The Alyn in Wrexham

It's been a long time since I last visited the Alyn rossitt and will be a long time before I go back. We were. celebrating my husband's birthday , although the staff were very nice ,the same can not be said for the food. , shocking menu was not what was shown on line ,lots of things they didn't have very poor , very disappointed , won't be going back ,

Had a fab time here with friends, great place for a casual drink but serves really good food as well, all the waiting on staff are well mannered and really helpful!

A stunning building in a beautiful location by the river. Inside a warm reception by friendly staff makes for a very comfortable experience to either dine or simply enjoy a few drinks.

We came for a meal and nothing was too much trouble, the staff were very welcoming and friendly and the general atmosphere was cosy and inviting. I had the fish and chips and it was absolutely delicious! Will definitely be back again.

Visited here as a party of 7 for our works Christmas meal. From the moment we arrived staff were extremely friendly and welcoming and nothing too much trouble. Food arrived promptly, portion sizes very generous, I had the turkey dinner, very plentiful and the turkey was cooked to perfection, the burger was also of generous size and very tasty (so I'm told) along with the vegetarian dish. Just about had room for my dessert which was also very nice. Will definitely be returning here.😋

Lunch at The Alyn was so disappointing. I ordered Gammon Steak, chips and peas. Not the most challenging meal to make!! The Gammon was over cooked and tough, the fried egg was frazzled, the chips were potato less and the peas you could use in a slingshot. Whoever is the owner of the Alyn needs to have a serious conversation with the chef. Seriously, just nowhere need good enough. .

Make sure you ask what is avaialble to you before sitting down!!! We Booked table for 2over phone. We were told that they had a large party coming at the time we requested (7pm) and could we come earlier (by 1 hour), so that they could be sure to provide good service. Agreed as we had no other plans. This was for 6:00 pm on a Friday night and thought it would help them out . Arrived and were shown to our table and drink orders taken. Drinks arrived and from the menu ordered 2 mains, one of which was a bog standard steak. Young waitress took our order away but returned about 5 minutes later and stated that”all steaks are off the menu tonight” and I needed to re order. Reluctantly, a replacement was ordered. Half way when we were asked how our food was, I mentioned to another server that the management/chef should be informed that it wasn’t really acceptable to not have a staple menu item available at 6:00 pm on a Friday night service. He responded that that they hadn’t run out of steak, they were merely holding them back for the large party that was arriving, and the “management” had made the decision to tell paying customers they couldn’t have steak! The “management “ were also quite prepared for their young waiting on staff to do their dirty work as they were conspicuous by there absence by this time!! Really poor practice , and… 1. They could have told me when I phoned, especially since we had been told about the large party and we were accommodating their request to arrive earlier. 2. Or they should have told me when we arrived, or at least when they gave us the menus to read, rather than take the order and then return with the news. The food itself (Hunters Chicken and Chicken Tikka) were both average, at best.

Good to see The Alyn open again, people need to come as food was really good Staff lovely and welcoming We had beef burger,with Greek salad ,pork loin with Stilton , scampi and pie of the day, all of our meals were hot tasty and plentiful Couldn’t manage a pud Will be back ,just have to have that burger again and the Greek salad, well done

Delicious Sunday lunch with perfectly cooked lamb and lovely veg .Additional portion of cauliflower cheese was a nice touch.Friendly staff.Will be back to try the Parmo at some point.

Visited with friends for the weekly Tuesday quiz we didn't win, but it's the taking part that counts! 😂. Had a bite to eat beforehand, sampling the alyn burger and the sticky toffe pub, which did not disappoint. Friendly team working, which is great to see. Will definitely be back again soon😊

Came here for dinner with friends (14 of us) for a Christmas get together. Fantastic service, made us feel at home straight away. Lovely atmosphere and very Christmassy with the beautiful decorations. Food was delicious, no one could fault their choice. They even made sorting out a complicated split bill a breeze! Credit it definitely due. This place always had a bad reputation over the years as being the poorest in comparison to the opposition in the surrounding area with their competition. So we tried again following good recommendations, following the new management takeover. Visited tonight and the result was impressive. Starters (pate and white bait ) were great. Mains (sea bass & lamb rump and shepherds pie) were so far past expectations that I needed to leave a review. The meals were at a really high level and at a very good price. The staff were really great and attentive, the building was decorated great (& ready for Xmas), and the music was chilled and unobtrusive. Wine and beer were quality and reasonably priced. Struggling to find anything to criticise, and happy to write this to promote to others, and keep this great place well attended!

Excellent once again and the smoked Haddock chowder is a must. We cant compliment the food and very friendly and helpfull staff enough. We will definately be back. Highly recommended

We decided to try The Alyn for Sunday lunch when friends came over to visit us last week. We were a bit hesitant at first as we had been quite some time ago and it wasn't the best experience. However we're aware that it now has new owners, is in a lovely setting and we had heard some good comments. So pleased we decided to try again. The food and service were brilliant. Sunday lunch was wonderful, extremely tasty with everything you could possibly want. There was also a good choice on the menu for people who didn't want this. We were served by a lovely guy, who I think is called Jim - what a gem he is!! Everyone in our party commented on how much they had enjoyed the visit and would all thoroughly recommend it. The Christmas decorations are gorgeous too.

Nine members of our family were able to lunch here yesterday - the first time together since before the first lockdown. We had originally booked for eight and I phoned yesterday morning for the ninth - no problem. My husband and I had been before and knew how good the food was - everyone else was very impressed, especially the vegetarians. Five were up from the south for the Chester Marathon and will definitely come again. We sat on talking for ages but nobody disturbed us - thank you all.Ruth

We visited on Saturday lunchtime and were greeted warmly. The staff are all really friendly and the place is tastefully decorated and spotless.We has whitebait and pate to start and both had the sweet chilli seafood linguine to follow. I asked for a little extra chilli in mine, and this was no problem. The meals were absolutely delicious, piping hot and of a really high standard. We had a lovely time in pleasant surroundings with a lovely team of people - highly recommended

Just dined at the Alyn,and realy enjoyed both the food and this lovely restaurant,in the perfect setting along side the river.It was the first time we had been back since the new owners took over and updated the decor and menu.I had heard very good reports then saw one bad one,so was unsure whether to give it go,so glad we did.four of us dined ,three had fish and chips,it was enormous and all enjoyed it very much,I picked the wild mushroom risotto,it was so tasty and I am not a vegetarian ,I will have to return to try something else off this menu.

Been again to the alyn for a Sunday roast, and I am not disappointed. The tiger prawns for starter, were gorgeous, And the roast beef is to die for! If you haven’t tried this place I highly recommend. Staff are lovely and very friendly and a very good price for the quality of food

We were worried that The Alyn would not be the same due to the change in management however we were not dissapointed. Lovely food,a cut above usual pub fayre. Great service with nothing being too much trouble. Continues to be one of our favourite places to eat.

We come to Rossett every year or two; I have to, my Mum's buried here, so I have to polish the grave. This year's low point was doing just that in shorts, while kneeling on a red ants' nest. TMI. The high point, though, was going to the Alyn. It's become a bit of a ritual, so we've seen management and owners come and go.I'd read the reviews, so was prepared for good, bad or ugly, but it was a real pleasure - we had a pint at lunch to check it out and book a table for dinner. At dinner, a few things stuck out. First, staff who'd been on duty at lunch had come back (off-duty) for a drink. When was the last time you saw that? Second, they're a really happy, friendly bunch (we met Beverley, who was manager that day, and a waitress who I think was called Seren, but actually everyone was friendly). I think the very first step in making your customers happy is making your staff happy, and that all rubs off on the customers.The third thing was the food - it's not heavenly - you go to a Michelin starred restaurant and pay accordingly, but it was really nice and filling, and more importantly, they were very happy to change the ingredients (omitting coriander from the seafood and pasta dish) to suit us, because, as Beverley said, it's cooked fresh there. The suckling pig was really good, although a bit of a surprise as it looked like a really chunky slice of gammon when it arrived, but I'm not complaining!All in all, if you want a calming, happy, welcoming place, I think this is it. It's also a good antidote to red ant stings...

Lovely now it has been refurbished. Good choice of menu, excellent service and the food was amazing. Brilliant value for money. If I had to complain about anything it would of been the bill. Although wasn’t expensive for 6 of us there were items on there we hadn’t had. My husband had 3 glasses of wine and the waiter said he would charge for a bottle instead as worked out cheaper. When the bill came there were 4 glasses of wine on there and an extra dessert. When we pointed this out he was very apologetic and refunded us for those items straight away but it wasn’t until we left I realised we’d still paid £28.50 for 3 glasses of wine instead of the £23 for the bottle. Now I know this probably was a genuine mistake but my mother, sister and nephews had eaten here earlier in the week and when my sister checked the bill they had also been over charged for food they hadn’t had, which is why we checked our bill. Overall I would definitely recommend and return but I will check the bill.

This year new management is in place and I was pleasantly surprised with the whole experience on my first visit. Staff are friendly and efficient and the food is good too. More than pub grub, but not too fancy and expensive. I think its great and have been back a few times. An informal and relaxed experience. Love sitting out on the terrace alongside the river with the chilled background music in the background.

A very below average and disappointing Sunday lunch that was very moderate. Sunday roast beef served with just mash potato, 2 roast potatoes and a sprig of broccoli that’s it no more vegetables at all now that’s not a traditional Sunday lunch!! My partner had the Caesar salad that came with a bowl full of lettuce, chicken and no anchovies at all which was mentioned in the menu. Poor experience , sadly we shall not be back.

Living locally.ly to the Alyn I have known it for many years with it's numerous owners/management. Most of the time it has punched below its weight and has been very average with little to commend it. I went for lunch last weekend. Helped by great weather we, four, sat outside and the garden area was presentable and neat and tidy. The service was very good and attentive with a number of staff all being helpful and professional and customer-minded. We had drinks and quite "light bites" but it was all very tasty, ample and well presented. Whilst our experience was from dining outside the interior also looked like providing a good ambience. We would now recommend The Alyn so well done to the present team there.

I visited the Alyn this evening for an evening meal by myself. I was greeted very politely by a blonde lady who was very efficient with taking my drink and food order. All the staff were friendly and made me very welcome as I was on my own. The food was delicious, I’ll definitely be returning

I absolutely love this place. Very new chef and management and they are doing excellent! The food was lovely and hot when arrived. A couple doors were open to ventilate the place due to covid which was very considerate but there wasn't to much of a breeze.The meal was very tasty and we went twice this month and will be visiting again soon. Staff are very attentive and kind. Lovely setting by the river and an ideal place for a family meal.I am quite particular about quality but I had the steak and it was cooked perfectly and was very nice. No complaints. There have been some harsh reviews which I think arn't justified , I really think its 100% worth going out for a meal. I will be going again very soon.

We booked our meal on Fathers day and also to celebrate a familly birthday. At 4pm the restaurant wasn't busy, the service started off ok, our waitress Maisie, was attentive and took our order quickly. After a considerable wait, the starters arrived. The chicken liver pate starter was a joke - a small pot of pate and the "toast" was two tiny wafer thin crackers out of a packet! Not all of us had starters and so by the time the plates were cleared, we expected the main meals to follow fairly promptly. After waiting a further 20 minutes, I asked Maisie if our meals were on their way. Maisie checked and returned to say they were being plated up. A further 10 minute wait followed. When the meals came it turned out four were cold and we asked for them to be sent back to the kitchen. We expected hot replacements but instead, they had just been reheated in the microwave. The baked beans and peas were missing from the children's meals. At this point one of our party spoke to the manager Barbara, who was totally oblivious there were any issues in the kitchen. She was apologetic and said a deduction would be made on the final bill. Barbara didn't return to the table afterwards to check if the rest of our meal was ok. We then ordered dessert, they had run out of chocolate brownie on the children's menu and only had honeycomb ice cream left. A further 15 minute wait followed. The desserts were so-so, I wasn't impressed with the baked vanilla cheesecake because I know it came from a large catering company who specialise in frozen pre-proportioned desserts, so it was nothing to write home about. To top it all, on checking the receipt later, my son found he had been charged £15 for a bottle of Pinot Grigio we never ordered! We left The Alyn at 7pm!!! That was how long it took to endure this disaster of a meal. Overall it was the most appalling, disappointing meal out we've had as a family, since pre lock-down. We will never set foot in The Alyn again, such as a shame as it has a lovely setting by the river but the management have let the place down completely.

We both thoroughly enjoyed our meal at The Alyn last night. The sea bass and seafood tagliatelle were both delicious, as were the Eaton mess and cheesecake for dessert. All washed down with a lovely bottle of New Zealand Sauvignon. Thank you to Bev, Griff and the girls for great service too, we look forward to seeing you again soon.

We visited the pub for Father’s day and a Birthday meal. Upon arrival the pub was not too busy, we had booked in advance. Maisie took us to our table and had made the effort to seat 2 families together (appreciated), in fact Maisie was polite and pleasant whilst we were there. A set menu for 2 or 3 courses was in place, offerings were ok, different variety of choices and reasonably priced (we know why...read on). Food and drinks ordered, so far so good. When the food started to arrive, this is what went downhill. Pâté starters were terrible, in fact the restaurant should be ashamed to call it a starter, should be more like nibbles. Some other starters ok though. Main meals arrived in dribs and drabs after waiting the best part of 50 minutes. We had to ask one of the other servers where it was and was told it was just being plated. Incorrect, if it was just being plated, it should arrive hot. It arrived cold. Some mains went back for what we though would be plated again fresh, but it was just reheated. Also the children’s meals that were mainly Pasta and Chicken Goujons were inconsistent. The Pasta looked like it had come out of a tin, or had been watered down. The Chicken Goujons actually looked really nice, it was like comparing Apples and Oranges. We complained to the acting manager Beverley who at first was very apologetic and advised would knock something off the bill. Beverley never returned to check the food was ok after complaining to her and neither was there any further interaction with her until paying for the bill. We finished the food, (reluctantly) paid and left. Upon checking the receipt at home, we noticed that a costly bottle of Pinot had been charged, none of us had a bottle and so had to call up and ask for a refund which couldn’t be refunded over the phone and had to be at my inconvenience of coming in when in the local vicinity. When getting the refund, it was dealt with by a male manager. He did not engage in any conversation and was completely nonchalant when explaining the reason for the refund (how rude). A real disappointing experience from a place that was previously better standard and also a place I have referenced in a older review. Not sure if it is under new owners or management but I will not be visiting again! My advice would be to always get your receipt and check it before paying! In addition, if you use AMEX, AMEX often do offers to ‘Shop Small’ which was currently on at the time of us dining. Whilst The Alyn had ‘Shop Small’ sticker in the door, they are not actually enrolled in this offer, so a form of false advertising!

Recently had lunch & I must say it was nothing but a huge disappointment. My steak burger was dry. No one came to check if our meals were ok. I had to go to the bar to ask for another drink & if someone could clear our table. When waitress came to clear our table I mentioned how dry my burger was & the service was terribly poor; she didn’t say much. No apology was given therefore I seriously doubt it if we will visit again. It’s real shame actually as we used to love having food there before the lockdown. That place needs serious improvement!

Visited here on Friday, food was gorgeous, litter longer wait time than normal but we were pre-warned about this before we sat down, service was great very attentive staff. Highly recommend

We visited the pub for a meal whilst in the area, we managed to book on the same day. The staff were all very friendly and attentive. All our meals were delicious and very well presented! Would recommend
