Another great Sunday lunch at AW. Busy as usual, but we had to wait 45mins for the food to arrive, which was much longer than usual. As it was so tasty we didn’t mind. They’ve also put there prices up a few pounds, which again is fine as they still represent great value for the quality and quantity of food served.

We booked for 12 30pm and at that time were told we would have to wait ’ quite a time’ for lunch as they had a group booked in at 12 00 to serve first ‘ 3/4 hour ! The bill was wrong, forgot to charge for some drinks which we honestly pointed out and paid. Landlord was irritable and rude when we remarked we were disappointed that we had to wait so long for our lunch, apparently not his fault he had more than he could cope with ! One waitress very offhand as well, others cheerful. Food good, large portions.

We found this little gem and have since eaten here several times. The food is excellent, the menu is not huge but it caters for most peoples tastes. The staff are friendly, there is one lady who sometimes serves behind the bar who is not very helpful of friendly, but the waiting staff are all brilliant and the manager is a really nice bloke. The only thing that lets it down is the car-park, but we have only had problems once...it does get very busy. Overall I would recommend.

The two has been scored for the poor service but excellent food. When we arrived, we went to the bar to confirm we had a table booked only to be ignored 3 times until we finally managed to get someone's attention. We were advised to go to table 18 but no one showed us to the table so had to find it ourselves. As we sat down, we were offered drinks. We were not given any food menus. The drinks arrived but still no food menus. It was very difficult to get anyone's attention although plenty of staff milling around. We started to wonder if we had accidentally activated our cloaking devices! 25 minutes later, we finally got someone's attention to obtain menus. A further 15 minutes later we got someone's attention to take our order. My friend asked what the vegetables were that came with the chicken and leek pie, only to be given a blank look. The server went to find out and came back and said "everything". My friend told him what she liked and luckily that was what arrived. The main course of chicken and leek pie was delicious. Once we finished the main course, some time passed before the plates were taken away. We asked for a dessert menu. This did not appear after a good 15 minutes or so, then asked the same server again for a dessert menu. The desserts were delicious, brownie and honeycomb sundae and my friend had bread and butter pudding. The crockery was cleared (rather clumsily as the sundae glass was knocked over) and we were asked if we required anything else. We politely asked for the bill. A couple of minutes later another server cleared the remaining crockery and asked if we'd like anything else to which we replied the bill. We then noticed a Specials board which we did not see when we arrived. At no point did a server tell us what the specials were. Very disappointing as would have had the salmon fishcakes had I known about them. Great food, shocking service.

Lovely pub with its own car park (altho if the pub is very busy you might struggle to get a space). Large garden with plenty of seating and some play equipment for the children. Food is absolutely delicious and portion sizes very generous. Can highly recommend the roast dinners and if you’ve got room for pudding they can easily be shared between two. Only small niggle would be that the serving staff could be a little more smiley - we had a few different people serve us and whilst the 2 guys were friendly and smiling the girls were rather sullen.

A return to the AW was eagerly anticipated by all of us. I don't know how they do it, but the food and service is consistently high, every time we visit, despite it being busy. Had my usual, stake n ale pie ... the beef was super tender and flavoursome ... the chips perfectly crispy, the garden peas sweet and nicely undercooked. All topped off with flavoursome gravy. The PERFECT Sunday dinner, thank you.

Just had Sunday lunch at this very popular venue. Had enough roast beef on my plate to feed a family!!! Plenty of veg perfectly cooked and hot. Could not fault the food but the service was a fraction on the slow side but acceptable considering we were in a party of 30. Our first time here and it will not be the last. Price was more than reasonable considering the quality of the food. First class experience.

I'm not going to waffle-on in detail about my meal at AW ... all I need to say is quite simply, this is the best restaurant for Sunday (and any other day) lunch in the Peterborough area. The food quality, choice, service (by young taem) and price are excellent. It can't be beaten in my opinion. My only gripe ... and I should have checked the bill at the table ... they charged me twice for our drinks ☹

We had a lovely welcome, and we're soon shown to our table in the dining room. It was tastefully decorated in teal and brick. We ordered drinks and took a photo of the specials. Sadly, when our drinks came, the soda was flat, twice, so I opted for a diet coke instead. The menu was extensive, Liver & bacon, mixed grill, salad, baguettes to name a few, but our tummies settled on a porky grill , pork steak, gammon, sausage, black pudding, eggs, tomatoes, chips and peas. It was every bit as huge as it sounds, even without peas and eggs for me. It was really well cooked with good sizes of gammon and pork steak, but not huge. Eventually, like what seemed ages, we saw the bottom of our plates ! We agreed it was a great choice. We didn't feel rushed or out of place, even though we were visitors. The staff were lovely and friendly. As we left, we spotted a wooden pirate ship in the play area. Oh, how I wish I was a lot younger! If we are in the area, we'd definitely go back.

We had a wonderful gathering of friends and family for our Golden Wedding Anniversary yesterday at Admiral Wells pub. With 33 in total the cold buffet which was laid on was well presented, plentiful and very tasty. The desserts were Cheesecake GF, Eton Mess and brownies all delicious. I couldn't fault the food and the girls that bought the buffet in and laid it out. I was a little disappointed that when our guests arrived, the wine had not been bought in, nor the jugs of orange juice which were a welcoming drink for all. We had to ask for it twice. That's why I have given 4 stars, I wad hoping everything was organised so I had no worries. However, we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and a lovely evening was had by all.

The food was great , real vegetables ( not frozen ) , i had cauli , carrots , broccolli and parsnips and roast beef . Another had chicken and another roast lamb. The food was great and very good value , washed down with some adnams . Plenty of parking but the place was so full we parked on the road outside , but perfectly safe. I have been a spasmodic regular here for over 30 years! David and Co have consistently offered extremely good value for money! The fact that they offer small portions for most dishes tells you how large the normal portions are! Today 6th March l decided to have the Liver & Bacon option! As it has always been one of my favourite dishes l feel able to comment/ criticise! I have to say that the only word to satisfactorily explain the dish is “ exceptional”! I have yet to speak to anyone who has had a bad experience at A.Wells! There were 5 of us in the party having varying dishes! All were very pleased! Staff were polite and very helpful! All in all a very pleasing experience we intend to repeat quite soon! 😃👍

This is one of the few eateries in Peterborough that provides a proper home-cooked Sunday roast for a reasonable price. There were 5 choices of roast dinner, including a vegetarian choice. My roast shredded pork was tasty and fulsome, with a plate of al dente veg. Unfortunately the cracking was so hard I couldn't bite it, the soft roast potatoes could have done with another half-an-hour in the oven instead. A fab, fab place to eat Sunday dinner.

We generally rave about this pub but our experience on the 29/10 was poor. We ordered our food at 12.45 from a delightful lady at the bar and sat at table 2. We seemed to be waiting for quite a long time having also not been given cutlery and around 1.25pm, my wife caught the chef wandering past our table and asked genially, if we had been forgotten. The chef was a tad direct and said they were busy and we were in the system? A few minutes later cutlery arrived and about 10 minutes later, roughly about an hour after we sat down, the lunch came. Ironically, the people that sat at the table behind 15 minutes before us, received their lunch about 5 minutes after us, a total of 20 minutes from order to table as did some other tables. This I could tolerate but my wife and my lamb was tepid, the fat cold on the top and not to the usual high standard of this pub. We did not mention it, as frankly we needed to be gone as we drive a distance to eat here and had another prior engagement later in the afternoon, plus felt a little uncomfortable to raise it, bearing in mind prior response. I know this is a busy business and you generally do a great job but it is easy to slip a degree, where customers simply don't come back which is a shame.

We rocked-up on a busy Sunday lunch time, the place was packed wall to wall, so service was slow. But the food here is well worth waiting for, even during bust times. My steak and ale pie was massive, succulent and cooked to perfection. Others on the table reported their meat and vegetarian roasts equally tasty. The gravy boats just need to be a lot deeper. We were just too full for puddings. Full marks AW for continuing to serve the local community in this brilliant fashion.

Visited as we were staying in the area. Could not fault the food it was delicious. However, the welcome and service were terrible. We arrived, and the girl behind the bar told us our table number and said she would be over in a second to take our drinks order. This never happened, and it was a good 15 minutes before someone came to the table. There was a man behind the bar who we assumed was the manager. He didn't acknowledge or welcome us. The waiting staff looked scruffy and lacked any customer skills. The restaurant had zero atmosphere. Would not recommend. If the manager sees this review, you need to invest in staff training and maybe have a dress code for the staff.

I won't go over the points already made but would add that some staff training is clearly needed across the board, from the man in chef whites who 'greeted' us so rudely to the young waitress who was very abrupt. It is worth mentioning that the more mature waitress was very pleasant. Maybe she could lead the staff training?

Having checked that the pub was dog friendly, we were then told we couldn't use the nearest door with our dog but to go round the front. No sign telling us which door to use. After ordering drinks we asked for a menu - twice. Eventually we were given menus and ordered our meals. The food was good. On finishing our main courses the waitress collected our plates and asked us if we would like desserts. We decided what we would like and went to the bar to order. We were then informed that we could not have desserts or coffee as the kitchen was closed!! Having been offered desserts we were disappointed to be told this was not possible. The outside sign states 'A friendly pub'. On today's experience we cannot agree with this.

First visit inside a Pub since last summer ... and what a treat!Service was warm and welcoming. The place was full but there were enough servers on to cope. They offered a full menu and a selection of Sunday roasts. Most of our table went for the roasts but I want steak & ale pie, an old favour here. I wasn't disappointed ... a plate full of thick meat filled pie accompanied by perfect chips and crunchy veg. Delicious!Prices are very reasonable and service was attentive. THANK YOU for a great return to public dinning. I know you've done a lot for the committee during lockdown so best of luck getting your business back into gear, you thoroughly deserve it.

Wonderful 1st meal on easing lockdown on 18th. Wonderful food, wonderful staff, nothing too much trouble and felt completely safe. Although 5 days late couldn’t have been a better way to celebrate meeting my wife 57 years ago. Top dishes were gammon steak and liver & bacon. Thanks.

I went there last week with my partner and our friend for the Sunday roast and it was lovely! I really enjoyed the rump steak, my partner ordered the nut roast and she loved it - while our friend got the stuffed chicken breast which went down easy. Large portions, leaving anyone stuffed afterwards! We chose to order through the Round app, and that was easy to navigate and use. We will be back hopefully sometime soon, I highly recommend a visit if you're interested!

Booked a table for lunch 13th April, the day was gloriously sunny and warm. We sat out the front overlooking the rail crossing, it was fascinating watching all the trains. We had a wonderful meal, beautifully cooked and large portions. The service was excellent and all the COVID rules were followed. But my favourite thing was 3 real ales on offer, the only reason I was there really I had two pints of Digfield Ales, Fools Nook and I have to say the best beer I have tasted in a long time.

Visited the other night with family for our first meal out since lockdown so we were a little nervous. But we needn't have been.... staff were all extremely organised, professional and friendly under what are quite unusual circumstances. We felt very safe with all the safety measures in place. It was clear that staff are taking safety very seriously which was comfort7ng and greatly appreciated. In spite of new guidelines, and the fact the restaurant was full to capacity, service was really good with no delays. The food was also really good.... very generous portions and tasty. There is a wide choice on the menu. Just disappointed we didn't have room for a pudding. We will be back very soonThank you for making us feel welcome and safe.

We visited this pub as we hadn’t been there in quite a few years. Service was excellent and very quick with both the drinks and food. We just had a mains and pudding and found the mains to be average, but the puddings were excellent. The downside we experienced was that the burger that was ordered was a bit greasy and within a cheap bun. The place is clean and the serving staff were very polite at all times.

Firstly I was told when I called to book that we would be seated outside but undercover which was good as I don't like sitting in the sun. When we arrived we were sat outside and told the tables undercover were already reserved. When a waitress finally reappeared to take our drinks order we had a 40 minute wait to receive our drinks. Had to chase up twice. After another long wait our food arrived and it was really good. Took ages for waitress to come to clear table but when she did I asked if deserts were going to take as long as everything else did. She advised no and said she'd be right back to take our order. After another 25 minute wait we gave up and had to go into the bar to pay our bill as no one came back. The owner was behind the bar and was very rude when we said that things weren't up to scratch. We got no apology whatsoever. The restaurant wasn't even at half capacity. I understand they may be short staffed but when customers around us were getting served quicker when they had arrived after us just simply isn't on. Those people weren't ordering on the app either, just had a different waitress.

Have been coming here for a while and the food is always amazing. My favourite is the garlic mushrooms, so tasty, followed by a Sunday roast, haven't been anywhere else that beats it. Their covid precautions also make you feel extremely safe. The staff are friendly and helpful even when the pub is really busy.

Really good pub grub. Just visited this afternoon the pub has been set out very safely one way systems hand sanitizer. Lovely beer garden with good play area for kids. The food was superb good portion size and delicious chips. Plenty of staff around to keep food and drinks topped up. Will definitely visit again .

The food was ok, nothing special but the service we received was awful. The poor waitresses are running around trying to wait on all the tables inside and out but the two men behind the bar were doing nothing and quite rude. The phone was constantly ringing and neither of them could be bothered to answer it and we had to ask twice to pay the bill as they ignored our first request. I had garlic mushrooms to start which were not nice. The cream was more like water and the mushrooms were whole which made them difficult to eat with just a spoon and tasteless. Would definitely not rush back

We were coming past in the car after a bike ride in the area and were very wary about stopping as we have been shielding but we often stop here when passing..I asked if we had to book a table to have a drink and the young waitress (masked) said she would ask. She returned and pointed us to a table on the patio safely away from the next table. Our order was taken again by a masked young lady. The drinks were delivered on a tray and we were asked to take our own drinks. All very safe. There is signage up everywhere, a routed system in (though we didn't go inside) and hand sanitiser available. We only had a drink so we couldn't say anything about the food etc.I have only been in 1 shop so far but felt safer sitting here to have a drink!Well done, you are to be commended for following the guidelines properly.

Walked all the way to this place to see it's closed for 5 weeks. Would have been helpful to post on website, Facebook and update opening hours on Google search.
