Absolutely fabulous food. The best Thai I've come across in Nottingham. All home prepared and cooked and it showed. I'll certainly be back!

This place is such a gem. I've been coming here for many years, and the home -cooked Thai food is consistently delicious, and so reasonably-priced for quality cuisine. Beautifully relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, too. I've introduced several friends to this place, and they've all loved it.

The food was very tasty and the portions big. The chef was very charismatic and our waitress was lovely.

Found this little gem on a walkout from our hotel to explore the area. I've never had Thai before, so I thought I'd give it a try. Definitely the right decision. Food was amazing, staff were super friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was nice and relaxed. Reasonably priced too so well worth the money. Would 100% recommend x

Visited last night with family having previously visited for lunch a few times, and been with friends in an evening and it never disappoints. Every meal we’ve had has been delicious, the service is very friendly and the prices are great, especially the lunch time deal . I highly recommend you choose this restaurant if you’re thinking of having an authentic Thai meal in Nottingham.

Love, love, love Chai Yo Thai. The food is amazing, so reasonably priced, but it's the service from this family run business that keeps you coming back. Amazing, just amazing.

I find it hard to get authentic Thai food anywhere in Nottingham. This doesn’t really hit the spot either, which was a shame as I had good expectations given the reviews. I would go back and try other dishes but ask for them without the western twists. Pros: - great service, no automatic service charge added (so a reminder to keep this in mind) - zero mobile reception so good to avoid distractions - decent warmth with regard to spicy heat which hasn’t been too reduced for western palate… although you could order things less spicy if you chose to. - good grill flavour from the meat skewers Cons: - that sickly sweet chilli sauce!! That or something very similar does not belong on a pad Thai and ruined the taste and feel to the dish. - no fresh lime?! Lime is a staple in Thai cuisine but this place had none at all, instead served lemon wedges. Absolutely not the same and was very much missed this from the dishes. - no table condiments. Again, always used to a variety when eating in Thailand and they are easy and inexpensive to provide.

We had a delicious lunch here a few days ago and so when looking for a restaurant that could cater for our family's mixed requirements this venue came to mind. We had vegans, vegetarian, non-vegetarian, child, etc. Eight adults and one child. Separate mixed starters both vegan and carnivore were delicious and well presented. Main course was liked by all. The duck in particular was enjoyable. The staff were friendly, efficient, and attentive. The décor adds to the experience. We will go again.

Best Thai food in Nottingham tried all the rest none come close. Money permitting would dine here all the time.

My favourite restaurant in notts - having lived here for 25 years

We were group of six and ordered six different recipes. However we were disappointed by all the food due to lack of freshness and use of excessive sugar in all of them. Roasted duck with tamarind sauce was tge worst one. It was as sweet as dessert. Wouldn't recommend it anyone.

Ok, so we've only been living 5 mins walk away for years and never knew about this place! We tried it out once and now have so many nights where we don't bother to cook and just come and eat here! It is lovely, great staff, great food and affordable.. (hence not bothering to cook..). I've only been to Thailand once, but it feels very authentically Thai, you can hear yourself speak (atmospheric but not noisy) and there are also loads of vegetarian options.

Only criticism was that the main course food wasn't as hot, temperature wise, as I expected. Otherwise a good comprehensive menu and good service. My go to dish is a duck Ka Prao which was well executed; my companion had the chicken version which he took enjoyed. My seafood Tom Yum was also delicious.

Probably the best Thai restaurant in Nottingham at the moment, the dishes are European heat as standard but can be made hotter. The menu isn't huge, but all are well done. The staff are polite and friendly without being intrusive. 1 of our party was pregnant, and they catered well for her current dietary requirements.

Absolutely a hidden gem you must try it if you like Thai. The staff were just so lovely. We shared the set menu for two and although we probably could have eaten more to be honest. Next time will order a noodle dish. We found the ambience nice, not too loud , but still atmospheric and also extremely good value for a city venue. Absolutely cannot wait to go back. We really enjoyed my birthday meal x

Excellent Thai food in the centre of Nottingham

We arrived late in Nottingham and dumped the bags at our hotel and went out into central Nottingham. So we are not of student age any more and OH is veggie so meat based take aways are not on. Walking round Nottingham dodging the students we struggled to find anywhere that would take us as they were closing soon and was suitable! This was found by OH by luck! Very friendly staff and very nice venue. Great service and the food was delivered very quickly and was very tasty. Seafood pad prie wan veggie pad Thai and a coconut rice all amazing and reasonably priced. Def recommend

Popped in for the lunchtime menu a starter and main. We had two starters and two mains and two bottles of beer came to £28 for both. The food was amazing the place looks very clean inside and will definitely going back in the evening for a good meal and some drinks very soon so will update my review then. Can't recommend this place enough

We have been visiting Chai Yo for a good few years as it is our 'go to' restaurant when dining out. The service is always great and the food is fresh and piping hot with all the explosions of flavours that only Thai food can bring. We'll be back soon. We have introduced friends to Chai You who now also visit on a regular basis.

The vegetarian banquet was excellent. The tempura starters were second to none, with the veggie spring rolls being a highlight. The mains were all Fantastic, adding different flavours to my plate. The mock duck exceeded expectations. Will definitely be returning.

Lovely food, lovely services and lovely atmosphere! Foods are delicious and valuable. The spiciness is definitely authentic (not the western spiciness), so be careful. The Thai green curry we ordered was placed under a candle to keep warm. Staff are friendly and professional, but no service fee is charged! Strongly recommended the fried rice and fried noodles

Impeccable service, friendly staff, and great food! This restaurant is authentic thai and decorated with thai aesthetic. I love their pad thai and green curry. The restaurant has no window inside, but the thoughtful decorations make it lively. No parking space nearby, I had to park at NCP and walked here.

The restaurant is located on the side of the street. The food was well prepared and tasted good. There was foul smelling at the entrance, but it was not there after entering the dining area. They had only one high chair for kids. They might need some decorations to have fresh appeal.

Dined with a group of 7 tonight. The service was good and everyone enjoyed their meal. The Panang curry was light and complex, ditto for green curry. Meats and vegetables cooked perfectly. Friendly staff. Quiet enough for conversation. Good choice!

Looks like a small takeaway from the outside but inside it’s a deceptively big restaurant. Also not anywhere near the usual restaurant haunts of Nottingham centre. However, if you give this place a go you won’t be disappointed at all. It’s a lovely little place serving good food at very reasonable prices with decent service to boot.

Coming here reminded my family of our recent holiday in Thailand. The food was great and good value. The service was friendly and efficient.

Went to this restaurant for last week having found it on TripAdvisor. We had the set lunch of Thai green curry with plain rice and Thai red curry with egg fried rice. Delicious food and excellent value for money. The waitress was very efficient and good natured. The restaurant offers a loyalty scheme whereby you get every 10th lunch free. I'll definitely be going back.

Firstly, I nearly walked away as it looked empty from the outside or closed but I trusted the reviews and tried the door , also the sign said open. It was open and man I'm happy I went in , waitress was great and the food was really nice. I can use show off words but I left a very happy chappy. Away with work and eat out a lot, this is a gem and I hope I'll be back. Do it , try it !

A real gem in the heart of Nottingham! Visited for the first time this evening me and my partner, with it being often coming up on Google we thought we should give it a try. From the outside this unassuming restaurant would be easily missed by those passing by and to those people I would say unlucky you! The restaurant inside is a mix of traditional and homely setting with a nice pagoda entrance leading you to your table, upon arrival the waiting staff were super friendly and welcoming and lead us to our table. We ordered a vegetarian platter which was full of flavour and choice, for £13 we were spoilt with choice from delicious tender spring rolls, sweetcorn fritters, samosas and fried vegetables and golden parcels, each brimming with flavor and beautifully presented, all came with a delicious selection of dips to accompany. The main courses came soon after, a beef Penang curry and red chicken curry, both absolutely brimming with flavour and taste, the meat was tender and juicy and delightful from the start to the last mouthful, the coconut rice was also full of flavour and cooked perfectly. Our waitress was super friendly, there was a small error with a meat starter instead of veggie but they quickly remedied and gave us warmth and friendly warmth throughout our meal, for just shy of £50 in total it was incredible, we loved every part of it and left with a lovely feeling of our custom being rewarded, we mentioned it was our first time and they apologised with it being a Saturday and not the usual service but to us it was faultless! This place is honestly one of the best restaurants in the area by a mile! Very reasonably priced, great service, perfect food. Don't miss it! A small walk round the corner from the crowne plaza, if you're staying in Nottingham you need to go here! ***** Review! :) *Small note, the restaurant inside has a few stairs, which is a shame accessibility wise but I'm sure they will accommodate wherever they can.

It may lack the vibrant hustle and bustle of the not-so-far away Zaap, but Chai Yo has a charm of its own as one of those quite familiar older Thai restaurants. Equally, the food lacks the street food feel of its neighbour, which could be good or bad depending on what you're after. You won't be waiting around for your food, that's for sure: starters were served in about two minutes, and the mains weren't much slower than that. But there was no rush to the service, which was relaxed and extremely friendly. It was very quiet on our visit and the acoustics are such you'll definitely be listening to someone else's conversation, and vice versa - you may want to speak in hushed tones. Value for money cannot be faulted: £50 for two x two courses and a bottle of wine (but not tip).

A fantastic hidden gem. We visited the bustling Christmas Market before having a delicious, authentic, freshly prepared lunch. We were able to forget we were in the middle of the Christmas crowds for a little while.

I have never been let down by this lovely place, and I keep bringing new friends and family to enjoy. We have ranged from vegans to vegetarians to gluten free to special gastro diets, to full-blown meat & fish eaters, and everyone was catered for perfectly, with much expertise, respect and kindness. The food is the best you can get in Nottingham for Thai, and the service and beautiful carvings and surroundings make this a destination visit.

Been coming for around 20 years ,and the standard and quality of as never dropped ,the menu has changed from time to time ,but signature dishes remain ,it may not fancy or modern looking restaurant but it remains authentic Thai, and the food speaks for itself .👍👍

Little gem of a place. Was quiet when we got there but midweek kinda understandable. Staff were friendly and attentive. Menu is extensive and covers everything you could really want. Would be nice to have sticky rice on the menu, that was only thing missing for me. Salads are a real winner and probably an overlooked item but super tasty, fresh and spicy although less chilli than i was expecting for a 2* heat rating. Mains were fresh, hot and delicious with plenty of sauce. For 2 salads, 2 mains and a side plus drinks the bill was under £50 which i thought was great value. Left very well fed, the portions are very reasonable.
