphere. Had a great conversion about the menu with Jordan which is always good to know as he was cooking. Came back later for dinner and wasn’t disappointed. We tried the corn dins to start and they were superb. Mains were cod, steak and the Easter special burger with a hot cross bun bap. All excellent and plenty of it. Not a bad thing for those with a hearty appetite. Pudding was a doughnut battered cadburys crème egg, oh my god. Devine. Looked after by Marcus all evening. Great evening and thanks.

It was lunchtime so didn't try the beer (driving a long way) - the young staff were charming, polite and efficient; we ordered fish and chips twice, a pot of tea - it came out very quickly, was delicious and the pot of tea was big and a very generous helping. Our only slight reservation was that the chips were a little dry - I suspect they were oven chips, deep fried perhaps. Other than that small thing, really enjoyable

This seems to reopen under new management every few years, we stopped for lunch yesterday. It gives the impression that someone has fairly recently given it another makeover, this time it appears to want to be a coastal fisherman's pub- suspect it was once . Had fish and. hips, they were fine. Wwe were the only 2 people in the pub at 4pm on Sunday, maybe if the music volume was a little lower and the welcome a little warmer they would attrack more custom, look forward to the next next makeover....

We stopped here late on Sunday afternoon / evening on a bleak midwinter day, having endured a 4 hour drive from Ealing with 3 restless children and an even more restless wife. We just wanted to stop somewhere and have a bite before reaching our Holiday let in Blakeney. As we entered I noticed on the door that the place stopped serving food at 6pm and closed at 7 on a Sunday. As us weary travellers entered we were met with a warming welcome and an infectious smile, we were advised the kitchen closed at 6pm (In about 5 mins) but they would let the chefs know we were here and that there was no rush. We were shown to a nice big table in the restaurant and given menus, children’s menus & boxes of crayons. Drinks orders were taken and delivered. The chap looking after us took our order asking us if we had allergens or intolerances, my eldest daughter has a peanut allergy which was not a problem. The young waitress brought sauces and was an absolute pleasure to talk to. Overall a really pleasant experience; food, excellent; service, spot on; ambiance, nailed! Soft lighting and a lovely large glass holder with flickering candle on each table and soft background music (unfortunately drowned out by my screaming toddler). A couple of really nice points I have to mention As my youngest became unruly and loud, the staff noticed and promptly changed the background music to nursery rhymes this soon gained his attention and promptly quietened him down; well done I thought. While we were waiting for our food the chap brought over some pieces of paper and challenged us all to a paper aeroplane making competition, not the usual activity you would expect to find in a restaurant but it did wonders for my restless children. Well done and thank you The Anchor.

Last min booking when visitors turned up. we’d been to this pub a few times before and had a really nice meal so to see it as just a “ fish and chip bar” was hugely disappointing ! We love the groups other pub the Bluebell at Langham, As we have a young grandson and dogs the unsecured garden on the busy road doesn’t work for us so no daytime visits. It’s much the same inside so we love the different areas to eat. It’s all of course subjective, my wife loved her chicken schnitzel and sweet but it’s a glorified chip shop ! Beer choices were poor as well when we have some great breweries nearby, no decent bitters ! Moongazer, Woodfords ( not wherry) Adnams etc We’ll go back when it becomes a proper restaurant ! If I want fish and chips I’ll head to Frenchies at Wells Tip ! We need more proper fish restaurants with all the wonderful fish we land locally !

Restricted menu choices. We'd previously been a number of times and were very pleased. On this occasion, we ended up at The Morston Anchor as we had family visiting and hadn't booked anywhere, this was the only place we could get in at short notice. My sister and I had the chicken schnitzel, which was delicious, and an awesome chocolate pud. Husband was particularly disappointed as he was on a diet and had no reduced fat options from which to choose, so had the fish and simply left the batter. Staff were friendly.

Saw this place advertised in a local magazine and decided to give it a go. The staff were great, the vibe of the venue was really lovely. We chose to sit in the cosy bar area rather than the restaurant. There isn't many options on the menu but it's an eat-in fish and chip shop. However, the food is really good. The chef was accommodating to our needs. Would return if over that way again!

Since this place changed hands, it has been ruined, pure and simple. The management of the Harper (who have brought it under their umbrella) seem to need to theme everything they run. This was a great pub with regular drinkers and solid food. It has become a 'fish and chip pub'. Ok we thought, that's ok, at least it's open. But no. One side is for diners, the other (which is the lovely old bar and adjoining rooms) is now for 'takeaway' meals and they serve the food in cardboard boxes. The service is horribly bad. No one coming anywhere near the table for half an hour in an empty pub and the noise of laughter from the kitchen echoing around that horrible cavernous room they call the dining room. Greasy tables. Condiments in sachets. The fish and chips is ok but last summer, we arrived at about 7 to scenes reminiscent of the fall of Saigon, every table in the place covered in half eaten food, people baying for attention, followed by an announcement that 'the kitchen was closed' for the remainder of the evening. At 7pm on a Saturday in August. These people need to stop taking over local pubs and ruining them and just take a deep breath and start over. There are plenty of places you can get great fish and chips on this coast, combined with a great atmosphere and a varied menu. People are not stupid.

We spend Christmas in Morston most years, and were happy to say that after missing it last year and during COVID, I feel that the new owners have put something different on the menu, the service was warm if not a little busy, lovely atmosphere and wonderful food. We visited this characterful Norfolk pub today as part of the extended Norfolk Restaurant Week promotion. A warm welcome from the manager and the young lady behind the bar, both very knowledgeable about the range of beers and spirits on offer. A very comfortable table next to the log burner ( it was cold, grey and wet outside) and an excellent menu choice from the special menu, representing about a 38% discount on the a la carte pricing. My wife started with the whitebait and I had the smoked salmon mousse with “”proper” carta de music, both portions well presented and of a generous size, the smoked salmon mousse would happily feed two. The theme continued with our main courses, we both had haddock, chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce. We enjoy our food, but had to admit defeat about two thirds through - but the remainder were doggy bagged and will provide an excellent lunch tomorrow. And the cloakrooms were immaculate. We would happily return for the “full price” menu as we both have our eyes on the Brancaster mussels - just 17 miles away!! Highly recommended.

All the staff were wearing masks and the tables were well spaced out, menu was a bit limited but fine with us, we both had the crab salad for mains which was very nice with new potatoes. we both had starters and ice cream and sorbet for dessert and wine and water with our meal. Staff were very pleasant and helpful - we would dine there again when we next visit North Norfolk.

Once again, the Anchor fitted us in at short notice and provided us with a great meal, in spite of staff shortages at this tricky time. As always good service and delicious food. Thank you and well done.

Wonderful lunch in the courtyard area. The food was delicious and service from staff was first class. Despite us turning up and hour early for our booking, they were totally accomodating and allowed to move our table to from inside to the courtyard. We'll definitely be back soon.

This is a very nice coastal pub. My only complaint, and it was nobody's fault, was that it was a bit chilly.Service, and food, was very good, as usual, though lack of staff seemed to have rendered part of the premises unused. This is a reasonably priced establishment serving good ordinary food and is one of our favourites in North Norfolk. My wife's requirements for gluten-free food were well understood, and met.Nice to see them open for business again, albeit socially distanced in these difficult times.

We just called in here to escape from the rain at lunch time, and we’re very pleasantly surprised by everything. The staff were all friendly, polite and helpful, the decor was lovely and the food was gorgeous. My husband had a wonderful plate of fish and chips and I had the best Shepherds’ Pie I have ever eaten. Only wish we were staying closer (we were in Cromer) so we could have called back and sampled more of the menu!

We arrived without reservations and were quickly taken to a table in the courtyard as we had a dog and it was nice weather. Waiter was very pleasant and quickly said it might be slow as staff were short. As it turned out the meals came promptly. The hake special was excellent. My wife had two starters. The chowder was again excellent. Aspalll’s cider perfect accompaniment. The staff make the covid stuff recede instead of dominating everything. Thoroughly recommend!

I don’t usually leave reviews but we had such a nice time here that I couldn’t not rave about it. Sat out in the garden with the dog on a warm day in half term where everywhere was busy and everything here was just perfect- friendly staff, quick service, incredibly tasty and fresh food, great home made ice cream and lovely surroundings. Our first meal out in 18 months due to COVID and we thoroughly enjoyed it. A total gem to stop in if you are in the area.

Popped in after a swim to have a smoked haddock chowder. This was a starter but substantial enough for a main. Local beer on tap, which is great. Lovely intimate atmosphere with very friendly and helpful staff.

So pleased we came here on our last evening in North Norfolk. Immaculately cooked pollock, fantastically fresh crab, delicious dessert and great service considering they are short staffed. I will return again and again!

This lovely looking pub was closed when we strolled up halfway through a walk, but the friendly landlord came out to see us and explain. He was very helpful and gave us lots of useful local information – including the correct way to say ‘Stiffkey’! We’ll definitely be back when it’s open!

Had table booked but unable to park as full. Friend is disabled and told we couldn’t park outside and told to go half a mile away which would be too far to walk and also very dangerous as no footpaths. Had to cancel table. So disappointed

We had walked from Morston to Cley and back on the Norfolk coast path and were late (but phoned ahead and all was OK), thirsty and hungry. The Anchor was, as ever, up to the challenge. From the extensive menu my partner selected whitebait as a starter and I chose a "starter sized" Brancaster mussels. It was huge, I can't imagine what a main course would look like! For main course my partner chose another starter, a selection of warm breads and dips whilst I had the fish and chips. Both were huge and we struggled to do them justice, as a result of which we passed on dessert and simply had (excellent) coffees. The pub grows in popularity which is well deserved. It has a warm, friendly ambience, dogs are welcomed and the staff are excellent.

The halibut was delicious , and even though I’m not a lover of polenta, the polenta chips were something else. My husband tucked into mussels and fish and chips. A glass of wine by the fire, how else would you spend a Friday afternoon!!

This place had a much better atmosphere than most we had visited on our break and really we really enjoyed our meals. Stand-out dishes, Halibut, Lamb, and Halloumi were absolute winners. Service was great and dogs are welcome. Shame they are going in to Lockdown again from Thursday but will be sure to return another time.

I had just walked from Morston to Cley via Blakeney and back to Morston as an invigorating morning's walk and needed something to eat and a drink. The Anchor met both requirements. However, I had not realised that you needed to book; in the past I had just walked in. Nevertheless they found me a seat and a table very quickly and I knew what I wanted: a pint of Wherry and the seafood chowder. It arrived very quickly and was up to the usual standard. This is a perfect walker's pub and has become very popular. They have managed to cater for the Covid restrictions very well

I don't like to be hard on restaurants at this time, they need all our support, but equally, diners have less disposable cash and need to know they get good value. The service at the Anchor Inn was reasonably prompt but lax and careless. One of the waiters was so loud, we learnt of her scuba diving hobby, travelling from Mombasa and working in a zoo from across the room. The room itself is rather bleak, we understand the need to declutter but some tealights on each table would have improved the atmosphere. We ordered fish and chips, the halibut from the specials, and three burgers: one with no gherkin, lettuce or sauce. The fish was good and mushy peas very nice, halibut was tasty (once seasoned) but much too small for a pub meal and a steal at £17. Two burgers had brown rolls and one a brioche bun. One arrived with no sauce and the 'special' one had sauce and no tomato. For desert we ordered 2 servings of sorbet, 2 crumbles with custard and a sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel ice cream, once told the brownies and vanilla ice cream had run out. A waiter arrived and said he brought 'some cutlery' : 3 spoons for our party of 5, which meant we later had to ask for more spoons. They ran out of sorbets and were for some reason not able to bring them at the same time, my husband was told he would get 2 scoops now ' and 2 later'. The 2 later ones never came. The sticky tp, had no ice cream on, and the crumbles arrived with no custard. This did come later but was curdled and we had to send it back. They were unable to make new so we settled for pouring cream. I felt for the waiter who did what she could and was very apologetic if in a bit of a casual, laughing way, 'oh, we are having such a nightmare with the kitchen tonight'. This is diners hard earned cash who are going out to have a relaxing and good experience. We weren't automatically offered a discount or coffee on the house or similar which would have been appropriate. Three deserts was however taken off the bill once we mentioned the numerous shortcomings which was appreciated. I appreciate times are tough at the moment but that makes it even more important to offer a great experience to customers. Unfortunately I would not return to the Anchor Inn or recommend it to friends. There is an array of cosy pubs along the Norfolk coast who have managed to consistently get things right.

We had the jacket potato with tuna mayo served with a small salad. Really enjoyed the food in this quaint ancient pub. We just had to have the apple pie and custard to finish and we were not disappointed it was superb. Highly recommend our choice in this great pub.

Didn't have any food here so can't comment, Had a couple of drinks prices a little expensive but service was good and friendly There's mooring outside which is £10 but £5 redeamable if you order food. Would recommend this pub especially if you boating

Not a lot of choice, too fancy food not cooked brilliantly, over priced. The pub needs to serve more traditional pub fare. Service not great, we were forgotten about on numerous occasions during our sitting.
