Rennards Fish and Chips in Scarborough

Haddock chips curry sauce tonight and a tub of chip spice which I've never seen before. Very tasty, good value and the staff were great. Highly recommended

Great fish and chips - the food was freshly cooked. The staff were also really nice and chatty. They were open after many other shops had closed.

Wow!! Drove up from London today and checked into a B&B just a stroll from Rennards. I was undecided when I was looking at the menu until the lady waiting for my order suggested their special. I'm glad it was recommended as it was lovely. Shame I'm only up here for a few days, I'd defo be back. One to remember for when I'm next up here.

I've been using Rennards fish and chips for the last couple of years and can honestly say I've never had a complaint. It does help being close to home too.

Friendly service but the chips had a soapy sour taste, no one could eat them. Lot of money for fish and chips these days so wasted money.

My favourite place for fish and chips. My friend and I come here at least once a month when I visit. The fish is always crispy and tasty, portion sizes are generous, and the staff are wonderful. We wouldn't go anywhere else. Even the small (special) fish n' chips is too big for me!

Fish and chips is like my regular meal in every day but when I'm visited here it's was amazing 👏 the taste exactly same which i like the most 👌👌👌👌👌👌

Came after work with friend yesterday. Friday afternoon. Asked for 2 chip butties. Well after 15 mins waiting we got them. The chips were undercooked and tasted fowl. Basically old chips and just trying it on. Was not edible so they went in bin. We are in bad times yes but dont rip people off of there money on poor food.

I ordered battered sausage,fish cake and curry sauce, they even threw some chips in for free i throughly enjoyed it all. Even though i got it delivered it was still piping hot

Ordered 2 large haddock and chips for delivery through Just Eat. Arrived around time ordered 4.30 p.m. and well hot enough to eat without rewarming being needed. All a good start. Overall quality, taste and eatability of the fish and chips was good. Only slight disappointment was the fish was not a large single fillet as ordered, this typically is a nicer thicker flesh, and we got one and a half small fillets as the alternative which where thinner and the batter was too crispy at the fish edges which made the thinner fish a little too dry. Overall was impressed by delivery/eatability and will order again in the future but add a note about trying to use the expected larger single thicker fillet.

Absolutely shocking. Ordered through just eat and the order was accepted. Receive a call an hour after to say they’re shut and I won’t receive the order. Why accept it then! I expect to receive my full refund by tomorrow!

Absolutely delicious! You get a warm welcome when you come in, the fish is so good and cooked to perfection. I come here every time i have friends or family visiting and they are all loved Rennards fish and chips! Highly recommended

When staying in Whitby before ate here so on a day out from Scarborough choose to eat here. The food is excellent with the menu that is expected with a seaside venue .

Me and my second wife bought a large bag of chips here with a gherkin. My second wife enjoyed them very much and we both thought they were of excellent quality. We were tired having cycled some distance in terrible weather and the hot, tasty, salt and vinegar-laced chips cheered us up no end. It is a place to visit when in Scarborough.

I come with friends to Scarborough once a year and this has become our go-to place for Fish and Chips. Excellent food, at good prices and friendly service. You can still walk down to the beach before they get cold and enjoy. Keep it up!

In my opinion the best chippy in Scarborough, come every time we are on holiday here, Chips and Fish every time abit expensive these days but well worth it, we always have a good meal here.

I come to Scarborough once a year with friends, and this has become our go-to chippy. Good sized portions, fair prices, and great service. Walked down to South Bay to enjoy them, and enjoyed them so much we forgot to take a picture! We'll be back next year. 👍

Great freshly cooked fish and chips. Big portions, crispy batter and real dripping fried chips.

We've just had a delivery, large battered sausage and peas, and a large fish and chips with gravy. My honest review is as follows; strange mushy peas as some of them were hard, and both myself and my partner stated that the chips were undercooked, the larger ones were hard when you bit into them. My partner says that the large fish and chips are 'average'. We won't order again.

without exaggeration, really fish and chips are almost always very tasty. And the curry sauce is simply a masterpiece! The best curry sauce I've had in England. But I can say for sure that everything depends on the cook and the girl standing at the cash register. Before, a girl, apparently of Indian nationality, worked almost constantly. She was always very friendly and attentive, the portions were always complete, the food was always hot and fresh, the curry sauce was thick and tasty, she always asked if I needed a packet and napkins. But recently a girl with blond hair started working. I don't know why this happens, but the food is often not hot, the portions are very small, the curry sauce is often diluted with water, and the food almost always has a lot of salt. Moreover, vinegar, I always ask not to add it to the food, but once she added vinegar and I had to just throw the food away. He does not offer packages, instead of napkins he puts some kind of toilet paper (blue) in the package. I'm sorry, but normal napkins are not that expensive. And why is she always unhappy when she is asked something... if you don't consider the work of this not very friendly girl - 10/10! 5 stars anyway. Now we just go to the establishment, first see who is working, and then decide whether to buy food or not. thank you! sorry for the criticism. But it was criticism not with malice, but with kindness. I wish your institution further growth and prosperity.

Had a takeaway from here a couple of days ago, it was honestly fantastic! The fish was cooked to perfection and the batter was lovely and crispy and properly cooked without being greasy. The wait wasn’t long and the portions were very generous for the price. The staff were very friendly and helpful as well. Nice and efficient all around, good food and good customer service, I would definitely recommend it again.

Last day in Scarborough went down a treat, off the beaten track.

Terrible fish n chips....orderedtwo cod and chips. Fish was not cod....chips burnt and shrivelled looked like they had been there all day! Had to throw away food was terrible!

We were told Rennards sells the best fish and chips in Scarborough. Admittedly, we were told by the lovely lady who works there, but decided to risk it and grab a "small" haddock, chips and peas special for £6.95. Literally half the price of a fish supper on the seafront. How bad can it be? I did ask for Cod instead of Haddock as they were the same price on the menu, and was surprisingly given a fairly chunky piece of cod. Certainly not a child's portion, expertly filletted, and correctly deboned. I got home with my paper-wrapped box of still-steaming, delicious food. Reminding me of the good old days when you could taste the fish and tell what type it was. Chips were at least twice-cooked and fluffy inside. Peas were perfectly mushy and tasted of actual peas. Half a scoop of scraps deployed in the corner of the box for a little extra crunch. Did they mistake me for a food critic and pull out all the stops? Probably not. Maybe it just IS the best little chippy in Scarborough.

Called in for haddock & chips as I had just arrived in Scarborough for a 3 day stay. Stayed in Scarborough many times and tried several of the seafront fish & chip shops. Fish & chips today ( plus a side of curry ) was as good as anything I have tried in Scarborough, chips cooked to perfection and fish was fresh and very tasty. Great value for money, and very good service from lady taking orders and guy cooking the fresh fish. Lots of places to choose for fish & chips in Scarborough but will call in at Rennards again this weekend.

Always found a nice welcome and fish n chips spot on..

Went to this place last night 10/06/23 as we were there on a weekend break we asked if restaurant was open they said wasn’t open till next week but they said they would open it for us which we thought was great . Anyway we ordered our food which was fantastic service was great and they kept asking if everything was ok . Food was great fish was superb 10/10 from us by the way everyone in our party agree would befo go back 👍

Delicious fish and chips. Good size portions for a good price. We sat outside to enjoy our meal. I had the special menu with cod and gravy and it was delicious. The scampy was really nice and served deliciously hot inside. There is a paid parking site right in front of it.

This place has a rating of o/5 for hygiene, when I walked it it was dirty and the people were terribly rude to me, the fish was sloppy and cold the chips were burned to black. I wouldn’t recommend this at all it was a awful experience

Had a great fresh meal of fish and chips after 9.00pm Saturday night. After the majority of fish and chips shops had closed, they produced this fabulous meal cooked fresh which was delicious. I would highly recommend visiting their premises.

Decent fish and chips, friendly owners. Probably could do with a lick of paint as Scarborough council have given it a zero rated food hygiene because of this. Unless I'm made to eat off of the floor or walls then I'm more than happy to keep this as my regular chippy in Scarborough.

Called in on 11 April on way back to my b and b on North bay.Had the special offer small haddock,chips and choice of various sides.Good price of £6.95 considering price of fish.Struggled to finish the chips.Generous portiion of fish,more like medium.

Delicious food and great value for money. Staff were great and very accommodating of our two dogs. Not sure what they're doing differently but the gravy was some of the best I've had. Highly recommend!

Lovely fish and chips in a box. More chips than I could eat, even after a hard day cycling. Fish portion very generous Handy car parking just opposite in car park, then a short drive to the cliff top car park to consume said fishy delights.

Anytime I was out in Scarborough in my truck for work, I'd stop off here for lunch. Cracking little spot, the food being piping hot and delicious. The staff were always friendly and welcoming. Not expensive compared to other chippys in the area either. 👍

Amazing fish and chips cooked fresh to order. Smell from outside is epic. We ordered haddock and fish bites and sausage alongside some chips.

Rennards is a great takeaway chippy. Tasty fish, chips and all the extras. It also does teas and coffees to take out. The only slight criticism is the batter is flat rather than fluffy, but it's still tasty. Definitely worth a visit.

One of THEE best fish and Chips we've had in a long time, piping hot, fresh, and crispy, service lovely and with a smile. Very reasonable priced.

Ate from here some years ago, disappointed so started going elsewhere, but this New Year our usual take away was closed, so risked it. So glad we did, nice freshly cooked, fat juicy cod, lovely chips, hubby not a big chip eater but he ate the lot. The sausages were appreciated by the dogs. We have another visit later on in the week, same standard. You can order online and just collect, may have changed our regular chippy for Scarborough visits

Popped in for some good old fish and chips. I was absolutely famished!. I got Cod and chips with curry sauce and a can of pop. Thoroughly enjoyed them and they were well tasty. Proper seaside chips and the batter on the fish was so crunchy! I got there 20 mins before chippy was due to close. I asked what was left, I was told everything on the menu. Really pleasant and engaging staff, with smiles all round. Dhanwardh!

In all my 56 years of life I have never once up until yesterday, thrown into the bin any portion of fish and chips for any reason other than I was full. This was undoubtedly the worst portion of fish and chips I have ever had. The chips were anaemic and underdone , the batter was flabby and floury and the fish smelled old. It had been frozen but not freshly frozen and was grey in colour and chewy in texture. My partners was similar but she also had peas which she finished so a small plus. A complete waste of money and never to be visited again. Everything was cooked to order but may as well have been precooked and left to cool as it could not have been worse. The portion size was ok but this was not a good thing it added to our misery.

As were the cod and chips and the fish pattie, Yorkshire style, nice mushy peas too. I will be back before this weeks holiday is over 5 🌟 from me

Probably the best fish and chip shop in the centre of Scarborough. Sandy is a wonderful kind lady and is dedicated to providing a quality service for her clients. Excellent beautiful food. Customer focused and lovely dialogue whilst being served. The chips are always cooked just as one would expect.
