Terre a Terre in Brighton and Hove

As a meat eater, I was ready to be impressed by what could be done with just vegetables. Reading the menu, I was quite excited. The experience at this restaurant was 5 star. The service, the food. The drinks. I could have eaten anything on the menu and the dishes we did have were AMAZING. I am certainly one very impressed Omnivore.

Had afternoon tea with a friend. Service was great as always here - attentive without being overbearing. The food was delicious and plentiful, exciting flavours in the savoury selection and beautiful fresh warm scones with a nice variety of cakes. Lots of teas, coffee and hot chocolate to choose from. Booked Terre a Terre for a lunch meeting. Lovely atmosphere and quiet enough to talk and not feel we were disturbing anyone else either. Chose it specifically as one guest was vegan but both of us non vegans absolutely loved the veggie tapas. Delicious flavours and textures, presented like little works of art. Amazing hot chips too. Warm and friendly service. Will definitely be back!

Amazing innovative food - we have frequented this restaurant over a couple of decades not as often as we'd like to as we are not local. It's still the best - great service and birthday treats made it really special. They are also child friendly with a good range of bargain priced meals for kids. The two meat eaters in our group were impressed converts and want to go back! We will certainly be back next time we're in Brighton.

A quick and early dinner before heading off to a show was a real treat. Having not been for over 10 years we are happy to report that standards remain high with beautiful, tasty and thoughtful vegetarian and vegan food. I am not vegetarian, but this restaurant really showcases what incredible flavours are possible with the right knowledge and care. If only all vegetarian food was this good! Service was also friendly and very knowledgable.

Pre show dinner. We nearly missed the show because we had such a lovely, welcoming meal experience at this gorgeous restaurant. Will definitely head back to Brighton just for this restaurant.

I went with a friend for afternoon tea. The food was excellent and really tasty. The service was warm, friendly and very attentive. We were made to feel welcome, lacked for nothing and had a really lovely time. Good value for money. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone.

Delicious afternoon tea and super friendly, caring and helpful staff

We visited with a gluten-intolerant vegan friend who never imagined he could enjoy such tastes. Literally the best food he has enjoyed … ever! We non-vegetarians loved the ingenuity, the explosion of tastes, the beautiful presentation and the discreet, friendly service. The dishes are so artfully put together that even a Cro-Magnon carnivore (me) had no FOMO. The wine list is well-considered and extremely reasonably priced with a particular focus on local producers. We also loved the subtle refurbishment which creates such a warm atmosphere. Terre a Terre is an absolute gem; long may it continue

Anna was brilliant; very friendly and knowledgeable. Loved the new “Brit Pop” drinks range and tried the Bolney Cuvee this time. Delicious! Looking forward to the next visit to try the Artelium wine from Sussex! The food was outstanding, as it always is here!

Great food. We had the best set tapas for two. Slight jiggles were 5 mins before seated wait to be seated (it wasn’t busy), restaurant was a little cold and they forgot the pot of tea to go with the chocolates until reminded.

Me and my partner was visiting Brighton and chose here for valentines. The rows of tables made it look a little regimented and they were so close together I think they could have sacrificed a few bookings and removed a few tables to make it a slightly more intimate experience on such an occasion! This didn’t detract from the service and food though, our server was so knowledgeable about the food and so attentive whilst being so busy! The food was amazing and a real experience.

Went for valentines day, the food was nice but I don't think it worth the money, a set menu at £65 pp - dish one was a roll with dip, dish two was "tapas" from one large plate to share and dessert was a nice shared chocolate tart.

Beautifully presented and absolutely delicious food at surprisingly affordable prices. Warm, elegant and relaxed decor and lighting. And in the maitre de Dirk, an unsung star of entertainment, almost a floor show with every dish. If you think vegetarian restaurants are pious, worthy and dull, pay a visit to discover otherwise.

Terre à Terre is one of the main reasons I love going to Brighton. Delicious vegetarian/vegan food plus wine/cocktails. Wonderfully welcoming friendly staff. The new decor is also lovely. Always a great experience - thank you!

I came in Saturday with my girlfriend left after coffee . When we ask for some sweet with our coffee . We where giving two other menu and told these where the cheaper option . I’ve have never beer treated so badly in a restaurant like this before. One does suggest that one take the silver spoon out from where it does not shine

We came to Terre À Terre on a recommendation from a local who said it was the best veggie restaurant in Brighton. The food lived up to the hype and my friend even said it was the best meal she'd ever had. We had the tapas sharing platter and a pudding after. Everything was lovely and really good value for the high quality of food. The staff were also lovely. We were looked after by Dirk who made us feel very at home, helped with our indecisive moments and gave us lots of great recommendations for places to go in Brighton.

Came along on Wednesday 15th in January for my birthday meal after coming a previous year and having a lovely experience. This return did not disappoint, the waiter ( Mark) who served us was wonderfully accommodating and it felt like he knew exactly what we wanted before we had even finished asking, we felt very looked after, the lady on shift was also wonderfully responsive and gave us a lovely description of the tapas we ordered when it came out. The food was phenomenal, thoroughly enjoyed the introduction of the tapas option as it gave us a chance to try a little of everything, all the flavours were contrasting but complimentary and you could taste the quality of ingredients used. They also added the personal touch of bringing out a birthday plate for me which was really lovely. Thankyou again terre a terre for a wonderful experience 😊

We celebrated a family 50th Birthday at terre a terre, Brighton. The food was absolutely delicious, amazing flavours on our plates. The service was pleasant and attentive. A lovely meal in a restaurant with calm, friendly atmosphere. Recommended.

Excellent food and hospitality. We celebrated a birthday there 29th December 2024 and the food was great. I normally like to eat meat but who needs meat having these delicious dishes.

My favourite restaurant!! Took my daughter for an early birthday treat. We had an early afternoon tea which was glorious. An amazing savoury plate ( no sandwiches here!) and then 3 tiers of sweetness including a lovely sorbet. So different and delicious. Staff were lovely and helpful as ever. Lovely family atmosphere.

It was such a pleasure to be able to take my "meat eating" family for a truly stupendous lunch at Terre A Terre. From the moment we arrived the staff made you feel so welcome. The food was delicious and the service was amazing. It was also so rare to see no service charge on the bill... We did tip because we thought they went over and above your average restaurant to ensure you had a good experience. Such lovely genuine people

New Year's Eve lunch in Brighton, we had 3 courses bookended by coffees, had fabulous service, exquisite food, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Recommend sitting towards back of restaurant for some daylight if lunching.

It’s so delicious, go here!! Dirk the waiter is fantastic, the best waiter I’ve ever had, he recommended the perfect dishes and was so knowledgeable and friendly about the restaurant, so honest and helpful. The food was incredible, the bao was “baot” of this world! 😉 the chocolate dessert was also ridiculously good. Our mains were also epic. Clearly labelled, good vegan options. If you haven’t been here yet, you must go!

Returned to Terre a Terre for a late lunch. Their recipes and presentation are still the best. We’d tried some of the new arrivals in Brighton that are big on “sharing” but where you get hits and misses. This menu uniformally excellent. Cheese souffle the cheesiest. Bao buns great with pickles and sauces. Rosti main course the perfect post Christmas pick me up. Big restaurant . Very quiet mid afternoon.

A group of 6, we visited on Friday 20th of December. The restaurant was busy, but the service was good, attention to detail was excellent, and the food was first class. Only two of our party were vegan, but even the committed carnivores among us were very happy with the food experience. We would visit again.

I'm not even a vegetarian so I didn't really know what to expect here but I can honestly say it was the tastiest experience I've ever had. Highly recommend it.

We had a table for a Wednesday lunch. The food and service was excellent as usual. Staff couldn't have been more helpful to one of our party who has a garlic allergy. However, the atmosphere was a bit flat due to a lack of diners.

The first time I went here I had the most amazing meal! 5/5 The second time, I can’t believe the food was so bad :( I started off with a version of a Khaman Dhokla - this was WAY too over seasoned the three chutneys were so strange (almost sour?) and the sponge was covered in curry powder so it was difficult to eat For my main I had Rosti Spinach - I’ve had this before it was stunning but this time around it tasted like they dumped a jar or salt into the sauce, unfortunately it was so salty me and my friend couldn’t eat it and had to reorder Although the food was disappointing, the staff were so lovely and helpful about the issues. We were very grateful for how our waiter (sorry don’t know his name!) handled it. I recommend this restaurant but I hope it was just a bad day for the kitchen, judging from our great experience last time and the reviews, it looks like we were just unlucky

Visited for the first time and had the afternoon tea for two. The service was impeccable, our server talked us through the menu and was incredibly attentive and reassuring about allergies. The food and drink selection was amazing, with a savoury plate preceding the three tiers of sweets. The amount of food was enormous for only £30/pp, we were impressed by both the quantity and quality!

We have been going to Terre à Terre since it opened. We were sad when it closed due to a fire and were delighted when it reopened; such is our enthusiasm for this restaurant. Last night, however, we had a terrible meal. I ordered Pigeon Pea Pastilla and both the concept and the execution of this dish were very poor. It had three Brussels sprouts and they were raw, except for some superficial charring with a blow torch. I showed this to the waiter and he brought over the manager who said he was embarrassed. It was almost impossible to cut through it with the dining knife. I was starving though and gave it a decent effort to try and eat it. The filo pastry parcel was so salty that it, too, was equally inedible. The dish also had diced beetroot which was slimy. All of this was served on a very unremarkable mashed potato. We were having the festive menu which comes with a dessert, but after the very disappointing main course, we didn't want to stay for the dessert. The staff were apologetic but that doesn't change the disappointment.

The food is absolutely incredible! To be able to have such a delicious, varied and creative vegan meal is amazing!

We had a three year old and a 74 year old in our party who were equally well treated.

Terre a Terre Is one of our favourite eating palces. It is just perfect. We were there to celebrate an anniversary, but you don’t need an excuse to dine here. We had their afternoon tea which was delightful. The food is fantastic, and the service is brilliant. It is a veggie / vegan restaurant but with always an exciting twist to tickle your taste buds. What more is there to say, go and try it for yourselves I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

A fantastic meal. We had the tapas tasting menu and each component was exceptional, balanced, thought out and sublime. So nice to be offered vegetarian food that doesn't include the obligatory goats cheese, beetroot or sweet potato. Would definitely go again and try their other dishes (except we do live 204 miles away)

As a family of a vegetarian, pescatarian, and an omnivore (we left the carnivore at home) I can honesty say it was one of the most wonderful meals any of us have had. From the detailed, informative drinks menu, to the food, to the service we couldn’t fault it. Our biggest problem was that we couldn’t choose, so all ended up sharing everything! Every single member of the team there was absolutely lovely too (I’m sorry I can’t remember the name of the gentleman who served us, but he’d been there 12 years and was amazing !)

Delicious meal, some of the best vegetarian food we've had! Recommend the pigeon peas pie and halloumi bao buns. Service was great, particularly Dirk who took great care of us. Looking forward to coming back in the future!

Terre à Terre? Dear oh dear! Went to this restaurant with my partner after reading rave reviews and was sorely disappointed. My partner had initially called to ask if they served vegan meals as this is a vegetarian restaurant and was told y the person on the phone that there were lots of vegan dishes to choose from on the menu. This was not the case, the vegan selection was very limited. The starter which was some kind of teriyaki tofu was nice but that's where the niceness ends. There was only a choice of 4 items from the mains menu and none really seemed that Interesting. My partners meal tasted really bad, the spices on the beetroot and in the pastry which were Moroccan or middle Eastern clearly had not been cooked and so were really powdery and far from appetising to the palate. The mushroom filling of the pastry was dry and tasted exactly the same as the weird beetroot thing, powdery and overpowering. My meal was a rosti topped with spinach and a tiny piece of tòfu swimming in a watery green sauce alleged to be pea and mint but had no taste of mint at all and was average at best. The salad which was recommended to us by the waiter I can only describe as ADHD on a plate, a soggy mish mash of conflicting and overpowering flavours which did not marry well on the palate at all, really awful. We were so annoyed and disappointed with our food that we didn't even stay for dessert. The food was overpriced for what it was and really not worth it based on taste. We won't be returning or recommending anyone we know to visit here unfortunately. #disappointed

What an absolute delight to find. The food here was absolutely brilliant, the tapas option was delicious with every bite and i couldn't have enjoyed the meal any better. Some strong recommendations would be the the pear pudding, the aubergine zhuganoush, and the karekatsu smoked tofu. The staff were really friendly and welcoming as well, and it was a nice quiet atmosphere that really made it all come together.

Recently had a wonderful lunch at Terre a Terre. Remember first going for a meal when it opened in Pool Valley in the 90s. It was magical - I had never come across food like it before (or the tongue in cheek names of the menu). I can honestly say despite the decades passing Terre a Terre reminds as inventive, creative and delicious as ever.

We’ve not visited for a while but Terre a Terre has not lost its touch. The Terre a tapas had a new addition and was delicious as always. A real culinary delight from start to finish. That combined with great service makes this a place you have to try when in Brighton.

Me and my partner went to Tere a Tere for a date night meal and it was lovely. It was some of the best vegetarian food we had tried. Our waiter Bella was extremely lovely and made our experience even better.

Execllent food, excellent service in an oasis of calm in central Brighton. The vegetarian menu is exciting and full of flavour. The afternoon tea is a well-kept secret - try it!

My wife and I were on a short break in Brighton to celebrate my retirement. After a very disappointing meal at, let's call it, FFF yesterday we booked lunch here. This is our favourite veggie restaurant anyway and it didn't disappoint. Great attentive service and the most wonderful food. We're going to try the afternoon tea here next time we come down to Brighton.

Went with friends Monday 28th. My first time in a vegan/vegetarian restaurant for a number of years. The menu looked fantastic so the four of us tried the tapas. Started and ended the night with brilliant cocktails.The tapas was a taste sensation and a great way to try out different things. Staff were helpful and lovely. I can’t wait till I am back in Brighton to go there again. I am still talking about how fantastic it was five days on.

Fabulous tastes but TINY!!!! We have been a few times over the years when we visit Brighton and have always loved the food. We decided to try the tapas, having had tapas in Spain and other places where there’s large shareable portions. We asked the waitresses whether it was a main and she said it was (it was £25 a head). When it arrived I assumed that more food was coming. Everything was about a mouthful in size. I think there were 7 items each to eat. Absolutely gorgeous but the size was so small. I considered getting another main but they were over £20 so we considered getting some chips on the pier afterwards (it was a Monday night in October and the pier was closed). If they sorted out their portion sizes then it would have been five stars.

I’m unsure of the hype around this restaurant each year based off my one experience of it - the decor was tired, the service was flat and the food wasn’t special. I went here some time ago for a birthday but was violently ill afterwards which could only be accredited to something I ate. I appreciate this will likely have been a one off, but the other people I ate with that day also felt the general experience was lacking.

There was a huge amount of effort which had gone into our food on the taster plate but it was a bit hit and miss. Rosti was very good. The smoked tofu was a bit over-fragrant. Salad was beautiful, halloumi underwhelming etc. plus their wine menu was just not very good I'm afraid, I think they need help with that. Shame because it is a lovely space in a perfect location and the service and attitude was exceptional.

Absolutely outstanding experience at this restaurant. We were glad we got to experience the October best tapas menu which enables you to enjoy lots of small samples of the menu , each one was completely delicious, some things I’d never tried , so interesting. The way all the elements were crafted was nothing short of magic imo . Not even very expensive either . Will definitely be going again

Octoberbest birthday treat for a friend did not disappoint. Great value, a really nice selection of interesting flavours across a range of cuisines. The Asian salad and terakyaki tofu were my favourite of the tapas. Dessert was something really special and unique with flavour combos and components I'd not experienced before which is great for a foodie looking for something new. Thank you for the extra birthday treats too they were appreciated.

What an amazing culinary taste sensation! Absolutely loved every bite of the Terre à Tapas, where you get to taste some of their signature dishes. Beautifully displayed and delicious! We sat in a quiet corner at the back of the restaurant with a view of the little outside space. Service was impeccable. Will definitely be going back.

Have been wanting to go here since I lived in Brighton. I left in 1996 and finally got a chance to go on a weekend stay. It didn’t disappoint. So refreshing as a vegetarian for 40+ years to find a menu that is so interesting and inspiring. The tapas menu is ideal for trying a little bit of everything and the staff are attentive and knowledgeable about the food. I won’t wait 28 years to go back again!

We had the terre a verre (tapas and wine). The staff were really accommodating and offered to put the vegan tapas on a different plate to the vegetarian option. We upgraded to alvarino wine which was worth the extra £6. The food was delicious, service was perfect, great window seat. Loved it, will be back!

Wonderful meal last night at terre à terre - the food was excellent, drinks delicious and they catered immaculately for my boyfriend who has a gluten allergy. The service really made the night though - you're welcomed like old friends and made to feel valued throughout. A really lovely experience.

We sat in the lovely airy courtyard at the back of the restaurant . Great food and service from the whole team. We shared the vegan tapas plate and followed with the delicious chocolate dessert . All highly recommended!

I've been going to this restaurant for more than 10 years. Up until the last two visits, I would have said it was one of the best restaurants in the UK. Now I am not so sure. I understand that the menu is based on global travel and new flavours etc and have appreciated the introduction to new dishes, as part of the shared dish of various offerings. We used to look forward to that shared meal so much. But on the last two occasions we were served with a lot of greasy balls and not much flavour. I know that costs have to be kept down etc, but honestly speaking, where are we headed here guys??

I am so incredibly disappointed that I chose here to celebrate my partners birthday. The waiter with the glasses was unbelievably rude and weirdly aggressive as soon as we arrived. I’d said we were celebrating a birthday when I booked but there was no acknowledgement when we arrived. I don’t understand it at all as there was only a couple of tables, it was a Wednesday night so not at all busy. The waiters hostility was actually quite uncomfortable. The food was a real let down as the menu listed ingredients that weren’t in the dishes and the ingredients and flavours weren’t really anything. Feel awful to say that but it’s true, I feel cat fished by the menu. The presentation of the dishes is totally different to what’s shown online. The buns were so basic and poorly presented. It said they came with kimchi but couldn’t see it anywhere. Also I don’t understand why one set came with pickled ginger and one didn’t. After we’d finished the mains, the waiter bought out the menus again and opened on the dessert menu pages without asking if everything was ok. When we asked for the bill it took about 20 mins to come, again despite there being about 3 other tables, then he bought out a birthday dessert for my partner, which would have been a nice touch but there was no spoon or anything to eat it with 😂 everything seemed like way too much effort and that we were inconveniencing him by even being there. I did so much research to find somewhere special for my partners birthday and thought I could trust Terre a Terre to deliver, however I really wish I’d have booked somewhere else or Burnt Orange 😢 *edit: I received a phone call from someone at Terre a Terre after I posted this review who proceeded to ask me if what I’d written regarding the waiters behaviour was ‘true’ - I find that pretty insulting. If we’d have had a great evening, why would I leave a bad review? He also said that he’s a great waiter - cool, that definitely wasn’t our experience though. I assume the call was meant to make amends but it only irritated me more and I couldn’t wait to get off the phone to this person as it was a waste of time. They’ve replied below to say they take the feedback seriously, yet that wasn’t the impression he gave on the phone at all. He offered to send some vouchers but why would I go back somewhere that’s repeatedly been so terrible?

Great plant-based options and the non alcohol Jasmine Tea cocktail was amazing. Will be back here for sure when I am next in Brighton. Very friendly staff too !

Terre a Terre came on the scene when vegetarian food was hard to come by and this restaurant set the standards for high quality options. Sadly, it's no longer in the vanguard and the choices now seem quite pedestrian though well-prepared.

We were in Brighton for 2 evenings and ate there for both dinners. The food is a gastronomic delight. It is extremely tasteful and original, and for a very fine price. The staff is friendly, respectful and knowledgeable. Everything that makes a perfect evening. It is my favorite restaurant, not only in Brighton but in England all together!

I am no chicken (excuse the phrase for a review of a vegetarian restaurant) so I have eaten a few meals . This experience was special. One of the most surprising and memorable meals of my life. And I am not a vegetarian. On a birthday meal for my wife and two Vegan daughters we travelled from London to Brighton to Terry a Terre on a recommendation. It’s difficult to portray the explosions of tastes, the trip around the world, on a plate that this charming , unpretentious place presents you with. Staggeringly nuanced ,the Tapas meze is just epic…each small bite like a timed sensory experience…a firework on the tongue. And if this review sounds pompous ..go ….you'll talk about it for weeks.

Says they have afternoon tea available till 5pm but I went in around 4:30 and they said it’s actually only till 4pm, even though it’s written on the board till 5. Strange / incorrect advertising, please update your timing to avoid confusion.

Literally life changing! I'm from Guernsey, Channel Islands and first visited Brighton several years ago. I wanted to find something a bit different for lunch and found you (easily) on TripAdvisor. Everything was fabulous and may I thank you also for sowing a seed in my head about not having to have any dead animals on my plate - It was a revalation! I wasn't looking to go vegan but the experience made me think a lot about what my choices mean to others. Subsequently I watched 'Earthlings' (free on youtube) and my decision was made. I can honestly say it's the best decision I've made and my biggest regret was not realising/changing sooner! 😘🐕🐈&😘🐄🐖🐑🐣🐟 PS I love more than ever and one day I hope to return🤗 PPS I used to joke at vegans too!!😐🤣

Delicious and varied, quite small portions for the price, but good food and friendly

As a long term vegetarian, incredibly impressed by the tapas dishes. Great texture, flavour and originality! Service also wonderful.

This was our second visit to Terre a Terre, after a gap of a few years, and we were not disappointed - we had the "Sneaky Peeking Steamers" as a starter which were spectacular, and a large "Terre a Tapas" to share as a main course - such a wonderful and varied set of flavours - definitely not to be missed if you're visiting Brighton, Vegetarian or not!

I had an absolutely gorgeous experience in Terre a Terre with family, including our small children. We ate on the beautiful terrace in the sunshine and opted for the tapas selection. This was honestly some of the best food I have ever tasted; every single dish was mouth wateringly delicious and presented immaculately - I couldn’t choose a favourite as they were all so good! We washed it down with sparkling rose and a gorgeous cocktail. The kids were provided for too, with an excellent selection of little dishes; everybody left full. I was particularly impressed with the way they catered for my sister, who has multiple allergies, they really ensured that she did not miss out, and catered for her specific dietary requirements with care. The service was second to none, and the staff went out of their way for us and were super friendly. All in all I’d give it 10/10 and go as far to say that this is my favourite restaurant in Brighton. Thank you! ❤️

Ate at this restaurant as part of a weekend trip to Brighton. Decided to go for the tapas menu, myself and my girlfriend were thoroughly disappointed with the taste and quality of the dishes! 6 different courses, 6 different opportunities to change my mind and you missed every time ! Perhaps there are other dishes which taste better but certainly the tapas is one to avoid ! I’m a meat eater and this experience has put me off veggie food ! Service was also poor, had a waiter bring us the tapas whilst my girlfriend was in the loo, he offered to come back and explain the dishes. The guy never bothered coming back ! Don’t bother with this restaurant if you eat meat, get a kebab from round the corner instead- tastier and cheaper !
