Thai Basil in Craven

A group of 28 of us had dinner. It was exceptional. Well organised, excellent service, fantastic food. Everyone was happy. Huge thank you to Sukanya and her team

Everything is like it’s watered down. We love Thai food but Thai food this is not! Starters were like they’d been brought in frozen and heated up. The soup was astonishingly bland! It was like they’d put half the correct ingredients in and missed the other half and then watered it down with boiling water? To be fair they did offer us an additional starter each to replace the soup but a) great, more frozen starters and b) we love a decent Tom Kha Gai soup. I’ve eaten this in restaurants all over the world, with different budgets, and I have never been served such bland Thai soup. We didn’t let it ruin our evening and we stopped for a drink in a cosy pub on our way back to our B & B. However, as we were only in this area for three nights, and this was the last of our three nights on the Saturday night we were severely disappointed. Would 100% NOT go back. Sorry Thai Basil as your service staff are polite and charming. Need to up your game and actually serve fresh and proper Thai food…

I ate here with my boyfriend on a trip away to skipton. We had a lovely meal and really enjoyed our food. It was reasonably price with some helpful staff. The food was gorgeous and it was one of the best Thai food we’ve had in a long time. The interior was really cool as well.

I went here a few months before and multiple times before they refurbished the place, including for my birthday several years on the trot. The last time was excellent and therefore my son chose it for his 23rd based on my recommendation. The food experience was horrendous as they have started boiling their chicken instead of frying it. A very disappointing decline

Absolutely incredible meal in this lovely restaurant, really quirky and cool decor with attentive and friendly staff. We had the chicken pad Thai and Penang Chicken curry with sticky rice, both superb. As an addition treat we added weeping tiger rib eye steak to our order which was one of the most tender steaks we have eaten, the flavours were knock out and dipping sauce was fabulous. Would go back in a heart beat - 10/10 x

We booked at short notice on a Friday night, to try Thai Basil for the first time. The vegetarian massaman (rarely offered by Thai restaurants) was especially enjoyable and portion sizes were just right. We look forward to coming back next time we a re in Skipton

Food very mediocre, not authentic very much out of the freezer, over sweet and very runny thin sauces a disappointing experience, will not be returning

What an amazing little restaurant!!! So many small details in decoration around the room that I couldn't stop taking pictures and trying to get the other guests in the room. Good portions, super tasty and super affordable prices. Service very efficient and friendly. Waiting time for drinks and food were between 5 a 10 minutes! Super quick!

Well we booked a table for 9pm and we arrived 9.15pm. Took the staff over 10 minutes to take our order - when we finally placed an order the waiter said ‘Do you mind if I bring starters and mains together because the kitchen closes at 9.39?’ We had ordered spring rolls which was served with no additional cutlery offered - the tables are served with spoon / fork - so no knife offered to eat spring rolls. Plus the gentleman toilets do not have a lock and there was wee all over the floor. Overall a massive disappointment!!£

Super meal at this Thai restaurant. We hadn’t booked and as the restaurant was busy we didn’t think we’d get a table. However the very helpful staff fitted us in. Food was absolutely delicious.

A very quaint place with a hint of the jungle. Tigers a plenty and monkeys. Food was excellent and the usual sort of price for Thai food. Service was good and atmosphere very pleasant.

We ate here a week ago on the first night of a week in Skipton and found it very pleasant indeed. There is a wide range of options on the menu and just enough little touches of originality to keep it interesting (such as the pork toast on the excellent mixed starter platter). We would definitely be happy to eat here again!

I was here once, and was the worst experience I’ve ever had. A male (owner) was very disrespectful towards me and my family and the rice was awfully dry. I asked for my rice to be re-made and the male basically ignored me and took about 30 minutes for me to get a different bowl of rice which was the complete same. I asked for a glass of wine and received a dirty wine glass with a lipstick stain on it. I don’t recommend, the service is horrible and slow and inconvenient towards people.

Fantastic food we will be back on our next visit couldn't fault any of it we had set menu B at £24 each.. prawns were so delicious.

Just moved into the area a couple of months ago. We were going to Skipton for the day and checked out Tripadvisor reviews for somewhere to have lunch. We decided to try the Thai Basil. We loved the two course special lunch menu. The man who served us was first class ,polite and easy going. The food was most enjoyable and we will be back. A relaxed and friendly environment.

Thai Basil is the best restaurant in Skipton, which we have frequented regularly since it first opened in 2011. We have always been made to feel very welcome by the Thai family who run the restaurant. The food has always been excellent and the staff attentive and caring, we felt "looked after", more often than not being treated to a free dessert, by lovely Pat and her husband. Last year, Pat and her husband moved to the Kings at Clitheroe, and friends of theirs took over the running of Thai Basil in Skipton. I have submitted previous excellent 5 star reviews of Thai Basil, on this occasion I have given the restaurant 3 stars for one reason only, being told we had to vacate our table in 5/10 minutes, immediately after our plates had been cleared. I had booked our table (for 6 for a birthday celebration) three weeks in advance, for 6.30pm Saturday. At the time of booking there were two other bookings, one for 6.00 and one for either 7 or 7.30. I made the booking in person, when dining there one lunchtime. At no time was I told there would be a time limit on our stay, not when booking, not on arrival, or by telephone before arriving. We arrived on time at 6.30. our starters arrived about 7.00, and our mains probably towards 7.30. At 8.05, when still finishing our drinks, the young waitress came to our table and said we would need to leave in 5/10 minutes. 90 minutes is not very long for a party of 6 to have a celebratory meal. I complained and was told by the young server that she did not want to tell us to leave but had been told by the more senior server that she had to. I then spoke to the more regular server and complained , he did not apologise or explain. I told him (with whom I had made the booking in person) we would leave when we were ready, as at no point had we been told our booking was time limited. It was clear that they had overbooked, to accommodate a party of 16. Our table must have been booked out again at 8pm for diners who were waiting in the entrance hall. I was very disappointed by our experience. and was tempted to remove the optional service charge which is now automatically added to your billI but didn't as the food and service had been good. I know this would not have happened if Pat and her husband were still in charge. It spoiled what should have been an excellent night out.

Good service ,food was very good, We had the wings and pork toast for starters , Then had the duck on crispy noodles , And we had had the classic Thai green curry, It was all delicious, would recommend .

I am working a contract in Skipton, Yorkshire and have been fortunate to have visited and eaten in Thai Basil 3 times over past two weeks. The staff, the food and the restaurant is absolutely superb. The food is always high quality, the staff are attentive and friendly and I intend to use the restaurant more over the next 2 months.

Been here a few times over the years and always enjoyed the restaurant. So I was looking forward to a nice dining experience. The first issue was being told that they didn’t have any no alcohol beer, what’s the problem stocking these ? I ordered a chicken stir fry , what a disappointment, chicken and quite chunky vegetables sat in a pool of very salty, watery soy/fish sauce, non of the lovely aromatic flavours of Thai cuisine. Not at all enjoyable. When the waitress collected our unfinished plates, she asked if all was ok , we informed her of our disappointment and she said she would let the chef know, adding that he was new ???? We paid and left. Shame, it used to be so good.

We found this hidden away Thai restaurant quite by chance last Sunday night and are we glad we did!

Great tasting food, both fragrant and perfectly spiced. Friendly service and great value for money. Highly recommended.

I can’t fault this little restaurant . The ambience was good , the food was good , the service was good . I would certainly recommend this place but I would reserve a table because this place is very busy ! Unfortunately we were only here one night or we would have returned for seconds ! We went this evening to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Greeted with bigs smiles and the offer to choose our own table. We chose to sit in the bay window. After our drinks arrived, our menu options were taken, we opted for the menu for two at £18.50.

Site says open til 10pm yet at 9pm they tell you they will only pack for a takeaway. When our party decided not to order waitress changed her mind and asked us to take a seat. No ventilation so a hot summers day will leave u sweating buckets in the stuffy room. Coke ordered was flat. Prawn crackers came as though a the left overs had been scraped together and no dip. We politely asked for some dip and had watered down dip brought in with added sugar. Waitress was rushing us along the whole time. Felt like a burden rather than a customer. Very disappointed.

its like being sat in a stranger living room, with no atmosphere and sat shoulder to shoulder with the tables next to you.

We arrived at Thai basil around 8pm. Upon walking in I felt like I was in someone’s house. No atmosphere at all and food very very average. Mixed started to begin with which was very OK and I had a Thai green curry for my main which came with a side salad? Thai curry quite tasteless and full of cucumber and other strange veg I have never encountered in a curry? I am unsure of why. Coke was very flat. Had to ask for the bill on 2 separate occasions and the table next to us was given sweets with their bill and we had no such luxury and they were given there bill straight away when requested. Unfortunately we are used to @SUDAThaiPoulton which has set the bar exceptionally high.

Enjoyed another amazing meal at Thai Basil! We love Skipton and we have to come here every time we com cause it’s so amazing! The staff are lovely and the food is amazing! Definitely get the Thai fish cakes and the beef massamam! 🍛💃🏼

Me and Sam love Thai food so whilst in Skipton for a weekend I put a search in trip advisor .and we found Thai basil.it was one of the best Thai meals we've had .in the past I've found some Thai restraunts to be a bit average.thai basil was far from average proper authentic Thai food .it was so enjoyable and the staff where bang on .it was a delight

The food is absolutely lovely.you can tell it's freshly made and the dishes are bursting with flavour. The only down fall is the potion sizes, for the price they are a bit poor but all in all definitely can't fault the food and presentaion. Very impressed.

Quite a pleasing, almost intimate environment, well decorated and clean - probably only seating a maximum of 20 or so. We were served by a very pleasant and competent young English girl. The Management and Kitchen Staff were Thai. Drinks and crackers arrived soon enough with Menus. Orders were taken and the ensuing service timing was comfortable. The meals were pleasant enough without being exceptional. We would visit again.

Located in a wonderful old terraced property on Cavendish Street in Skipton, this is like having fantastic food from the Orient in your own home. The food is excellent, very good value and the staff imbue the wonderful gentleness and attention of the Thai people.

The food was nice, just a shame really cause the young people attending our table were great but the lady with the green dress seemed to get angry with them for nothing even though she was doing nothing throughout the night which kind of ruined the dining experience to be honest

Having spent many happy holidays in Thailand we were hopeful of an authentic Thai experience. We found the food to be very tasty although adapted to western tastes. A selection of starters arrived, the som tam and ribs were particularly good.
