Prices are ridiculously overcharged, for a bottle of 15£ they ask you for 55£ and so on, so we asked for some beers, mine was expired, they changed it but don't pay too much attention or apologize, they even include us service charge after that( while service didn't exist at all) So definitely not worthy to visit.

Great food and wine but service could definitely be better. Would expect more attentive service from a wine bar. It’s difficult to focus on conversation when trying to get someone’s attention whenever you want to order something.

They offer a set lunch and a glass of wine and bread for 12.5£. Can’t do better. Ours was roast chicken, puréed potatoes and creamed cabbage. Fabulous! And my husband isn’t crazy about chicken. They do run out so get there early.

A lively wine bar between Charing Cross, Trafalgar Square and the Covent Garden area. It’s a little bit tucked away, so you are more likely to get in than on some of the main streets at peak hours. We dropped in for wine, beer and cheese pre-theatre and it definitely hit the spot. Really good choice of different cheeses and other nibbles. My wife and daughter were very happy with their wine, and her partner and I enjoyed a couple of craft beers. We went to the downstairs bar, which is a little quieter than the main bar for conversation, and that night had excellent music from late 60s and early 70s. We had fun.

First time at Terroirs and it was a mixed bag. The wine we have chosen was good. The cheese platter was frankly ridiculous for £14. We received three transparent strips of cheese on a plate with some bread. It was so sad that I wanted to cry. I should have expected a 'nouvelle cousine' portion from a place called Terroirs. Anyway I think the experience changer for me was the billed service charge despite the fact that we were sitting at the counter. I think they would do better if they changed the dining experience. Wine list seemed ok, bit on the expensive side but to be expected in a place like this.

I’m so glad that we finally booked to dine at Terroirs - incredible food and fantastic wine. Every dish was delicious and the overall menu for that day really well thought out. The service was efficient if not particularly warm but it was a busy Saturday evening and the place was packed so we didn’t mind so much given the quality of the food and drink. Brilliant wine bar with a small menu; glad we booked on a busy Friday; place was buzzing when we arrived. Perched at the bar whilst we awaited our table (no issue waiting). Lovely staff kept us informed and made some superb recommendations, an Australian Pinot Noir and a French Syrah, most memorable. Small menu, but not limited. Simple fare executed well, I had the Calves Tongue which was extraordinary, my wife the Cod main. No space for dessert but squeezed in the cheese platter. Love to recommend and we’ll be back with friends soon.

I found the staff wonderful and engaging, especially before it got busy. I liked seeing that they all seem to be good friends and enjoying work. They're all very knowledgeable about the wines and willing to make suggestions. Like that they’ll poor a taste to ensure you’d like the chosen wine. They usually have a wide selection of wines of the week at 6 pounds per glass...great deal. Opted for the charcuterie board which at 15 pounds is definitely worth it...the salami was super tasty as was the duck pate and the pork country pate...huge slice...bread refills (good bread). Be sure to get the green olives (5)—super big, very tasty. Well worth a visit especially if you’re a wine enthusiast.

We were really looking forward to returning to Terroirs. However on this occassion were very disappointed. We opted to sit at the counter as we wanted a simple , speedy lunch. We were happy to spend money but not silly money for a quick lunch .. but the bartender seemed really put out when we didn't want the £58.00 cab franc we were offered/sold and chose a lovely gamay instead. We did really enjoy the cheese and meats we ordered - including a lovely Coppa. The downside remained the surly, somewhat distant service (no eye contact, no smile .. were we just an inconvenience?). Finally the shift changed and we hoped for an improvement but it wasn't to be. Instead the two new arrivals busied themselves preparing for the night - obviously expecting to be busy. Without even saying hello they talked over us, left us uncleared and generally made us feel, once again a total inconvenience. The final straw was having to point out that we needed to pay .. we had to have service removed because there simply wasn't any! Needless to say we won't return, but do hope these comments won't fall on deaf ears.

I loved the rustic Gallic charm of this little spot, it’s bustling & has an easy going feel. Tables are hemmed in, the kitchen is open & some seating is on stools around the bar. Contrary to some reviewers experience we received quick, friendly service, & thought portions were generous. Terroirs majors in interesting, natural wines & it’s a great place to settle into with some cheese & charcuterie & sample a few by the glass. They offer around 4 cheeses & 4 charcuterie plates plus a small daily changing menu of tapas & larger dishes. I didn’t care for the ones I chose actually but feel it would be unfair to give only an average rating as chances are on a different day with different choices I’d have enjoyed it more. Prices are reasonable & I would give it another go.

Busy, bustling French bistro wine bar in a nondescript building close to Charing Cross. Looks casual and basic at first sight (a bit cramped), but actually a more serious place, with an extensive wine list. The menu is limited, and no standard bistro fare, such as steak or frites. Just three main dishes the night we went - duck, halibut and ox-cheek. Our group of four managed the range, and we were really impressed, everything perfectly cooked with flavours to die for. Only the ox-cheek came with (delicious) creamy mash, and could have done with some frites of greens - but that is a small niggle.

Having frequented Terroirs regularly a few years ago I was hugely disappointed on a recent return visit, largely due to the tiny portions of food and total indifference of the staff. We sat for half an hour with nothing but a small basket of bread (no butter) on the table and a slightly wince inducing bottle of wine. Eventually the cheese plate turned up with four absolutely tiny pieces of cheese on it (I've since looked at photos of Terroirs cheese plates and ours was literally half the size) This was followed by a selection of tasting plates which were poorly presented including a radicchio and goats curd dish which had one fleck of goats curd hidden under one of the leaves. The food itself tasted lovely but it was barely there at all. We had to leave the table and go and find a member of staff, who'd been largely invisible, to ask for water for the table and later for the bill. We left hungry and over £100 lighter to find dessert elsewhere. An off day? Based on past visits I'd like to think so but we won't be going back to find out.

Terroirs is more like a club than a bar. The staff are the friendliest you can imagine and they look after you and work really hard to find you a wine you will really like. I had one friend with a strong aversion from his misconception of what organic wines were like: I dragged him in and he left a convert! Inevitably, with such high standards, staff leave and set up their own bars, but I stay in touch and it simply broadens the choice I have of where to go and take friends. In their food they manage to combine flavours to create plates of wonderful freshness. And I have made more friends from talking to my unknown neighbours in Terroirs that in any other bar in London.

We have been to Terroir on a number of occasions in the past and it felt relatively good value, slightly quirky and authentic somehow... on our visit this week we had a nice biological wine(carafe), a plate of (tiny) bits of cheese, a meat plate and a couple of (again tiny) side dishes. This came to £98!!!!! We struggled at times to get the attention of the waiter and when we asked for more bread he took away the basket with the bread left in it. The food was nice, the wine was nice. The service was not unfriendly but not of a standard to match the prices. None of this compensated for the bill at the end of the meal, the minute portions of cheese and the minuscule side dishes... it was like French tapas but at £50 a head. Prices have definitely gone up..,a lot!! Would not rush back and will try and look for a new, quirky authentic French place to go for a drink and a meal where I will not be at risk of a heart attack when I see the bill.

Went there last night. Staff were a little on the arrogant side. We share a mix of small plates which were all tasty but on the small side considering the price but the house wine on tap was acceptable. We decided to have cheese as we were all still hungry. The deal was a plate of four cheeses with bread for £15. Four very small slices of cheese turned up, maybe 3-4 ounces in total and I had trouble cutting each piece into 4. The waitress asked us whether the portion was ample. Obviously the answer was no and she pointed out that cheese is expensive for them to buy and is reflected in the price. She also told us that the quality was excellent. Eating a lot of good quality cheese I didn't agree so she walked away. I realise that restaurants need to make a profit but considering the cheese plate cost about £1 to produce with no cooking involved that is just a rip off. I would return but forego the cheese.

The big plus is authenticity - if you like authentic Mediterranean fare, you'll love it - well prepared and an explosion of flavours. However it's a specialist - it doesn't offer anything else, and it's EXPENSIVE! The seating is unimpressively cramped. For the enthusiastic foodie who likes that kind of taste - otherwise you'll be disappointed.

The food was nice, staff too but be careful that they add optional services charges (£15 in our case) to your bill without mentioning it!

A French place close to Trafalgar Square, where you can find simple dishes but with an excellent quality. They have an extensive wine collection as well. The service is fantastic. Would highly recommend it

Great evening - huge wine list : we stuck to the house recommendations on the front of the menu which were excellent. Food interesting and well presented - good range of small plates. Service brisk but friendly and well informed. Will certainly go again..and again

I’ve gone past this restaurant many times, but have always assumed that it’s just a small wine bar. I could not be more wrong – the place is huge inside and very busy! The food menu is quite small with a few daily specials. We have tried:

My partner and I have dined here numerous times before heading to anyone of the theatres in St Martin’s Lane. The menu is short, simple and ever changing so however frequently you go, you will never be disappointed. The wine list is extensive and has options to suit every taste and budget - I tried a new wine for me on the last visit (a Pagliaro Montefalco) and it was fantastic. In order to allow plenty of time pre-theatre, I book for 5:45pm but the place is packed not long after 6pm and the service is swift and secure so you head out to your theatre in plenty of good time.

We've loved this place since it started, but our love has lessened each time we've eaten there as the chain spread and service standards fell. The kitchen is still good, but the planning seems a bit off. We went late, after the theatre. The 'dinner special' had finished; I wanted bread with my queen scallops and pesto - lots and lots of thin pesto; no fresh bread left. We probably won't go back any more, which is a pity.

Before people doubt my review as I visited in November and only writing this now... so yes I accept the place might have changed for the better since my visit but to be honest I very much doubt it unless the entire staff including chefs have changed! I finally have made some time to write this....basically we were both looking forward to this as we heard the wine selection was great which it is, so if you would like a relaxed ambience with nice decor and central location to have a glass of wine or two then go. BUT and there is a but if you want to eat then I advise stick to the things that are not cooked on the premises such as the bread and cheese. Everything else we ordered was a disaster and normally I would complain at the moment but my partner did not want to create a scene so I didn't. The potatoes were so salty they were inedible, the heritage carrots and chestnuts were swimming in oil again inedible. I can't recall what else we ordered but needless to say it was not tasty and poorly cooked.

Gracias Terroirs!

First a confession. I'm a wino. I am an amateur wine maker and serious wine enthusiast. I take my vino enjoyment pretty seriously. As such, I'm often frustrated by even the the most popular and well known wine bars. I look for some adventure in the wine selection and knowledgeable staff to help me enjoy the experience. Terroirs does not disappoint!

I came to this wine bar because it is one of the few places in London that serve orange wine, which is still kind of unknown here. I had never had it before but was curious to try. The one I ordered was an Italian one called "Sancho Panza" from Campania, Italy. I ended up ordering two glasses because I really loved the dry and bitter taste. The restaurant itself is really cozy and the staff was nice. I was even asked how I found the orange wine when I took the bill. Along with the wine I had the Burrata with vegetables. It was a tiny dish so don't expect huge portions but the taste was nice. If you're in the mood to try orange wine then this is definitely the place and the wine they have is really nice. Just book in advance on the website because there are not too many tables and it gets filled up quickly.

... and I am an ex-restaurant critic who runs their own restaurant and been here several times. While the natural wine selection is unrivalled - probably in the world - and the food is unapologetically 'refined', the service is appalling. It's not so much about rudeness - Its more of a pretentiousness amongst all the staff that makes this a largely uncomfortable wining/dining experience. To make it worse, if you're a happy spirited guest or merry after a few glasses, the pretentiousness grows to make you even more uncomfortable. I have never experienced this in any restaurant/bar in my 20 years of experience in the industry anywhere. On the other hand, if you're keen to try once, keep your back straight, enjoy the wine and put on a show of proprietary for the staff, by all means go for it. Tread though with caution when eating drinking here guys. For people in the hospitality business they're not very warm, relaxed or welcoming. Especially the lady at front. Head to their Battersea branch instead, or Antidote up the road for natural wine and great food.

I hardly ever choose French restaurants when picking where to eat but I’m glad we came here: the dishes we tried were some of the tastiest I’ve had in London. The menu changes weekly I think so there’s a good chance we won’t get to try the same things again (bad in a sense but good in that I’m sure the chefs here can keep on creating different delicious dishes) but the duck rilettes and pork with garlic- and chilli-infused broccoli in particular were just sensational.

I enjoyed lunch in this wine bar, the food is very simple and very good price/value. I think this is exactly what Michelin Bib Gourmand should be about. Decent wine list mostly with natural wines, which im not biggest fan of. We had a nice bottle of Chardonnay from Jura. The sommelier was very helpful and she knew her wines on the list.
