Thatched House in Portsmouth

We go to the thatched house regularly. The food is always great and the staff are brilliant. Excellent customer service, would 100% recommend.

Excellent location, great service

I can't give a full review because we only sat outside and had coffee and cake. We had walked along the new sea defences alongside the Eastern Road, felt in need of a coffee and came across the Thatched House. Two coffees and two pieces of cake came to just £6.98 and were just what was needed before walking back to the car.

I do love the view from this place. The food is quite alright. Lamb was a little dry and focaccia soaked in oil, but the rest was ok. Staff are quite friendly and sweet, although one isn't very pleasant and ignores you to prove a point. Either than that, nice place

Our party of four, sat near the window overlooking Milton Lake. A very pleasant start to the day. It was a shock to the staff, as when she was about to bring out the meals, the air was full of thunder and lighting with hailstones thrown in for good measure. Luckily she kept hold of the meals! Three of us had lasagne and I had fish and chips, I found the fish was a little overcooked, other than that, the sundaes were lovely as was my latte. Overall, a great experience and welcoming staff.

The price is reasonable, the scenery is beautiful, and there is free parking. It is also a great place for families and children!

The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the service was also excellent. The Thatched House is a hidden gem in Portsmouth with an amazing view of Langstone Harbour. The only criticism I have, which is outside the staff control, is that the Toilets badly need refurbishing, and I hope that Greene King will do something about this soon!

I have to say I have been to this place a few times now and each and every time I’ve been here it has always been nothing other than brilliant. The food is always very well proportioned and is always hot when it comes out to the table, the staff are always very welcoming and warm towards me and my family when I come in. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a nice place to eat with a pleasant view especially when the weather is nice.

Staff are always friendly and the food is good. Location is very nice with views over the harbour and at this time of year flights of Brent Geese.

First time going here heard good things about this place and definitely delivered very nice food an lovely place and the staff was also very kind and welcoming with great views will definitely be back it's also in a lovely location as you can walk there.

Christmas meal was really lovely. The staff did everything they possibly could to spoil us. We had a lovely table with a beautiful view. Even gave my grandson a lovely gift bag with sweets and goodies in it. Will definitely return again next Christmas. Thank you all please keep up the good work

We called in here on the off-chance for a lunch in the run-up to Christmas. Cass who took our orders was welcolming and friendly. Fortunately it was not overly busy at the time we called in, and the meal we chose -a lamb shank with mash and vedgetables- was very soon brought to our table by Charlie who was again very polite and friendly. The meal was very satisfactory with the vedgetables not over-cooked and with natural flavour. Afterwards we had the Eton Mess Sundae. All in all, for a spur-of-the-moment pub lunch, it was a very pleasant experience, with both the staff and food thoroughly recommendable for a pub meal. We shall be returning.

Christmas day! We booked and preordered as soon as we could and arrived a bit early. We were sat promptly. Drinks were served at the bar efficiently and correctly by Chloe. The food was delivered promptly and was correct. The food was hot and plentiful. The staff were busy but really attentive and nothing was too much trouble. We go to the pub a lot, but today was a different league.

Decent prices and good food. The veg can often be a little undercooked but they do meat well. Service can be slow and I've found myself chasing drink orders, even when quiet. I would definitely recommend ordering at the app rather than waiting at the bar.

Amazing service. Held my baby’s christening here and the staff were amazing. We opted for the buffet and the food was so good. Everyone loved it.

I did NOT actually go!!! I have always loved the Thatched House and on this occasion, booked with a party, each of us paying a £10 deposit. However l was quite ill on the day, and asked for it to be passed on to the Thatched House that l could not go. l was then charged for the full two course meal. Of course l was prepared to forfeit the £10 deposit but not to pay for a meal l could not eat. The deposit should have covered the price of anything especially made for me eg. the main course. As l had been charged, a friend had the meal boxed up and later delivered it. Warmed up, only the potatoes were still enjoyable. Just a warning- if you book a meal at the Thatched House but then cannot attend, for reasons out of your control, you not only lose your deposit but have to pay for the full meal ordered. J. W.

Great welcome by the staff, the team here truly care about their guests. They were attentive, courteous, and polite. The menu offers a wide variety of options but you can't beat the Sunday roast... next time we're in the area, definitely another visit.

A good spot for a cheap, quick meal with friends. Decent enough selection of vegan options although I always end up ordering the vegan mushroom pie whenever I'm at a Greene King pub that sells them as it really is a great pie! The downside to the pub is that it's very cold, it was a very chilly evening when we visited and there didn't appear to be any heating on. The female toilets need a refurb; they were freezing cold, one door didn't lock and the hand driers don't work.

The food was delicious and very good value for money and the staff were very friendly and helpful and supportive and kind and the atmosphere was really good and service was quick. I totally recommend it. I will definitely be coming back.

We have been here twice now and had the gammon steak is was lovely no fat very tender and hot and very good value will be returning again staff all friendly and great service

Purchase Sunday roast the carrots where very hard the broccoli hard cauliflower the same only two roast potatoes. I complained to staff and was told ‘’ What do you want me to do about it’’ we also asked for 2 cappuccino 2 and was told the machine was broken and had been for two weeks.I thought the answer was sarcastic and uncalled for. Customer relations. terrible which is a shame because it’s a great pub with great scenery.

Booked a table for 6 with an hours notice which for them was no problem. Arrived a little early but was seated fine on table 2 Ordered at bar was served by a young lady and her friend with red hair both lovely. Food was great the lamb shank was especially good and the roast potatoes tasted very good. On the whole a fantastic visit and will definitely be back!

This pub is great if you want a drink & a nice view, the beer is always well kept. However, if you wish to eat here the food has always been a bit hit & miss! Chips kept under the hot lights far too long, multi-coloured peas, lasagne & hunters chicken overcooked & burnt at the edges. We thought things were on the up over the last 4 to 5 weeks. We noticed a new chef that was in clean chef whites & looked very hygienic. The food we ordered was correct in presentation, Camembert properly scored & served with rosemary as advertised, fresh bread. Main meals had hot chips, good ,presentation, & peas all one colour. Unfortunately, tonights meal was back to the old standard, sloppy presentation ,the Camembert not scored, no rosemary & half the portion of bread there should be. The main meal had freshly cooked fish, but the chips had been left under the heat lamps for far too long, & yes you have guessed it multi-coloured peas. Such a shame, when things were really on the up!

Had 4 amazing toast dinners. 2 lamb in an amazing gravy and 2 beef with gravy on the side as your own choice. Massive Yorkshire pudding perfect with a crunch and crunchy fresh roast potatoes. The veg had the perfect crunch. Situated by a window will a beautiful view. Would recommend to anyone. Staff were also friendly helpful and some had fantastic sense of humour.

Another great meal at The Thatched House. Always a very friendly atmosphere staff very polite and helpful. Will be going again soon and recommend it.

Very very dissapointed food was hot, BUT starter was served with bread which must have been kept a good few days hard as rock. Lasangne was just must, and tender broccoli with our was so tough not edible. Pie was good but mashed looked dry and not apitising at all. Over all no way will return for food. But views are great so will be just drinks in future

Reviews looked good so went along for dinner at 4pm. Looking forward to a roast but nothing left at 4 on a Sunday afternoon! No apology just handed the menus again to choose something else. Picked the steak pie, which was a lot of pastry and a few pieces of beef. It was served with mashed potato which had been left for too long under the heat lamp and ‘tender stem’ broccoli, which l couldn’t cut with my knife! Asked for a glass of Malbec but that was off too. Disappointing to say the least, wont be back.

Always can rate this place for its food, customer service and recently the entertainment they have been putting on. The summer days have been a real pleasure to attend. The entertainment and singers have been great and to be able to sit outside at this beautiful location and enjoy this with our meal is great. Just the right level of sound and entertainment for all guests. Well done Thatched house team for always trying to give a little more for your customers.

Generous portions, very tasty Sunday Roast, large children's menu

The Sunday roast(for £15) only has two small slices of meat which isn't much really is it? That's only one slice more than one! . I did ask if two slices was 'it' and was told, politely, "yes". Staff were friendly, location is great but I just don't understand why they'd be so frugal with meat on a roast dinner. Give an extra one or two slices... So people actually come back. Compared to a multitude of carveries it's just never a place I'd go back to for a Sunday roast again.

Rude manager! She needs to learn some manners. Even said nothing or look when I said thank you as we left. Worst manager I’ve ever come across. She didn’t look like she wanted to be there! The other lady who was running around for everyone was amazing! Smiley face. Very chatty. She deserves that position a lot more than the manager. Food was good for cheap and cheerful but the manger let the place down. Manager 0/10 Food 9/10 Other staff lady 10/10

We stopped here for a pint of beer and fish and chips. Delicious food as always, cold beer and a good time on a sunny day. The service was good too.

Regularly visit this restaurant and can never complain. Sarah and her restaurant/Bar staff are always so accommodating and there is help whenever we need anything with a friendly smile. Collette and the kitchen staff produce amazing food especially as I have a daughter with Gluten and dairy intolerances and they adapt the food to suit her without any problem at all. Always a great place for a traditional home cooked Sunday roast too - a favourite with us as a family. Very Highly recommend

The lady was really friendly and explained about ordering at the bar when we ready and then made a fuss of our dog. Nice to find such a dog friendly establishment. She also came back with colouring for my 5 year old, very nice touch. Didn't have to wait long for the food. My husband's roast beef was lovely and pink in the middle just the way he likes it and my mushroom topped schnitzel was absolutely delicious. My 5 year old loved their own little roast turkey dinner. We were stuffed so will definitely be back to try the desserts. Such a lovely place. We will definitely recommend

We booked a table for a group of nine. The staff were very polite and accommodating and everyone enjoyed their meals. The large garden is great in the summer, with a lovely view over the water.

As always when we visited The Thatched House, we had a perfect meal served as always by polite and friendly staff. Thanks to all for a excellent visit.

Every thing was great considering staff shortage so thanks to the staff. One thing to say the mens toilet was a little untidy and one urinal was blocked but that was all I WILL BE BACK

Terrible service. waited over an hour for food (1.20 mins for two roast beef a lil )ended up asking for a refund. twice this has happened now here . Wasn't busy and we were put on a table In the dark and wernt allowed to choose our table .they said the others tables were reserved and they weren't reserved as they were still empty when we left . The staff were slow and the trans gender behind the bar didn't stop yawning. Tables were marked wrong Numbers and they used this as an excuse for us waiting for food (rubbish excuse) We spent a wasted day waiting for food and sat indoors on a nice day . Slow staff that yawn and 200 hundred genders laters 😆 wish they were this quick at service. Avoid at all costs on a Sunday unless you got allday and money to spend I drinks while you wait .

Absolutely horrific food. Everything that came out was terrible....never had anything so bad. Staff were helpful and friendly but whoever is dishing out your 'food' needs to be fired...

They had nice specials. I had the Pulled Beef Rib and Beer Croquettes for a starter. It had a delicious red pepper sauce. It was raining when I was there, but it would be a nice place to visit if the sun was shining as there are tables outside.

Too many kids running about, car park is not maintained has loads of potholes that have been there for more than 5 years i won’t even consider going in because they don’t take care of the outside also there’s a sign that says vehicles parked are entirely at the owners risk so maybe cars get broken into round there would go there if car park was better

Ordered fish and chips had a bone stuck in my throat the mushy peas was just juice bo peas also ordered bread and butter but stale when informed the bar staff no apology came won't be eating there again showed the waiter the bone and it didn't register

Service was excellent, the linguine mussels were amazing, highly recommend, great selection of drinks, our favourite was the old moot cherries and berries on draft... Delicious! Thanks again for the lovely time.

We recently held a wake here and the staff were fantastic and the was buffet excellent. A lovely venue, thank you for making it a memorable day for us all.

We had excellent service today at the Thatched House. My daughter fell of her seat smashing her glass of coke with glass falling into her food. Staff came quickly and were excellent- showing real concern for my daughter’s well being and they sorted a replacement meal very quickly. The beef and ale pie we had was also delicious. Bar staff were also very friendly and helpful. Such an improvement since we came last. Great service and good pub grub.

As regulars in here, we tried the new bank Holiday specials menu for lunch, and it was very nice and as always well priced.. Thank you 👌

Went for lunch and was impressed! It was pleasantly busy, staff were welcoming and friendly, food was good and reasonably priced.

My husband and I took his Mum to the Thatched House today for Mother's Day lunch. We hadn't been there for a long time. We were immediately greeted warmly as soon as we walked in and shown to our table. I was initially a bit concerned that our table was close to the toilets, but I needn't have worried. Nobody caused us a problem and I forgot they were there. All the mums there received a free glass of fizz. A lovely touch that my mother-in-law appreciated so much. We ordered our meals and drinks at the bar. The service was great and our meals arrived within 5 minutes, all piping hot. We ordered 2 lamb shank meals and a turkey and beef roast dinner. Portion sizes were generous and I don't think anything on the plates were cooked from frozen. The lamb shanks were wonderful. The meat fell off the bone. The beef and turkey were cooked to perfection. There was nothing they could have improved on. The managers and staff were fabulous. They made sure we were happy and attended to at every opportunity. I can't praise them enough. My recently bereaved mother-in-law is still buzzing about the wonderful experience we had. We have already booked to take her back on Easter Sunday. Drinks a tad expensive, but food prices were great and offset that. Loved it. Absolutely loved it.

My partner and I decided to have lunch here and we agreed the service is impeccable, the staff are friendly and ever so lovely, willing to help and offer assistants if you need it. The food was delicious, and we even stayed for pudding. While I did enjoy the food, the people working there really make it a cosy and welcoming place to go time and time again.

Booked a table and arrived, you order at the bar, unfortunately some of the things on the menu were out of stock this you only found out after you had queued and got to the front would be easy to tell you when you arrived and were being seated, anyway meal arrived 2 of the seven meals came a little late , however they did apologise, the meals were lovely and we all enjoyed them, when ordering deserts for us we were told we weren’t allowed to order 3 children’s deserts only 1 as we only had 1 child with us, I tried to explain that one was for an elderly lady and the other a 16 year old who only liked churros on the desert menu but the woman behind the bar wasn’t budging on her rules, and when ordering coffee was told the machine wasn’t on today, all in all a lovely meal great location half the staff are lovely but half of them are letting this place down with there lacklustre attitude, I will return as the food and location more than make up for the few staff that let this place down

We was over this way from Essex attending a Charity Football match today. My cousin had arranged with staff for a section of the pub to be reserved for a number of us to have a drink and to enjoy food after the match. Staff was very accommodating, welcoming and attentive. The food was lovely, hot and fresh. My roast was delicious, and generous portion size. The atmosphere was great too. We will definitely be back when the weather is warmer so we can sit outside to enjoy the lovely view whilst eating lovely food. Thank you.

Love the Thatched House...go every week ...food very good never had a bad meal here.. staff very helpful and friendly ....views are amazing ...the setting is so beautiful right on the sea ....also very dog friendly....and put on lots of entertainment for children and adults .....what's not to love ....been coming here for years and will continue to even spending Christmas day here with my family.... please carry on the good work

A great morning was had at Santa's breakfast today. The children thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast and then meeting santa and getting their selection pack and Christmas prezzies. They had activity sheets and crackers. Thanks go to all the staff who made it such an enjoyable morning.

Went for breakfast with Santa. Food was amazing even kids cleared the plates and the gifts from Santa were fantastic. Had such a fun amazing morning.

Fantastic pub in a fantastic area. Every seat has beautiful scenery which is the perfect compliment for the excellent food, service and atmosphere. The decor in the pub is light and inviting and feels clean yet homely. Friendly staff are always available and eager to help out in any way they can. My new favourite place! Special shout-out to Bev, Collette, Rachel and Sarah.

Very pleasant and friendly pub. Very relaxed atmosphere. There is plenty of seating and easy to plan for special occasions. Local to my 93 year old father who likes his meals there along with his pint of Guinness.

Visited the Thatched House on a Tuesday lunchtime for a bite to eat with a friend. As always, the staff were so friendly. The barman was lovely and we had a good experience with the waitress and chef. We ordered 2 salmon fishcake meals with poached eggs. One meal was served and we then waited a few minutes and the second hadn't arrived, so I asked the waitress and she said the other one would be out soon, which it was. When she brought it she explained that the chef had not been happy with the poached egg as it wasn't runny enough, so had made another. I jokingly said "Ooh I'm jealous" and explained that my egg was a little harder than I'd like and she offered to take the meal back, which I declined as it was perfectly edible, just not exactly to my taste. A few minutes later she returned with a fresh, lovely gooey poached egg. Later the chef came out to apologise that my egg had been too hard, which was a lovely touch, - not necessary, as it was such a little thing, but it was still much appreciated. Well done and thank you all of you, particularly the chef. Sorry I didn't get any of your names, but for the benefit of the management if they wish to congratulate the staff, the visit was between 12:30 and 14:00 on 21 November 23.

The Thatched House was lovely,the roast Turkey was gorgeous, and the roast Lamb shank was also very good. The service was excellent and the pub was decorated brilliantly. Well worth a visit.

We were a party of 6. 2 of us waited a lot longer for our meals. When my husband's arrived the meal was cold in the middle. Eventually mine arrived and it was burnt. My husband's meal was replaced and the second meal was fine. The staff were kind and apologetic and thinking after I think I should have sent my meal back too but I wasn't sure how they would react. It seemed the simple fish and chip meals they could cope with but not the special more expensive meals on the menu. I noticed they are asking for chefs so perhaps this is why?

We went to the Thatched House Thursday 2nd November to meet up with family. We were a group if 8 adults and 6 children. We were waited on by a really lovely member of staff. We all had different meals , mine was katsu chicken curry with rice and chips which was really nice. Some went for pies another was Lamb shank. Hunters chicken. All the children loved there meals I don't think anyone left anything on there plates even my youngest grandson sat on he's Dads lap and was nawing on the Lamb bone lol. Most had Deserts and they went down a treat to . Thank you so much to the hard working chefs and staff for a great evening.

Visited a little while ago with family. Fantastic atmosphere, our table looked out onto the water and the views were fantastic. Staff were incredibly friendly and polite. Food was served in good time and was absolutely delicious. Will definitely return again when we're in the area

We booked a table for 2pm, a week in advance. To arrive and be sat outside the toilets, as in touching distance. To then go and order to be told there's no roast dinners, no children's roast dinners, no Mac and Cheese, basically nothing left available. Why accept a booking if you can't facilitate it? Or surely if you know you are that busy prepare more food?

I had the beef and ale pie. The pie would have been lovely if it hadn't sat in an oven or hot plate for a few hours. You couldn't cut the pastry it just shattered it was so dry. I'm sure your chef could see this, if not then they need replacing. The mash potatoes were grey and uninviting.

Lovely views coupled with a nice selection of coffee and sweet treats... I was greeted with a friendly face on a rainy day. Highly recommend!

Can’t fault the place, lovely welcoming environment, family friendly and cracking bunch of staff! Had the Mac and cheese and it was lovely, any questions I had on the menu the team were happy to assist. Shout out to Mandy and Rachel, very helpful!!
