We keep going back. Always excellent service, hot food and very tasty. Very good value for money. Well worth a visit.

Just had a delivery, wow it was amazing! 😋 No place can beat this for fish and chips! So Tasty! Good pricing too!

Each twice yearly visit up north from Brighton our 1st stop even when it was don b I found it when on contract work in 1977 just as good then. Let’s end this lock down

Never again. The fish was dried out and hard round the outside and it seemed they had bulked up the fish with hard batter. The staff are so slow and nobody answers the phone. We ordered fish and chips to be delivered a few weeks ago and it was 45 minutes late and was disgusting. They have no manners as there was no apology or anything said about it being late or that it went in the bin.

We were staying at Hartlepool for a few days and went to Seaton Carew for a walk. Spotted this restaurant with a long queue. The nearby chippy was dead.We had a large fish butty each and a portion of chips and a curry sauce to share. They were massive portions and the total cost was only £12 ish. The bread roll was a proper bakery sub roll. The cod was a huge one, with perfectly cooked batter. The chips and curry were so nice. We couldn't eat it all.It was so good, we went back again a few days later. This time we had small fish butties, chips and curry sauce to share. The bread rolls were barm type rolls, just as nice as the others, and there were chunky cod goujons inside. Truly amazing and good value.Can't wait to go to Hartlepool again.

Came here today for our long awaited fish & chips 🤪 delicious, great portions & fab taste, we ate the lot 😉 cannot wait to be back again, hope it’s not too long 👍

Called for fish +chips cued for 45minutes when got meal fish was very dry as didn't enjoy the food would not recommend it to anyone

Phoned ahead for gluten free fish and chips before making the 40 mile trip, paid on the the phone and was met at the back door with our order, perfect service and super food! Can't thank the almoghty Cod enough especially in these most difficult times.

Passing through Seaton Carew on a cold foggy morning we decided on Fish and Chips. “ Great Decision” Service was friendly Social Distancing was good (in/out doors). Fish and chips were Fantastic Crispy Batter White chunky fish Tasty chips Highly Recommend

The Almighty Cod lived up to expectations. The fish was crispy, fresh & really tasty, the chips were also delicious. Will definitely visit again next time in Hartlepool.

We stopped here to grab fish and chips amidst desperately trying to find Teesmouth Nature Reserve. A short, socially distanced, wait outside and we were served promptly and cheerfully with the most delicious cod and chips. Absolutely fab and massive portions which I couldn't finish (took the rest of the fish home for the cats). Highly recommend. One suggestion I would make is to have some sachets of salt to take away as I like to salt the layers of my chips rather than just a vague light sprinkling on the top layer, which is why I didn't eat many of my chips.

This fish and chip takeaway is still great value for money. And delivery service had it at our doorstep at exactly the pre ordered time.

Having not visited due to the lockdown we decided it was Fish and Chip time!As usual the wait outside was worth it. Large portions cooked perfectly served by pleasant staff. Fish, Chips and Mushy peas. Certainly hit the spot.Why did we wait so long?

This fish & chip shop used to be my favourite. My regular visits to Seaton Carew always included a visit to the Almighty Cod but after my recent takeaway visit I might try somewhere else in future. Early March , but Seaton was still busy but no queue at the Almighty Cod? I can see why; it seems to be run by a bunch of over excited teenagers. My small sausage chips & burger in a bun was awful. Chips were small and not very nice, the sausage totally tasteless and as for the burger in a bun! Words fail me. What a total disappointment. Will try the place across the road next visit.

This is a regular stop for us, and has been for years now. The quality of the food is excellent. The staff in the shop are very friendly and helpful. There are several other fish and chip shops to choose from, but none as good as The Almighty Cod.

Chat and stand. Fish and chips cooked fresh. Proper batter and worth the wait so enjoy the banter and sit on the front to enjoy.

Freshly cooked, tasty food! The queue was large, but it was totally worth the wait. The half lot and kids meals were very good value for money.

Me and parter was going around seaton as not from the area and through we give this a try and we wasn’t let down Food was beautiful and fresh money was reasonable and affordable and service from the staff very attentive and effective and very friendly next time we down will be back

Cold, wet and blowing a gale outdoors we decided to walk the short distance from our hotel to collect fish n chips for our tea. Had a ten minute wait as they were waiting for fish to be fried ( no half lots available so we shared a generous portion of fish n chips with a corned beef Pattie) and got blown back along the sea front - worth it though as food was delicious, batter was thin, beautifuly crisp and not too greasy. Fish was lovely as was the Pattie and chips. Would definitely recommend , really enjoyed it

We went for lunch and were not disappointed. Nice fish and chips. The only downside is that every one else knows its good so you always seem to have to wait for a table.

By far the best fish and chips around / always get food from here and use the restaurant when in seaton - takeaway last night and the whole family enjoyed it

We recently had takeaway from here as my dad wanted a fish and chip night with family for his 60th birthday. My sister is coeliac, and was over the moon she could join in as they do an amazing gluten free batter. We rang up to place the order and went to collect within 20mins. Absolutely perfect. Would highly recommend. The customer service was brilliant and very professional answering queries beforehand.will definitely be returning.

I love the Almighty Cod. Not been a whole like. Must be due a visit soon for a small fish and chip supper.

Food here generally is great, I'm not overly impressed with the Mushy Peas, seem a bit "Canned", I cook my own mushies from the dried peas, so consider myself something of an expert. Fish are a good size, chips aren't "Bitty", well cooked and crisp. There's seating outside for a good day, but as I'm local, I never use it. Most visitors walk around and eat from the bag, but beware the seagulls!

Takeaway queue outside is because the service is so slow. The lad had forgotten to put the chips in meaning a 25 minute wait, customers were turning away in droves, I had paid so had to wait. Try Young’s over the road

Think its amazing that they offer a gluten free batter for the fish for those who are celic. It was delicious aswell.

The food in the takeaway is great when you can get served and you are not waiting 10 minutes for chips and they have not sold out of stock 3 hours before closing

Used to be my number 1 fish shop but the last couple of times we were giving a half lot cut in half hardly no fish and burnt

The large queue outside show how popular this fish and chip shop really is. Service can be slow with so many different orders but the fish and chips we bought from the shop not restaurant were tasty and hot. However the sight of some of the restaurant servers taking chips off plates and dipping in the sauces on plates before taking to the restaurant was not the best message to send out to customers. Not classy or hygienic.

I went yesterday and waited for what seemed an eternity to be served for food and a queue out of the door.

We visited the Almighty card after a walk on the beach at Seaton Carew in November. Whilst the small seated restaurant area was quite busy, we managed to get a table immediately and were served with excellent fish and chips very quickly. The surroundings were ideal and the staff were friendly and helpful. I would have no hesitation in recommending here for some fish and chips, and certainly to visit the restaurant, if you can get a seat!

first time at this fish shop went on 7november for birthday me and my wife and best fish and chips ever tasted first class service very very clean and not two evpensive fish and chips peas and curry bread and butter and a pot of tea for two was under 17pounds will be calling again

After reading lots of reviews on TA we decided to give this a try for our last night meal, before heading home the next day.

I've actually been back a couple of times recently, once with an overseas visitor and once with the family.

Nice white fish, good crispy batter, lovely chip s, friendly service, always busy. If I cycle there I get a half lot, which is just right for cycling back

revisited this restaurant the problem is its close enough to go too often lol. Fantastic fish & chips, service was slow due to staff shortages & new waiters but well worth the wait & better than Whitby.

I am writing this as I am stood in the que I have plenty of time the service is shocking .. the que is huge not because it’s popular it’s because they are painfully slow .. the local traffic warden however doesn’t have to wait he walks straight in and gets served. The food is good but sort out the shocking service

The best fish and chips in Seaton Carew bar none. I've been going to this shop for over 50 years and more than 4 different owners and the quality hasn't faltered.

Brilliant, do not pass this by, waited for 20 minutes to get in the door , but oh yes it was worth it ,may even have to do it all again tomorrow night, yes brilliant 😀😀😀😀

Often stop off at various places after dog walk and the almighty cod is my chosen venue at seaton carew.

I am a fish and chip lover and can honestly say that the meal served here was the best I , and I speak for all have ever tasted. Having travelled from Scotland and fearing we would be too late for a sit down meal we were so pleasantly surprised to find the restaurant open. So spotlessly clean , great service, and the best of all to come. Apart from the fish which was as its title suggests, was almighty and deliciously white and fresh with a delicious light and crispy batter, the chips were scrumptious, I’m sure they were fried in the old fashioned way in beef dripping? Anyway don’t ever change the recipe!! Five star, just wish we lived nearer! Thank you.

Fish and chips is best eaten by the seaside....one of the I've ever had. The service and staff were very friendly and helpful.

We went there for fish and chips on Saterday 10 August and we weren't disappointed as it was absolutely gorgeous we got a what was called an Almighty cod meal which was fish ,chips and I had beans with mine and my husband had mushy peas you also get bread and butter and drink of your choice included in the price.also you get 10 percent off if you are oap,s.

It's been about a year since visiting Almighty Cod and back then the cod was terrific. Today the cod appeared large but it was somewhat over inflated with batter, inside it was overcooked and dry. Chips were great as usual.

We called with our three year old Grandson. Great menu choice. Hubby and I decided on small fish and chips, peas, bread and butter choice of hot or cold drink. Grandson fish fingers, chips, beans and a drink. Well the fish fingers where amazing home made huge. All meals where very nice. First visit not last. Great value.

The last time I visited Seaton Carew 2015, I ate here and it was lovely - this time the chips were lovely but the fish was crunchier than a packet of walkers crisps - considering I queued for 20 minutes to get in, you would think the fish would be cooked fresh? - maybe I was unlucky this time but there seamed to be a lot of fish cooked already so it makes you wonder why it takes so long to get served? - my fish I would say was at least an hour old

Been going here for a long time, sometimes good sometimes mediocre, Today we got small cod and chips, both our fish was so overcooked, was like chewing rubber, my chips looked like the left over scraggy bits, we complained, the young lady serving just laught at us, hence to say we will never go there again

The best fish and chips around this area. Yes you sometimes have to queue (while the ones opposite are empty) but that tells its own story. Always found the staff to be helpful and friendly and the quality of the fish and chips is first class. Lovely fresh white fish that just melts in your mouth and you always get a decent sized portion. Visit once a fortnight or so and have never been disappointed. Never tried the restaurant as prefer to sit on the sea front to eat.

my son lives nearby and when i visit from scotland, one of the highlights is coming here for the best fish and chips i have ever eaten. also it is very cheap and huge portions.sometimes can be very busy but well worth the wait ,

Stood in queue out side as normal reached in side and we told we waiting for fish this happened 3 times noticed a family in front waiting for their order on reaching the till was told we waiting for fish again

Says it is open till 10 pm.... I am here at 8.50 and it's all closed up. Would think that it would at least stay open till advertised hours

I always make a point of visiting The Almighty Cod when I am in Hartlepool and I highly recommended a visit. Eat in or eat out and you won't be disappointed at the portions that you get. The staff are very friendly and really look after you. If you dine in the restaurant you don't have to wait long for your food. Only one gripe they bring you the tea first and I like my tea after my food but thats me so don't let me put you off. Great value for your money.

Always go to this place when visiting Seaton Carew and never disappointed. Fish is always cooked to perfection and the large cod is my favourite. Never eaten in but takeaway is always fab. Keep up the good work.

After going for a drive out we stopped off at seaton, it was around 7pm and we decided on getting fish and chips, anyone who knows seaton knows there are a few chippys within a stone's throw away. We we with the almighty cod this time, we joined the que and waited our turn. The people in front of us had a decent size order so food was being prepared for them. Then while they waited the counter assistant started to fill up salt and vinegar pots and started talking to other staff behind the fryers. She was the only 1 serving while many were in the back ground. After finally being asked what I would like(spam chips and curry) she told me there would be a further wait for the spam, it felt like a life time stood waiting. The guy behind me got served his food before me somehow. The counter assistant asked If i had asked for a spam to be put in which i replied no i haven't. Surely your job as a counter assistant is to ask me what i would like, I could see various battered items ready so assumed a spam would be one.

Several people recommended that I visit this famous chippie! I am so glad I did.

Had groupon voucher went mid afternoon to avoid queues. Food OK but had to pay extra for bread which we did 2 slices cheap white bread. Mush y peas also extra which we did not give in to. Staff out the back chatting a lot of the time.

Had fish and chips which were ok. You need to try and go on appropriate dates and times to ensure you are not waiting in large queues, we suggest not during school holidays and after 1.30pm. Do not think the whole experience was as good as previous visits. We had a Groupon voucher and you do not get bread and butter now or peas (which are shown on the photograph of the meal).

We haven't been for a while, has it changed hands? Batter quite soggy, not up to it's usual standard, hopefully just a one off, only customer in and still had to wsit for chips, it's still better than a lot of other fish and chip shops.

My husband my father and myself are regular customers but tonight i we were very disappointed had to wait nearly an hour for our order even though the restaurant and the takeaway were not very busy the food was not very warm orders were mixed up not the fault of waiting staff will be a long while before I will return

On the way back from a short trip away we decided to call into the Almighty Cod, we were all reasonably hungry as we had not eaten since breakfast and it was about 1630 hrs by the time we arrived.

Had lunch here again. We decided to go later, at 1.30 pm and were allocated a table almost immediately. We have previously had to stand outside waiting for a table to become vacant..

We visit about once a month, superb food, good friendly staff and good service. Never tried any of the othe chippies in Seaton as we are reluctant to do so in case of disappointment. Highly recommended. We're off there this evening

If you like food from a chip shop get down to Seaton and get your food. The portions are large and the cost low. A large cod and chips is around a fiver ish but by it is worth it. There are also kids menus and happy friendly staff that get through queues at breakneck speed. All food is freshly cooked so very little waiting, if any.

Visited with a Groupon plus one. Loved this place and we drive from Bishop Auckland for their fish and chips. Within the space of a week the groupon voucher was reduced to not include a side or bread and butter. Service was abrupt and got the payable order wrong. Family visited last week to be given the side and B and B.

Great fish and chips! Exactly what we wanted! Our German colleagues wanted to try the British traditional fish and chips. Although Mushy Peas did cause some laughter🤣German speakers will understand why!😳

I arrived with my family and we were asked, abruptly, to "wait outside in the rain and cold", whilst the unhappy waitress cleared a table for us.Another family waited outside with us for 5 minutes.

Waited 30 minutes in a que, peak time on a Sunday... que out the door as always... but ran out of chips! Surely this is monitored? I get that fish should be made fresh to order but when you can see the que is round the bend, you would think to put extras in to avoid unhappy customers. Over priced compared with the rest of the street. This was made out to be the go to fish and chips of the town but it didn't taste amazing to be honest.

We have always used the almighty cod takeaway and has been our favourite place for fish and chips over the years. When we arrived we were surprised to see that there was hardly any que this is a first, but we still ended up waiting 45 mins for a kiddies box, 2 large fish and a mushy peas which is a unbelievably long time time for a small order. Not once where we apologised to for our wait, so once served we couldn't wait to tuck in, but instead of having lovely fish like we normally get we opened the box to find a fish and a large amount grease after one bite of the fish it all went in the bin the grease on the fish was horrendous as a result of this bad experience we will not be returning

Service was shocking tables left dirty have used this place a lot over the years but won’t return , 40 minutes it took to get our meal! Big order out front was the excuse the staff were no where to be seen for long periods of time restaurant was just left. We have noticed over last few visits that service wasn’t so good but this beat it very disappointed

Always a que but it goes down quick as service is quick. Good portion size, meaty fish. Not greasy. Cafe is busy especially at weekends.

Nice enough place with a good size portion for a small fish and chips and price is great! Awkward for prams as quite small, but staff are nice and friendly.

I visited with my family and initially unsure about going into the restaurant as in other place the prices are normally high. I was plesantly surprised that the prices were reasonable and even happier when the food arrived and found the portion size, presentation and taste were all excelent. Would visit again.

Not to be missed if you visit Seaton Carew . The Mighty Cod is clean, friendly and the food is delicious. Be prepared to walk away feeling full in the nicest way.

Best fish and chips in the north east, however they only ever seem to have enough chips ready for 2 customers at any one time and you're constantly waiting for more chips to be cooked, buy another chip fryer!

Nice fish and chips. The gluten free batter is crispy. Definitely be coming back here again. Its only small place so be prepared to wait for a free table.

This is the best fish and chip shop in Hartlepool. Great Half Lots and resonably priced. Vey popular Take Away or eat in restuarant. Very popular in summer and queues right down the street!

So pleased we chose to eat here. When people complain about ‘service’ it’s generally because the place is worth the wait. Yes we had to queue out the door, but it wasn’t too long before we were served. They have some new staff, but there was one lady distinctly in charge who was doing a sterling job managing her customers and over seeing the trainee.
