The Anchor in East Cambridgeshire

Family meal to celebrate my granddaughter’s birthday. She chose the venue, as she loves going to the Anchor. Food was amazing as per usual. Staff lovely, very attentive and helpful. She loved the candles in the Bao Balls and everyone singing Happy Birthday. Good value excellent food and plenty of choice. A huge thank you to you all.

We received a very warm welcome service was exceptional we received guidance with special offer menu selections, very helpful Landlord and waitress, our food and drinks were served quickly all tables were full a busy sat lunchtime a good sign; we chose a Thai veggie platter share menu for two we enjoyed fish cakes, Pad Thai and Green curry with rice. Our food was fresh, traditionally fragrant delicately spiced as respected we ‘really enjoyed’ our visit to The Anchor great atmosphere good music we had one of the best Thai meals we’ve had for a while and we eat out regularly, we will be returning, thank you

Loved it! We had a quick couple of drinks after a cycle ride. The staff are friendly, and the music playing in the background was good fun (funk) … refreshing to go to a place that feels so chilled. Nice not to feel hurried either. Heard they’ve also had a recent revamp. The seating areas are fresh, cosy. Can’t vouch for the food but we’ll definitely be back again. Cheers guys.

We ate here on a Thursday evening. We had booked but expected it to be quite, however it was fairly full. Service was excellent and we both enjoyed the food. We had the sharing starter platter and then had the beef and the duck. All tasty.

Best Thai I have had in a long time

thought long and hard about writing this. this place has the potential to be something special with a bit of effort with the food. had mixed starters to start and were told it was bought in. i could tell anyway. then the red curry had reconstituted chicken in it! either do it properly or don't bother. i've never expeienced this level of apathy towards food anywhere in the world. especially thai food, where i've eaten the most amazing meals in the least sulubrious places imaginable. won't be back.

The food is excellent despite a little bit of upselling. Nice selection of beers but it could be boosted with a few extra guests. Portions are on the smaller side, but the quality is top.

Lovely food really enjoyed it , bur beware we booked a table for 4 at 18. 45 on a Friday we had our starter, very nice , then our main arrived only to be told we had 30 minutes to eat up and vacate the table it certainly put a dampener on our evening and realistically to have a meal with friends in an hour and 15 is beyond reasonable . They need to make the timescale clear when booking, if they had we wouldn’t have come .

Fantastic Thai green cury, lovely food.

The service was lovely and the food was delicous and flavour full. The staff were very accommodating, fitting us in without a booking, but we will book to ensure a table in the future. They were also understanding when the mild curry was too hot for our tastes and quickly fetched some coconut milk to adapt it more to our palate.

Such a super surprise to find this wonderful Thai food in a great Pub! Try the Duck; gorgeous.

Excellent gluten free Thai food.

Went to The Anchor to listen to salsa music by the Tradicionales amateur band and had the best Thai lunch ever. Proper Thai, with excellent service and a easy going atmosphere. Plenty of vegetarian and GF options. We are going back there soon!

Wow what a place! I have been a few times for food. Each and every time it's exceptional. So authentic, tasty and moreish. Burwell is very lucky to have a place like this, and would strongly recommend it to everyone. From time to time they have events too and there was a fantastic 12 piece Latin/Jazz band on Sunday (10-9-23) who were superb. What an atmosphere!

The Thai food was very good, on par with The Plough at Little Downham, but not as many Prawns as The Wrestlers. Beer was not all green king and in good condition. The first time I have ever seen Jonny's cider on draught, that is Spinney Abbey Cider. A really step up from the previous visits, keep it up Anchor.

We visited The Anchor in Burwell for a Thai after being recommended by our interior designer - who designed The Anchor! We were blown away!! The food was the best Thai I have had and we all agreed! I can’t wait to return and enjoy another load of tasty Thai delights!

Have heard lots of good things recently about The Anchor but this was our first visit and we loved it. Very busy on a Saturday night, great atmosphere, brilliant service and gorgeous food - we will definitely be back.

If I were giving a score based on food alone it would be 5 stars, lovely Thai food. However, when paying the £47 bill which we thought was reasonable the waiter took the 3 £20 notes from my husband, said thank you and then just as he walked through the door he waved and told my husband to have a lovely weekend!! Feeling too embarrassed to find someone and ask for the change my husband went to the bar and ordered another drink instead and told them to keep the change. I was not at the table at the time having gone to the loo, had I witnesses this I would have gone to the bar myself and asked for the change so I could decide how much of a tip to leave. We always leave a tip wherever we go, but for a staff member to presume to keep a £13 tip on top of a £47 bill was unbelievable! Even the table of guests next to my husband couldn't believe their eyes and commented that they would pay by card! It was such a shame, and so cheeky. In fact it was very rude of him and I am very unimpressed.

Great pub, great locations and atmosphere, taken my girlfriend here twice, once before and once after opening the new beer garden. Food was fast but tasty and there is a good range of beers on tap. 10/10

A wonderful evening of laughs coupled with great service, terrific Thai cuisine, and a lovely ambience.

We had dinner here for the first time on a recent Saturday. Place very full, but tables are well separated. Obviously newly renovated. Staff very efficient. Both of us had the set menu, which was all lovely.. Thought the price was a fair one. Live in the next village, so are sure to return. Highly recommended.

We visited here on a Friday evening. It was busy so booking is a good idea. Food excellent - the Thai dishes delicious. Service was friendly and attentive. We live in the village so this will now be a regular restaurant for us to use. We will also be trying their takeaway option.

Service was amazing, very friendly helpful staff. The food was out of this world, I havnt stopped telling people to go visit since I have been. We had the sharing platter which was Lovley , was really nice to try things I havnt had before Really well priced.

Very popular Thai restaurant, even on a Tuesday evening, would recommend you book. Good menu selection, good size portions my only slight criticism is that the dessert selection let them down only 3 offerings and 2 of these were banana, so that was limiting, - we just picked the banana out of the dessert, so not a big issue but perhaps a wider variation would be better

Possibly the best Thai food I've had outside of Thailand. Drunken noodles were incredibly tasty. So glad to see The Anchor doing well again. Nice to see non-Greene King beers on tap too.

What an amazing meal served hot and fresh with so much flavour. Service was exemplary. Staff were friendly and very attentive. Can fully recommend the bao bun desert with banana and toffee sauce. Will certainly book again.

A table of 8 dinners near us asked to see the chef. Oh dear thought I, this may not go well. They cheered and applauded him for the quality of their meal! Need I say more.

Stopped at the anchor when it was a gastro pub but it wasn't for me unfortunately it closed but then a miracle happened they opened a Thai restaurant best thing they could do food was brilliant beer also good and the staff are so helpful in helping you to pick the best meals you may enjoy I hope to go back soon

Good Thai food, plenty of spice and flavour, nothing unexpected and lacking the complexity of flavour combinations I expect with great Thai food. Alcohol free beers as well as some nice options on tap, appreciated as I was the designated driver! Service was a little fragmented, but as we were out for a relaxed evening it was fine to be a bit slower paced.

What a great experience, The pub is in a great location, well looked after inside and out. And has ample parking received a warm welcome from the staff, seated straight away and served with drinks in no time. The food is to die for I had a Thai red curry which I could only describe to my partner as a little bowl of heaven, the chicken was tender the curry sauce had so much flavour, my partner had drunken noodles which although a little spicy for her liking she enjoyed thoroughly. The staff even though very busy were attentive and friendly at all times. I’m looking forward to my next visit and take away meals from there.

My partner and I booked to come here for my birthday. My partner booked this 26th May 2022. We got a confirmation email and we travelled an hour to get here to find the pub was closed without any notice given to us. To say we’re disappointed is an understatement. Now I can understand why the pub is closing.

Lovely country pub at the far end of Burwell (We drove from Cambridge), a large and exceptionally picturesque village in Cambridgeshire. We went for Sunday lunch in June and although a tad pricey, the limited menu had exactly what you want for a Sunday lunch. The meat was ex eptio ally well cooked. Unfortunately the pub is closing down soon but rather than being sold on for housing, it looks like it's just a case of the resident named chef moving on and Green King installing different managers instead. While a shame to lose the chef, the pub itself is in an idyllic location. There is a small carpark - big enough for 8 - 10 cars alongside it.

We asked for fish&chips and they told us they were out of stock and half an hour later two men came over and they were served with guess what! Fish and chips! We also asked to be moved on a table next to the window but it was a table of four and since we were two, they said no. One hour later, 2 ladies were seated in a table of 4 next to the window! Food was OK.

Outstanding food, beautiful building, great service, well-kept beer, nice seating in evening sun - exceptional all round! We sampled 3 courses and all agreed it was the best pub meal we'd had for very a long time. Very fine cooking, but also the good beer is important to us, and with the great service and atmosphere combined to make a very enjoyable evening to linger over.

Sunday lunch treat. Presentation amazing. Atmosphere and staff also great. Only issue was food was only lukewarm/cold. What a shame as was 8 of us.

Popped in for lunch, pleasantly surprised yo see a named chef on the menu and nice interior decor. It raised our expectations. Staff were friendly and helpful Went into the beer garden to eat as it was warm and sunny. Witness was lovely but we have no clue as to why she didn't bring cutlery and condiments before bringing our meals. Food arrived and looked good, even if the fish batter looked a little well done. However, smashing the garden peas does nothing to enhance flavour or appearance. It does let them get cold much more quickly. The double width triple fried chips may or may not have looked better on the plate, depending on your perspective, but they didn't eat nearly as well as standard shaped chips, they were way too dry with too much inside and not enough outside. The fish was nice, the batter was very crispy and crunchy but we couldn't taste the cider in the batter. Was it worth £15? I don't think so. And if we had approached the pub from the car park we may not have gone in at all. The mass of dead fridges and empty cooling oil containers and other detritus is distinctly unattractive and the beer garden needs weeding and sweeping and also a pressure wash. . Sadly, the expectations raised by the chef name on the menu were not met.

Really lovely, sophisticated food plus great pub staples under the new chef. I had beautiful mussels as a starter that were delicious and perfectly cooked. It was a generous portion and would do as a light lunch. I also had the Caesar salad which was light and tasty and presented with a modern spin. Fish n chips looked great. Lovely bread - again massive portion. Will be back again soon.

Had the Sunday roast - the beef, Yorkshire pudding and 3 roast potatoes were lovely however beware of the extras we asked for more gravy as there was very little on the plate and were charged an extra £2 for it !!! The cauliflower cheese...

Great food - huge portions - and friendly service. Despite living in the village it is a while since we have eaten here, but we weren't disappointed and we won't leave it so long next time.

Roast dinner tasty but stone cold on cold plates. Had to ask for veg 3 times. No serving spoons. Very poor plate of food. No one came to table asked if everything was OK. Poor Would not revisit. Offered free deserts when you don't eat desserts.

Extremely basic evening menu, no starters simply an option of nibbles. Main event basically a choice of fish and chips, pie, vegetarian option, garlic chicken, ragu or steak. Very disappointed.

I went to the anchor in Cambridge for a lunch with some friends and we absolutely loved it. The service was very good and quickly and the food was well presented and tasted amazing. I had the vegan burger and was by far one of the best in town. We will definitely come back.

Not sure why the low reviews have been coming in. I went here for my mum's birthday recently and we had a wonderful time. We were greeted warmly by the staff who took very good care of us, and went the extra mile to make sure we were satisfied. The food was of excellent quality and the presentation refined. Will definitely be recommending this place to others!
