Wow what a find!! We were visiting the area and found this gem of a place! Lovely people, great service, very accommodating for my family including our dog (dogs allowed in bar but not restaurant). We have been out for many Sunday roast dinners, but this was one of the best we’ve had! Beautiful food, proper roasties, I had a mix of all meats on offer. It came with lovely swede and carrots, cauliflower cheese, parsnips, and lots of other veg, a big jug of gravy, all the condiments, it really was very good! Highly recommended 5*!! Sorry no pics, the food was just too tasty!! 😃🙏

My husband and I randomly stopped by here today and were really impressed! The staff were really friendly and the Sunday Roast was just what we were looking for! A proper home cooked meal (the roast potatoes are the best I’ve had in a while!) Other half had gammon and I had chicken both cooked nicely, the vegetables and cauliflower cheese were also really nice and I liked how they didn’t pile the plate, they bring all the extras in separate dishes so you can help yourself! The Eton Mess dessert was also delicious, I’m not normally a pudding person but we saw another table having desserts and were impressed! Again you could see it was home made and not thrown from the freezer to plate like a lot of places! This is a proper British pub like the old days, not a pretentious “gastro pub” which there are a lot of now and I say this as a younger person, it really reminded me of the places I used to go with mum and dad when I was 10! Would highly recommend and would definitely return 😊

This is an absolutely fantastic pub with the most amazing atmosphere! Landlord and landlady are a such an inviting couple who make you feel so welcome! Their Sunday roast is definitely worth making a trip for, the meat was perfectly cooked and I shall definitely come again! If you like a friendly pub atmosphere with good food this is the place to definitely make a detour for! I will continue to go out of my way to make an appearance at this lovely place! Apparently they've only been here 8 months but it feels like they've been here forever and have done such a good job with the place! Well done guys keep up the good work!

On 30th July I held my 21st birthday party here from 3-late with a mix of friends and family attending. The staff at The Alma were amazing! The food they put on was so lovely and the landlady even checked in with me before to see what sort of food we were after. A few members of my family are Soeliac (gluten free) and they even provided food suited to their needs which is really rare in a small pub and was greatly appreciated!! We sat outside all day and night and enjoyed loads of lovely cocktails in the sunshine! It was such an amazing day and made even more lovely by the friendly and helpful staff, highly recommended! Can't thank you enough for helping to make my birthday so special! Thank you thank you thank you xxxx

Made to feel welcome & at home as soon as you walk through the door, great friendly atmosphere from all of the 'locals'. Food is fantastic at a very reasonable price. Sharon, the Landlady, caters for parties, wakes, etc at silly cheap prices & puts on a wonderful spread. As a real ale drinker, I can say, there's not a better pint served in the area. Will most certainly be back at the earliest opportunity!!!!

We had lunch at the Alma today, it was very quiet with only 4 other customers in the bar and they were getting the restaurant ready for a function this evening. However we were greeted warmly, given the menu which was fine, then the lady who does the cooking came out, Christine and said there was also omelettes available with any ingredients we fancied. I had a 3 egg omelette with ham and cheese, this came with a salad and chips. There was loads of ham and cheese and I have to say this was the best omelette I have ever tasted it was delicious. I think the price was £7.85 wonderful.

I originally reviewed the Alma in May 2013 (still on here) just after the present owners took over, and gave it 5 stars as all the signs were promising. Tim and Sharon were enthusiastic and friendly, and they had found a chef called Sue who was providing great food at reasonable prices.Unfortunately, things have changed. The chef left, and the couple of times we have eaten there since then, the food has been mediocre at best (and on one occasion, desperately poor.) But the worst change has been in the atmosphere. My brother and I used to drink there regularly once-a-week. But since we dared to have a drink in the 'opposition' down the road (because they came back one night in a miserable mood and closed the pub early, despite knowing my other brother had driven 70 miles to come over and join us that night) we no longer seem to be welcome. On the odd occasion I have been there with my wife, the reception has been frosty, and recently when my brother and I thought 'lets give it another go' we were completely blanked (despite the fact that both the landlords were at the bar and one of the regulars we were drinking with apparently encouraged Sharon to say hello.) Both of them seem to give off the vibe now that they don't really want to be there. If I am being honest, its not a bad pub. It has gone very much back to the locals and there are usually a bunch of friendly people in there. If this was my 1st review, it would get 3 stars. But it already has 5 stars from me which I no longer feel is right, so this is to balance it up a little bit. If the landlords learn that a pub, like any other business, has to earn the loyalty of its customers, rather than demand it, then perhaps they can still do well.

Our first visit today with family who live in the area. We were not disappointed. We wanted a lunch in a friendly pub and that was what we got. We found the landlord welcoming and the locals at the bar all spoke to us. Our food arrived swiftly and we sat outside in the pleasant garden area enjoying the good weather. The food was tasty and beautifully presented. Much better quality than you usually get in a pub too. We were made to feel valued by the staff and will be returning next time we are in the area. Had a surprise 50th birthday party in here this week and can honestly say that a better venue would be impossible to find. Hosts Tim and Sharon Worked tirelessly with my wife to ensure that everyone had a thoroughly fantastic evening .Chef David surpassed even his own usual excellence to provide beautiful food that was enjoyed by all . Bar service was as usual faultless throughout the entire evening. 5 stars is not really enough and if it were possible I would give more. This really is a great venue for all occasions so if you've got a birthday, christening, etc. coming up or even just a quiet drink with friends in a relaxed friendly atmosphere you would do well consider the Alma as a venue. Don't just take my word for it go and have a look. You will not be disappointed. Thank you again Tim & Sharon for all your hard work. Russ

The Alma is as inviting on the inside as it is attractive on the outside. Basics first. The Alma is easy to find on the B3005 with a good sized car park. Walking from the car park is a clean and tidy outside area with wooden seating and tables undercover from the elements. Inside the Alma has a lovely welcoming feel and because it is nice and compact makes you feel right at home with wines by the bottle at very reasonable prices along with a choice of well-kept ales and a wide choice of lagers from Fosters to Peroni and San Miguel. The menu choice is as you would expect but what you don't expect is the quality of the food - that clearly has needed more than the ability to press a microwave button. Really appreciated and the omlettes are outstanding!

When I saw this pub had 4 stars I could not believe my eyes! Under the previous owners this pub served gorgeous food and the atmosphere was lovely. Sadly, the new owners seem to have gone 10 steps back. Me and my daughter used to love coming here for dinner, and the restaurant area used to be filled with diners. Not anymore. The food itself is just not worth the money and having listened to the landlady criticise other customers, it does not make for a comfortable atmosphere. Won't be back. Also, don't be fooled by the 5 star reviews below. Most seem to come from people who sign up to Trip Adviser, make 1 review on this pub and then never use the site again. Suspicious!

I would endorse the recent great reviews on here. Whenever a pub changes hands, there is a bit of uncertainty over what the new owners are going to be like, but Sharon and Tim have been friendly, welcoming and enthusiastic from the start. Had a couple of meals there and they have been excellent - pub grub but well delivered and reasonably priced. Thanks also to Sue the chef for listening to us last night and offering to split the order up to accommodate our needs - it's the little things like that which make all the difference. Being a lager drinker I can't vouch directly for the beer, but the comments from ale drinking friends have all so far been absolutely positive. For those of you who have not been in the Alma since the previous landlords Dan and James took over a couple of years ago, they turned the place around and made it into a great pub. It's early days but the signs are that Sharon and Tim will carry that on, so I would say give it another try!

Like others we were obviously concerned that the terrificly high standards set by Dan and James might fall with new owners in place. First impressions are that everything is just tickety boo. Food and drink still excellent, standards very high and new couple Sharon and Tim are very enthusiastic and welcoming. New real ale (Old Golden Hen) was as good as I've had in the Alma and they coped with our fussy eater orders brilliantly. Of course its pub food, not haute cuisine - but thats what you want from a pub?Its early days but if you were worried because the pub had changed hands then worry no more. A recent change of Landlord as Dan and James have taken refuge in their other pub in Windsor, Sharon and her husband have been at the helm for a couple of weeks. First impressions of their takeover are excellent, with a move to build on what Dan and James had laid the foundations for. Still well supported by many of the regular locals, let’s hope the good work continues and pulls in some more drinkers. We had a party of 8 for a works leaving meal booked for a Thursday evening and were spoilt for choice of what to have from a very wide range of menus. Not one complaint from a normally fussy bunch of eaters, a good choice of starters, the steaks were perfect, portions increased in size, and only empty plates left. The beer and wines selection remain the same. The added bonus of being dog friendly means we can just pop in for a pint on returning from a walk at Caesar’s Camp. Looking forward to my next pint already.

We came in a group of friends for an afternoon tea. Upon booking we were not given the choice of booking either a sweet or savoury afternoon tea. A call was made (but on a Sunday evening at 7pm) the night before to ask our preference. We missed the call and no message was left to call back. When coming in we were told only sweet had been made, despite both being printed on the menu making it seem as if we had a choice. Food was average and scones were overcooked. Service was very abrupt, when we stated that the water for the tea was lukewarm the waitress decided to argue back! Most unusual! Service should be optional without being made to feel awkward for an average experience. It is a shame because the decoration and building is nice. Let down by poor management.
