Visited today for Sunday lunch. First visit was December 2022 for family Sunday lunch. We returned today after great experience last December. Today, quite expecting price increases due to cost of living crisis. However, quality and quantity had fallen. Food still very tasty but was let down by long wait for condiments. Food getting cold whilst waiting. Puddings (Eaton mess) tasty but nothing special for £7.00p. Lovely pub for drinking but not sure we will return for food sadly.

What can I say lovely food lovely staff lovely atmosphere. I need to work my way through the new menu but unlike other pubs they have not overpriced the food. I am aware of the increase in the cost of food but they remain reasonably priced with the quality too. If you are walking to the nature reserve just down the road drop in for a drink and something to eat. I have been coming here for years and it just gets better and better. If I was being critical the lunch menu could retain the jacket potatoes as when I nip in at lunch from work it is my go to food and their jacket potatoes were soooo good.

Just turned up for Sunday lunch , without booking .Staff was lovely. Thank you are very accommodating I kept moving tables cause I couldn’t decide where I would like to sit but there was never a problem. Ordered roast lamb it was lovely. You could order extra vegetables shame you couldn’t order extra roast potatoes at cost because there was only three small roast potatoes and I’m a little bit greedy I love my roast potatoes. I then ordered, chocolate brownie cheesecake with ice cream it was delicious. I do you think if you had apple pie or a sponge roll with custard some more men would might eat puddings ? But everything was superb and I definitely will be back

Despite being busy with an 18th birthday party the welcoming staff accommodated us and for to us much earlier than they expected to take our food orders. The meals were delicious. My husband had the steak panini which melted in the mouth, our son had the burger which he said was a little greasy but delicious and I had the fish and chips which was amazing; crispy batter, tasty fish and it was a huge portion with 3 fillets. The desserts were fantastic too. We enjoyed it so much we went back again later for tea and coffee.

So we came to The Anchor for a family meal, thinking we would give it another try since the new owners had taken it over. According to Trip Advisor it has improved; our experience was quite the reverse. Despite the polite waiter who served us, everything was poor. Slow service, greasy food and miserable atmosphere is how I’d sum it up. The pub was a sea of middle-aged couples, not speaking in a deadly silent eating area. We were seated and presented with a very limited menu (cheap-looking laminated tat)and nothing to choose from on the chalkboard. When our starters arrived, one of our party who is intolerant to cheese had to ask for the bread to be swapped as it was covered in cheese (not specified on the menu) and this simple swap took well over 10 minutes! Meanwhile, everyone else’s starters were going cold. We then had to sit a very long time for the mains to arrive and eventually had to ask what had happened to our meals since the 2 children in our party were so hungry. When it did finally turn up (without any apology for the delay) the sea bass was overly greasy, the kid’s fish portion was mostly batter and the mash was too salty. Definitely not worth the money. Needless to say we won’t be returning. What a waste of £100. Save yourself the money and effort.

The pub has a nice traditional decor with modern touches and a lovely outside area. When I looked at the menu I wasn't expecting much but omg they have a good chef. No, they haven't paid me to write this, I live miles away and have never stopped in that area before. The prawn starter was perfectly cooked and drizzled in garlic butter, served with delicious warm bread. And the fish fillet main with asparagus again was perfectly cooked and presented. Now reopened (Under new management?) with new furniture and a return to the quality and welcome of the past. When originally opened, the cafe offered a lovely "family feel" with excellent service and quality. The cafe had slumped badly in the quality of the experience in recent years, after a change of owners, and my previous visit had been quite unpleasant, so it was VERY refreshing to find a smiling welcome, rapid service and excellent coffee. The new tables are perhaps less rustic than the previous versions, which has lost a little of the atmosphere, but the cafe is scrupulously clean and retains the previous layout. The seating area is quite small and if you are planning to lunch there I would say that booking is essential. It does get very busy at times. The food is reasonably priced, though not "cheap" and the quality was excellent. Attention to detail has made a huge difference to the offering and it is clear that the bad memory of the past has been banished.
