I had the most amazing cup of tea, The Anchor has an amazing and unique atmosphere, That just doesn't happen over night. The staff who all bring their own skills, Alongside the wonderful and amazing customers. And lastly one other thing that is well worth a mention and a visit, Is the wood that surrounds the bar area. Well done to the Anchor in Digbeth ,Birmingham.

I love this pub. I almost look forward to having to wait five hours between National Express coaches at Digbeth coach station, just so I can spend half a day at the Anchor. In a naff world of superficial commercialism, here is a refuge from all that nonsense. Long may it continue!

I liked this pub immediately after the Patrick's Day parade. Nipped in there yesterday with my daughter for a quick pint. Lovely place, with some great music. Talking of which, I only learned today that there's an app for the jukebox. Cool !!. Another surprise was that there's a beer garden and smoking area out the back. Will definitely be back. 👌👌

A wonderful old boozer with a fantastically eclectic decor spread over a number of rooms, including what could well be the smallest bar room I have ever seen. The staff were lovely and friendly and happy to chat. There is a pool table in the main bar but still plenty of room to move around. The music they had playing when we were there was excellent. There is a small, covered area out the back and picnic tables on the foot path to enjoy that wonderful red brick facade. The Guinness was excellent as was the Attic Brew Pale Ale

Disappointing...Asked for a single vodka and a dash of lemonade, but was served half a pint of lemonade with a vodka. Queried it and was told I had to pay for this...said I didn't want a huge lemonade, so was told, "Tough luck, that's all we serve..." Said I wasn't paying for what I don't want/didn't order- it's not what I ordered... Then spoke to the manager, who was also really stroppy and said, "I've worked in pubs for 25 years and I've never not been asked for a full glass of lemonade before..." I said I was surprised and he walked off from me...not sure why... Eventually spoke to the same stroppy man again and he told me that 13 oz of lemonade is industry standard... Very confused by the whole interaction- Isn't it cheaper for the pub if I only have a dash of lemonade anyway?! Added comments (following a garbled reply from the venue posted nearly 3 months later): We came as a group of people and this was the second pub we'd been to, i.e. we didn't come as a couple at night after visiting multiple pubs...! I'm epileptic, so also clearly wasn't drunk (check my medication for what can happen if I drink more than a drink or 2!)... I'm confused by the very passive-aggressive, garbled response to the original part of my review (posted in the middle of the night) from a staff member- it doesn't make for easy reading with all the errors; I'm not sure about the point of the references to ice and physics either... The part of the response where the person replying was also unkind and tried to suggest I am stupid/couldn't understand his response in the pub at the time is simply unnecessary... (crayons, really?!) Responses to negative reviews like his here simply prove that some people shouldn't be customer-facing; when someone running/working in a pub starts to be unkind, sound like a bully and bend the truth (whether in person, online or both), it's time to really question whether this is a venue you'd like to come and visit yourself... Oh, and don't you dare mention the disgusting toilets here either! 🤮

This is a very handy little pub for Birmingham Coach Station and also the nearby Institute which hosts lots of gigs by touring bands. It always has a good selection of guest beers and ales. Very dog friendly too - they provided my doggy with a little ramekin of different treats.. It has a bit of an ALT vibe. Reasonable prices too for somewhere so close to the city centre (downtown).

Poor service from a member of the bar staff, followed by even worse service from the guy who said he was the manager...seems like a difficult and angry man. Heard a couple of other people complaining about his attitude too, so maybe he was having a really bad day... The toilets were then UTTERLY disgusting- both the men's and the women's were appalling. The men's had urine all over the floor and the women's had 1 toilet with no seat, 1 sink with no water at all, and no soap in there- horrible! Not a pub we'd all rush back to- there are much lovelier staff and facilities in most other pubs in Brum.

Dropped in for a few here on a Saturday afternoon. A lovely, not over-modernised small, antique boozer. It was fun, with a right comical bunch of local characters giving it jovial banter. That sort of atmosphere is becoming a thing of the past, so I revelled in it. I was drinking "A Day in Paradise" Pale Ale, very sessionable, with almost a fruit note.

OK pub. Barmaid was pleasant. Have heard of it winning CAMRA awards but it wouldn't now as there isn't much choice of ale. There are a few seats out the front, can't say it's great though as you're right on the pavement with drab/run down buildings all around.

I stopped off here to pass a couple of hours between coaches at Digbeth Coach Station (which is literally a stone's throw away). I'd already stuffed my face with sandwiches so I didn't need lunch, but the pint I devoured in minutes was so nice, I ordered another. Been a little while since I was in this classic Birmingham Boozer..there are a few still left around Digbeth. Lots of little rooms around a central bar selling a handful of well kept ales and craft beers. Maybe a little higher priced than average, think 5 to 6 pounds a pint, more city centre prices than back street Digbeth. That said, the pub and punters are friendly. There is a pool table in the bar, and you can pick the music by an app. It's handy for the start or end of a night out, and like the handful of pubs left in this end of the city needs lots of thirsty support. Recommended just to enjoy the old fashioned pub vibe but definitely with a modern twist.

I paid £10.15 for a sausage and egg sandwich with a can of cola, and it was far from worth it. The bread was dry and seemed several days old, with a disappointingly small slice. The sausage was a struggle to eat, as the skins were practically inedible. While the egg and ketchup were decent, they couldn’t save the meal. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone.

It’s unusual for me to leave a 5-star review, but I honestly can’t find anything to fault here. I visited the place on a Sunday afternoon and didn’t have to wait long for a table for four. We started with some drinks before moving on to food. What stood out to me was how delicious the food was. It didn’t look as pretty as I had hoped (though, to be fair, I may have really high expectations, so most people would probably rate the presentation 5 stars). But the taste was great, the portions were perfect, and the final bill was pleasantly lower than I expected—a definite plus. I also appreciated the service style. This isn’t one of those restaurants where the staff is constantly hovering over you. If you need something, you can easily find someone, which I much prefer to being “nagged” every few minutes about whether everything is okay. The place was warm and clean, and the music wasn’t too loud. However, next time, I might choose a table further from the coffee machine since the milk steamer/frother was a little noisy. :D There’s no parking directly in front of the restaurant, but that wasn’t an issue for me as I used a paid car park a short distance away. Based on this visit, I wouldn’t hesitate to come back in the future. Thank you!
