I eat here often now as the pub grub is so incredible. Great range on the menu, wonderful roasts. Really tasty and great quality. Highly recommend!

We stayed at the Popes for two nights when we attended an event locally. 16 of us had dinner here both nights when the restaurant was absolutely heaving. Between us we had every dish on the menu and all of it was excellent. The staff were incredibly busy but they were polite, helpful and hardworking. I have to single out Jodie though, for special praise. Unparalleled excellence in service and customer care, always with a huge smile, thank you Jodie.

Food was a very high quality as was the service. Great friendly staff and good drinks and cocktails. Will definitely be back again.

Sunday roast is lovely here, would definitely come back. The roast dinner was delicious. 4 stars as kids meal (Mac and cheese) was really not worth the £9 and would not get again. Expected long wait and server was a bit awkward but overall okay.

I saw a previous review about feeling unwanted in a place and that’s exactly how we felt dining here as well. My mother wanted to try the place and so I took her here only to be met with disappointment. To paint a picture, we walk in the restaurant and waited to be seated. There were 2 people on the bar and the customers had already been served, the boy was polishing glasses and the other girl, who knows what she was doing. There was also another male server clearing a table, all 3, pretended we didn’t exist. We may not have been dressed like we were ought to meet the King but honestly, in this day and age to still have this kind of judgement from the staff to a paying customer is laughable. Realising, we weren’t going to be seated. I asked the staff on the bar if we can sit anywhere and she said yes. We sat ourselves down and I still had to ask for menus myself! I noticed how the rest of the people who walk in were treated and it was completely different to us. When the food came, it was presented well. However it was mediocre for the price. Perhaps our judgement and tastebud has been soured from the initial experience. Customers come in to not only eat the food but to enjoy the ambiance and the service. One thing I’ll say though is Talulah, our server, was pleasant which salvaged the number of stars a little bit but the rest was just inadequate and incompetent. I’m just glad they’re smart enough not to charge us service for they know themselves how absurd their service was. Definitely not coming back. I just felt sorry for my mum who was really eager to try this place out.

I've stayed here multiple times. Only two nights this time and while breakfast is usually a treat I didn't have breakfast this time. Its a good English pub and I'll be back.

Tried Sunday roast, chicken was cooked beautifully but the rest of the trimmings spoiled the dish. 2 soggy potatoes, few cold hispi Cabbage leaves, mushy carrots and the worst gravy I've ever tasted 😫 we ordered more Cabbage and chips because we were still hungry. Cabbage was very tiny portion and chios never arrived. We ordered lemon posset but really it was just whipped cream with the hint of lemon. Disappointed 😞 We also had our retriever with us and nobody even offered to bring some water for him.

Roast food very good. Good portions but need to serve on larger plates as hard to navigate through. Our group really enjoyed it all.

I have never felt unwanted in any place in London before coming here. My child is attending a nearby course, so I wait for him at this location for over an hour on a couple of occasions. The staff were rude and displayed racist behavior. Additionally, I was overcharged and compelled to pay a service charge for the food and drinks, despite having to carry them around the restaurant myself. The staff, particularly the older man who served me, made it abundantly clear that I was unwelcome there!

We went to at the Alexander Pope for a family meal with grandparents, parents and children and were very pleased we did. The food & service was great & the hotel is very comfortable & well situated. close the the river. The steak was as very well cooked and the kids cleared their plats too. Would certainly recommend and return.

We do like the Pope my husband and his friends to like to go for a drink there. First time for dinner before the rugby with a group of friends. The restaurant was really bustling, the atmosphere was very friendly. Food and staff were fabulous, also a brilliant veggie choices. I would highly recommend to go.

After a fantastic Christmas dinner there last year, we were incredibly disappointed this year. The roast was luke warm deli meat and undercooked vegetables. The servers were all very polite and friendly but there seemed to be no communication between them as drinks and the bill had to be requested several times.

Lovely relaxed lunch here. Great menu. I'm not a salt person and some of the food was a bit salty for me. But otherwise was really good. Really nice selection of non alcoholic drinks as well.

Hosted my birthday here in the Atrium and what a lovely setting for a cold winters day! The staff were super accommodating, the food delicious and we all had a great time. Child and dog friendly this lovely place also offers accommodation and parking - highly recommend

We were visiting nearby Strawberry Hill House and so came here for lunch. My wife had fish and chips which she said were very good and I had the burger and fries which were ok rather than great.

The food was amazing, definitely the chefs did a great job. Duck was very tender, my friends had fish which was full of flavor, creamy pasta and all presentations were amazing. First dinner meeting of our Rotary Club at this venue. 15 diners had a choice of two courses from the menu. The food was uniformly delicious and well prepared. The service was first class, led by the manager. I am surprised at the current general Trip Adisor rating which I would have expected to be at least 4. The rooms are attractive with excellent bathrooms. I look forward to many more meetings, dinners and nights at this venue.

We all came for Sunday roast and it was simply delicious. Fantastic sharing options for couples or groups of friends. Some of the best gravy and roastys in London. This pub is a must visit. You’ll be hard pushed to find a better roast in London. Definitely coming back. See you guys soon!

Disappointing food service from a Young’s pub which are normally quite reliable. We had a 12 o’clock sitting for a Sunday dinner so were virtually the first people there - only to be told when we ordered there was no roast beef and only one of the prime rib sharing joints available. How does a pub not stock roast beef for a Sunday lunchtime? We should also have been told that up front rather than after we had time to read the menu and make our choices. The prime rib was then over cooked (medium beef should not be grey). The staff were polite but not very efficient and made multiple mistakes taking our orders. The positives - the pork and the chicken were good, the veg accompaniments for the prime rib were excellent and good portion sizes.

I went for Sunday lunch yesterday, on my way to work, and service was cordial and swift as always - I've had Sunday lunch there many times, but haven't had the chance for a few months. I ordered everything at the bar, so service doesn't really come in to play in my review. As a bar/restaurant manager, waiter, barman, and chef, I want to just give a review on the lunch itself. The staff did everything right by me. However, the price has really rocketed since the last time I was there, and the portions are much smaller - I feel that a Sunday lunch should be a real wow factor - a treat, but the portion I received was like week-day pub dinner than a Sunday feast. Three thin slices of beef, and two roast potatoes with the trimmings... Although the potatoes were great for a pub lunch. Served on a really annoyingly small trendy plate that didn't allow me to move food around again reduced the wow factor - when the food arrived, I almost asked where the rest of it was. It was all good, but a Sunday meal, not a Sunday treat. Plus sides - the Sussex nearby is really good & a little cheaper, but there's limited tables inside, and there's kids running riot everywhere. The Alexander is always busy, but not packed. Again, food was a decent quality, but nothing to rave about, portions were a little disappointing. And over-priced. And those plates are really annoying. It was decent food. And I won't say anything bad about the experience that the staff gave me, or any worries about quality or hygiene, but it was underwhelming for the price, and not the Sunday feast that I wanted. I eat one meal a day, and have done for about 14 years, because I work in hospitality, and I didn't have that Sunday full-belly feeling like I should have had. I think I'll be looking around for somewhere different in future. But... Try it yourself. The food was good. It has always been good here when I've eaten here, but smaller portions, bigger prices, annoying plates.

A family favourite, as my sister had her wedding meal at the Alexander Pope 8 years ago. The Sunday roast was great though we struggled with the heaped small sized plate. The pork crackling was beautifully done and the meat succulent. A good selection of vegetables accompany the meal. Lovely The staff were, as always, friendly and helpful.

Me and my wife came for dinner after recommendations from friends, must I say it did not disappoint our waiter Alfie was absolutely amazing so friendly and professional all other staff great too. Decided to book for Sunday family lunch after previously visiting for a quick after-walk drink. We all had a thoroughly enjoyable lunch having been seated in the "atrium". The staff were young and slightly inexperienced but they were all very helpful and attentive and did a sterling job. Most of us opted for the Sunday Roast which was enjoyable and served promptly. Bill including desserts and a couple of bottles of wine was reasonable and we all left completely satisfied. The Alexander Pope has a nice atmosphere and we would happily return.

Food excellent... could be supplemented with extras to promote customer experience (for example a little salad with camembert sharing platter or a pot of chutney). Service is very good and lots of internal space... very suitable for wheel chair users or physically impaired. External space would not suit less abled customers. 10 - 15 minutes from twickenham train station and accessible by bus with lots of parking after mid day. The car park is terribly tight but there is residential parking. I would recommend.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The Alexander Pope is in a beautiful location - just opposite a delightful park by the river. The staff were very helpful and attentive, (Talullah, in the evening, is worth mentioning as she was really sweet and totally on top of her game, despite the fact that the restaurant was full of families with young children due to a private function), and the food was really excellent. We had both supper and breakfast here, and both were exceptional. The breakfast menu was perfect - I had Eggs Floerntine and my partner had the Full English. Both were delicious, (and we can generally be a bit fussy when it comes to breafast...) Our room was also of an excepetional standard. The beds were super comfortable and the walk in shower was such a treat. Coffee, tea, full mini bar, biscuits - even Pringles! All were available as well as a comprehensive room service menu. We will be back....

I was hoping to write a review of dinner at the Alexander Pope. The website says that dinner is served until 9.30 PM so my wife and I arrived at 8.55 PM yesterday only to be told that the kitchen closes at 8.45. So either the website is wrong or the kitchen staff skived off early. Either way it's disappointing so no review of the food but a one star rating nevertheless.

We booked six rooms in total for a family wedding. From the start when booking the hotel the emails were not very personal and not very accommodating. Trying to telephone them to ask questions was very stressful as they took ages or simply would not answer. The rooms were okay, water damaged marks in the bathrooms, in the morning we discovered a badly stained duvet that we regretted we had not noticed earlier. Two of the rooms were very dark and luckily we did not have to spend too much time in them. The service was poor it took two ladies 20 minutes to check into two rooms. Breakfast service was not any better served wrong orders, things forgotten and served overcooked food. We did not complain at the time of checking out as we just wanted to get home but would not recommend to a friend.

Travelled as a couple in August 2023 for my birthday and arrived from Kent by train, the hotel is about a 10 minute walk from Strawberry Hill Station. On arrival, the guy on the reception desk gave us all the information we needed but did seem a bit done for the day.. Room was lovely, we booked a double bed and although it was huge, it was evident that they had pushed two beds together as you could identify the gap in the middle. Room and en-suite bathroom were clean with plenty of fresh towels, toiletries and wardrobe space. There was a snack bar and stocked mini fridge where you have the option to pay for anything you take, although the free shortbread and 4x coffee pods for the nespresso machine were a nice touch. We ordered drinks to the room which took a while to come and were quite expensive but I think probably just London prices, it was nice to have the option of room service. We didn't eat in the hotel so can't comment on the food but the menu did look lovely. Bonus 11am checkout so you're not in a rush too. Would stay again if in the Twickenham area.

Popped in for a pre-match bite with some friends. The restaurant was reasonably full but certainly nothing approaching capacity. We all ordered two courses and drinks. After 25 mins my drink was nowhere to be seen, despite everyone else at my table already having had theirs served. I checked on the order with the waitress and was told that the bar was busy and that it was on its way. Eventually I went to the bar and ordered and paid for another beer myself. By the time our bill arrived, I still hadn't been served my drink BUT unsurprisingly it appeared on our bill nonetheless. As far as the rest of the meal is concerned - my burger was overcooked and my brownie tasted like a mixture of compacted sawdust and cocoa. Hands down one of the most atrocious dining experiences in 22 years of living and working in London.

Absolutely fantastic good, great portion sizes. The service was extremely slow, not that it bothered us too much, but considering that it was a Sunday, you’d think that service would have been quicker.

We have very recently celebrated our wedding in the Alexander Pope and it was just fantastic from start to finish. The food was so good, we had antipasti for starters and a Roast for the mains and everything was so tasty, best roasties and Yorkshire puddings ever! Pudding was an Eton mess which I didn’t try sadly but lots of people loved it. All of the staff are so helpful and we couldn’t have asked for a better venue for what we wanted. A special thanks to Robin for making the whole thing work so well. We can’t wait to come back!

I am 19 but I wasn’t drinking any alcohol. But still the waiter with short hair and a scar on his face kept coming round insisting I bought a drink and showed my ID. I felt very disturbed as I came out with all my friends that had showed ID and he was thoroughly insisting I had to buy a drink and show ID to stay in the pub.

My friend and I stopped by the AP on our way back from Strawberry Hill House (just down the road), where we had enjoyed our visit so much the onsite cafe was shut. All local cafes close early on Sundays so we chose the AP. It was busy with people eating / drinking but after ordering and paying for our drinks at the bar, we managed to find an empty table to enjoy our drinks. Dog friendly in bar area.

Lovely big warm Young's pub. Just over the road from the Thames.

The restaurant part is nice and cosy especially now with the Christmas decorations, staff wrre attentive and friendly. The food however is a mixed bag alltogether, the charcuterie starter turns out to be a few slices of prepackaged Italian salami and chorizo from a Supermarket. The same applied to the smoked salmon. The roast, beef, pork, and nut roast were all very nice. The dessert again was dissapointing, the cheese plate was a meagre 2 miniscule pieces of the same cheese, at £10. Clearly, starters and desserts are standard Supermarket ready made products to drive the profits, which is a shame especially when there are some great places around the corner for charcuterie and cheeses.

Amazing steak and lovely bottle of french red yum

After growing up in Twickenham for most of my life I had never visited the Alexander Pope Pub until a few months ago and since, we have visited on three separate occasions. The booking system is extremely easy to use and when you turn up for the booking the staff are very helpful and accommodating to help you find a table that suits you (if available). They are dog friendly as we had two dogs within our group, and this caused no issues at all. The food we ordered on all occasions was exceptional and we have no faults. The only minor comment is one time there was a delay in the kitchen times due to a private party. They notified us of this and told us an estimated time and provided us with a free drink because of this, which we would have been happy without. The staff, food and atmosphere are great and a highly recommend a visit.

We booked for a Rugby Autumn Internationals booking (specific option on the booking page) which was supposed to include a free round of Guinness when you dine. You'd also think it included a table in front of a screen to actually watch the sport. Turned up, the sport wasn't even on on the TV, and the table we had was miles away from a screen. Asked them to turn the rugby on which they did begrudgingly, but no sound (just blaring music at 5.30pm on a saturday) despite asking twice. Seems completely stupid to offer such a package and then not be set up for it. Sat there for ages, nobody came to serve us. We ended up moving ourselves to a better table and just ordering from the bar/the app. Food selection was terrible, orders were wrong and they seemed to stop serving food at one point between 7-8pm. Drinks over priced. Staff very slow and didn't seem particularly attentive and were just all chatting to each other. Shame because the pub is really nicely decorated and ambience is nice.
