A group of friends and ourselves met here for lunch, although trying to park the car was a nightmare, avoid Friday lunchtime! A selection of meals from sandwiches, lovely carved ham, prawn cocktails both said nice, a lovely looking prawn, smoked salmon, avocado salad, I was told was lovely and I opted for the skate middle, which was small but nice. As always the pub was busy, with efficient service and we all had a good time

The food here is home made, my wife had the steak and ale pie with chips and seasonal veg and a pot of gravy. The pie was stuffed with well cooked steak inside the lovely pastry. I had the home made lasagne with a salad garnish and slices of garlic bread. I did pinch a few of my wife's chips to mop up the lovely remains of the lasagne. Very good value and friendly staff. I would recommend this venue for good value and well cooked food.

Finally tried this place after driving past numerous times over the years. Came for wife’s Birthday lunch and was really pleased with it. Pub looks like you’d imagine from the outside, old, traditional country British Pub. Staff were friendly and service was excellent. Food was of a very high standard . Everything was homemade and the portions were generous. We all came out stuffed. Eating out anywhere is not cheap these days but this was well worth the money and we will definitely be coming back again soon.

Visited for an evening meal, myself and a work mate, we purposefully went on Wednesday night as we’ve previously been for steak night and we know it’s good. We both ordered fillet steak but unfortunately they only had 1 left, I settled for the sirloin and glad I did, I can honestly say that’s the best sirloin steak I have ever had. Really great meal, cooked to perfection, top marks to the chef, the food was brilliant.

Two of us popped in one Saturday after a country walk. It was bustling but the staff managed to find us a table. They were very friendly and helpful. Our food was lovely and fresh. I had a chicken salad and it was the best I had ever eaten with plenty of fresh chicken. My partner had a chicken Caesar salad with a tasty dressing. I would definitely recommend this lovely friendly pub for a casual meal. The home cooked pies looked delicious too and seemed very popular with other diners. Will definitely go back !

We stopped here for lunch after a walk around Warley Place. We opted for outdoor table in the garden, rather than out the front of pub which was nearer the road. It was nice quiet spot. We were served drinks swiftly. The server was friendly and attentive. The Steak pie was delicious; packed with meat. I would definitely recommend. Decent value. I would recommend and return if in the area.

Very disappointed. Booked a table to take my family and my elderly dad for lunch at midday. All of the tables were reserved. We got put on a bench which wouldn’t be suitable for my dad so I asked if we could change and got told that all the tables are reserved for their regulars!!. In the end we sat on a bigger table at the back near the road which was on a massive slope. Food was nice but won’t be coming again.

I was very disappointed today, because lately we have been going to the “Thatchers Arms”, on a weekly basis, and taking different friends each time. Until today we have always enjoyed the food and the atmosphere, sitting out on the green. The staff have always been pleasant and quick to place our order and bring the food, and although they have tended to disappear after that, it has never been a problem. Today, however, we waited quite a long time for our bill, and were dismayed by the manager’s attitude. When we asked for our waitress, he replied that she had gone home. We then asked whether he could bring us the bill, but after a long wait, my friend and I went inside to pay. We paid at the counter, and I tried to have a word with the manager, to impress upon him the fact that it would be nice, if a member of stuff could occasionally look in at the clients out on the green. My intention and tone was not to criticise, but rather, to help the staff enhance the customers' experience. What upset my friend and me, was the dismissive attitude of the manager, who muttered “thank you” as he walked away! A different person might have attempted some explanation, justification, or an apology along the lines of “I am sorry, but we are a bit short staffed...” ; we would have understood and accepted it.What a shame! They have lost us as customers, and a few more of our friends whom were planning to bring along.’Dr. R. Gupta

We went to this pub yesterday and it was the worst service I have ever received. They told us half hour later there was no salad, just before they brought out the other meals. We had no cutlery despite asking a few times. They brought the wrong drinks out twice, and then spilt one all over 2 of us. The waitress told us she was suffering from a really bad hangover, the waiter smelled of weed. There were young lads smoking weed in the car park. And to top it all off we said we were not happy with the food and service, which then resulted in us being asked to leave and never come back. We were so shocked, have never recieved such bad customer serivce

Lunched with a work friend, paid separately and sat outside. There was a 20-minute gap between her food and my food arriving. Also, Thatchers Arms do not operate a table number system, so it took the poor lady five minutes to find us sitting outside. The food itself was perfectly acceptable for a pub (omelette and sandwich). If the speed of service can be improved and a few pounds knocked off the price, I would upgrade this to 4 stars.

My husband drive past this pub everyday. Set in a beautiful location, a old building which looks full of charm calling you in with it's facade....oh such a different story on the inside. We walked in and the place was full of old age pensioners, nothing wrong with that but the looks we got because it seems it was their pub and how dare we be in there, we are in our 30's. My husband queued at the bar I stood next to him. One of the regulars pushed my husband not saying a word and sat in the stool my husband had been in the front of. A member of staff who saw this then went on to serve the, I would say gentleman but don't think it's fitting, and completely ignored my husband. Then looked up and was like yeah, how rude you want to be love. As soon as you walk in the place stinks of cooking grease. Dirty plates left on tables, food on the floor. The furniture was so old and battered I'm surprised it doesn't clapse. We took our drinks and downed them and left. The place needs new staff as well as a complete overhaul. It is definitely the worst place in Brentwood. Never have we been so disappointed. Shame it could be so beautiful.

The pub has been revamped since I last visited- warm friendly staff and new menus. Sadly no sea bass on the menu now( it was my go-to choice and firm favourite) and the ordered smoked salmon starter with bread and butter came as 'hot' smoked salmon, totally unexpected but still nice with the capers. Other starters- of garlic mushrooms ( lots of breadcrumb and tiny mushrooms) -sweet chilli prawn skewers - plain prawns overcooked and stuck to skewers with sweet chilli dip. Expected prawns to be cooked with glaze. Ok. Tried the special of monk fish and chips- loved the monkfish and the chips were to die for, but tiny salad garnish. Others had linguini with king prawns- delicious; and the steak and ale pie- meat beautiful but thick hard pastry (not eaten). No Puds. Staff very helpful although waited a long time for each course. This is very picky as the prices are very reasonable and staff very welcoming. Maybe a tweak here and there???

Was told where our table was on arrival. Had to find a member of staff to take order. Food was served promptly and very hot, portions were very large and food was very good, very inexpensive. Atmosphere of pub good a lot of walkers drop in for quick bite and drink.

This pub is really good, the food is wonderful and the service excellent. Have been here twice and each time we have been a large group of 15 or more and all the food comes up together and very hot. Will be going again and looking at menu for pre Christmas meal.

Visited with a large table of friends and family on a Sunday .Throughout the meal staff was so friendly and helpful all meals came up correctly even when we asked for some of the meals the be differentiated due to dietary reasons. The brunette serving food was so chatty and funny thought she was an amazing little waitress. Overall great experience would definitely recommend!

Visited today with friends for Sunday lunch. The food is excellent and service efficient and friendly - but you must book as this is a popular pub. Decor is rustic/punish but the food more than makes up for this. The Sunday roast (lamb & beef chosen on this occasion but pork & chicken roasts also on the menu) just under £10 was delicious, the roast potatoes being perfect, with a good helping of meat. Also chosen was the sausages and fluffy mashed potato which was well cooked and a hearty chunky meal. The food cannot be faulted but table layout is somewhat cramped as this is a pub for locals as well as popular for its food. Through past the bar is a further area for larger groups and a table was set here for approx 8 or more and is ideal for small celebrations. We would return for the quality of food, which in its class was top of the class, and friendly staff but it was quite noisy (children) the day we arrived and so would request a quiet table if possible.

8 of us celebrating a friends birthday got shown to our table and left with menus while someone took our drinks order, menus had a great choice to select from all very reasonably priced. Between us we had Chicken Pie, Steak Pie, Steak, Fish & Chips, Chicken BBQ Melt & Calves Livers. All looked absolutely lovely, the Pie slices were huge. All of us thoroughly enjoyed the food staff were friendly and very happy to help. Definitely recommend and visit again soon. Great pub and gardens are well kept.

A good local pub with a nice village atmosphere. The staff are very friendly, if not a little understaffed for the demand during peak time. New furniture throughout makes a big difference, this isn't an old pub with sticky wooden tables which makes a real change. Good quality local food as well.

Dropped in here for lunch, I was not disappointed, a good varied menu with reasonably priced drinks. I ordered my meal at the bar, the staff are very attentive and did everything promptly and did a good job of making sure I had everything I needed. Really enjoyed my hour there!

Had a really wonderful evening at the Thatchers Arms Greek night. The Greek platter was tasty, filling and served quickly. Good value for money. The staff were very efficient and the pub was very busy. A fantastic Greek band provided the live music, great fun watching the dancing. The hanging baskets are amazing! Very pretty. It is on a bend and plenty of cars goes by if you are outside but doesn't take away the pubs charm. The car park has been tarmacked so no uneven ground and the seating area outside the pub has also been given a make over so the ground is not uneven, however, some of the benches are on a bit of a sloping but nothing major. Great for summer drinks and food outside or in winter, keeping cosy and eating a tasty traditional meat pie.

Decided to try this pub today for lunch with a friend of mine and was not impressed.Firstly the young girl behind the bar had a very blaze attitude and couldn't even be bothered to look at us when taking our order. I had sea bass with soggy skin, Calamari had thick greasy batter, frozen peas were hard. Cherry tomatoes were the best part. As someone else mentioned there are far better pubs with much more up to date food and decent customer service.

We stopped here for lunch. The woman serving behind the bar was very welcoming. The bar menu was excellent, with loads of choice. I chose fried cod and my companion had bangers and mash. Both dishes were freshly cooked, good quality ingredients and the fish had light, crunchy batter - perfect.

Had a Sunday lunch and it was really good and tasty, had 3 courses, the starters weren't all that bit slap dash on the prawn cocktail, instead of a dollop on a plate, serve it in a wine glass would look more presentable, calamari was ok, not homemade! Roast very good plenty of it and lots of veg had the lamb and it was very nice, had toffee apple crumble again not homemade but ok.All in all a pleasant meal and nice building, plenty of parking now which is a bonus! Please put the staff in uniforms every one walking around, with different clothes on how do you distinguish between customers and staff it's crazy, it's the least you expect now days.Would of got 5 stars if staff uniforms were in place and greeted with hello!!! Instead of aaallllrrriiggghhttt!!!!!

I went here on a date and chose it because of the beautiful Tudor style cottage building. The staff was pleasant enough, but I would stress that it is right on a nasty bend and it is v dangerous when coming out of the car park. I would be nervous to pull out in the dark.

Four of us visited for evening meal. Old style country pub with low ceilings and lots of character. Food was reasonable price but not great quality. Soup was very good but calamari was a bit chewy and all were good portions. Main courses were 2 x meat pie meals which were huge , pie was very dry and lacked any gravy. The seafood linguini was not very tasty and surprisingly had chunks of crab sticks and very little seafood. The other pasta dish was the best out of the four. Service was reasonable apart from having to enter the kitchen to ask for some cutlery as the waitress served the meals and disappeared to the bar and I couldn't get her attention. The best part of the meal was the coffee which was fantastic. Pretty disappointed overall. Beware the pot holes in the car park as some of the holes are very deep and it's fairly dark at night .

A lovely bar with a great atmosphere. We really enjoyed the nachos and wine. However, watched the nachos delivered to the incorrect table, which were then taken back to the bar, and when I asked Jake what had happened to the order he did not admit the error. Instead, in an unapologetic manner, said the kitchen was very busy and we would have to wait. I didn’t see him smile for the duration of our visit. Other than that, a nice time

Exceptional food and service. The staff were helpful and attentive. Beautifully presented food. I expect you need to book. The only downside is the pub is small.
