Have to say immediately to any prospective customers - beware, the name has changed as has all the decor, so externally it looks nothing like the pictures and is still listed here as Thailand Number 1 even though the chain is now called "Paste" (in my view a bad move as it now gives no indication of what food is served !)

Mixed starter was fantastic although slightly pricy for what you got. Main meals were amazing but phad Thai portion was small. Good wine. Let down by the fact the toilet seat was held together by cellotape!

Absolutely impressive. My boyfriend and I were left thrilled after our visit to you. Warmly greeted on arrival. Sat down and straight away looked after. The food was the best Thai food I have ever had, and I have been to many Thai restaurants. The staff always keep an eye on you without making you feel uncomfortable and we really enjoyed sitting in and relaxing. A really lovely evening and by far one of my favorite places to eat. I'll be bringing the family here soon, I was so impressed.

Possibly the best Thai restaurant in Nottingham, food is almost authentic Thai, with little of the usual westernisation you get in many restaurants. Set meal is good value as well. Service is usually ok, but can be sporadic when they get busy

The food was great and it had an authentic Thai taste to it. I had the prawn toast, Tom yum soup and pad Thai. The prawn toast were perfectly chewy and crunchy, Tom yum soup was perfectly spiced and the pad Thai was well prepared with the vegetables cut to perfection. I would definitely have another meal there again.

Booked for an evening meal with our grand daughter, who had eaten here before and recommended it. Although gently bemused by the menu, as this was a new experience for us, the staff were extremely helpful in suggesting an appropriate combination of dishes and they certainly turned up trumps, with an absolutely first class meal combining a wide variety of dishes and tastes.

I was visiting for business and arrived at the restaurant reasonably late (maybe 45 minutes before closing). I did not have a reservation but it was quiet given mid week/late evening, and was quickly greeted and seated. Lots of choice on the menu and great that they have clear allergen guidance. The restaurant itself was nicely located, nice ambience, pleasant table setting etc.

I paid a short visit to Nottingham with a friend who had never had Thai food before. We came across this restaurant and received a lovely welcome as we entered. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with various trinkets and artefacts adorning the walls. We had two courses and soft drinks and the bill came to approximately £50. The food was delicious and this place is well worth a visit. My friend now wants to eat more Thai after this great first time experience.

Very classy and cool decor. Walked in for lunch and was seated right away. Ambience is nice and staff very friendly. Lunch specials are 8.95£ and comes with a starter and a main, which is more than enough food for 1 person, and worth every penny! Food was good...and I highly recommend the chicken skewers with peanut sauce or the spring rolls. The fried tofu was good, but I preferred more taste in my food, which is why I opted for the other starters. The pad ke mao was awesome! Most of the dishes come with rice, but can be substituted for noodles, which I prefer. Pay attention to the spice levels, because Thai food can get fairly hot. The dish I got was a three star and pretty spicy, even for a spice lover like myself. But it was really flavorful. The house wine was only 2.75£, and complimented the spicy food, so I was happy. I highly recommend! You can easily miss this place in the hustle and bustle and crowded area of lace market, but if you have a chance to try it, definitely make time to go for a great filling lunch!

Celebrated a late Valentine's Day evening meal here on the weekend. My boyfriend booked it as a surprise and was certainly a pleasant one! We were running a little late so rang to pre warn the restaurant and this was dealt with fine. Upon arrival we were greeted promptly and seated straight away. Service was lovely and quick throughout the visit. We ordered the house red wine which appeared pretty much the next second! For starters I had the prawn toast and my partner had the prawn and chicken pastry balls. Both starters were piping hot and came with pleasant decoration on the plate, showing effort had gone into the meal. The Thai green chicken curry was delicious although a tad bit spicy for me (not much of a spicy fan!) yet it was plentiful and also very hot. The red duck curry was also great. Both were placed on a candle light to keep them warm - another nice touch. The bill came to just over £50 for a bottle of wine, 2 starters 2 mains. Will definitely be back to try the set evening menu.

If you love being made to wait for 2 hours to get from starter to main course and another hour for the bill, all the while being told by various members of staff each time you ask that its not ready yet and each of them with thier own take on the events that led to you having the poorest service in the world and feeling like a detective in a cheap CSI rip off with no clue who is telling the truth. From "we are one chef down" to "the walkie talkie connecting us to the kitchen broke" to "you looked like you were enjoying yourselves so we didnt want to bother you" being the excuses on offer, if only the menu was that imaginitive. Service so bad you dont know whether to walk out, laugh, cry, call mountain rescue or start screaming. we arrived at the restaurant at 8pm as per booking. We ordered drinks and food. Drinks arrived and the starters shortly afterwards. Then nothing for over an hour. We were given hot plates which went cold. Candles to keep food warm - they went out.No one seemed to know what was happening. The tables around us who have arrived after us were served and had eaten their entire meal and we still were being told few more minutes. At 9.45 we asked to see the manager and a lady who spoke little english told us she was in charge and the manager was on holiday. She didn't seem to grasp our complaint that we had no food and wanted to leave to find somewhere else to eat. She wanted to charge us for the food and when we refused she locked the front door and put the key behind the bar. All fire regs and health and safety ignored. When we told her this she still chose to ignore it. We paid for our drinks and she eventually let us out about half an hour later still saying our food would be a few minutes. i had eaten there before and it was my recommendation but i will never book this restaurant again

Waited over an hour for food - hot plates bought to table but then went stone cold and still no food despite numerous promises that it was on its way. We complained and asked or bill as we had received drinks - they then tried to charge us for food and locked us in the restaurant refusing to let us go without paying total bill. We stuck it out and didn't pay for food. The key to the door had been taken away so if there had been a fire no one in the restaurant could get out. No manager on site - he was on holiday. It wasn't as if the restaurant was full, people were coming in getting served, eating and leaving whilst we were all still waiting!

Our party of 7 arrived at 8.00pm after having booked. We ordered our starter and main at 8.15pm after ordering drinks. The starters came at 8.30pm. At 8.50pm our hot plates arrived. We ordered more drinks. At 9.15pm a waitress told us our food would be coming soon. They took the now cold plates away. 10.00pm we complained. They said it would come soon. 10.15pm we said we were going and not paying for the starter as really bad service and we were hungry but we would pay for the drinks. They head waitress got very angry and demanded we pay for the starters. We asked to speak to the manager and were told he was on holiday. We put the money down for the drinks (£70) and attempted to leave. They then locked us in and 3 waitresses stood near the door blocking our path. Other diners had eaten who had arrived much later than us. We asked to be let out as it was only fair they let us off paying for the starter, they threatened to call the police which we agreed with but stood our ground very politely. It was now 11.00pm and guess what? Yes, the meal still hadn't arrived! In the end we paid it all and they let us out. Isn't it kidnapping? No sorry about not giving you your meal, just nastiness. Having finally ordered from a waitress who understood very little English our drinks order turned up wrong, once rectified another waitress took our mains order and confirmed our starter. You cannot take the food away from them, it is amazing. Hot, fresh and full of flavour. Visited on Saturday night before attending a concert. I think a lot of people had the same idea to grab something before the concert as the restaurant soon filled up as we arrived. We got there at 6:20 and ordered within 20 minutes. The staff were very very busy and seemed very harassed. We chose the set menu for 2 people and the starter came within 20 minutes, however the main course took a further 45 minutes to arrive so it was a little rushed as the concert started at 8pm. We'd ordered fresh drinks as our starter plates were taken away and the drinks didn't come until our main course arrived quite a while later.People who arrived ten minutes after us (also going to the concert) only received their meals as we were leaving. The food itself however was divine! It tasted so fresh and was so flavoursome. The Thai green curry was delicious and warming, the beef was tender and the chicken and noodles just yummy!! I would definitely come here again, just on a quieter night so try some other dishes. It knocked spots off any other Thai restaurant I have been to. Five stars for the food, three for the service.

we arrived at this restaurant just after 6.00 P.M.with the intention of an early dinner before attending a concert at the Nottingham Arena at 8.00. Plenty of time you might think but totally wrong! Our order was taken reasonably efficiently followed by our starters, which were good, after a slightly too long wait. Sadly at that point things went downhill with a totally unacceptable delay in the arrival of our main courses. We gradually became more and more apprehensive as time went by, as were other diners who clearly were attending the same concert. Eventually at 7.20 with no sign of our food we realised that there was no reasonable possibility of being able eat and make the concert we decided that we had no alternative other abandon or meal and leave hungry. When we came to pay our waitress expressed surprise because we still had 35 minutes until the concert started. Bearing in mind that there was still no sign of our food and we had a 10 minute walk to the venue we did not share her view.Whilst the food may well be fine we cannot recommend this restaurant if you are under a sort of time constraint.

My husband and I visited this restaurant last night, my husband has wanted to try Thai food for a while now, so we decided to visit. We ordered set menu B as we both know nothing of Thai food or Thailand's culture in food. What a delightful find, the food was very different to anything else we have eaten before. I am a coward when it comes to spicy but my husband loves spicy food, this food wasn't spicy at all the soup and a meat dish was spicy for me but I didn't care because the flavour was so delicious. Unfortunately there was so much food that we couldn't manage to finish it all and we was very sad to leave what we couldn't finish. The service was very professional. The price was a surprise we didn't expect it to be so much as we've had Japanese and "proper" Chinese food and paid much less for the same quantity of food. But this doesn't deter us from coming back soon, but treated as a treat rather than a regular.

In just the same way that a band is only as good as its drummer, a Thai restaurant is only as good as its rice. Sadly, the rice was overcooked, flavourless, and lacking any fragrance. The prawn cakes were decent if uninspiring. Mains were insipid and tasted like the sauces had been frozen and microwaved. Wine (Aussie sparkling) was pretty good value, to be fair. We have been coming here for some time (almost every time we're in Nottingham) and have never been disappointed. However we stopped when we found the Matlock branch used fish in all their vegetarian food. My wife was upset as Thai is one of her favourite cuisines and Thai red curry her favourite dish. We'd been to the Tarn Thai just up the road and found they did the same (using fish/shellfish in the vegetarian dishes). So we were on the prowl for something she could eat. On the chance the Nottingham branch used a different supplier for their curry paste (or made their own). It turned out that on request they are quite happy to use a vegan curry paste for their customers so we ate there again and again we were happy. So much so my wife did a happy dance, not good as we were in the window seat :)

We went in without booking as we tried another Thai first but this was fully booked :(The waiter seated us quickly but was an awkward table where everyone was walking by from the kitchen and go to the loo. We waited 10 mins and then had to ask for a menu and drink. We ordered vegetarian menu for 2 which the main was lovely but the majority of the starter was deep fried veg which was such a shame. Would have been nice to have some tofu and other fresh veg. The mock duck was good, sweet and sour tofu and Thai curry were all really nice but service was really bad. Wouldn't go back as there are much nicer thai's close by.

When we arrived, the owner was really in a hurry to take the order and said the kitchen is about to close. We asked to bring us a set meal (A) for around £21 so three of us could share, so he did. When he brought the bill it was, 21 for each. The food was just okish but the quantity was really small if we consider the prices. It was a total rip-off, I wouldn't recommend anyone to go there. The owner was really rude as well and the way he was treating and speaking with the poor waitresses, I really felt bad for them.Never again!

We called here when staying overnight in Nottingham. Although we had not booked we were shown to a table. All the staff were very friendly. Originally we were not going to have a starter but once we looked at the menu we changed our minds. I cannot have chilli but was offered a plum sauce with my starter. The food was very tasty and would recommend this restaurant to anyone .

Booked this place last minute with 3 other friends. Place was busy when we arrived, however the service was great and very friendly. Food was amazing, really tasty and plenty of it. We were the last ones in the place but weren't being rushed out. I would highly recommend for anyone looking for Thai food in Nottingham.

My wife & I ate at this restaurant whilst celebrating my birthday in January. The Thailand No1 is situated in the centre of the Lacemarket which in my opinion is the main hub of nightlife in Nottingham. We had a lovely friendly greeting by staff & were promptly seated in one of the front window tables which proved great for people watching as we enjoyed our evening. The restaurant frontage makes it look like a small premises but this is deceptive. It actually has many more seating areas around the corner plus a large upstairs seating area.We shared a chefs platter for starters & this was of good quality. For mains we chose Tom Yum Goong (spicy prawn soup), Larb Neau (spicy beef mince salad) & Pla Sam Rod (Boneless crispy sea bass cooked in Chef's special three flavours sauce). All of the dishes were delicious & perfectly cooked. This was the first time I have tried Pla Sam Rod & it was a great choice! All in all we had a great evening. So much so that we returned the following night for another meal!

We ordered the vegetarian set meal for two. It was delicious, but we found it too much. Either the starters OR the mains would have been enough for us.

We were so lucky to come across this restaurant. The ambience was pleasant. Not so busy. Two of us ate and with a couple of glasses of wine, about 40.00, but the food was 'gruntingly' beautiful. If there was a fault, it was that the waitress was somewhat over zealous, we wanted a glass of wine and to have a look at the menu, however twice the waitress arrived asking where we ready and when we looked up she was busy looking around at other clients. Noticeably there were three ladies eating slowly and enjoyable at the front window and the waitress asked at least three times whether they had finished, every though they were obviously eating. However this in being picky as the food was 10/10 and I thank them for that, very much.

We popped in unannounced on a Saturday evening and were able to get a table. The service we received was very courteous and professional - we were well looked-after!We had a starter - the minced chicken & prawn parcels and the king prawn in filo pastry. They were served with a sweet chilli dip and a salad garnish. Absolutely delicious. For mains my husband had chicken green curry with egg fried rice and I had, well I forget what it was called but I think it was a tamarind sauce, and I opted for the king prawns rather than crispy duck (it was number 48 on the menu if that helps!) with a portion of coconut rice. The green curry was beautifully presented in a warmed dish set over a candle to keep it warm. I tasted it and it was beautiful and very flavoursome. My dish was delicious, I loved the sauce. The only criticism I have is that the king prawns were basically the same as the ones in my starter - wrapped in filo pastry - but to be fair there were plenty of them and they were big and chunky with absolutely nothing to complain about. It was me who ordered prawns for starter AND main after all!We had two beers each and overall a good time was had. We'd definitely come back - great food, great service, good times.

Went out with my partner for her birthday and ate here, possibly the best Thai meal we've ever had. It was a quiet Tuesday night and the service was excellent and prompt. The decor was lovely and everything from the plates to the napkins to the menus were all plush and emblazoned with the company logo, a lot of attention to detail has gone into this restaurant. The food was delicious, bursting with flavours and it came in good sized portions. I'm not a massive fan of spice (I appreciate a Thai was an odd place to go for me!) but the staff were happy to make sure I had no chilli's etc in my dishes. Excellent!

Thailand No.1 was so convenient for the Mercure Hotel on George St it simply had to be tried.I hadn't received any recommendation or had any prior knowledge but I do like Thai food.I started with a Chicken Satay which proved to be beautifully moist. This was followed by a hot and sour soup in which there were not too many inedible aromatics which suits the western palate. It tasted really fresh although I should have liked it a little spicier; I did ask! This was followed by Pla Sam Rod which is crispy Sea Bass fillets in a special three flavours sauce. Superb!I would've liked a small portion of noodles though to go with my main course rather than a main-course-sized chicken noodle dish which not only pushed the overall price up caused a little struggle to finish the food (I managed!).The plates were nice and hot which helps prevent the food getting cold too quickly

As always the staff are uber polite and attentive. Veggie platter and set meal for 2 was fantastic and several bottles of wine. No rush to get you out at the end of the evening either. Bit of tranquility in the middle of the lace market on a sat night for those over 30 is perfect :)

Pleasantly surprised with this small Thai restaurant. Attentive friendly staff, not pushy but helpful. Good value tasty dishes with flexibility regarding level of spice. We were the last to leave and were not at all rushed by the staff, definitely able to recommend.

I visited last night with my boyfriend for my birthday. Lovely food, which was clearly labelled on the menu with allergens which made ordering a breeze and they were happy to accommodate my request of a slightly milder Thai green curry. Great service, they were very attentive and efficient. It came in at around £60 for three course meals for us both and a bottle of Prosecco - Very happy with the whole evening, thanks team :)

We tried this restaurant again after being disappointed on our last visit. We did not book in advance as we were planning to eat after the theatre. We arrived just before 10pm and there were plenty of tables. We started with Tom Yum and Tom Kai soups and they were both very good. For our main we selected chicken green curry with stir fry with boiled rice and duck with tamarind sauce with noodles. The duck did not need the extra noodles dish as there was plenty served with the duck. The food and service was very good.

Worst Thai ever - hardly any meat. Curry’s didn’t turn up with any rice and when I phoned up, the lad on the phone said there was nothing he could do about it!!! Awful!

I went to Royal Thai with my boyfriend for my birthday dinner and what a treat it was! The new owner is lovely and clearly a very skilled chef! All the staff were personable and super attentive and there was a really cosy atmosphere in the restaurant. This was definitely the best thai meal I have ever had. We had the prawn spring rolls and the ribs in red wine sauce to start, which were both yummy. For our main, we both had the red thai curry. My boyfriend had his with chicken, which he says was delicious. I had mine with prawns - now these are big prawns, which made me very happy. There was depth to the flavour and a good level of spice (warming) in the curry. The portion size was perfect too. I will 100% be back for more.

Absolutely fabulous food. The best Thai I've come across in Nottingham. All home prepared and cooked and it showed. I'll certainly be back!
