We always seek out Thai restaurants when we travel. We found this small Thai restaurant in Edinburgh our third day visiting. It was one of the best Thai restaurants we have eaten at. The owners are so nice and have just moved from Bangkok. We ate at this restaurant 3x before we left. This is a MUST when visiting Edinburgh!!

Very good, above it's grade for a casual spot. Food is wholesome and tasty, well made, interesting. Friendly staff. Only thing is it's very small and the kitchen can be smoky (this is more a problem for the staff)

What a disappointment after being a loyal customer. Thailander offer a free meal after the 10th online order, however, they fail to mention this must be used within 5 days after the 10th order. Unknowingly the offer had expired when I went to use it . This is simply ridiculous and should be atleast a month. I contacted Thailander about this using their email address, however this does not seem to work. I eventually contacted the owner after getting the number from a member of staff. The owner stated he would talk with the store manager and get this sorted however, I never heard back about this despite trying to make contact. Certainly wont be back.

The food here is absolutely delicious. The dishes we tried were bursting with flavors. Highly recommend this resto.

The food is very delicious, the staff are friendly. Didn’t have to wait for long for food. Would really recommend Thailander. The price is reasonable to.

It was busy when I attended to pick up a takeaway. I got ignored for around 10-15 minutes whilst people coming up behind me to collect Deliveroo or whatever orders were spoken and dealt with. I felt rudely ignored. The food is very overpriced but really nice. Didn’t get much at all though and portions were small. The Pad Thai in the image was £12.50 and couldn’t even fill the tub.

I got the veggie pad thai and it was good. Not the best, but it did have a nice presentation. The service was not very good at all. The staff was too busy sitting and talking at the counter facing the window.

I actually had friends visiting me so we thought of trying some Thai food, already familiar with Thai cuisine I made plans to take my guests to The Thailander( never been before) well the food was ok but it was overpriced for the whole restaurant experience. The place is tiny and we were expecting it to be a restaurant however it was not, only few tables we were sharing table with other guests, food was good and staff was friendly but I wouldn’t pay like 80 to 90 pounds for the food we ordered. We ordered fish cakes, Tom yum soups and pad Thai.

REVIEW UPDATE!! I finally got the Pad Se Ew again and it was AMAZING!!! Whatever happened the first time was clearly a fluke and an accident. 5 stars all around. OG review: This place is always PACKED and I was excited to try it! The only reason I gave a low rating is because I think my pad se ew was cooked without any sauce? My Tom Ka was lovely and the quality of the ingredients in the pad se ew were great, but it didn't have any sauce at all on it. Sucks that I paid £9 for it. On the upside, they have a good rewards program. I hope next time is better 😅

Been trying all the Thai restaurants in Edinburgh but the group of chefs at this particular place are in a league of their own! Kept coming back to be able to try all their items on the menu. Superb is not tantalising enough word for their culinary art!

Had our first meal at the Thailander today .We have been looking forward to trying it out for ages but as we live quite far away it has been difficult to organise. We were not disappointed! Everything is fresh and cooked to perfection .Close your eyes and you would think that you were back in Thailand,One of the most authentic Thai restaurants we've ever been to in the UK.We will definitely be back,staff were so friendly ,can't fault anything .Compliments to the chef!

Food was genuinely some of the best Thai we've had in a good while in Edinburgh, good that it's 10 percent discount if you pay in cash, really quick service, would definitely go again or odder delivery in the future. BYOB too, happy days

Small restaurant, 3 tables, you have to arrive quite early. The staff is very friendly and kind. The food is delicious. 10% if paid in cash. I recommend 100000%. Possible to take away.

Went here on my tour of Edinburgh, simply for the name, and I'm so glad I did. The food is extremely fresh, authentic, non-gressy/chemically, and tastes amazing. Unfortunately this little shop is so popular that I wasn't able to sit in due to the tables being reserved, but takeout was well presented and made quickly. Definitely worth calling ahead a trying this place out.

Small authentic thai cousine with very friendly staff and especially the Pad Thai was amazing!

My favorite Thai food in town! Always delicious. Can get busy but the staff will always help you to find a place to sit.

This used to be the best Thai takeaway in Edinburgh a few years back. The egg fried rice was quite soggy and has bits of noodle in it, the Thai red sauce very thin and didn’t have much chicken in it. There was a lot of a certain vegetable that looked like sliced chicken but didn’t taste good. It’s a bit expensive for what you get, not worth the price in my opinion. I miss the friendly staff.

3 visits at The Thailander and we love it. Lovely little restaurant, delicious Thai food. We tried lots of different things and loved it each time. We highly recommend and we'll be back soon.

One of the best Thais I have ever eaten! While in Edinburgh we tried this restaurant, and we were transported to Thailand for a meal!! We had the Red and Green curry… exceptional!

Such delicious food and for a really good price for Edinburgh! We all had the pad Thai and loved it - only critique would be more tofu, because 4 pieces didn’t feel like enough.

Food was just amazing. This is one of the best Thai restaurants I’ve been to! I ordered a spicy pork belly and it was incredible. Was it very spicy? Yes. Was I so sobbing while eating it? Yes. 100% worth it! The servers were really nice and friendly and I think the prices are reasonable. Loved it!

We had the loveliest of family meals this evening to celebrate my birthday. The pad thai was simply delicious and the owner who knew it was my birthday was so kind and made the evening so special for us. What an absolute gem of a place. Thank you.

We've gotten takeaway from The Thailander many many times and it's usually a great experience! However, last time we found eggshells in the food which was a bit disappointing. These things happen, but one of the pieces was quite large.

Amazing food and the staff was so so nice, too. Really felt like being back in Thailand. The pad Thai was awesome- really authentic, but the crispy pork belly blew us away! The sauce was something else! Not much space but definitely worth a little wait. We were here on a random Thursday and it was packed - rightfully so. Thanks so much for the great experience.

Can't believe I've never been here before. The food was absolutely amazing. Full of flavours and great portion sizes. Would highly recommend it if you're after authentic and good Thai food.

I ordered home take away. There are some incredible Thai places in Edinburgh who deliver and I’ve never seen this place before so thought I’d give it a try. My bad. Prices on expensive side, assumed due to great quality, no. Then realised they are about 20/30% higher when ordering via Uber so they choose to do home delivery and expect us to cover their fees? Thai green curry - think of a green soup with all the salt needed for a small family. Pad Thai - bland. All the salt in the curry. Tempura vegetables - I’d be embarrassed to charge a customer nearly £8 for this (see picture). Measly. Crooks. I cannot fathom the rating this place has.

Food was good, cleanliness concern with the glass water jugs given to patrons.

We had a very good experience and food was awesome. We had green curry and red curry veg. Would definitely recommend spice lover to try the red curry with steamed rice.

Lovely little place. Seriously good Thai food. Really quick service. Definitely go here to support a local business. (Also, it’s BYOB, so bring some beers with you).

We were visiting from London and ordered takeout. Unfortunately the food was average at best and not really value for money for the portion size or quality.

Best Thai food outside of Thailand. Spot on and great service. Mostly a take-away, but has seating for about 15 people inside for sit down meal. Recommend booking. 😊

Top class, whatever they've got, you're wanting it

We were visiting Edinburgh from NYC. We were dissatisfied by a few restaurants until we ate at The Thailander. We ordered Corn Fritters, Pad Thai, and Pad See Ew and it was so good we had to try the Mango Sticky Rice. Everything was amazing - thank you!

What a change after a few months. It is a great Thai take out now. Don't ruin it ! Poor service. Staff should have a basic knowledge of the menu. Elementary really. Basic command of English would be a plus as well. Which is a pity because food is really good.

I have eaten a few good Thai meals and must say this is up there with them. Excellent tasty food and very friendly service. Only a small place, so be aware when turning up on spec maybe have to wait for a while. Food was delivered promptly and we had a good crack with the staff. All round marvellous experience.

Only place in Scotland that actually does proper authentic Thai street food. The place is small and intimate. Has a BYOB with corkage fee and 5% discount if pay by cash.

What a shame....Birthday night out and they mucked up our booking! However its always great food here..if ya lucky to get a stool!

Had pad thai with chicken and it was very good! The spices were on the side and it didn’t stop me to use them all. It was really spicy 🌶️ So be aware of that! Restaurant is small and cosy. They have only a few tables, so book in advance. I didn’t so I had to wait a bit.

Small local without any outstanding climate, waitress was really kind. We had pad see eww, which was ok, but didn't make us want to come back. Prawns were also ok, but I've eaten better.

Had the mango and sticky rice and felt quite close to home (bkk)! Reasonably priced compared to other places and the owner chef is a sweet lady. Will def be back for more dishes Edit: went here with my friend and we ordered a couple of dishes including panang curry, pad thai, red curry, satay and mango sticky rice. We absolutely loved the food. Hands down the best and most authentic Thai food one can find in Edinburgh. A must must must visit if you’re in Edinburgh and are craving for an authentic Thai food. Have added it to my go to Thai place. Heart and tummy both were very satisfied! Value for money. Friendly service. Once again, it took me back home!! Definitely coming back and will recommend others to visit too 🤍

Merita di sicuro una visita. Per il compleanno di Zeno abbiamo optato per la proposta Thai Banquet. Tutto molto buono, moltissimo. Non é la nostra prima volta in un locale tailandese e devo dire che qui abbiamo trovato qualità superiore a certi posti più blasonati. Il menú prevede una selezione di antipasti per due e tre piatti principali. Tutto abbondante e per due persone ne avanza. L’ambiente é un po’ piccolino stile tavola calda rustica ma la qualità del cibo merita un piccolo sacrificio se si cerca un ristorante tradizionale. Bravi.

Un lugar pequeño pero la comida es deliciosa y la cantidad es adecuada, ni te quedas con hambre ni sales con el estómago a reventar ( teniendo en cuenta que sólo pedí un plato y con eso fue suficiente,al menos para mí)

Over 14.oo for green curry and rice... Not worth it.!! Very small portions. Had takeaway before and they've def cut back on size portions..!!so very disappointing!!

I used to love the Pad Thai here, but after recently trying it again I must say I'm really disappointed. There are no flavours anymore.. it just tastes like oil. Might be due to the fact that they changed management a while back. The curry was okay but really miss their good old Pad Thai.

I had a rice, a sticky mango and a Thai milk tea and it charged £31.45? A little pricey. Eventually the restaurant charges if you sit in to have your meal.

Amazing and authentic Thai food! The prices are very reasonable, the staff is very friendly, and the atmosphere of the place is lovely. I was so happy with the food, it was delicious, amazing portions and reasonably priced, I will definitely be coming back, if you are in the area definitely check this place out!

COULD EAT THIS EVERYDAY 3 times a day for the rest of my life! Best Thai food i've had in Edinburgh, and I've had a fair amount, really simple setup for seating etc but don't be fooled by their modest venue, so much flavour and everything is cooked fresh. The spicy coconut soup I had was so good, will be back for sure, lovely staff too, quick service with a smile

You can see how they cook the meal in the kitchen, its always an amazing smell comes from it. I hope they have separate wok for the one without pork, i definitely want to try the pad thai, but because im a moslem, i try the safest menu, which is tom yum, and its actually pretty good, but the herbs is quite big, and when you chew it, it will give unpleasant texture, like this quite big lemongrass. They only have dried chili here, so dont expect the food will be quite spicy. My friend try the beef pad thai, and its too sweet for him, i hope they will try to use the thai chili soon.

Great food, great service, apparently cooked in a traditional way, but gets a lot of steam and there's no ventilation (you can't see inside from the street, the windows are all steamy) and inside it's a bit suffocating

Delicious and filling food from start to finish. All the dishes had a homely feeling to them. The Kao Moo Krob is a must-have, and in generous portion. The service was excellent and the staff very attentive. I would highly recommend!

One of the recommended Thai restaurants in Edinburgh I tried. I try ‘Thai style Khao moo Daeng’ or bbq red pork in sauce with rice. The flavour is little mild. Popia or spring noodles is nice and the noodles is good but you can season more with the condiments that you can ask staff (chili flake, sugar etc) . Staff and chef are friendly as well. The restaurant is not spacious so better come early or takeaway options is also popular.

Food was amazing, you can see the Thai women in the kitchen. Fried rice dish was 10/10. Fairly priced aswell. Please get pineapple in the kitchen so it can be added to dishes!!!! 😋

Always my favourite Thai fix! Authentic and well balanced flavours, bold spices, good portions, and very reasonably priced. Great for sit in, single person meals and takeaway too. This homey little restaurant is always bustling. Must try: kao pad kee mao (beware quite spicy - kao pad also good but just not the same without the spice), kao moo krob, tom yum. (They offer a good loyalty program too)

Excellent curry that really hit the spot. Quickly prepared and loads of chicken and veggies with it too. Small but lively place, can defs recommend for a great curry.
