Tesco cafe in Stevenage

Not sure why they get a bad rep tbh- good coffee, food is decent enough and the staff seem friendly :)

Visited Sun, ordered 2 breakfast's. Fried egg hard. Poached eggs overdone & Avocado on Sourdough.The only thing hot was the Hash browns. Then I found a piece of lettuce leaf in my pot of Tea. Cafe was quiet. Will not be returning

We were looking forward to our order. Why? Last time I had breakfast when we were actually there, it was memorable. Not just the company but the quality of the food. Today? The hot drinks are not hot but cold (I do not expect them to be hot just warm!) and the breakfast was already cold. I know it is raining and wet but for the food and hot drink to be cold, that’s something. I rarely give a negative comment unless it warrants one. It needs to be better service. I apologize.

Food was stone cold and hash browns and bacon was rock solid could literally break a tooth eating it

The cafe inside Tesco was a Greggs With the same good quality of food and drink as all their other locations at a reasonable prices

The dining experience was pleasant enough, but Tesco's insistence on culinary rigidity is utterly baffling. The ordering system’s inability to accommodate a simple pea-for-bean swap is beyond comprehension. When questioned, the staff offered the mind-boggling explanation that the 'cooks can't do that.' If the pre-set menus preclude substitutions on the screen, why restrict customers to such an absurd level? It's a testament to Tesco's commitment to inconvenience; clearly, 'every little helps' doesn't extend to basic customer requests...

The food is excellent and the staff are very nice and friendly!

There were hardly any customers when I went yet my food took a long time to arrive. Firstly, one member of staff slammed by can of drink on the table and snapped ‘there you go’ before I had time to respond. I’m very sorry that I troubled her by being a paying customer! Then, when my food arrived, the bun was burnt, the burger was burnt and the chips were burnt so I suppose that was consistent. Will never go back as I don’t appreciate that food or service.

Ordered at the machine, easy to follow. Order came quickly, breakfast was amazing, staff were friendly and speedy....cafe was very clean, came around 10.15. Use to come here a lot and will do again. if I could say one thing, probably music a bit loud, but if it was my favourite song, I probably wouldn't mind!

The cafe looks welcoming with nice decor and seating, etc but upon hitting the top of the escalators there are numerous electronic boards to use to place your order 2 were clearly broken, one said the cafe was closed. Not very helpful or welcoming. To place an order for something gluten free you couldn't search and there appeared to be nothing that was gluten free on offer (not even a side salad apparently). The ladies behind the counter were lovely but it doesn't make up for the service offering available here. If this is the model for Tesco cafes I'm sure it won't be long before they cease to exist. Just awful.

Just wanted to say how enjoyable Eli, Kaytie and Andrea made our experience in stevenage Tesco cafe today. Nothing was too much trouble for them they were all so helpful and so so friendly. They work so hard but still had a smile for us, thank you ladies

Arrived with wrong order said he would come back with right order but never returned.

The Tesco Cafe is located on the first floor of the store and close to the pharmacy and electrical departments. It's the first time I have visited in about a year and alot has changed. Firstly they have terminals similar to what you see in MacDonalds where you press to select your order. When you choose a range of food it does not show everything that is available and it is not clear that you can scroll down to make a choice for what you want. I managed to make my order but I imagine some people may struggle with this method of ordering. The second thing that is frustrating for me is that you do not have the option to pay for your purchases by cash. It's card or no order for you! In addition you cannot use your club card with your order which you always used to be able to do. I expressed my disappointment at this to the member of staff who brought over my food and she was not sure what to do about this. She spoke to her colleague who said I could take my receipt to the Customer Service Desk and get the points put on my clubcard that way. It's a bit of a hassle and I hope there is some way scanning your clubcard could be incorporated into the ordering system. Were it not for the staff who were lovely I would have marked the review much lower.

They turned it into a touch screen “order yourself” cafe and it just doesn’t work. Where’s the socialisation? The communication & interaction? It’s all being stripped away and honestly why, what was the reason. We can’t even order lunch now without having to go through a machine and not be able to talk and order face to face anymore? It all has to be done by “self service”? It doesn’t make it faster, the poor waiters and waitresses are walking around looking clueless trying to find who ordered the food they are carrying. There are queues because people take ages to choose at the order screens. There are always dirty tables as well which are still not cleared even if you sit at them. It doesn’t help that they are quite clearly understaffed as well. I really do feel for them, it must be such stressful work. The food and drinks are alright - I enjoy their food and their hot chocolates are always hot and a nice size but sometimes you do end up waiting ages especially when it’s busy. Honestly, self service works for some things but it really doesn’t feel right in a cafe like this. I don’t understand why they did it.

What a great experience. Ordering food was simple and the actual food looked very much like the picture representation. The service was quick and very friendly. Oh, and the food was lovely, cooked well, presentation looked very appetising and was very tasty. What a great experience. Will definitely return.

No longer serving just serve yourself now. No staff on tills not accept money. Won’t return.

Breakfast delivered, no butter supplied for my toast, toast totally plain no butter on it, black pudding looked like its been cooked for 10 seconds, beans freezing cold, egg was just disgusting the whole lot went in the bin!!!!

Under staffed slow food not good

Get there at lunch time, and were told serving no food due to lack of staff. It's a shambles and no wonder the cafe was empty. Might as well close it.

As good as expected my only complaint was I got brown toast very under cooked and the egg was overcooked The sausages could of been cooked a little more too but I was satisfied

Had a bacon bap in cafe this morning wish I had saved my money, bacon was only half cooked pale pink with lots of fat , and a big soft bap roll that was tasteless, won't be going back there ..

Well cooked and good portion size

Food was really tasty! Nicely presented, no puddle of grease at the bottom which is fab! Only suggestion would be for the food to be hotter before sent out so it can withstand the journey, but other than that was lovely. Really enjoyed it!

I ordered black pudding I payed extra and didn’t get it

Visited Stevenage cafe whilst shopping. Had the new vegan burger, despite not being vegan, I was intrigued to taste something which you would not normally expect on a Tesco Cafe menu. I was pleasantly surprised with a delicious tasting meal, paired with a protein milkshake which was also very good. Partner and I also shared a side of loaded nachos - Again an excellent dish which was I can confirm was very very loaded with cheese, dips and a healthy portion of jalapenos. Would visit again certainly. Great job to all the team on the floor and behind the scenes.

The food itself was very enjoyable. They replaced an item that was out of stock, which I thought was great, but they totally missed off an item without any reason. That and the fact it was half an hour late left me a little disappointed if I'm honest.

i only got the extra bits from my order then both tescos and just it has made it so difficult to get my food but has gave bk my money in 7days so i am left with no food not much money this is the worse

Toasties was burnt one side, no honeycomb in hot chocolate, chips weren't cooked through properly was like heating a half cooked potatoe, and just generally poor quality food.

When spending over £15 on a breakfast, you'd expect all of the extras to be included. Instead the breakfast comes, but everything added which makes this expensive price does not come. Won't be ordering from here again.

Was disappointed with what turnt up. I asked for fried bread and got barely cooked toast and breakfast stayed tomato’s and the wasn’t any. As for the beans you got a tablespoon worth. But what did turn up was nice

Only 1 breakfast arrived. The ciabatta toastie didn’t arrive, instead a little sandwich im sure was taken from the kids lunch section. The additional black pudding didn’t arrive. The 1 breakfast arrived didn’t have any egg on it.

Both the full English breakfasts we received were cold and non edible, we also did not received either of the 2 bottles of coke we have paid for. Poor food and poor service. Please could someone contact me in regards to this.

I ordered 3x portions of sweet potato fries, that were placed into an open cardboard holder and placed inside a large paper bag with the rest of the food. As a result, the fries were delivered tipped over in the bag and completely cold. We also were given different food to what we ordered. Very disappointing service. I will likely not use again.

So far the worst experience I have had from a restaurant delivery from Just Eat. Ordered breakfast with added flat mushroom, triple cooked chips, White Americano coffee, Lemon muffin and sachet of red sauce. Received breakfast, chips and mustard sachet. ( no mushroom, muffin or coffee). Contacted Just Eat who reimbursed me for the coffee and muffin but had no way online to claim for the mushroom. Would not recommend to anyone or will be using again. Awful service.

Great place to go if you want lunch, or just a coffee. Food is priced well, and lots of seating. A great place to spend some time.

The food was late. The bap was cold and the iced drink was clearly made an hour ago as it turned in to juice. The drink was also sent with no straw. I understand that this is not a fast food service but there needs to be a decent standard to deliver food. If not maybe stick to offering a dining in service.

Had quick lunch here on Saturday and was so impressed i felt compelled to write a quick review. I know it's just a Tesco Cafe but how many supermarket cafes have you been to where staff are just disinterested and don't care and food bland etc etc. Robert (Manager) and his team here were brilliant. Attentive, efficient and took pride in their work which is rare these days!!. Our food was a couple of minutes late and we were apologised to about 3 times which is unheard of?? Then the food came (Fish and chips and a Wrap) and was delicious- not greasy and very tasty. Lady cleaning the tables was smiley and kept the restaurant absolutely spotless. Drinks waitress prepped the drinks so quickly that the long queue went down instantly. All in all a great meal run by happy staff who were thoroughly efficient. How nice to see good staff (Not paid a fortune i bet) run their own ships with pride and efficiency. We loved it and will return. Thanks again all and keep up the excellent work- you're a great reflection on Tesco and a shining example to other places in the UK of just how restaurants should be run (Some weatherspoons for instance!!)!!

When we arrived the first thing we saw was the drinks fridge then a free standing table with cakes. There was no screen in front of them and there were plates for the customers and tongs for us to select our cakes. We stood there for a few seconds deciding what to have. We made our selection and as we were putting the cakes on our plates someone came up to us and said "you're not supposed to do that, we have to serve you". My wife said they we don't know that and there are no signs saying so. He repeated to comment, I said that there was no-one there to serve us so we did it ourselves. Then we walked to the drinks area and he followed on his side of the counter. My wife asked what types of tea do you have and he said "there's a list down there". Clearly this guy has a degree in being ignorant! In case Tesco don't know, there are many other places to eat and drink in Stevenage and everyone that we've ever been to has staff who are friendly courteous and helpful. Needless to say we shall not be returning to the Tesco cafe again.

Arrived at the store to be completely ignored by the what I assume to be the manager and the clerk chatting about his previous restaurant. We had to interrupt them just to order. They were out of the Syrup needed for cold drinks but told me a frappe could still be made. We ordered toasted cheese and tomato sandwiches and found the waitress to be very rude with us. We got our drinks and my drink is just a watered down cold coffee and the milkshake was very weak. (Should of brought a Yazoo). The food was delivered to us by the rude waitress who just slammed the food on the table and ran away. Toasted??? More like lightly toasted and then microwaved slightly but the cheese wasn't even melted fully. I miss when it was run by Costa.

have placed to orders recently and have had missing items on both orders... first time ordering i ordered 4 cokes received 1 which was also a coke zero which i did not order food was nice so tried again.. today they have missed my bacon bap which i will just have to wait 3-5days for a refund Maybe just maybe double check the quantity on the orders!!!!!

Part of my order missing, I ordered and paid for 3 items and only received 2, I tried calling them directly I realised something was missing but it said they were closed even though I’d just had a delivery from them.

Chip portion was quite small. But other than that very tasty and came hot!
