The original pub theatre still doing what it does best

Small, theatre and it was so much fun. Cast of 3 were amazing. Serious, sometimes and so ad lib when either of them forgot their words. It was even funnier when they had to let the lighting man/ action when he didn't get the knock on the door on time, of course there wasn't a door. So so funny. I would recommend this fantastic show. Hope to see more from you all. X

Delicious food. Very hard to get a table!

Had my 60th party here last Saturday. About 65 of us showed and it was 5 star - from the continual running pizzas, to the beers to the atmosphere and also because of the staff who were outstanding. Thank you very much.

We went to our best friends' wedding here last Friday and it was the BEST day! The ceremony was held there, we had loads of food and a band in the evening. The staff were amazing, so friendly and the food was absolutely delicious. Couldn't fault any of it, it was a really special day and no one cared about the rain as we were in this fabulous place! Loved every second.

Went to comedy improv at the little theatre... a real scream

Went there for Sunday roast. By 1:30pm they had run out of beef, so had to choose from chicken or pork. Chose chicken…. Almost no flavour and dry. Will not go for that option again. The pork is way much better in flavour and crunchiness! Vegetables were ok. Expensive.

Tuesday night visit. Service was ok, but really really slow, even though it was not very busy. Food was decent enough. Real shame they don't support local producers and didn't have my favourite Bristol Gin.

We went to see a magic show with the grandchildren. It was very entertaining. The theatre itself is compact and yet comfortable, which gives a nice feeling of being involved. We carried in drinks from the bar downstairs. All of the staff were very helpful. A good afternoon out.

Great pub in a cool part of Bristol. Live music & pizzas on a Sunday evening made for a nice end to the weekend.

Found this pub by surprise, and fell in love with it! It's a proper pub pub, very good draught selection, including Bristol breweries, very nice food, great staff... the place to go really!

Quality pub. Really friendly and welcoming staff, very attentive. Pub is ready well maintained, food there is amazing. Had a roast. Prices are reasonable. They have a nice beer garden, seating is comfortable. They have it's own theatre, it's also only a few minutes walk away from Clifton train station.

5 stars for everything. Great service and delicious food. Lovely atmosphere.

We travelled from London for the weekend. The Alma was highly recommend by a friend. And it honestly was worth the visit. I would recommend to pre book. The service was amazing nothing was to much trouble. Food was out of this world. Highly recommend the pork belly roast. Was a great friendly atmosphere. Would definitely visit again when in Bristol.

Perfect pub - warm welcome and great grub. My friend and I both tucked into a superb Sunday lunch of rare roast beef, finishing off our meal with some delectable ice-cream 👍.

Always my go to pub. They have amazing and wonderful staff, a great pub quiz and a warm, positive and friendly vibe. The food is delicious and I would 100% recommend. Best pub in Bristol. 👏🤩⭐️

Went to the theatre and had a drink. Great kitch place!

Visited to watch comedian Ian Smith, due to traffic delays on M4 arrived a minute before gig. I do like standup gigs in small venues so thumbs up for Alma

Once again I shouldn't share this as it will only make this place busier - but it is deserved. Truly excellent service, food first rate and at a very reasonable price. This is a pub with not pretentions.

Great place and atmosphere. We went to see a comedian and the sound, etc were perfect but the chairs were so tight together as so small that it was VERY uncomfortable to be sat there for such a long time.

Went for a comedy night. Really good atmosphere, the bar staff were friendly, with a good choice of beers and the food was tasty too. Plus they give you 25% off the food bill if you've gone to see a show in the little theatre above the pub.

Been a couple of times recently for food. Would definitely recommend you book a table as gets busy. Had the fish special yesterday roasted Cornish cod, unfortunately my photo doesn’t do it justice- it was magnificent and wouldn’t be out of place in a fine dining establishment but would probably cost double. Staff all friendly despite the crowd and great beer selection of local Bristol Breweries.

This pub had the most lovely wholesome vibe, where everyone working seems to care about your night. Siob and Jayjay were so lovely especially as they were who I spoke too. Kindness goes a long way and this pub oozes kindness! Ps the best woofers (dogs) come here !

I am a regular at the Alma and I always get brilliant service from Florence and Travis. Travis always recommends me the perfect wine and Florence pours a great pint. The food is amazing and the atmosphere is brilliant! Would highly recommend!

Popped in to see a play in the in small theater above the pub. Got there early yo grab a pint and burger. Wonderful.

Ryan was a very helpful friendly and efficient Shame there wasn't times put on table reservations had to keep asking ,which wasn't his fault,bar staff were good too,band was a good choice,just shame over crowded

Bloomin lovely food, in a bloomin lovely place, but best of all, served up by bloomin lovely people. Landlord; you owe your team a drink after hours, as they are the best thing about The Alma Tavern.

Interesting shows lovely pub , food and service exemplary

Great atmosphere, good mix of people in there. Food was nice but portions small for what they cost. Selection of beers sufficient. There was a slight odour though, couldn't pinpoint what it was but it was a bit musty. One barman was wearing a very loose singlet vest which was a little off putting. One female staff member also seemed half a sleep. All on all ok and would go back if for the vibe only.

Really quirky venue. Service in bar was great - friendly staff. Saw Steve Williams and Steve Hall in the 'theatre'. But in reality it is just a room above the pub! Comedy was brilliant, chairs were really uncomfortable! But will definitely go again.

Wonderful little pub with some fun going on.

Came in for a solo dinner to work on my novel. Olivia looked after me. Delicious steak and chips with chimichiri sauce. I saw a few desserts go out that looked great too but I couldn’t eat any more, luckily Ryan behind the bar was able to make a great espresso Martin instead. Will definitely be back again.

Had a lovely roast here with family for a special occasion. Staff were very attentive and polite. Everyone was chuffed with their roasts and my mum said it’s the best she’s had! We’ll definitely be back 😊

Great good and superb service . The staff were so concerned we wouldn’t have time to eat and see the act we had booked , they got our food order out asap. Amazing concern for their customers . We will be back for a more leisurely visit . X

Lovely pub and well kept beer. Lots of very nice cars driving up and down looking to park - Audi's and Astons - although the electric Porsche with the fake engine noise coming from.speakers , that just made me laugh 🤣

Such an incredible independent pub! Always has a lovely atmosphere and is always busy so must be doing something right. Roasts are always incredible on Sunday

Great food, great theatre and great service, great discount

Lovely pub and really great roast dinner. We booked last minute but they managed to accommodate us at a smaller table. The service was quick, staff were super friendly and the food and wine tasted great! We had an awful dining experience somewhere else a day before so we were very grateful to be able to enjoy some good food and drink!

Big pub tucked away in Clifton. Friendly staff. Seats out back and on the street. Two real ales (Arbor and Butcombe) but no local cider as is common in most Bristol pubs. Delicious halibut with lentils and gnocchi. Great tiny little theatre to enjoy with 25% of food bill if you have tickets. The post theatre iced water was very welcome on a hot night at the show. Slight issue with the food order but they recovered well. A good spot for drinks food and theatre.

I have been coming here regularly for over a year and in a city with plenty of great pubs this is a standout. Great atmosphere; friendly staff and locals; good range of beers and drinks and food; and always plenty going on - with live music and quizzes regular parts of the calendar. As a bonus there is of course a small theatre upstairs with a constant stream of performances. The outside seating, both front and back, makes this a great warm weather destination. Even if I didn’t live nearby I would happily travel to visit the Alma. Tip - get the Black Pudding Croquettes while they are still on menu, these are perfect with a pint!

Planned a very important party to be held at the Alma. Throughout all the planning, we received spectacular support from Toby and his staff. Five of our guests stayed there for 2-3 nights and again were treated with respect and courtesy. Nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend this establishment for any occasion.

Smart theatre and venue with a decent beer selection. Nice vibe.

Went for Sunday lunch. Really good atmosphere , with arrange of ages enjoying a drink or food. Staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. Sunday lunch was a decent size and very tasty. Will definitely go bo back, but I will leave the car at home. So I can enjoy a few drinks. 👍

Always been one of my favourite pubs in Bristol, be going there since the 80s.

What an incredible find. The staff are so lovely. The food is fresh, delicious, beautifully presented and healthy portions. The wine list is easy to navigate with great wine. I have fallen for this place. So pleased we found an honest and friendly pub on our first night. If we lived here this would be our local. I wish.

I was thrilled to find a place with nice interior decor, keeping the old style, and that is not like any other (boring) 'modern' refurbished pubs. The atmosphere is nice and everyone was very friendly and welcoming. Good variety of beers. The pizza was delicious. Tried two different ones and both were excellent.

This is a great find, a pub with a difference, it feels like a local pub but has good food, a great atmosphere and theatre event's. When there's no theatre it's a great pub, good food, nice beer garden and a great atmosphere

Wonderful place. Been coming here for years. The staff are all amazing. Incredible food. Celebrated many friends' birthdays and special occasions here and Sunday Roast is simply the best. Love it. Highly recommend.

Good place to eat. High hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchen. Fresh and quality products. I sometimes work in the kitchen and I have seen everything perfect. Toby is charming. 

Great pub with tiny, intimate theatre above. Reduction on food cost if going to a show as well. Saw couple of excellent amateur plays the other night. Great night out all round.

Great theatre and superb bar with lovely food and service definitely go again

One of my spiritual homes having worked and lived there in the past. Left because it lost its mojo. Has had it back for a number of years now. Lovely to see.

We had a lovely time here, stopped in for a pint and some dinner. The food was super tasty, and the beer was good. The staff though, they were really the best! Friendly and chatty, really helpful and just made the place really welcoming. Lots of dogs around too, which made our pup feel very at ease. Next time we'll stop for a show!

Tiny theatre, saw a great play about Oscar Wilde from his wife's perspective. Beer and vibe in the pub is good too.

Allow time for parking ….can be tricky nearby. It was a little unclear how to get upstairs to the little theatre (there’s someone at a table taking numbers). Shortly before the performance a man comes and says it’s time. Stairs to climb. The performance’Caitlin’ was wonderful and we will definitely be back !

Great local pub - clean and tity. Much bigger inside that you might expect. Great for large groups to meet up at the back but more cosey at the front.

This pub is just fantastic. Have been going here for years and it never fails. Been twice to eat in the past week and the food is faultless, the staff are brilliant and so helpful, polite and welcoming. This exactly how a pub should be - great drinks, fantastic atmosphere, top food and so so hospitable. Even has a theatre...! Can't recommend this pub more.

Popped in for a Sunday lunch after seeing a client nearby. Pub was busy and I hadnt booked however friendly staff squeezed me in and I am so glad they did! Very nice roast chicken dinner! Big portion and great flavour, I will definitely be back!

Hadn't been to the Alma for years but am pleased to say it's still fantastic and does a mean Sunday roast!

We held our wedding at The Alma Tavern & Theatre the weekend before Christmas. It is a perfect venue, with attentive, accommodating and wonderful staff and the food was superb! Thank you for making our special day so memorable and relaxed.
