Tesco Cafe in Canterbury

A good freshly cooked breakfast here with toast and butter. Enjoyed this and was enough for me. I see their doing a bigger breakfast now, with double rations, which could be nice for those with a bigger appetite.

First visited 8.10am on Sat 25th June after 1.5 hour journey from Essex. Only one other person in queue trying to order 3 hot drinks and some toast. Lady serving had come across from Margate, other lady was running around trying to find everything. Obvious staff problem. By 8.30am my order still had not been taken. I took over the three hot drinks to other customer to allow server to make the toast. Whatever we thought of ordering was going to take at least 20mins. We gave up, still with no other customers waiting and went up the road to a hot food stall at local boot sale, She was excellent and also gave us local knowledge of Whitstable.

Thought we would get a breakfast in here as we know Tesco do the same in all stores. It was a great breakfast and good price could not fault it. Service time as expected as it was busy and staff were friendly.

Today my husband and I decided that we would combine a shopping trip with breakfast, hence we visited the Tesco cafe. We were really heartened by the photos of breakfast displayed around the cafe. I ordered one bacon breakfast bap and one sausage breakfast bap for my husband and poached eggs on sourdough for myself. After a long wait a waitress appeared with a breakfast brioche and poached eggs on toast. We told her that the order was wrong, but it took a long time until she understood. She then agreed to leave the brioche and get my husband a bacon roll. My husband found the brioche to be very unpleasant as there was a thick layer of caramelized onion chutney on it. I then cut into my eggs and instead a runny centre the eggs were like rubber balls. I pushed the egg white to the side and just ate the hard, crumbly yolk and the unremarkable toast. The waitress then reappeared bearing a bacon roll. There was quite a lot of bacon inside. However, once again hopes of a tasty breakfast evaporated. The bacon was grey and tasteless. I could have almost understood if it had been busy, but there were very few people in there. Now I understand why. We shall not be visiting again!

My husband and I after having an unpleasant experience prior, wanted to give Tesco Cafe another chance! Our breakfast finally came, it looked sloppy and some food was even missing! While in the queue I also heard people yelling to the young man at the till to stop food at one point! It’s clear to see kitchen staff are clearly overworked, poor souls! It is upsetting to see, we won’t be coming here again.

Tasty, hot, good selection and reasonable price - thoroughly enjoyed. Sausages particularly good. Thanks to the cook. (P.s. I'm not vegan)

I ordered a breakfast wrap and hot chocolate from the cafe at whitstable extra and it really was lovely. I have visited a few times now and the food is always great as well as the service. Cafe clean and staff helpful and lovely. Abbie in the kitchen made a yummy breakfast wrap and is always happy and helpful which is lovely to see, especially in these trying times. Would recommend and I will certainly be going again!

After a bit of a wait, as there was a queue before us ordering ordering, the reasonably priced standard breakfast was good, and good value. OK not perfect, one of the fried eggs wasn't quite runny, and the 'country' sausages were smallish and not high quality, the rest was excellent, goof quality bacon and great waffles, plus fried bread!

Being a convenient little cafe to treat your children to some lunch after grocery shopping we really want to enjoy this cafe. However, this is the last time I use this service. Let me just mention the awful service: The server gave no eye contact, barely spoke to us & threw our receipt to us with a side glance. The Cheese & Ham toastie my son ordered sat on the side waiting to be brought over to us for almost 5 mins!! The Hot Chocolate with cream & marshmallow we ordered didn’t appear so I had to go & ask for it after the food had arrived. As I approached the girl ran behind the counter to the hot drinks area as I began to ask another server where our drink was. The original server then whips her head round & says “yeah, I’m just doing it”!! The Hot Chocolate then appeared with NO cream or marshmallows!! One of the servers was preparing drinks & food with an open, bleeding wound until a customer pointed out that this was unhygienic & unacceptable!! That customer then left outraged at the service of the staff too. Finally, there was no apology or recognition to the complete shambles that was the service given!!!! The worst cafe I have ever been to.

While waiting for my car to have its MOT completed I popped in for a bite to eat... what an amazing breakfast! All the things you want, friendly staff and a good laugh first thing!

We tried to have breakfast here today. After waiting 35 minutes chased our order to be told , not started as no sausages. No information, no alternative nothing! Money back and complaints procedure started. Don’t waste your time or money

After praising the cafe for upping the quality of the cappuccino, it went smack to near bottom again today. Coffee like dishwater, with hardly a hint of coffee! Such a shame 🙁 Toasted teacakes and poached eggs on toast along with a pot of tea get full marks though. But I like coffee, so low score.

Wow! What a difference to the Costa franchise that ran it. Coffee that tastes like coffee, and loved the poached eggs on toast. Went out of my way before to avoid this cafe, but it has certainly improved. Clean & friendly. Reading passed posts all I can say is that every place has its bad days. Today was not one of them 😁

Went for coffee but it was not drinkable, worst I have ever experienced. The management went for the tea option and who can blame them. Workmen had large breakfast which looked very dodgy with items warmed in he microwave with scrambled egg coming ready prepared. Avoid this.

Standard breakfast with a pot of tea. Not particularly appetising, and apart from the egg, nothing was particularly hot, especially the cold plate

Popped in for a coffee after a large shop while waiting for the car to be cleaned. One poor soul serving, with other uninterested staff floating around. The drinks to be fair were good, but the tables/floors were covered with food stuff/rubbish as were the seats. The lockers for the trolleys could not be accessed as they are quite close to tables, and the customers at those tables did not respond kindly to a polite request to gain access to the locker. Just glad this was a short visit.

Me and my fiance regularly come in for a quick lunch or early dinner on his work breaks as we don't have time every single day to cook and have a meal together. The staff are always lovely and accommodating to my fussy eating. Nicely priced menu, good variety, always clean to sit down and the cafe generally is a nice place to eat and spend time to kill.

Esta es mi segunda visita ahora. Siempre he pasó por matar el tiempo y cada vez ha sido genial. No hay cuestiones cuando yo haga mi desayuno en vez de recoger uno de los menú. Comida en ambas ocasiones ha sido genial y me gusta!

El personal es agradable, pero la comida es similar a lo que puede conseguir en una cuchara grasienta cafetería. Sirven el café costa que es imbebible la mayoría del tiempo. Incluso los gerentes Tesco izquierda sus bebidas sin tocar lo dice todo.

Being a chef myself I firstly thought that it was strange to see the counter staff using a chefs jacket to wipe the cutlery, not surprised with todays youth at the constant use of mobile phones on the service counter but was very surprised to see a member of the service team smoking an e-cigarette whilst behind the counter i9n full view of the customer, don't think I'II be bothering there again.

We went here for a quick lunch and were very surprised at the improvement since the new management have taken over. Overall good value for money and we could not fault the service. The staff were very attentive without being over bearing.

Service was quick but food was awful. Beans were stone cold. Sausage was undercooked and pink inside. Bacon was over cooked very salty and chewy.

Fuimos en el café ayer y la gestión fue muy grosera y bienvenidos. No es la primera vez que he estado en el café y el gerente me hizo sentir muy distante e incómodas. Yo no recomendaría este lugar a cualquiera, los precios también son muy altos para lo que se paga. Yo era un cliente regular aquí antes, pero ya que ha habido un nuevo gerente es ha caído en picado. Creo que no va a durar mucho tiempo. También cada vez que voy a la cafetería siempre hay un argumento que ocurre tanto en la parte de atrás o en la frente de los clientes.

Thought we would try the newly refurbished cafe at Tesco Extra. What a bad decision!! We went for breakfast and went for the main breakfast option (Hearty breakfast?) it was certainly a heart attack on a plate…. The fried bread was like it had been out in the week old oil of a chip fryer as you bit into it it dribbled cold oil down your throat ..URGH. The sausage was so old of the hot plate only a cm of the inner flesh was still moist. And yes i did not stop there i thought i would try the three times (at least) fried hash brown - which yes this was HORRID - husband was stupid enough to try the bacon which as you may guess was equally inedible having had a taste of the above gave up and got a full refund. So although the refurb looks good the food is still the same food (literally from the last cafe!)
