The Amber Tavern in Birmingham

Went to the Amber tavern today. The last time I wrote a review 500 people looked at it. I do not write reviews for gain I have had other pub reviews who have offered me £10 off the next meal etc but I always refuse as they are admitting poor service. Anyway back to my review of the Amber tavern. Me and my wife went back after the last time when the food was cold. This time the food was very good I had steak and my wife had a nice burger. Everything was hot well cooked and presented to a very high standard. The bar staff were very polite and the waitress was very professional. I will go back again. Well done 👏 the manager and your excellent team please give them my gratitude.

Came here yesterday lunch time with hubby, sister and brother in law. We had tandoori chicken,burger, scampi and a curry, no complaints beautiful food and 40% off mains couldn't be better. 3 of us even managed puddings 😀

Lovely pub, great atmosphere, very clean and top notch 'pub grub'

As a teetotaller, I don't usually frequent pubs, but Amber Tavern is an exception. Whenever there's a football game featuring our favorite club or the England team I join my mates there and we always have a great time.The atmosphere is electric, making it the perfect spot to watch a match.I just stick to soft drinks but even without alcohol I can appreciate the lively energy and camaraderie that Amber Tavern offers during game nights. It's become our go-to spot for football and it never disappoints.

My daughter has been violently sick with food poisoning since eating here on Saturday and it has been marked as 'temporarily closed' since.

Great venue for a meet up and meal. Food was good but beer quality mixed.

We go every Wednesday evening for friendship meet up. The food, drinks and service are 10 out of 10. The staff are friendly and very accommodating, which is very kind of them to accommodate the group.

Clean busy on the weekends and food is at a reasonable price.the two benches closet to the door outside where people smoked have gone

Came In here after having a really crappy day my day couldn't of gone any worse and turned up here and wow what staff especially trudy who welcomed us 10 mins before food was due to close and made sure that we ordered in time and kindly told the chef to make sure this is a special one as we had the worst day ever will highly recommend just for the staff well done you have my day ( well rest of it )

I'm part of a social group who meet weekly at the Amber Tavern, where we've always been looked after by Trudy and the team. However this evening we experienced an unpleasant incident with a new member who offended members of the group and was rude to the barstaff. Management could not have handled it better, going above and beyond.....not only to ensure that the individual left the pub, but also ensuring that the rest of us were OK afterwards Thank you.......it was very much appreciated

Went in to watch the football with friends. There was barely room to move. Understandably service was slow for food. Which was the standard pub fayre fish and chips, nachos, chicken wings. 3/5 I went into the sports bar to get drinks, and saw the bar man serving young people i knew to be underage. When I challenged him. I was told to mind my own business 'as he knew how to do his job, and if I had an issue I could leave.' At which point I did leave.

Went with family for husband's 70th Birthday food all came out together was hot everyone said the service and food was excellent.

Went to the Amber today Wednesday me and the wife we had not been there for a few weeks as the food was lukewarm. So we decided to see what it was like now. Ordered steak and a mixed grill. The wife's steak was supposed to be medium it was rare and lukewarm warm as the plates were cold so this doesn't help. My mixed grill was all lukewarm only the chips were quite warm, plate cold, left most of it. Won't be going back. Most say the staff are lovely friendly and helpful. Last part the dog loved the left overs so take your dog there.

I attended a wake with my partners family and we arrived slightly earlier than everyone else but we were welcomed and were able to purchase drinks right away. The food was also served hot and was delicious.

Although the pub was extremely busy due to the very warm weather,friendly welcome from bar staff and served promptly.Ordered food after first drink and this was served promptly and politely by waitress.Found the food delicious👏👏Highly recommend this pub for either drinks or food * * * * *

Where to start haven’t been here for a while but lady that serviced me when I arrived was really nice just went down hill from there, went back up bar to get drink stood there for 2/3 minutes while bartender had a chat with someone on other side off the bar when she finish her conversation came up to where I was went straight to a gentleman and asked him what he would like he kindly said that I was 1st rolled eyes n served me as I was ex barmaid but was a bit disappointed as a good bartender should know who is next. Food arrived chips were cold we had a sizzler with no sizzling. Very disappointed.

Well I order a plater and it cost £11 something and it’s a ridiculous size not worth the money 🤮 I always use this pub and was very disappointed will not eat here again and will not recommend to anybody honestly can’t believe it as I’ve always eaten here and the food was so much better before waste of money and time 😔

Bought 2 meals for £11.95...I think it was I had lasagne made with red Wine BEAUTIFUL , friend had fish and chips...generous helping. Nice open place with room between tables

Nice meal. 3 in party, 1 mega curry, 1 mixed grill and 1 tandoori skewers. All pleased with our respective choices. Quite busy today. Staff very pleasant and efficient. Entrance and lots of seating on car park level for less abled. A few blue badge parking places. Ground level toilets. Well worth a visit. Good, varied menu.

Great Saturday night. Fast service and great sizzling steak. Entertainment to with Amy Winehouse singer. I have breakfast here too. Very relaxing.

Emma makes the beast cocktails and the atmosphere is welcoming and amazing food is great all round great service

The staff should be awarded for their excellent customer service. The only negative was the toilets were not as clean as they should be.

What a wonderful experience from start to finish! Staff were exceptional! Smartly dressed, attentive, friendly and hospitable. Service was quick. Waitress came over during meal to remove any empty glasses and asked us if everything was ok. We ordered the Tandoori chicken which was absolutely delicious. Very nice atmosphere. Will definately be returning. 10/10

Not very good. Missed the chicken off the greek burger so sent it back, the same meal came back out with something extra on it, it didn't taste great or like chicken. Had the paaarty time Sunday got one party ring broken up and a few bits of cake so it was just vanilla ice. Will not come here again

Lovely breakfast and fantastic service

I have lived in England for 30 years ,I am from Canada. I had my first visit to the Amber Tavern on Hagley Road this afternoon. I ordered a sizzling 8 ounce sirloin steak, I just had to give this review as this steak is the best I have had since I have resided in England , delicious 😋! The service was excellent. When I placed my order at the bar I made a mistake and ordered fries for my wife but she wanted onion rings, when the order arrived my wife noticed my error and said to me about the mistake I had made, straight away the lady who had brought our order said she would switch the fries for onion rings ,I thought this was a very nice thing for her to do. We will definitely be back. Thank you to all the staff at the Amber Tavern!

Lovely food. Quick service and friendly staff. Only negative is some seats are uncomfortable and need replacing.

Family visit. Food was excellent. I had the 2 8oz steaks med/well first class.

With family and friends, food was very good for the price , some great deals on as well. The staff brought a birthday cake over, and sung happy birthday to my lad . We had cocktails after , which again are very reasonably priced.

I had a large table booked for our family to celebrate my daughters birthday the staff were so acomadating, the food was brought out quickly for the number of guests we had and were very polite and had a positive attitude. The food was absolutely fantastic! I was so impressed I've told loads of people about our experience and we definitely will be coming again.

The first time we had been there it was my sons birthday so we booked a table as soon as we walked to the bar the lovely staff were only willing to help you there was no rush we ordered our food and and within 10 minutes it was at our table sizzling and smelling lovely the food was well presented and the staff were brilliant the food was piping hot and all three of us had different meals the steak was cooked perfectly and the tandori chicken with hot vegetables was great I would like to thank the staff for being so attentive we are planing our next visit for my birthday in April we done to all the staff

Amber Tavern. I love this place. They are magnificent people the staff and the stablishment. Always positive energy and vibes sports live family atmosphere anything a person or a family could wish or desire you can find it here. Thank you very much for being so kind best wishes and regards. It's a must a hidden gem in the West Midlands

Food absolutely gorgeous nice and fresh , wasn’t burnt or rushed. Literally lovely staff amazing , really good day out.

Shabby and dated, only stopped for a couple of pints on the way in to town, adequate for a thirst quencher

If you want a good meal this is the place to be I had there mega mixed grill and it was delicious and you’ve got a good gaffer with great staff

Waiting staff absolutely brilliant.

Unfortunately when we arrived the table that was reserved for us was occupied even though it had a reserved notice. Eventually a team member came to help and the situation was resolved. Our meals were ordered and were delivered promptly and were hot, as requested, which was an improvement on the previous visit.

Lukewarm processed food. Lukewarm service. The meals looked appetising on the menu but when they came out, it was clear that there isn't any love for the job in the kitchen. Presentation was awful. The meals had clearly been standing for a while as they were dry and cool. Think, tepid school dinners in the 1980's. The meat was poor quality. "Pork belly" is simply reconstituted/reformed, thin slithers of fat that looks a little like gammon. Steak was overdone and the chicken breast appeared slimy and equally processed. Chips were tepid, gravy cold but the sausage was OK. Starters were OK but nothing special. Bar service was good but for cripes sake smile! Table service was lacklustre....and they expect a tip when ordering online BEFORE the food or service has arrived....a bit presumptuous, and we didn't the think the food or service worthy of a tip. Nobody asked if the food was OK. Won't be returning.

Needs an overhaul, shabby and dated but reasonably priced.

Two of us visited here as it was near to where my friend lives. She had fish & rice and I had fish and chips. Fish and the chips were nice but the peas were a little dry. Couple of the tables looked like they were wiped over but not properly cleaned. Bar and waiting staff were polite and helpful.

The food was somehow equal levels of burnt, cold and tasteless. Typical chain restaurant/ pub whereby you order at the bar, wait forever for cold food and whilst it is cheap, it really shows through the entire experience

The only thing good about this pub was the atmosphere the food was flavourless and dry had rack of ribs description said loaded with bbq sauce and chillie dorito crumb I had 1 tiny bit of sauce and 1 dorito the ribs were very pale looking. I asked them to take this back to the kitchen I then ordered a caesar salard and that was not nice either in the description it dosnt not say it comes with cheese And mine had grated cheese all over it and was not nice No flavour at all Drinks were good but food never eat here again

Me and my wife come here for some food my wife had the full rack of ribs and I had the mega mix grill we waited 45 minutes for our food and my wife's ribs was dry and had no flavour and wasn't hot so I complained my wife changed it to a cesar salad with chicken and bacon the cesar salad come out hotter than the ribs my mix grill was cold and all my meat was cold and the cesar salad with chicken and bacon was £3:29 cheaper than the ribs but never got it back and the cesar salad come with cheese but it didn't say it come with cheese on the menu the food was disgraceful

First visit since the refurb. Good atmosphere and menu still has a great choice of pub classics & combos. Hopefully will be serving for many more years to come. Deffo worth a visit for newbies 😉👍

A fine establishment. Helpful, friendly and enthusiastic bar staff made for a great experience. Food was exactly what it says on the tin. Great place for a quick bite to eat and spacious sports bar for a game of pool or darts if you fancy. Would recommend.

Great pub. Great Guinness. Megan and Emma are the best behind the bar. Only thing i will say is Jack the barman needs a new pair of jeans.

Fantastic food and great staff, since my partner and I chose this establishment for a drink and Meal we are frequent visitors because it's a family friendly pub with delicious food at a reasonable price, we have taken my family and friends for birthday celebrations and can't find a fault whatsoever , I highly recommend the Amber for lovely food drink environment and staff.

We have been twice recently and can't reccomend enough nice atmosphere lovely staff and the food was genuinely the best pub food I have ever had,can't wait to go back and get on another mega mixed grill

Tried to book a table on Christmas eve for drinks. Hadn't heard back, but went anyway. The pub was packed, but the staff were exceptional _ they went around the whole pub trying to find us a space. We ended up having a great night. We had food, which was very good. The staff were all working so hard that night, but remained friendly all evening. Will definitely return

As always the service was great and we were very satisfied with the food and drink. The staff are always very polite and accommodating and make us feel valued and welcome whether we’re popping in for just a quick drink, spot of lunch or family birthday celebration. My elderly mother doesn’t eat out often but when she does we only ever bring her to the Amber Tavern as in her words she’s “never had a bad steak at the Amber!” Since we first had a family meal here in 2019 for my sons 16th birthday it has now become a tradition that we try and come for my sons birthday on 10th Oct and my mother’s on 29th Dec. She was 70 on this visit and my son will be 21 in 2024 so here’s to many more enjoyable meals at the Amber Tavern

Great place for food and drink and the family

This place is brilliant Lovely pub the food was amazing had the t bone special and was cooked to perfection, everyone was more than Happy with there food, service was amazing and the young lady with red hair on the bar was brilliant, thank you very much

Had the special: T-bone steak, was cooked perfectly medium rare and tender. Chef Alex, and amazing and experienced chef, couldn’t have cooked it better. This place also looks amazing and excellent for family dinners.

Food was tasty and presented well.

It's been years since I'd been in this pub( Bass House). We went and had lunch there and was pleasantly surprised at the good and varied menu. The food was excellent and the staff were very helpful. We will definitely be returning. Another great night celebrating my mother's birthday. The food was amazing,10 of us and we all enjoyed our meals. Excellent service from the waitresses too.

Been here several times and always had great service. Unfortunately tonight was not the same. Returned a pint that went flat straight away and tasted awful. I asked for different glass and it was better. Happened twice i think glass cleaner not working properly. Staff were great but got a bit fed up returning yet again as ordered orange juice and lemonade. Got a pint of orange juice and to save moaning paid additional £3 for pint of lemonade and had to mix it myself.pity tonight spoiled it for me. Paid over £70 and they kept not adding reward card Food I would highly recommend

I asked for med rare stake, It came out rare and my chips was under cut. They did change it all stake was better chips was better too only one under cut but easy done. My daughter was missing a sausage but was sorted. I told my partner not to eat his gammon and starter fish thing he said its fine. He wished he listened as he got food poisoned.

We have been a few times over the last couple of weeks, our 1st visit was lovely and was for a meal for my birthday, so we returned again with my daughter who had missed our 1st visit. We came last night for dinner and the food was not presented the same, had things missing from my husbands meal. Then we had desserts, my sons ice cream was missed off so again had to ask about this, the brownie must have been dry as my son ended up gagging on it. My husband had a Cadbury lovers Sunday which had no flake or wafer added and I had the sticky Toffee pudding which I left, it was dry, not sticky Toffee like at all and had no taste. Our 1st experiences were so lovely but last night the food was just not upto scratch.

Note to management. I received excellent service from all the staff. Very welcoming and friendly. I would like to say a special thank you to Trudi, who helped we with the app, as I was experiencing problems. Lucky to have her working for your company.

We’re welcomed by the staff and felt in professional hands. Food was cooked to perfection I would recommend trying the Jacob’s ladder.

Food is hot, fresh and very good value for money.

We eat in here on a regular basis , it's local to us. The food is always if great quality and portion sizes are good too. Staff are friendly and always willing to help if something isn't right. We always in their no later than 7pm is the atmosphere has always been relaxed and calm and filled with other families dining.

The food and service was amazing and as someone with a neurodiversity there were plenty of quieter places to sit where I felt comfortable. Thank you to Frankie for such a warm welcome throughout our meal

ordered Cassilero de ablo pinot grigio off the white wine list but received a red wine, ordered child's all day breakfast but they forgot the toast, I had chopped salad with chicken and bacon which should have had red peppers and carrot but none given , had red onion which wasn't in ingredient list staff were friendly enough

An amazing evening enhanced by the wonderful welcoming warm staff member-Will who was entertaining, very helpful to my celiac and veggie needs and made the experience my more enjoyable. He needs to be promoted 👍
