We have just come back from a 2 night stay at the Amberley Inn. What a lovely stay we had we were greeted and looked after by Skye as we arrived, and on the first night in the bar and restaurant, all other staff were equally attentive. Delicious 3 course meal with wine, Perfect breakfast in the morning served by Jennifer who looked after a busy breakfast room wonderfully, nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff this day too. We went to a wedding on the second night. But had another great breakfast on our last day. Rooms were lovely and clean, staff all amazing I just only took 2 names sorry to everyone else. Food was just amazing too. Can’t wait to return thank you amberley inn!

Awful, there is no way this is a 4 star.. 2 star at best.. The Room was dirty, the bed was like sleeping uphill, there was a real musky smell in the corridors and there was scum around the bathroom taps. Maybe a bit of music at breakfast? It all felt very quiet and awkward. It was also about 500 degrees in there. No sleep due to a pipe that sounded like a horse galloping down the road, i did approach the gentleman on reception to be told his maintenance man will look at it, he came in the room and listened then left and didn’t return!

This hotel was disappointing. They can't help the steep stairs and uneven floors, but they seriously need to improve the plumbing - the shower ran alternately very hot, and cold, and it wasn't easy to control. Breakfast was quite late at 8.30, and the staff were slow to serve. A polite request for toast was met with a slightly surprised 'Do you want some?'. Well, yes! And we were not impressed by much of the yoghurt being a week out of date. Poor value.

The staff here are excellent, as was the food but the room! Desperately in need if redecoration. The bathroom was grim with a mold infested window frame, dirty skirting boards and an impossible shower which got steadily hotter and hotter until forcing you out of the bath to access the controls. The location us ideal for a walking holiday with much to see and enjoy in nearby Cirencester.

We had our Christmas day lunch here this Christmas just gone. Although the overall experience was quite nice, we (2 of us) were very disappointed, when the main course arrived, to find the turkey was very salty, and the veg (because it was plated up before it came out which I thought was unusual for a restaurant of this standard) consisted of 2 small broccoli florets, just THREE brussel sprouts, THREE slices of carrot, and NONE of the traditional parsnips. For £73 a head we were very disappointed.

What a fabulous Sunday lunch we had last weekend. We selected the Amberley Inn to take my father there for his Birthday celebration after hearing great comments from several of our friends. The Roast selections were amazing, and they even accommodated my 93-year-old father who wanted Fish & Chips, which wasn’t even on the menu! The staff were so friendly and attentive, and we had a lovely afternoon admiring the views and free-range cows! I would definitely recommend this place and will definitely be back.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

We booked a Christmas Day meal here last year, to say it was a disaster is an understatement, it was like faulty towers only not funny. Can I start by saying the young staff did their utmost to look after us, but unfortunately they weren’t qualified enough to handle the day, but they were wonderful and tried their best. When we turned up there, we were not greeted or shown to our table, we had to find it ourselves, there was champagne on the sideboard that we helped ourselves to, but there was no orange juice or non alcoholic drink for the driver you had to pay for that! We waited over an hour for the starter, although they did say they were running late, just not that late! The starter was satisfactory at best. We then waited for the sorbet, I think it would of been lovely, but it was served in hot manikins and was a wet warm mess, although it tasted nice! We then waited for a further 30 mins for our main meal to be served, bearing in mind we were a large table of 16, and apart from 1 person we all had the Christmas turkey roast, when I say turkey we couldn’t make out whether it was Bernard Mathews turkey or cheap turkey slices from the supermarket, as we only had 1 tiny slice each it was a job to tell! The vegetables were served on the plate, some people had sprouts some didn’t, some had black carrots some didn’t, we all had 2 boiled potatoes and only some had roasters , we all had roasted chestnuts, which were burnt and vile, oh and they forgot the pigs in blankets completely and nobody had a Yorkshire pudding. The pudding was absolutely beautiful, I think it was bought in but it was lovely, unfortunately the Christmas pudding was minute and vile, no custard or cream! Next came the cheese board which was an absolute disaster, only 2 tiny platters were bought out, no plates no,forks and only enough for maybe 6 people? We were lucky enough to be served chocolate truffles which were amazing, but unfortunately there were no forks to eat them with, no plates and again the dish they were bought in on, was hot so they melted, but I adore them like that, so i probably eat most of them. Finally we were asked if we would like tea and coffee, we all said yes, but again unfortunately there wasn’t enough cups, the coffee ran out and the milk had gone sour, by this time I think there was only 1 member of staff left and he had given up! All in all I think for 16 of us plus drinks the bill came to £1500, extortionate for the lack of food that was served and the quality of the food, We were absolutely exhausted when we left, I think the whole meal took 5 hours to serve, there was no Christmas music playing, and very poor Christmas decorations, for such an amazing place this surprised me. I emailed them the next day to complain about the meal and the service, but received a reply saying they had had no other complaints that day, which I found a bit surprising considering our disastrous meal. Plus there was only a couple of other tables of 2 when we got there at 12.45, and they were finished by the time our starter was brought in. After many many, exchanged emails I gave up and decided that our family would put it down to experience, and just never go there again. I was only after an apology and an explanation as to what went wrong on the day, not any money returned, I don’t think that was too much to expect. Anyway the moral of this story is, beware when you book there for a Christmas Day meal, you might have a shocking meal like us, and at £85 a head it might be a costly meal!

We called by without booking mid week and ate in the bar. Quite a wait initially to find staff who kept disappearing off - you could do with a little bell - but we heard the owners are away which might explain some things and we weren't in a hurry. Staff very friendly and lunchtime menu ok however toast is not rocket science on an all day breakfast and oughtn't be burnt black on one side and neither should what was I think a very tasty and promising home made burger be nuked also charred at the edges. We didn't have the heart to mention it despite a longish wait, assuming the kitchen was struggling for some reason and they were fine with swapping my fries out for some good mash potato. Reading other reviews it looks like the nice evening menu is still going the squid last time was fab and perhaps we had a cover Chef this week so we remain very open minded, the inn is in such a peaceful pretty setting on the edge of the common. The art work in the snug is a good idea but a little pricey and the ground floor loos could do with lightening up / opening up somehow it's quite bijou in there for us girls! Please keep the standards up you've got a lovely Inn in a lovely location with very nice approach roads over the common.

However when ordering desert, where we just wanted the creme brulee and rhubarb crumble without custard, cream or ice cream we were told we had to pay the full rate, which we thought was unfair. In other establishments this can easily be taken off, not here though, with the management saying the price is the price. So we did not order as we felt this was was uncompromising. This may be a small point in the grand scheme of things but we are paying guests and a little give and take can go a along way, however NO is NO at the Amberley......We won't bother again, remember this is the hospitality industry.

Sunday roast was cooked to perfection! At last found a pub that serves proper crispy roast potatoes and tasty gravy (in a separate jug and plenty of it). The roast beef was tender, tasty swede mash and a medley of vegetables of mangetout, beans, cabbage, peas and carrots. Plus a huge Yorkshire pudding. My only slight negative was it could have been a bit hotter but really everything else was so perfect that this was a minor thing. Wish I hadn’t shared a starter of garlic mushrooms as good it was as I left little room for the dessert. But I couldn’t resist! I had the rhubarb and ginger crumble with custard which I could only manage a few mouthfuls of- it was really nice though. Husband had profiteroles which he enjoyed. Overheard owner saying the chef used to cook for Princess Ann. I’ve probably got the same high standards when it comes to Sunday roast so met my ‘princess’ expectations!

Upon returning to Minchinhampton after a shopping trip during the Christmas period we stopped off for a 'pub lunch'. I hadn't been here for a number of years, having only visited it for a evening meal previously in Springtime.

Sat in a lovely bar with oak panelled walls, with a big open fire, infront of me delicious shin of beef and red wine pie with powdery mash, grave and a lovely pint of Budding. Whats not to like?? How anyone can state this food is mediocre clearly does'nt know what they are talking about. Can recommend and will be back!

I used to love eating at this pub and for a couple of years we used to come nearly every week. The food used to be excellent and it is a lovely building/setting. I think that the management must have changed though. The bar menu is now uninspiring with a very limited range of sandwiches and traditional pub meals and there is a very limited selection for vegetarians. They do all day breakfasts / brunch but it was rather pricey for what you get - I had to ask for some toast as an extra with my scrambled eggs and it arrived as small triangles of bread!! Next time we'll stay home!

We found this pub/hotel quite by chance and what a find. We needed to find somewhere that could accommodate five people and two dogs. We arrived an hour early but still had a warm welcome, there were doggy treats on the bar and bowls of fresh water outside and in the bar. The meals were generous and served by the most lovely friendly but not intrusive staff. Despite being dog friendly the pub was spotlessly clean and the hotel simply oozed character, the type of place you would expect to find on the moors.

What can I say, a great time was spent at the Inn this weekend. There were 16 of us on our annual pre Christmas get together. We were looked after well, everyone was happy with their rooms, the food was excellent so complements to the chef. A special thank you to Michael who looked after us so well during our stay.

Sometimes a menu doesn't offer the exact combination that suits the customer and it's then that 'service' becomes more than just a word. We were delighted at the proactive support from the staff to ensure that our meals were perfect for us in every respect. The final offering was only loosely related to the formal menu but it was exactly what we wanted and with no penalty on the bill. It just doesn't get better than that!

Firstly - extremely accommodating management! I booked the room on a non refundable basis, only for the other half of our partnership to decide that actually he was hotfooting it across to Germany for some football game that night..... Tantrums aside from me, the lovely team at The Amberley were happy for us to move out booking out to a non-work/non-football night a couple of weeks later. Once we arrived I was little freaked out by the lack of parking, but despite my references to the "hotel with no parking" - I am frequently reminded that actually I managed to park about 50yds away on a quiet road.....but hey, it wasn't a carpark (and trust me, there was an awful lot of circling and eyeing up spaces and basic stressing going on!!)Once we were finally in the hotel though it really was a little haven. Lovely bubbly staff who were more than happy to actually HELP!! Bliss!! The poor lad in the bar was on his very first shift - but he did an awesome job of coping with all the questions/queries and general chit chat. We were certainly pleased to see him pop up in the restaurant a bit later - and he did a great job! Hope you stayed on!!The food was great and when local wine is offered - it always has to be a must try. Thoroughly enjoyable here though and would certainly have it again. My only criticism of the restaurant would be it was so very bright. It's small and cosy - but BRIGHT. I do have an issue with strong lightening though and generally wish people would just employ a dimmer switch and give my poor eyes a rest!!The room however was marvellous - double aspect with a gorgeous heavy wooden four poster. Absolutely loved it!!

We've stayed here twice now and each time been warmly received. The first time we were generously given a complimentary upgrade. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are a good size and the beds extremely comfortable with excellent quality bedding and pillows. The courtesy tray is excellent. The breakfast which is included in the price of the room is plentiful in choice and quantity. The evening meals are good too and much of the food is locally sourced. A high standard all round.

We live in the Cotswolds and always looking for somewhere different to go for dinner. Although the Amberley Inn is fairly close to us, we hadn't eaten there. It was a nice change to see tablecloths on the tables. The food was excellent, we did have quite a wait, but the Hotel, Restaurant and Bar were extremely busy. We weren't in a hurry so it was not a problem. All the food is locally sourced and of top quality and plenty of choice. We had the lamb on the recommendation of our friends and it didn't disappoint. We will definitely return. Relatives of ours had stayed here last year and said how good it was, we now understand what they were saying.

Went here for Sunday lunch. Being coeliac I need gluten free options and there was a good choice (but unfortunately no gluten free Yorkshire pudding). They also have a choice for gluten free desserts which was great. I had the gluten free sticky toffee pudding with ice cream and it was delicious. My non-coeliac husband also enjoyed his meal.

We happened to be in the area 7.30pm on a Sunday evening and passed by the Amberley Inn so we stopped for tea. Really pleased to discover the full menu was available. Enjoyed our fresh white bait lightly dusted tender salt and pepper squid, hake fillet and rump of lamb plus desserts. The team were accommodating and gave us some useful local information - the cows begin grazing on the Common from next week so be careful driving through at night - it would have been nice to have a toasty warm open fire going but we understand a few of us came in this evening out of the cold and the kitchen & team did very well accommodating three tables in the bar as well as in the restaurant. We'll pop in again when next passing through thank you. Quite nice having the informal parking on the edge of the Common too nice open views

Dressing gowns were provided.Room had superb free WiFi and multi channel TV. Bed was a very big and very comfy 4 poster. Breakfast had a very good selection, served by a very polite young lady. I had an evening meal which was well presented and very tasty.Previously when visiting Stroud I have stayed in the premier Inn or travelodge. Thankfully they were full and I found the Amberley Inn.I would use again without hesitation.

Everything was just perfect - the food was imaginative and fresh, expertly cooked and served piping hot (not always easy to achieve in a party of 11), and the waiting staff were efficient and friendly. The restaurant caters exceptionally well for those who have to eat gluten-free (pretty much everything on the menu is available), as well as vegetarians (first-class cheese souffle according to those who tried it). The log-fires and the welcome extended to our two well-behaved dogs were also much appreciated.Add to that the fact that the location and the hotel/restaurant are just beautiful, surrounded National Trust land for walking, with villages and towns such as Cirencester a short distance away, and it all adds up to a perfect hotel for lunch or a weekend break

Six of us visited on Sunday 13 November for family celebration. It took 3 hours for them to serve us a basic three course Sunday lunch. It took them over half an hour to even take our food order. We had to call the waitress every time we wanted something such as another drink or desert. There was no apology for the massive delay or lack of attention. We had to send the creme brûlée back as it was runny and under cooked. The replacement had just been pulled from a fridge as it was freezing cold. My treacle tart was over baked, I left the pastry! It was just a really awful lunch. We didn't bother to complain as no one seemed to care about the appalling service. It's rare I don't leave a tip but I didn't leave one here. Won't be going back.

We haven't been to The Amberley Inn in years but popped in as we had heard so many people saying how lovely it was. What a lovely spot. Fires were roaring and we sat in the oak paneled room enjoying our lunch. I had a monster rib of beef sandwich with the best chips I have tasted in years. My friend enjoyed their burger and if they had any complaint it was only they didn't have enough time to stop for pudding. We will definately be back soon and next time will spend more time here. By the way local ales are available all the time Tom Long and Budding and a guest ale every week. Also two or three ciders were available too.

I booked for a Saturday evening early so was one of the first tables. The room was very pleasant, table immaculate. I thought the room could have had some soft music in background as when everyone is eating clattering cutlery and the salt and pepper grinders squeaked so badly it hurt the ears. I asked several questions about the menu which was answered well and I slightly altered the dish I had chosen. The food was excellent although we did have to wait a while for our main course.

My sister and I chose to eat here today as it is dog friendly. We phoned beforehand to make sure that we could have the Sunday lunch menu in the bar and we were pleased that we could. We both chose the hake - it was beautifully presented with about five vegetables also cooked to perfection. We followed that with a stunning lemon posset and an affogato complete with Amaretto. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended.

Minchinhampton Common is a place of great natural beauty, and it is delightul to drive across the high heath and drop down to the inn. Our arrival was enlivened by having to share the road with a group of cows, which roam freely on the common. The hotel itself is a handsome Cotswold stone building nestling beneath the brow of the hill. We had chosen the lounge bar in preference to the dining room, an airy panelled room with only three tables. Service was friendly and polite, a tad slow, but not enough to irk. The menu is varied and includes sandwiches and lighter dishes. As starters four of us shared a plate of well prepared calamari and a Peking duck salad, fresh and tasty. Main courses were fish and chips, a mushroom omelette, the house burger (excellent) and a Tuscan vegetable pie. All were decently prepared. Although I am an omnivore, I decided on a whim to go vegetarian. I suspect that the pie was not made on the premises but made by a local artisanal producer. I had bought it directly before and find it a little stodgy. My vegetables were perfectly cooked, which is to say still crisp and green, which was welcome. This is not haute cuisine, but it is honest fare, well priced, in pleasant surroundings. That is ignoring the meeting of a folk band in the adjoining bar.
