Stayed in room 1 for the night. Badly in need of refurbishment. Fixtures and fittings and carpet very old fashioned and fusty. The bathroom was awful. A shower curtain in a circle over the bath which was steep to get in to and slippery. It needs ripping out and bringing up to date with a walk in shower and glass screen. Disappointing and not value for money in our opinion. Did not eat there apart from breakfast which apart from the main course which was good was spartan in cereals and juices etc

Visited on a gloriously sunny mid-September Monday lunchtime. It was a celebration meal for our 26th Anniversary. “No, we are not serving food in the garden” Ok. We’re flexible. “But you can sit in a small room with your puppy and four others with their three dogs next to the toilet” Hmm. Not great. Selection of oysters were plump and sweet. But no spoon supplied for the red wine vinegar! Great dressed crab - very tasty; lovely seafood tart - the shortest of shortcrust; both served with sweet waxy new potatoes. Sadly uninspired slices of bread served with my pet peeve of rock hard butter! All in with a bottle of fizz a reasonable £120. More than happy with our celebration lunch but certainly room to improve.

Top service. we had oysters and a pork terrine to start very nice . The terrine looked homemade and tasted nice oysters really nice. My wife had fish and chips she thought the fish was really fresh and tasty. I tried her chips and have to say they were over cooked and tasted like the fryer needed a change of oil. I had calves liver the mashed potatoes greens and gravy really nice. The calves liver was really disappointing perhaps I should have complained perhaps I should have made sure that it was going to be cooked rare. It tasted like it had been braised for hours and had a flavour more like overcooked lambs liver. As I said brilliant service nice table nice atmosphere. We left happy and left a tip however some aspects of our meal could have been better.

£9 for one thinly sliced courgette with half a teaspoon of grated cheese - really?? I should have suspected when I asked the waiter the meaning of 'carpaccio' and his reply was vague. In fact, courgette carpaccio is a recipe for the novice cook! All you do is slice up a courgette and sprinkle over it as little grated cheese as possible. Don't bother with any other ingredients, not even a dressing. Easy!!

Had two meals here on our recent holiday. Service good, food lovely. Pizza cooked in the pizza oven was declared a favourite by our sons. The fish and chips were fabulous. Dog friendly although you sit outside in “marquee” area but that was fine. They have heaters and blankets for the colder evenings.

We dropped into The Anchor after a long session on the beach/in the sea. The atmosphere was slightly awkward - staff a little over-friendly with regulars - but a helpful chap offered us a table in the bar and we ordered beef short ribs £26 and a smoked chicken caesar salad £21. The food was tasty enough but the dishes were overpriced for the quality offered (chicken had very little/no smoked flavour) and the portion sizes were on the small side. Outrageously, they charged us £5.50 for a pint of lemonade.

Staying in the village for a week we had Sunday lunch and two other weekday lunches at the Anchor. Food was fabulous every meal. The menu was not huge but there were many dishes that we wanted to choose. We have two dogs that were made very welcome. The staff team were all very friendly without being over bearing. Lovely log fires, table decorations and candles gave the pub a wonderful feel. We recommend a meal here.

Ordered Fish & Chips as a take away. Fish was good although small portion considering the cost. This was a very expensive disapointing experience. Chips were terrible. They were greasy, hard and had never seen the deep fryer. More like half boiIed potato wedges. And not many chips either. Really awful. Chef needs to be retrained and and check what is leaving the kitchen. Can't believe any of the staff would have been happy to be served food of this standard. Would have returned them, but had left the village before opening the box. No serviette or utensils offered. Not a good experience, just an expensive one.

Decided to have a light lunch and couple of glasses of wine. Asked what size glass of wine. I said Normal. Small in other Words!! Not medium or large. Lunch was okay but asked for meat starter. Not the £14.00 antipasto. Anyway bill came my boyfriend paid it. On the way home looked at the bill. It was not correct later on decided to call them to discuss. Spoke to an arrogant little jumped up person called Luke. After having to raise my voice because he said he was busy and to call back tomorrow. Finally agreed to refund the difference of the drink prices from £10.00 a glass and I had two glasses. So he said he would put 6.00 pounds back on my boyfriend card. Then told me the details were incorrect and told me to call back once again tomorrow. Could not be bothered. Sophie the owner and her husband need to sit down with their staff and teach them to be helpful and not so rude and arrogant.

Popped in for a quick lunch after a swim in the sea. My wife and I ordered a salt beef brioche which sounded very tasty. What arrived was a bun cut in half two thick pieces of meat two pickle and a smear of mayonnaise. This could have been so much better with a little care and imagination. . Obviously the chef does not have either. For £12.95 this was poor.

During our week long stay in Walberswick we had a wonderful supper at The Anchor with our family in July 2023. There were 12 of us in total, from the age of two and when booking the table, Gemma was extremely helpful in positioning us on a table that was perfect for us, with shade in the sheltered outside area but also easy access to the garden to allow the younger kids to have a walk around the large garden in between courses. All the waiting staff were very polite and efficient and the food was all as ordered and delicious. My nephew has food allergies and both the waiting staff and chef went to great efforts to ensure that he had the food he wanted, cooked in a safe way for him. All in all we can not recommend eating here more. Booking is advised during the busy summer months, it was full when we were there which was early evening. Thank you, we will defiantly return when we are next in Suffolk.

Really thought this would be a good lunch as we had walked past other pubs and chosen this one. Sorry to say it wasn't. We sat In the rear garden which was more expensive....I had a salt beef sandwich and fries which definitely wasn't value for money and looked like beach cafe/McDonald's food. My £8+ glass of wine was tiny...I thought they were joking! Very disappointed. Definitely wouldn't visit again.

We ate twice at The Anchor during our weekend stay and we weren't disappointed. The seafood skewers were fresh and delicious and as was half lobster dish which came with some really vibrant salad. The atmosphere sat outside in the marquee and terrace was relaxed and it's very easy to while away several hours soaking up the sea air. The staff couldn't be friendlier or more helpful. Service was quick, full of smiles and our toddler was very well looked after! What a gem.

I regularly dine at The Anchor and always enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, the unpretentious service and the excellent food. However, I felt that last Saturday's dinner was worthy of special mention. I had Dover sole with Hollandaise sauce, potatoes and greens, and it was out...

Ten(ish) years ago we got engaged here. Came back this weekend to celebrate our anniversary. A wonderful visit. Comfortable and quaint rooms. A beer selection to die for. Fantastic and well executed food. Confident and comforting service. If you have the chance to visit, do.

Stayed here for the Easter Break from good Friday till the Monday. Such a lovely feel to this hotel. The food on Saturday evening was to die for we had our friends join us and all had Beef Wellington and all agreed the best one we have ever had ! Second time staying at this hotel and would definitely go back as staff and management are lovely.

We took advantage of an unexpectedly sunny Sunday to take a friend in a wheelchair for a stroll on the prom and brunch at the Alex — where we knew there was an accessible loo, should it be needed. Our order included a vegan breakfast, muffin and poached eggs and smoked haddock fishcakes, plus cake. All were good, fresh and well-cooked. Hats off to the chef who perfectly poached those eggs. The staff were friendly and professional and went out of their way to help us with wheelchair manoeuvring. The place feels well-run.

Over-priced food - an unbelievable £4.75 for a stodgy, tasteless cheese scone with one pat of hard, cold butter. Only managed to eat half of it, really unpleasant, threw the rest away. The cakes were not covered and crawling with flies. Sandwiches even more over-priced at £8.25 for a small cheese sandwich with white bread. This cafe used to be so much better. Will drive past in future and not stop here.

Ver disappointed. Two young girls on duty who were indifferent to our questions. We sat down and neither came to ask if we needed drinks before ordering. There was only one other family in the restaurant. Left without ordering. Have been before with better results but not happy with the lack of service.

Food and service ok, but far too expensive. One thin slice of cheese and ham on a cheddar and ham ploughman's meal ? Salad out of a bag ?. Joke at their prices.
