Royal Thai Restaurant in Nottingham

I went to Royal Thai with my boyfriend for my birthday dinner and what a treat it was! The new owner is lovely and clearly a very skilled chef! All the staff were personable and super attentive and there was a really cosy atmosphere in the restaurant. This was definitely the best thai meal I have ever had. We had the prawn spring rolls and the ribs in red wine sauce to start, which were both yummy. For our main, we both had the red thai curry. My boyfriend had his with chicken, which he says was delicious. I had mine with prawns - now these are big prawns, which made me very happy. There was depth to the flavour and a good level of spice (warming) in the curry. The portion size was perfect too. I will 100% be back for more.

Probably one of the best meals I’ve ever had. The staff are really friendly and bend over backwards to make your meal even more enjoyable. Will definitely be going back, this is my new favourite restaurant in Nottingham. It puts other Thai cuisines in Nottingham to shame.

The green curry is great, even the best I have ever tried in England. The owner is very talkative, there is even 10% off for student and open till 0130am!

Really had a nice time for my birthday. Got 2 round of free shot drinks from the owner. Excellent service and tasty food. Would recommend the tom yum soup and red thai curry with egg fried rice.

Visited Dao's kitchen what a wonderful personality chef Dao is, she made our experience memorable. We had a mix starter which was excellent and a fantastic green curry main. Dao's kitchen at Royal Thai is a must try for all Thai food enthusiasts.

Visited royal thai Dao's kitchen A new Chef here. It was a brilliant experience the food is of the very highest standards. I had mixed meats green curry the best I've ever had. I will definitely be eating here regularly Dao is an amazing chef and a delight to talk to a Five star 🌟 plus rating.

Pretty basic takeaway. Tom yum soup very disappointing. Main courses average. Quite expensive for what it is. Unlikely to use again.

Poor quality food and they only offer small 330ml beers.

Visited Sunday afternoon and the restaurant had only just opened for the day so we were the only customers for about 30 minutes. Very warm friendly greeting and we found the restaurant to be relaxing and quite intimate. Good range of dishes on the menu and we started with squid and duck spring rolls, both of which were very good. Main courses were chicken pad Thai (excellent) and Nam Makahm with jasmine rice (also excellent). Jasmine tea and a Singha beer completed the meal. Service was good and we rated the meal as good value for money. Would have visited again on Monday but unfortunately the restaurant is closed then.

A lovely traditional Thai restaurant. I was working in the area and spent 2 nights in Nottingham. I found this little gem near to my hotel. The food was excellent and service outstanding.

This is the 2nd time we've been back since it reverted back to Royal Thai (The original Royal Thai wes our favourite). The young girl serving us was excellent & informative and so pleasant. The food was delicious. Thai fishcakes and chicken satay to start followed by chicken and cashew nuts with egg fried rice. My wife also had a stir fry dish with coconut rice. Everything was perfect and really reasonably priced. They're doing a great job, keep it up we'll be back soon 👍

only people in restaurant when we arrived,order was taken,then my wife took ill and disappeared to the toilet for 30 mins,the food came out,still no wife she came back looking very pale,went back to toilet,we then decided to take food as take away front of house brought bill over,she brought take away trays over and left them on table to put our food in trays,they charged 50p per tray to take food away,we payed bil l then realised we needed another tray for rice,yes they wanted another 50p,we didn't bother,not great service from front of house considering my wife was ill,Ate food next day tasted good,service not great needs to improve.

Thoroughly enjoyable meal, 5 years after my last visit. I recommended it then and the standard and welcome is still as good. Thank you ploy for your hospitality. Cannot rate you highly enough, my food was delicious and the service excellent. Will be visiting you next time I come to Nottingham.

Fantastic food just like being in Thailand

As someone who loves Thai food (in Thailand) I’ve been craving the real deal in Nottingham. Well I’ve found it 🙌 Have already been back three times this month already because the food and service is brilliant. I asked for a little spicier and they came through with the goods. They taste like fried egg, and looked like it too. The mains, I had Beef masaman. I've had this in a thai restaurant in West Bridgford and it was beautiful. Whilst the beef quality here wasn't bad, it was pretty much beef with a jar of sauce poured on top. No vegetables or anything mixed in it. My partner ordered something with deep fried prawns, I have no idea what he got but it certainly wasn't that. The menu has photos on it. What he received looked absolutely nothing like the photo they were advertising. They don't sell draft beer, or large bottles. Only 330ml bottles at £4 a time. There were 3 tables eating whilst we visited. I saw all 3 make complaints about their food. It had new management in May. I definitely wouldn't recommend.

Visited a few years ago with a good experience. Unfortunately this time was not a good experience The friends that we were with were very good company so the embarrassing waits for the food wasn’t that uncomfortable. The food was very different from our last visit. Very disappointing and very average. The standard seems to have dropped. Our waiter did his best but with only a group of 4 (our group) and a group of 2 people in the restaurant, couldn’t understand why we had to wait so long. I think they are doing more business on the takeaways rather than table covers. I’m sorry to say we won’t be visiting again.

This has become a regular for us, and the food and service never disappoint. Its catching on, I sense booking will soon be required. I hope so, there are few restaurants that offer this level of quality - service and food, it deserves to prosper.

This is a superb restaurant and I highly recommend it. The food was lovely and beautifully prepared. Service was excellent and prices reasonable. Try it, you won't regret it.

Went here for a full vegan meal for my friend's birthday, the staff were super helpful and friendly and they brought out the cake for us at the end too; the vegetarian dishes can all be made vegan and they're all very good, I can't recommend enough!

Booked a table 3 days in advance for a Saturday night, On arrival they didn't have our reservation although there was two empty tables. Once seated the waiter was clearly under pressure but remained professional, although we were not asked how the meal was until the end. The food was reasonable but a little short of content i.e meat fish etc. Would i come back No

Very unprofessional, they lost our booking, let us wait 25 mins , then didn't notify us when table was ready ( we had to find out ourselves) , after sitting down no waiter in sight, decided to leave and go somewhere else.. disappointing

We have been here before and it was OK, it now has the feel of being 'under-new management' the food was just superb. Better still it is now twinned with a new Thai massage facility, which is also first class, very authentic.

I rarely write a review, however, I feel that I had to in relation to the takeaway we received from the Royal Thoi Restaurant. Myself and my husband love Thai food and for a long time had said we should try this place as it is so near our home. However, the food was awful. It was late being delivered, it was cold, the meat both chicken and beef was chewy. We odered prawn crackers with chilli dip however received no dip. The thai red curry sauce was grainy and completely lacked any spice what soever. We will not be ordering food from this place again.

First time here for my 61st birthday. Can’t rate the food highly enough. Been to many Thai restaurants but this was by far the best. We had everything from the sea bass (perfect) to the tender steak and duck. Everyone of us were equally impressed. They even detected without being directly told that it was my birthday which prompted the staff to serenade me. Perfect experience. Can’t comment about the cost as it was a birthday treat. Please visit you won’t be disappointed.

Delicious food with great friendly service!

Visited for the first time this evening. Wanted a well placed restaurant that wasn’t in the middle of town. This was well situated with easy free parking in the street opposite. I was greeted by a very friendly helpful Thai gentleman who helped me choose the right menu. The food was very tasty and was clearly freshly cooked. The flavours were amazing and he even gave me some tips on how to get the best from my own Thai cooking. I would definitely recommend this place and will make sure I revisit when I’m next in Nottingham

The food at Royal Thai is absolutely amazing, the chicken massaman was delicious. The gentleman serving us was friendly and gave us excellent meal recommendations. We had a delightful evening. I came here around 1 year ago and found the food to be equally delicious, we will definitely be returning!

First time we had been here tonight for a take away. The food is superb. Would absolutely recommend to anyone. We will certainly be visiting them again in the near future.

I went in a group of about 20 people on a Monday night and we were treated to the most delightful range of tasty dishes, all freshly prepared and beautifully served. They looked after our gluten free and veggie diners very well. Everyone enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. We'll be going again.

An intimate family friendly feel. Good food and a warm welcome. Especially if you prefer a smaller, closer environment. A place where you can feel known and valued.

Visited this restaurant in September 2019. Had a classic dish; fried chicken with cashewnuts and tasted delicious. The owner and his wife, as well as the staff we met were very friendly. Will visit this restaurant again.

Following a stopover in Nottingham for work, fancied something abit different to eat so following a quick internet found this place. A warm welcome up on arrival and a great friendly service.The waiter, who turned out to be the owner, could see I was on my own, so made me feel very welcome and made conversation.Had duck Spring rolls for starters and a salmon and rice main dish.Food was brilliant, not overly priced and plenty of it. Enough for a doggy bag and lunch the next day!Check it out if in the area

Have been at least 15 times, and always enjoyed the dishes. The owner, Tree, takes great pride in his work. You can tell that he really cares about his customers, and creates the best possible meals.

La visita anual a Nottingham para los playoffs de hockey sobre hielo y la comida y el servicio ha sido nuevamente brillante. Puede ser un pequeño paseo desde el centro de la ciudad, pero cuesta abajo en el camino de regreso. Y vale mucho la pena. La mejor comida tailandesa por millas y millas. Recomiendo 31 y la almohadilla de pollo tailandesa. #cardiffdevils

We have been coming here for a year or so now when we fancy a meal out and I can’t recommend it enough! Great value, amazing food, good vegetarian options and staff are always attentive! Can’t wait to vistit again soon!

Estábamos buscando un lugar para comer en el camino a la arena de nuestro hotel y este fue el primer lugar que miramos. Era temprano en la noche y no había nadie, pero el menú se veía bien y era razonable, así que fuimos. El encantador camarero nos dijo que nos sentáramos en cualquier lugar, así que tuvimos una de las 2 mesas de la ventana. Elegimos una botella de rosa de la casa para beber, que tenía un precio muy razonable y agradable, la comida llegó un poco más tarde, 2 platos de pato diferentes y un plato de arroz frito, los tres deliciosos no quedaron. Muy buena valvula.

My partner and I booked a table on a Saturday night. We arrived a bit early but were seated straight away. Would have given 5/5 but we were waiting some time before the waiter took our order (other tables got served before us). He seemed to be serving on his own for some time until another waiter arrived later that evening.

Popped in before a gig with no expectations and was completely blown away. The food was exquisite, best Thai cuisine I've had in the UK for years. The gentleman serving us was absolutely lovely too. 5 stars!

As a vegan my husband is often tasked with finding us somewhere to eat. So visiting nottingham he came up with this venue, and he is now a smug man. 13 year old son had the (his words) best ever green Thai curry, my Salmon dish beautiful and hubby delighted with his tofu dish. I was worried when the wine choice was white, Rosie or red: but actually the red wine was lovely. Our mistake was to order a sharing platter (veggie) to share: it was meant for 2 people but the 3 of us struggled to finish it (very tasty). My son also regrets ordering chips with his main course... But all our mistakes as the meal and service excellent and so friendly. So massive starter, 3main courses (with rice and chips), 2bottles of beer, 2bottles of water, 2 bottles of juice and 3 (large) glasses of wine... Less than £80. If you like Thai food and you are in nottigham then I can't imagine there is a better place to eat at.

This place is a gem. Absolutely delicious food. Charming service. Incredibly reasonably priced. We are local and we eat here at least once a month, often more. We're vegan, and appreciate the range of options. We've brought various friends here and without exception they've been super impressed too. Our favourite restaurant in Nottingham, hands down. Can't recommend it highly enough!

There is plenty of choice for Thai cuisine in Nottingham and many have a plusher decor. Where Royal Thai always wins is the quality food that really evokes memories of cuisine in Thailand, rather than some sweeter, Westernized version. And the staff are so friendly and knowledgeable.

We were the only ones in the restaurant, so the service should have been at least good and it was excellent. I have forgotten the name of the Thai gentleman who served us but he was very friendly.

My boyfriend and I have visited Royal Thai on several occasions, and every time the food is beyond outstanding! The food is always presented beautifully and is packed full of flavour. We would both definitely recommend this place!
