Mixed feelings with this one. We had large fish and chips which is a good sized portion, the chips are really nice and the batter on the fish was perfect. Unfortunately the fish was slightly over cooked and a bit dry also a bit thin. If the fish was cooked a bit better this would be up there with the best. The staff are friendly and place is very clean and tidy.

Simply the best fish and chips I've ever eaten and it's our Saturday night treat all over the country. Seved by Lily what a credit to her job, Demi gave us our order and again a pure credit smiles and politeness their top priority. Then Tyler who was making a great job of the tidiness and cleanliness of the establishment. The food was very well priced, good portions, cooked to perfection. Everyone needs to experience this wonderful eatery So thank you all hopefully the bosses treat their amazing staff as well as their staff treat the customers Rachel

Lovely chips! Quick service. Napkins and proper wooden forks automatically given instead of asking and paying extra. Definitely be back.

1st time here, we’ve tried different fish and chips shops around the bay, when we’re here visiting, and we can truly say it’s one of the best we have had, the fish was plenty filling and chips was lovely too

Was more happy with they food and atmosphere really than they actual service

We had to wait for part of our order (they briefly ran out of chips) having already been given everything else. This was just shy of a ten minute wait. However, this was a small oversight and didn't ruin our experience. Staff were quick to clean tables. General vibe was really friendly. The batter on the fish was exactly as I like it, thick, crispy and bubbly. Decent price for quality and quantity of food.

Sorry to say but the Fish and Chips was the worse we've ever tasted. We actually left the food it was that bad. Staff lovely and friendly and the place was clean but the food especially the fish was absolutely disgusting.

I feel compelled to leave a review for this establishment, having visited the resort on Wednesday. My mate and I had a day out in Scarborough and having completed a 12 mile trek felt a bit peckish and fish and chips are the order of the day at such times. We couldn't make our mind up as to where to try. I thought the Anchor might have not been as traditional local chippy looking for my taste, looking ultra modern and a little corporate from the outside. I was looking for a small side street chippy that probably had the best sized potions and tastiest fayre. Anyway a couple were eating their purchases on the patio overlooking the sea.....the portions looked generous!! My mate said, let's try it.....and so we did. The order arrived within a few minutes. I normally request a lightly battered fish, as I'm not a big batter fan...I'm glad i forgot to ask....!!!! I have never tasted such a light and crispy batter in my life! It was fantastic!!! The portions were large, the chips were perfect and the fish was to die for!! The staff were friendly and welcoming. We sat on the outside patio with fabulous views and savoured the feast! I have to say this was without doubt the best fish and chips I have ever had. Absolute Perfection!!! I would recommend an extra category of excellence for Trip Advisor to add for excellence such as this.

Visited recently. Our fish and chips were very nice, but I was particularly impressed with the cleanliness of the restaurant and really liked the decor especially the rolling videos of life in bygone Scarborough. Would recommend and return.

Ordered a Fish and Chips, Large Coke and a Curry Sauce. It came to around £13. The chips were brilliant, which is saying something because I'm really fussy with them sometimes. The fish, on the other hand, is to die for. The fish itself is like a whale. It tastes out of this world, the batter is perfect, the fish is super fresh and the curry sauce was amazing. Struggled to finish the last few bites but it was honest to goodness, the best fish and chips I have ever had and when I return to Scarborough, I will no doubt be popping into this local gem again. 10/10 for everything!

Just posted a review on trip advisor but will do it here too. By far the best fish and chips I have ever tasted. The fish was huge and super fresh, the chips were amazing and the curry sauce was gorgeous. The staff were very polite and amazing. Even spoke to the cook to tell him how nice everything was and to thank him for such brilliant service. Definitely visiting again once I return to Scarborough. Keep up the amazing work!

Very nice Fish and Chips, good sized seating area which was kept clean as well as a nice seating area outside. Despite how busy it was the service was still fast and efficient

I ordered a large fish for my dinner, which was freshly cooked. They gave you an order number and call you when its ready. The batter was very crispy, but I noticed how little fish that batter contains. It seems that ten quid gets you a thin slice of a fillet these days. Anyway, as it was fish that I wanted rather than batter, I won't buy there again.

Great service, delicious fish and chips and a great view of the harbour. So pleased that it was easy for the wheelchair to enter and find a table.

What a lifesaver. Arrived in Scarborough at 5:45pm on the last Saturday of the year to find all the big chippies closed !!! Clearly not interested in earning any money. This place was thankfully open. Big portions, good value and decent food. Much needed

Wandered around Scarborough in the evening looking for fish and chips. Found this place and I'm glad we did. It was delicious food and lovely service from friendly staff. Would highly recommend.

A friend and I had fish chips and mushy peas overlooking the harbour. The cafe was clean, and easily accessible as I am disabled. It had a good toilet for disabled which was for me essential. The decor was excellent showing pictures of past fishing in Scarborough and my friend commented on how interesting he found it having recently moved to the area,( the reason for my wife and I visiting). The fish was freshly cooked, and I haven’t had batter as light and tasty as this for years. The chips and peas were supplied in quantity and again very well cooked. The bench sets were a good idea as families sat together sharing the excellent food. My reference to pigeons comes from the fact that the doors are automatic and as such when they opened a couple of pigeons wandered in to sample the delights of scraps on the floor near to where a small child sat, she being fascinated and entertained, trying to feed the visitors. The staff and owner escorted them out( the pigeons that is), but they cleverly returned 5 minutes later. I strongly recommend this cafe, and if you’re in town you will not be disappointed with the quality. Superb!

Fish and chips tasted great, good price, the seating layout is something i'm suprised is rare and more places should setup to flow customers at busy times. Staight away i noticed some televisions some with old photos of the local fishing trade and the others above the till! It took me back to finding my older brother's Viz mags and opening up a new world of having a laugh evenly at both sex's, looking at my 5 year olds expressions when he was reading out loud about a lasses t1ts! was genuinely helarious as he was extremely thrilled by what he was seeing but couldn't quite desipher what he was laughing about. Staff welcoming and friendly and got everything correct, even kids drink prepared straight away so he can get ready for his meal. This Fish and chip shop is literally an Anchor of the community, our new eatery when we're at this part of the country.

We were a little worried about returning here after seeing a few reviews but we usually go here every year when we visit. I’m glad we did as the food was as it usually is when we visit, lovely and tastey. We get a large fish and chips to share and the fish was super nice and batter was delicious. Chips were crisp and just what we needed. We will be back next year when we visit again.

Quick,light snack at the Anchor and very pleased with the cod,chips and mushy peas. The batter was so flaky and light and even though the order was a small one,the cod was big with plenty of chips. Very tasty and enjoyable meal. Good,friendly service. Plenty of seating places around.

Had Haddock and chips place was very busy, short wait for food. Sat inside chips were lovely fish not so good. I'm not sure it was even Haddock.

Visited today for fish and chips and OMG what a treat. All cooked fresh to order and was so lovely. Nice to sit on the seafront and enjoy with a nice glass of wine. Very reasonably priced and gorgeous

Food was excellent well made shop was extremely busy staff apologised it tuck a while for our food staff were very polite.

Every time we go to Scarborough we go to the Anchor for fish & chips,great atmosphere,always busy,you have to wait awhile for food but its worth the wait,excellent food,one happy customer 😄

Great affordable food, lots of seating and great customer service

We called here on 18th August while staying in Scarborough for the weekend. The service was excellent and priced quite reasonably in this day and age. The fish was amazing in a lovely golden and crisp batter and the chips were well cooked too. Thwre is a wealth of choice for fish and chips in Scarborough so I can't say if its the best or not but we enjoyed it.

Not sure what's happened recently but the fish is being over cooked and the fish batter is too thick. so even though I have been coming to Anchor for years I'm going to try somewhere else next time

Outstanding chips fish and mushy peas. Batter was crisp and not greasy in the least. Cooked to order so less than a few minutes wait. We ate around 3.30pm so wasn't overly busy, lots of room inside and out. Staff were delightful, friendly and helpful. Lovely warm sunny day, floors being cleaned, tables and benches wiped down almost as soon as the customer vacated. Even had a glass of prosecco! Visited the disabled loo which was clean and 100% better than the public loos you have to pay 40p for!

Great place, huge amount of choice, friendly attentive staff,cooked to perfection I would recommend it to anyone.

A last minute decision to come for fish and chips at 8pm on a Sunday….most places were already closed…had regular fish and chips and it was HUGE!!! Very tasty!!!

Went yesterday not as good as last year. Really small fish. Looked like a pensioners fish even though I paid for a regular fish. Won't be going back on next visit. Really disappointed.

Lovely fish and chips! The mushy peas and curry sauce are the best I’ve had in Scarborough and I’ve tried a lot of places. Service good, didn’t have to wait long and there was 6 of us. We’ll be back it’s only a ten min walk for us.

Love this lovely sea front cafe. Third time holidaying in Scarborough. And we eat her everytime. Spotless and clean. The food amazing as always. Huge portions. And lovely friendly staff. Thankyou again and see you next year.

Ordered fish and Chips Ordered.Unfortunately very disappointing about the fries and the fish Fish didn't taste like anything very neutral and the fries were very soft and soggy. unfortunately a very cheap fish they use. My tip to Anchor for the future Cod as a fish .

Value for money, the portion sizes are generous and the food is fresh. Staff were very polite. Definitely worth a visit if your in the mood for proper fish and chips 🙂

Anstruther fish bar in Anstruther, Fife is the bar, it's the highest of high beat of the best and I'm telling you right now, The Anchor dish and chips is on par with Anstruther! Fish was stunning, the batter was stunning, the chips were amazing. Enough 5 star reviewing, run along to The Anchor Dish and Chips NOW! For reference. We got 1 x large. 2 x regular. 1 x kids fish and chips and 1 kids chicken nuggets with 2 fruit shoots and 3 small cups of coke we paid £50.

The best place to eat fish and chips in Scarborough by a mile, some reviewers have been quite spiteful with a low rating especially when the food is cooked to order there. We shall definitely be back in the future.

Ordered fish and chips and a drink , when I got the fish and chips the fish did look nice but after starting to eat the fish wasn’t very nice chips were good but that’s about it I didn’t eat the fish won’t be going back.

Well, we found a decent chip shop at last. Fish and chips were so good, good-sized portions, too. Very busy, was given a number on recept for order ,shout your number when ready. We will definitely always use the anchor when in Scarborough and will...

Always busy, and with good reason. Generous portions and very tasty. Option to sit inside or outside (depending on how busy it is). Also, dog friendly, with water easily available for your bestie too which a I approve of. Watch out for the gulls, they like this place too.

Amazing food, it's one of the cheaper places for fish and chips. (£9.40 for regular - by cheaper, I mean cheaper for Scarborough fish and chips) Not enough staff on though, we waited a very very long time for a fairly simple order. Seats both in and out. They serve fosters, dark fruit and John Smith too if you're so inclined. Gravy was amazing

Love this chippy, our go to when in Scarborough. Great size portions, very tasty . We usually have the dog with us so sit outside and enjoy the harbour side view.

I definitely recommend this place! The food is delicious (and big portions). They have nice outdoor area, great to enjoy the seaview and the sun!

First went to the Anchor in September 2022 and ordered two large fish and chips. When our order number was called my son went for it. We were sat outside and when he came to the table looked at the tray and thought they had put them both in one carton. On the tray being put on the table l noticed that there was two cartons with two fish on each portion of chips. We couldn't believe how much we got and ended up taking some home with us. It was cooked in beef dripping something we only see in Yorkshire with us coming from over the border in Lancashire. We went again with my son and daughter and grand daughter last Tuesday the 16th of May 2023. We had been telling them how much we enjoyed it last year and they certainly weren't disappointed. We actually shared two large cod and chips between the four of us and we're all stuffed full. Can't wait to get back again.

Went in to get fish and chips to takeaway, staff were friendly, little bit of a wait but not bad, place looked nice and clean. Good portion sizes unfortunately most of it went in the bin, the fish was just really oily and tasted a bit bad, and the chips were just not great.

Pretty good food and friendly staff. They even offered scraps, never get that offered and that's one of the best bits in my chips!
