We booked the Alma Tavern for our company Christmas party, for 21 people. It was by far the best food and venue we've held our party at in the last few years. Great tasting food and generous portions - it was clear the chef and kitchen put lots of thought and effort into the dishes which went beyond the usual Christmas fare you get in lots of places, where it's just about bums on seats. The staff were super-helpful too, both in getting our event booked and organised and were brilliant on the night too - friendly, happy and helpful. It's was a nice touch that the team made the effort to call our names when serving the dishes. We'll definitely be back for more events in the future!

Went here due to the Google maps entry saying the pub was wheelchair accessible and that there were accessible toilets. Unfortunately the toilets aren’t accessible, the cubicles all have level access, but they are standard height with no grab rails. The cubbies are larger than many stars toilets but not large enough for a mobility vehicle of any type. Usually this would have led to a bad review, BUT the response is what gives them 5 stars. Within minutes of me flagging the issue and saying frustratedly to a member of staff “please don’t advertise accessible toilets when they aren’t accessible” a manager came to speak to me, asked where I’d found the accessible information, promised to get it fixed asap, apologised, and when I suggested grab rails would help, said that they would get installed asap (within days). I felt so seen and valued, this isn’t the usual experience for a disabled person. Instead of leaving after 1 drink, I stayed for many with my friends and had a wonderful night out. Thank you to the team at the Alma you are an example to everyone

Had a great time doing the dine and show deal, the food had flavours and looked good buts needs a little work, my fish burger wasn't drained well and I was left with a mouthful of oil also the slaw was browning a bit which is always off putting (coat your apple in lemon juice, i think thats whats it was) my sisters chicken katsu burger was good but she wasn't getting much of the katsu flavours (she also couldn't eat the slaw) the fish and chip my mother had was huge and perhaps too big especially when you are about to watch a show and that is something I've never said before in a meal review! The service however was fantastic, more than fantastic very friendly and welcoming! There was a nice little dog scuttling round and everyone seemed in good spirits. The theatre itself was one of the most uncomfortable experiences of my life, it was a great show but the lack of air flow was stifling and actually my mother had to get up and sit at the back because of this. The leg room situation was also insane and because the large man in front of us decided to put his arm round his misses we became more than an uncomfortable ménage à trois. The second act i sat on the stairs. Now I am tall, but my sister and mum are short and even they feel the pain. However despite the shortcomings and torturous conditions it was still an enjoyable evening and a lovely little place and I would probably do it again for the right show, but I dread to think what the summer is like.

A large neighbourhood boozer in the leafy backstreets of Clifton. A wide range of beer and wine is available. I haven’t tried the food. The theatre upstairs is quite small which means everyone is close to the action! It has a huge range of shows and a generally high standard.

The alma tavern gave us the most wonderful wedding day we could have imagined. Becca helped us plan the hole day and was up for all our unusual requests. Every member of staff was walm, friendly and fun. Tim, the chef, was as excited as us about pineapple hedgehog canapés. The food was absolutely Phenomenal, I still dream about the churros, and the truffle mac and cheese. our day ran so smoothly we had no stresses at all. we can't thank them enough for giving us the perfect day.

I have been coming here regularly for over a year and in a city with plenty of great pubs this is a standout. Great atmosphere; friendly staff and locals; good range of beers and drinks and food; and always plenty going on - with live music and quizzes regular parts of the calendar. As a bonus there is of course a small theatre upstairs with a constant stream of performances. The outside seating, both front and back, makes this a great warm weather destination. Even if I didn’t live nearby I would happily travel to visit the Alma. Tip - get the Black Pudding Croquettes while they are still on menu, these are perfect with a pint!
