Rennards Fish and Chips in Scarborough

Absolutely the best fish and chips I've ever had! The fish was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with a fresh, flaky texture. I highly recommend the cod with chips for a perfect meal...👍👍

Went for a cheap lunch time meal very quick service and didn't have to wait long very generous with portions and didn't cost as much as most chippy would 10/10 will be going there again

never received my order was waiting around but still never got it bad service

the time for delivery was pushed back three times and when it did arrive the sausage was overcooked. I will not be using this fish and chip shop again.

I've eaten fish and chips in five cities in the UK, and it's the best I've ever had. The fish was fresh, the fish meat was thick, and best of all, it was well-fried with a not-thick batter. I ate it three times while staying in Scarborough. It was delicious even as a takeout, and the one next to the store was delicious. You can eat it at the cafe. The size of the fish was the largest ever, but I couldn't eat it all and left it. He kindly informed me that it would be a good idea to order the takeaway special next time, so I did that. The young lady who served me was also really kind. I don't know if I'll come again, but if I do, I'll definitely stop by again. I moved to Bath and tried the famous fish and chips here, but unfortunately it wasn't delicious.

Really tasty food and large portions - group of five of us found a table easily and got served quickly - staff couldn’t have been more helpful - fish Pattie was delicious

forgot my cheesy chips, they can't re deliver as they don't have their own drivers. chips are absolutely rock solid, can't eat the ones we did actually get delivered. used to be amazing this chippy. gone down hill massively. fish and chip shop that can't even do chips? won't order again 0/10.

I’d just arrived on holiday after a long journey. Unfortunately I made a mistake with the address on the order. When I tried to ring them to explain the phone number on their website didn’t work. So I cancelled the order via the App and ended up being charged twice. I am very unhappy that I was unable to contact the restaurant to explain my mistake and that I was charged £60 for two large cod, regular chips, a bottle of sprite and 2 satchets of tartar sauce.

Worst fish I’ve had in a long time

Chips Luke warm & chewy. Fish & Spam fritter over cooked. Mushy peas nice, picked onion nice.

Thank You for THE BEST fish, chips and mushy peas that I ever had, and I don't care for deep fried foods (I prefer my fish poached, grilled and pan fried with mash or rice and salad). But coming to England I had to try Real fish and chips. To be fair, I tried 2 other places so that I could have a comparison, one was a fancy restaurant (way more expensive) and they just didn't meet the food I had at Rennards. And the hard working folks there are ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL PEOPLE! If I could, I would fly from Canada, every time I craved their food. P.S We ate there twice and let me tell you...BIG PORTIONS, I couldn't finish mine, but the fish was still AMAZING cold. THANK YOU Rennards, Be safe, be well and be Blessed. Never received my order. Why bother giving a code to give to driver, to prove the order is going to the correct customer, when they don’t ask for it? Doubtful I’ll get my money back neither.

Had a take out of cod chips curry and peas after reading reviews online! The fish peas and curry ok but the chips were rubbish hard and tough so ruined it for us

Un poco tarde dejando mi reseña. Visité Rennards mientras asistía al partido de Cricket del Condado North Marine Rd a finales de agosto. Tiene un estatus casi legendario entre los fanáticos del cricket, no decepcionó. A pesar de estar ocupado me sirvieron en el restaurante con una agradable bienvenida de Yorkshire de una señora muy eficiente. El bacalao con patatas fritas y el lado de los guisantes eran excepcionales. No te dejes engañar porque F&C es una comida fácil de hacer, no lo son. ¡Los Rennerd saben cómo! Nos vemos de nuevo en abril (si los partidos lo permiten) Gracias Graham

The best fish and chips I have ever had! Came here while on holiday with the family. We were greeted by the friendly staff as we walked in. Fish was cooked to order with the crispiest, most delicious batter. The fish inside was soft and perfectly cooked. The chips were pale in colour and perfectly cooked, very crispy on the outside, and had chip spiceon them which was a first for me but definitely recommended, had to buy some to take home as the whole family loved it so much.

I ordered a large cod and chips, the portion of chips was tiny I was still hungry after. I also asked for scraps and it came with none. Hopefully they aren’t as stingy next time! It did taste good besides that.

Llegó al restaurante a las 6. 45 pm y nuestro pedido fue tomado dentro de 5 minutos. Sin embargo alrededor de las 7 pm la camarera cerró el restaurante y nos encerró (¿no está seguro de que esto de acuerdo con Salud y Seguridad?) murmurando que tenían poco personal. Quince minutos después no había señales de nuestra comida, aunque la freidora estaba “simplemente poniéndola”. Después de pedir que se abriera la puerta, dimos la vuelta a la esquina y nos dimos cuenta de que se daba prioridad a estos clientes y era poco probable que hubiéramos conseguido comida hasta que todos estos clientes hubieran sido atendidos. No volverá de nuevo, ha arruinado la reputación de un negocio respetado de Scarborough.

The best fish and chips anywhere, especially as they allow adults to have child portions. The waitress was lovely, she really made us feel welcome.

Whilst on holiday in Scarborough we wanted to try "Rennards Fish and Chips", we booked for delivery, our order came bang on time, piping hot, well packaged and we have to say our meal was " Superb" no other words would describe the large succulent haddock, golden battered to perfection, "chips a plenty" done to perfection and of course "stick to yr ribs" mushy peas. What was there not to like, 🤷‍♂️ Rennards is now our "Go To" fish and chip meal when next in the area, Simply Awesome, Thanks to all at Rennards, Keep up the Great Work.

Came across this place by chance on a walk back to our campsite. Fish and chips as good as any I've ever had. Will definitely be back next time I'm in the area.

Been coming to this chip shop on our holidays for a few years now, this time the chips were awful over cooked and I'd say been in for a while if it wasn't for our family to be back at resort I would have taken them back. I was really disappointed I won't be returning to this chip shop again straight in the bin. Really wish I had taken a picture the chips were brown and very poor quality. Don't know if it's under new owners or not but somebody needs to learn how to cook proper chips.

Chips were old hard and greasy, mushy peas were slop, fish was dry and bread bun was stale. Staff couldn’t care less. No wonder it has a 0 hygiene rating!

It smelled all over the street, so we decided what to have for dinner, we chose the special menu, cod and chips and gravy, once a curry, and beans, the fish was super crispy, and the chips were heaps, it was a great portion for great money .

My chips was burnt and not edible ! Was a waste of money!

Great chippy, easily the best in Scarborough.

We were not waiting long for our generous serving of haddock & chips. We ordered the large size haddock & it was huge. Very well cooked with crispy batter & mounds of chips.

Absolutely delicious! You get a warm welcome when you come in, the fish is so good and cooked to perfection. I come here every time i have friends or family visiting and they all loved Rennards fish and chips! Highly recommended

Unfortunately not a good experience this time round, the chips were definitely left over from previous day and reheated. Had to wait for the member of staff to finish her cigarette out front before coming in to serve. A shame as we've had good fish and chips here before.

Haddock chips curry sauce tonight and a tub of chip spice which I've never seen before. Very tasty, good value and the staff were great. Highly recommended. The fishcake and potato scallops were poor by comparison and to be avoided.

I got a message ready for collection, still had to wait 15 minutes! Peas like water, chips half cooked, sausage over cooked and greasy hard batter!!!! Never again will I go there! GROSS!!!! 🤢

Great fish and chips - the food was freshly cooked. The staff were also really nice and chatty. They were open after many other shops had closed.

I've been using Rennards fish and chips for the last couple of years and can honestly say I've never had a complaint. It does help being close to home too.

Wow!! Drove up from London today and checked into a B&B just a stroll from Rennards. I was undecided when I was looking at the menu until the lady waiting for my order suggested their special. I'm glad it was recommended as it was lovely. Shame I'm only up here for a few days, I'd defo be back. One to remember for when I'm next up here.

Friendly service but the chips had a soapy sour taste, no one could eat them. Lot of money for fish and chips these days so wasted money.

I was looking forward to a nice can of coke to enjoy with my takeaway. It didn’t arrive, so I had to make do with a glass of water 🥲

My favourite place for fish and chips. My friend and I come here at least once a month when I visit. The fish is always crispy and tasty, portion sizes are generous, and the staff are wonderful. We wouldn't go anywhere else. Even the small (special) fish n' chips is too big for me!

Came after work with friend yesterday. Friday afternoon. Asked for 2 chip butties. Well after 15 mins waiting we got them. The chips were undercooked and tasted fowl. Basically old chips and just trying it on. Was not edible so they went in bin. We are in bad times yes but dont rip people off of there money on poor food.

Started off with a 25 past 5 delivery time, finally comes at 6:30, fish is rubbery as anything and un edible, chips look anemic, and the sausages are barely cooked absolutely appalling

I ordered battered sausage,fish cake and curry sauce, they even threw some chips in for free i throughly enjoyed it all. Even though i got it delivered it was still piping hot

Sadly the can of drink was warmer than the food which was stone cold not even warm, delivery took over an hour. Very disappointing as I have wasted £18

Easy ordering and delivery was around the time required. Haddock and chips nicely cooked and arrived hot enough to eat without rewarming. Only reason lost one star was ordered large fish wanting a nice thick fillet but was sent one and a half thin fillets which meant batter stuck to fish too much and edges were too dried out. Was good enough overall to try Rennards again the future though. Thanks.

Ordered 2 large haddock and chips for delivery through Just Eat. Arrived around time ordered 4.30 p.m. and well hot enough to eat without rewarming being needed. All a good start. Overall quality, taste and eatability of the fish and chips was good. Only slight disappointment was the fish was not a large single fillet as ordered, this typically is a nicer thicker flesh, and we got one and a half small fillets as the alternative which where thinner and the batter was too crispy at the fish edges which made the thinner fish a little too dry. Overall was impressed by delivery/eatability and will order again in the future but add a note about trying to use the expected larger single thicker fillet.

Absolutely shocking. Ordered through just eat and the order was accepted. Receive a call an hour after to say they’re shut and I won’t receive the order. Why accept it then! I expect to receive my full refund by tomorrow!

Great value portion wise and it did come hot, only caveat I had was it was very chewy and the fish seemed over fried, a good quarter had batter but no fish inside it so it was just chewy but the fish that wasn't tasted good.

When staying in Whitby before ate here so on a day out from Scarborough choose to eat here. The food is excellent with the menu that is expected with a seaside venue .
