Booked a two nights stay here (weekday) during half term for myself and two children. The rooms had recently been refurbished and there was the nice new carpet smell. The room was very clean and we had everything we needed, Tea making, TV, Wi-Fi etc. The en-suite was lovely although the bathroom door could have done with a squirt of WD40 as it was a little squeaky. We didn’t use the Bar, only to check in and the staff member was very polite and kind, offered to carry my bags etc. there’s a separate entrance for guests so you don’t have to go thru the bar area unless you want to. I was a bit dubious booking a room in a pub in the centre of town, I was concerned about noise but, I needn’t have been, we weren’t disturbed at all. Perfect location, we used the Red Jet to get over to the Isle and it’s not even a ten minute walk to the pub. Very central and surrounded by eateries and supermarkets Would definitely recommend. Would stay again.

What an absolutely amazing place. We always visit this place when we visit IOW. It's the first place we go before we explore another pubs and bars while exploring Cowes. The ambience is lovely. Cosy pub, with great friendly staff. Definitely recommend to visit when they have live music, amazing atmosphere.

We booked a table of 26 for Mothers Day at 1:00pm and requested that we could be in the stable bar together due to children and babies attending, then a few days later we were told we’d have to be out by 3pm for the blues band to set up which was fine so we agreed to move our booking to 12. We turned up to find that the two blokes of the blues band were in the room the whole time with us while we ate, they were scowling at us, moaning about us to the bar staff, and making a lot of noise waking up my 3 month old multiple times. Other mums didn’t feel comfortable breastfeeding with them watching over us, and they thought they had the authority to tell our kids off for enjoying themselves in a room that we booked weeks before. They acted like they owned the place and made us feel quite unwelcome.. apart from that, we really enjoyed our food and the other staff were great, just disappointed as we moved our booking to accommodate the band getting ready but they were still there the whole time anyway?? It honestly felt like they were doing it on purpose at some points

Reasonable choices on the menu and we were happy with our meals. Difficult choice between the sausage and mash and chicken, gammon and leek pie as I was hungry after an hour and a half on the Tennis court. Chocolate fudge cake was delicious; would happily go back.

Excellent pub with great beers, friendly staff, lots of space and the best burger I’ve had in years. Soft, full of flavour and great accompaniments. The summer salad was also excellent. Really unusual and a great healthy option. Haddock and chips also superb, We’ve been before, years ago, abd would definitely return. Good for dogs, and obvious signs saying to keep them off the seats, which other reviewers obviously missed or ignored.

Love this pub like a local but customer service needs some improvement. - always love it here but today we were screamed at like a night club because our dog was on the bench in the beer garden. The guy in jeans and a black jumper then swore 6 times whilst cleaning a table about the f****** sh*t people had left on the bench. Dont swear in front of guests and if you have an issue with my dog come and speak to me quietly and explain what you need me to do quietly and calmly i will oblige instantly. Such a shame one member of staff can ruin the reputation of a good organisation.

My husband's workmates chose Anchor Inn for a leaving do. Good choice. Firstly it's such an historic pub, you can imagine the old sailors sitting chatting about their exploits, but secondly its bustling, full of energy. A great band played, and rather than drive home we booked a room. Lovely large room, spotlessly clean, with ensuite bath and shower, tea making facilities and probably one of the most comfy beds ever. The only drawback although a minor one is car parking but we managed. This little gem can be recommended for somewhere to drop anchor for a night.

Visited twice in a week for dinner with friends while staying locally. The first visit was great, with service that matched the god menu. The second visit, on a Sunday night, (the pub was not that busy) saw what must have been the "B Team" in action. The service was poor and disappointing, with incorrect food orders and a level of confusion.

Popped in lunchtime for beer and some food. Cask beer range and quality was quite good. The burger and chips was a bit of a mixed bag. The chips were absolutely fantastic, and the bun was a rather nice sourdough one. However, the beef patty was very disappointing. It had a rubbery, texture and the flavour was sadly lacking. It was also too big for the bun. It said on the menu that it was from their butchers, in which case maybe they should find a new butchers, or better still, make their own patties.

Sitting outside at the tables on the high street is certainly a good way to people watch at The Anchor Inn! We spent an hour having drinks and some light dishes during our time in Cowes. The ‘seasoned chips’ could’ve done with a little more seasoning but the breaded chicken pieces were more warmly praised. A traditional inn that I’m sure is quite popular any other time – hopefully one to return to with fewer restrictions in place.

Going anywhere since the start of the pandemic with my elderly parents has been understandably nerve wracking. We’ve just visited The Anchor for the 3rd time since it reopened on April 12th and each time we’ve felt completely safe.I work in hospitality, so I understand the challenges that the team are facing and I’m happy to say they tick every box with regards to cleanliness and covid procedures.I would advise that you book ahead of time even if you’re just drinking as they’ve made the most out of their outdoor areas but space is obviously still limited. As always Steve, Alex and the rest of the team are very welcoming and the food is good value with generous portions. My mum, who normally eats like a sparrow, absolutely demolished her pie & chips! There’s lots of options for drinks and the real ale is spot on - I’ve never had a bad pint.I moved to the island last year and I couldn’t have wished for a better local ❤️

This is the second meal in two visits I have sent back. Last year we waited 45 minutes for steak pie that was cold in the middle. So, giving the place another go, I ordered a burger, you can't mess up a burger right? Wrong. I asked for it well cooked. When it arrived, it looked good, I tried to cut the burger in half, impossible. I took the top of the bun off and tried to cut the patty again, but it felt really tough, it was inedible. The waiter was bringing a drink when i was showing my wife how rubbery it was, it was an effort to tear the meat. The waiter said "you wanted it well cooked!". It had nothing to do with whether it was cooked 'well'. The waiter was pleasant and offered another meal, when I refused he insisted on refunding me. Maybe the cook microwaved the beef patty before pan frying or grilling (not sure if that makes a patty tough). Or there is something really wrong with the meat.

We went to have lunch and were refused entry because one of us did not have a mask. That person was visibly wearing a valid exemption card. The person we were dealing with still would not let us in. This is the worst pub I have ever visited and I have been to many, many pubs and bars all over the world! Our family were sitting in the garden and we were running a little late. We entered and forgot about the hand sanitiser.. suddenly this scruffy long haired young man shouted loudly at us 'Oi, Oi, Oi hand sanitiser - get back' we were shocked. He then shouted 'you can't just walk through'. We tried to explain that we were joining our group in the garden. He then told us to stand at the door and he would find them. 10 MINUTES later he had not bothered to come back so we walked through to yet again be shouted at. We joined our group and tried to order through the App which is not easy to do! The service was very slow they then refused to serve an 18 years old member of our party - just to add more insults. When we left I asked to speak to the Manager. The waitress then claimed to be the on duty Manager and she defended this rude member of staff and then accused me of being rude! Incredible. On the way out the 'rude scruffy member of staff had the cheek to wink at my daughter. I will never go to this pub again.

Booked through hotels.com. Very well situated in the High St just 5 minutes walk from the Fast Jet terminal. Check in is at the bar - very friendly welcome. I’d originally booked a twin room with private bathroom but as I was travelling alone I was offered a single room with en-suite. The room was cosy & spotlessly clean, the en-suite was with a shower. The bed was comfortable with plenty of bedding. The room was heated by a very effective electric heater. A kettle with tea & coffee was provided, also 2 small bottles of water. In this particular room, the window was frosted so you couldn’t see out & it couldn’t be opened (I’m guessing it overlooked the bins!) There was free wifi in the room but that stopped working the first night, I was told WiFi was unreliable on The Island, wasn’t the end of the world! The TV refused point blank to switch on, they changed the batteries in the remote but unfortunately that didn’t sort the problem, again not the end of the world. I ate in the bar both nights - large portions, cooked to perfection, plenty of choice, really recommend eating here. Would definitely stay again but would go for a different room - I prefer a window that opens!

I've lived on the island all my life and I have only normally used the Anchor for socialising with friends and enjoying the great selection of live music they offer. I had customers visiting our yard to collect a large refit vessel that we had been involved with and had arranged to go for a evening meal with them prior to them leaving the next morning. After showing the clients some of the local town we heading into the Anchor so they could experience a local pub which I often use. Over a beer we looked through the great choice of menu that they offer and decided to eat here. The place was packed and we managed to find a table In the middle bar that we were happy with. After several minutes of trying to decide what to choose off the large choice on the menu the 4 of us each selected a different dish, After only a short wait we were pleasantly surprised to have our food arrive at the table and look amazing. We were all delighted with our meals and the efficient service and quality of the food that the kitchen staff produced on such a busy evening and in the extreme heat. After our meal I wanted to attract the attention of the kitchen staff to thank them for making our evening so enjoyable but they were so dedicated In delivering the next persons food to the same high standard that I didn't want to distract them. As a result I would like to thank all involved as this was a great meal and I will certainly being visiting again soon.

Called in for a beer only the food though coming out of the kitchen looked nice and plenty of people were indeed eating.its a dog friendly place so be prepared for the usual things that goes with dogs and people eating food. One thing I will say here is out of all the places this day we drank at this was the most expensive. £4.40 for a 330ml BTL of San Miguel. Stupid To be Fair. It's only £3.75 for Peroni in hotel bar and in our opinion Peroni is far superior to San Miguel. Still nice beer garden just watch your purse and wallet strings in here. Way overpriced.

I’ve been to the Anchor many, many, many times. Being RIGHT outside cowes yacht haven is probably the reason.

No coastal views but an olde worlde pub in the pedestrian strip, with Wimbledon playing on the TV. Fantastically cool if you want it due to being minimally in direct sunlight, so great on a hot day for dogs. Very friendly staff. We had 2 sandwiches (both ham and cheese) which came with chips, plus a pint of ale and glass of wine came to approx £25 on a monday lunchtime. Could have been more chips for the money, and the bread and sliced wholegrain and the cheese grated so ever so slightly disappointed, but other meals people were eating looked pretty ok. Easy to find pub, with lots of live music on the blackboard - 5 nights a week I think for some weeks ahead, so evenings probably quite alive !

Popped in for an unplanned lunch. The staff were extremely friendly and the food arrived very quickly after we had ordered, The food was ok but just a little ordinary and the menu was a bit boring,The atmosphere was very good and we would go there again, but not make a special journey

Had yet another excellent meal here. Dropped in with family and friends on an idle Saturday. Quick service (they remembered our drinks order from last time! Eek!) really nice fish and chips and burgers. Kids welcomed.

We visited The Anchor Inn in Cowes for a few drinks and a bite to eat. On ordering the first round of drinks we were amazed to find that this pub was charging £4-90 for a pint of beer brewed on the Island. It seemed that all the Real Ale prices were overpriced.

We had lunch in The Anchor and although a little pricey the food was excellent and well worth it. Being a pub they had a good range of spirits and drought beers/ciders. It was Bank Holiday Monday and they even had a band playing which was really good and added to the holiday atmosphere. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.

I’ve had several meals and I have to be honest, I’ve only ever had ONE bad meal here. It is pub grub at its best. However, it is a pub that your drinks bill will be more expensive than your meals. However, that said, a friendly atmospheric property that is worth a look.

We popped in for a quick lunch. The bar staff were polite and friendly. It was not very busy but I guess that’s because it’s January. We both had burgers and they were good but not extra special.

We chose the Anchor Inn as it came recommended. We weren't disappointed at all. It was very busy, always a good sign - we sat outside in the courtyard. With great service and good, tasty food. Good food, good service at a good price.

Had a meal when visiting Cowes with my wife, the place was very busy, first impressions was very good, great menu and local real ales, however the food was served up as it would be in any pub with no frills, but the price we paid should reflect a better quality .

I was really hungry and after a quick glance at the menu I ordered my meal at the bar. It was prepared in a flash, delicious and satisfying! Generous size and wonderfully cooked, one clean plate! Unfortunately no room for a pudding. Staff were friendly and chatty - will eat there again.

Everytime i get to have a look at Costa Newport Shropshire website, the thin that greets me on the Google listing is a review from trip adivsor and this is 10 - yes ten - years old!! It say it is" the worst Costa ever". I am a local elderly lady and I go down there 2-3 times a week. I go on my own. The coffee is excellent, the atmosphere is warm and homely. The seats are comfortable and padded. It upsets me that Trip-Advisor can keep plugging this ten year old review. How dare they do this!! it is shocking. I havent dont a trip advisor review for 2-3 years, but I am fed up with this report. Please take it off.

It's very busy in the summer season, but it still manages to produce great food. In the winter, it's the one pub that is consistently open, no matter what the weather or footfall. Throughout the winter, there are special deals on meals, which are cooked to a very high standard. The staff are really friendly and helpful and if you want any changes to your meal, they are only too willing to help. If you come to Yarmouth pop in, you will be looked after and enjoy a lovely meal and beverage of your choice. The location is great, but the phone signal is very poor. You may have to walk up the peir.

We had a poor dining experience, one meal in particular, the stir fry chicken was very strange with slices of raw tomato and bottled silverside onions. The other meals were indifferent, chips not really hot, a real bugbear with me as it's something that's so easy to get right. They close tomorrow until March so were obviously just not that bothered and keen to get off home. It's a shame as it's an attractive venue with live music and a real nautical vibe.
