We waited an hour to order. Steaks (which I imagine are a staple menu item) were not available. Chose seafood linguine instead which was clearly pasta & passata with some frozen seafood thrown in as had zero flavour of the sea. Really poor service, quite expensive and not made up for by the quality of the dishes. Very disappointing!

Our family group of seven visited for dinner. I was immediately pleasantly surprised to discover what a stylish hotel this was. It was tastefully decorated and furnished with a relaxing vibe. Besides being immaculately maintained it was spotlessly clean, which is sadly lacking in some of the other establishments in the area. Our meals were all first class and the service was highly professional, being only slightly spoiled by one of the mains arriving several minutes after the rest. I would personally recommend the chicken supreme. Would certainly visit again.

The view of the sea from our room was wonderful. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. This contributed to the enjoyment of the stay. The breakfast was good and we enjoyed the evening meal. The bed was far too soft and both myself and my husband suffered from back pain because of this. Whoever decided where to hang the mirrors in the room must have been extremely short it was very difficult to be able to apply make up or see myself to comb my hair. I had to bend myself double. There was no decent bathroom mirror. Just a wobbly mirror on a stand that wasn’t fit for purpose.

Appalling. We booked a table at 8, we’re 20 mins late, they were gracious enough to allow us to be seated but told us to just stand around while they found a table that was ready for us(oh I’m sorry I thought we’d booked? Also restaurant only amlost half full) if another walk in had used our table I’d fully understand and expect to be lead to the bar or a lounge area to wait with a drink/remove coats etc but no. Made to stand around, then lead to a table with low chairs, both with long ‘good’ coats- expected to drape over the chair and trail on floor-not good. Attendee brought us still water as requested, we busied ourselves choosing drinks is starter main and wine for the table immediately, being aware of our lateness and not wanting it to impact kitchen or staff, then we waited, and waited, and waited some more, observed the couple next to us do the same then when they asked if they could further purchase drinks after clearing their bill they were met with much negativity and ‘I don’t knows’ Jesus Christ they’ve just had a meal with you, allow them to move to the Lounge and have another or risk losing them which I think they did.. we were ignored for 49 minutes, not even a drinks order taken! So I had to swivel round in my chair and flap a bit to get attention, Enoch brought a lady who said she couldn’t take an order of drinks for two and would send somebody else along.. que another 15 min wait.. I asked for two rose champagnes, got two standard champagnes instead.. chose to drink these as we’d both been waiting for more than an hour at this point, then when our starters arrived. We mentioned the rose and ordered some more, originals were knocked of our bill which was very kind. Soufflé was heavy, soggy, over cheesy and not a hint of lobster, in fact was very reminiscent of a cheap cheese dipping pot I bought at Morrisons for Xmas, horrid. Prawns were excellent quality but super over cooked. Steak arrived with no steak knife, on asking the waiter, he seemed very confused to the point of awkwardness O my husband tried his standard knife an d said he’d soldier through so the waiter said ok!! And left!! Then found a random one said we could have it oh hell I don’t know what to think there!! My brill was wonderful! We asked the bill and to relocate being aware of how indecisive they were with next doors table we said please can we pay and then may we have time to decide Lounge/bar or home and they said they’d bring the bill.. they never did so we sat there bored .. waiting for a nice place to settle to order the £115 bottle of wine for our special occasion… we eventually had to press for the bill, went to the bar and by the time we’d got the wine(we both haven’t drunk any alcohol in months) we were both so tired and bored we had to force down the wine which was supposed to be part of an enjoyable evening because the staff needed to go home, so we left to go over to tregenna castle instead, such a shame, great wine menu, great food, shambolic set up and shan’t be back. Shall definitely be posting this review on our social media as we travel a lot and have become fed up of over priced shoddy service in the uk. Unfortunate for us as it was a personal trip this time being Valentine’s Day etc

We stayed 3 nights, ate dinner in the restaurant on 2 occasions and breakfast on 3 mornings. The dinners were excellent especially the soufflé starter as were all the seafood dishes, which were well prepared and cooked to perfection. The wine list was adequate and reasonably priced and whilst we felt it was unusual to add a service charge on to the meal for residents, we paid this as the waiting staff were excellent. What we did not appreciate was the service charge being levied in the bar as all the barman did was pour us a glass of wine and a pint of beer so hardly worthy of a tip. The breakfasts were not as good as we had had on our last visit, the hot choice was much reduced and where is the ‘omelette Arnold Bennett’ which was a classic at St Ives Harbour Hotel? Our room was comfortable but there was confusion with housekeeping over towels as ours were always wet due to the towel rail not working which was finally fixed after requesting a couple of times and when asked for new towels we never got a full set. Overall we enjoyed our stay but it could have been better with greater attention to detail.

Twice Baked Cheese Soufflé to start which was divine and Roast Sirloin of Beef for the main course which just melted in the mouth crispy roast potatoes and parsnips all vegetables were cooked to perfection including the gorgeous cauliflower cheese yum! Chocolate Delice for dessert you couldn’t fault anything the restaurant staff were so friendly and efficient. Just perfect.

Although we could not see the stunning views (time of year), this tasteful restaurant again served tasty food in stylish surroundings. My starter of scallops was delicious and the catch of the day was served with generous portions of seasonal green vegetables and saute potatoes with a really rich creamy sauce. The only thing letting the dinner down was the crockery on which three of our four dishes was served, chunky and white (but not at all modern, rather reminiscent of school dinners in the 70s). My starter was served on a delightful lipped pale blue plate which really enhanced the dish. Prices are at the upper end for mid range dining and the list of wine by the glass is expansive.

It was our first time at the restaurant and enjoyed it. It was quiet so we had a table by the window overlooking Porthminster beach. We had cod with crab, and burratta tortellini which were both nice dishes. We felt the dishes were slightly expensive but the plush decor and sea views were what you we’re actually paying extra for. Would go again just to sit in the bar / terrace and have drinks with a view.

We thought we would treat ourselves towards the end of our holiday. Unfortunately staff seemed unclear of their actual job , we kept saying please can we have 2 separate bills ? Then at the end they couldn’t do it . Quite slow service, then they tried to charge us £4.50 per jug of tap water and a service charge added onto the bill of nearly £30. I asked for both to be taken off , they did. We found a lot in St Ives this summer restaurant bills having 5/10 or even 20% added on for gratuity. Not sure why they do this ? Staff are getting paid! Just so you know , it’s not the law and you can ask for a bill to have it removed. Food mediocre tbh and top price

Service was awful, waited 20 minutes to even get asked for a drink. Over priced with awful food and service. Hygiene wasn’t the best either. My wife had a main course of gluten free fish and chips which was so unpleasantly greasy the batter couldn’t be eaten - may be that is why it was on the gluten free option menu..? I had the cod in crab crust. Apparently. Small cod fillet with a crust but if I hadn’t read it was crab I wouldn’t have known. Served with possibly the most tasteless mashed potato I’ve ever had. We are staying up near this hotel and decided to go for drinks and lunch at Harbar on Tuesday. We booked all of our evening meals in advance of our holiday but lunches Mon-Weds have been a bit of a minefield in the town due to the ‘Eat Out’ scheme. Harbar seemed like a good option as it’s out of town and has amazing views. We didn’t know if they were signed up to 50% off, we just wanted some lunch. We arrived to find an A board at the entrance to their terrace ‘We are open!’, printed with the bar menu. We entered the bar, which was completely empty apart from a lady working on a laptop, and asked for a table for two for drinks and lunch. We were shown through to the restaurant (empty apart from three tables) and were abruptly told that unless we had booked, we couldn’t eat lunch. I said we actually didn’t want to eat in the restaurant, the bar was fine but again, we were told we couldn’t order food but it was possible for us to have a drink. As the bar was still deserted, we took the best table (in the window) and ordered two drinks. There were bar food menus on the table and these were hastily removed. Two ladies arrived, via the terrace, and asked if it was possible just to have a tea and coffee outside - they were told they could. Two minutes later another lady arrived and asked if she could sit on the terrace for a drink, possibly some lunch, and was turned away. She pointed out that the menu was at the top of the steps, advertising that they were open for lunch. She was told ‘bookings only’. At this point it was 1:30pm and the bar was still empty, save for us and the tea/coffee drinkers on the terrace. There were a handful of occupied tables in the restaurant.Another couple arrived (possibly residents) and ordered a latte and a Diet Coke that they had to ask for twice and had to wait 20 minutes for. We paid about £12 for the two drinks, walked into St Ives and had lunch somewhere else. We had a table for dinner booked here for this evening (booked at the start of last month) but, based on this experience, we won’t be going.

We visited here today for lunch. Our table wasn’t ready so we had drinks in the bar. We were sat shortly after and the restaurant was not particularly busy but appeared to be short-staffed. Starters were good and we were looking forward to the rest of the meal however we were sadly disappointed. One of the sandwiches was served on white, not brown bread, as requested. When we asked for this to be changed, we were informed by a different waitress that there was no more brown bread and that her colleague had told us this. Four of the other meals were returned to the kitchen as they were cold. The seafood burgers in particularly were inedible. The cheeseburger was ‘remade’ but even the second attempt was barely warm. Unfortunately we requested for five of the meals to be taken off the bill, which they were. If you are coming to eat, I would recommend the ‘bites/starters’ but avoid the main courses, unless you are ordering a cold salad or sandwich.

First meal in the restaurant was fine, sat outside on the terrace for drinks listening to a poor dog that had been left in a room barking and howling for over an hour, staff said they were unable to do anything as the guests had gone in for a meal, was charged for a glass of wine we hadn’t had! Second meal was not up to the previous standard, assume because the weather was bad more people had decided to eat in the restaurant and basically there weren’t enough staff to cope, meal wasn’t great and service very slow, the first bill we received charged us for a bottle of wine costing £10 more than the one we actually had, the second bill still had the wrong wine on it and had omitted the eat out scheme discount of £60, the third bill was eventually correct, however we then waited over 15 minutes to order a drink despite the barman saying he would be with us immediately! We left to find somewhere we could actually get served.

We tried to look for a clean table but they were ALL dirty. Waiting staff weren’t wearing masks or visors to serve you and the tables certainly didn’t look or feel 1 metre apart. Terrible service. My girlfriend and I booked a table for dinner at 19:30, arrived & checked in at the bar entrance & asked to sit outside which was fine as you can only book a table inside but can go outside if they have tables free, we were given a paper drinks menu & went to sit outside. All the tables were unfortunately clearly dirty & hadn’t been cleaned which isn’t great in these Covid times & I would put this down to lazy staff & I don’t think there’s any excuse for allowing customers to sit at dirty tables, but we sat down at a table. A large group came down via the outdoor stair entrance and asked for a table for drinks, the staff then came over and took their drink order ignoring us even though we were there first. It was around 20 minutes before one of the guys on the bar came to take our order but by this point I wasn’t really happy with the service and the whole experience so I had booked to grab food from somewhere else, I told the staff (2 men at the bar) to cancel the table and that I wasn’t happy with the service & the staff didn’t seem too bothered with my complaint but unfortunately I couldn’t bring myself to support this business with such complacency towards its customers & instead went to support one of the brilliant restaurants in town

The ot breakfasts were nice all except the bacon. I have no idea why, but they can't cook bacon here. We tried several time and each time the bacon came out pale and the fat was undercooked on it. Certainly not good at all regarding the bacon.

I attended a baby shower at the hotel recently. The service received was 5*. From booking with the events team to the day itself everything ran smoothly. The room was private which allowed for baby shower games and had the most incredible view of St Ives Bay We were a group of 14 ladies and a few had dietary requirements which were all taken care off. The team looked after us very well and the price was excellent value! We will be back soon. Thank you st. Ives Harbour.

Really enjoyed the food and service here. Great views over the harbour and a menu that my wife could enjoy even with a shellfish allergy. Only disappointment was not their fault - no lobster due to the weather. Definitely eat there again on next years hols

We felt lazy and couldn't be bothered tpo walk in to town. We'd checked out the menu and knew we'd find something delicious to eat. It's a lovely restaurant with superb views and smacks of class. To this end we only had a main and a glass of wine but thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. It would be a lovely place to eat on a special occasion. The food was delicious and the service very good too.

Impromptu meal with the family on a passed on recommendation. Great fresh food, friendly relaxed service despite it being busy, staff attentive without being in the way. A little pricey but the view makes up for it. Will definitely return on our next visit to St Ives.

My husband and I chose to eat here as we were staying at the hotel and the weather was awful. We were not disappointed with the food or the cost but there were clearly issues with the staff and I don't think that should be obvious to your customers. We were given the menu's but when finally approached were only asked for food. Who wouldn't want a drink with their meal? We pretty much had the bread basket thrown at us as the waiter had forgotten to give it to us and I assume the person who spotted this was annoyed. The meal improved when our food came. Compliments to the chef. Portions were small and had we had been advised, we would have ordered sides but that's their monetary loss. We sat for about an hour after we finished to watch the mayhem that was the staff but turned out entertaining. Basic line is, the chef made this experience and I hope his salary reflects this. Food, though small portions was spot on and we would have ordered more (not the chefs fault) but service was to be desired. We didn't complain cause we aren't those kind of people and cannot fault anything. We got what we asked for but I think just a little bit of professionalism would be good. I don't think I needed to know someone was messing up.

My husband and I visited St Ives Harbour restaurant last weekend as we had seen the 2 for 1 Sunday roast advertised on the hotels website. When we were given the mwdnu there was no Sunday roast offer so I asked the waitress who told me there was no roast served in the evening. We reluctantly looked at the menu and when a waitress came to take our order I said that we had come for the Sunday roast offer and we were told there was none a a ikan. I had overheard another table asking for the same thing and their waitress had gone to the kitchen as nd returned with an offer of 4 roasts options. I asked why we couldn't have the same.she went and spoke to a senior waitress and then returned with a Sunday roast 2 for 1 menu. Why wasn't this available at the start. We ate our meal which was just OK. Lots of meat and hardly any veg. I had 1 Carrott and 1 sprig of sprouting broccoli. We didn't order sweets as I was so annoyed with the whole series of events and then to top it all when we got the bill they had added over 4 pounds on for service charge. I asked for it to be removed as I felt the service we'd received was not acceptable. Such a disappointing evening from one of our local hotels. Will we return? Probably not.

Fantastic views from the bar overlooking Porthminster Beach. Unusual to find an Oloroso sherry on the menu which went perfectly with the smoked almonds. Nice glass of rose to follow with a salmon sandwich. Salmon was nice but bread wasn't anything special.

Came here with my partner at the start of our weeks holiday. Weather wasn’t great that evening, but fantastic view from our window table. Food was lovely and just big enough portions to feel not over full. Service very good as well. Lovely evening - thank you to everyone.

Visited here last week for a cup of tea and to admire the view from the terrace. Our tea cups when they arrived were dirty and I had to get them changed ! No apology from the waiter. My husband asked where are the biscuits ?as we had been having tea on the terrace at The Carbis Bay Hotel which was lovely as this included two homemade shortbread biscuits at the cost of £7.00 . The tea for two at The Harbour hotel cost £9.00 and no homemade biscuits. Needless to say we had our afternoon cuppa at Carbis Bay after that ! Also the bowls of water for the dogs were in a shocking state there is no way I would let my dog drink out of them ! The water was brown with all cigerette butts in there as you can see in the attached picture.

2a&2c hotel residents eating dinner here- two courses took two hours- rather slow service. The three mains were great, though the fourth was a rib eye steak which was not on the bone as per menu nor were the triple chips anywhere near tripled.

I took my husband here for his birthday, had a window seat which has lovely views of the beach. We had the prawns and scallops for starters which were delicious and hake and sea bass for mains, both very good. Although a bit pricey, I would certainly eat here again.

Lovely place with a fabulous view. Was treated to afternoon tea by my daughter whilst on holiday. Service was impeccable and the food was lovely. Nice selection of sandwiches and cakes. The truffle chicken sandwich was amazing. Only downfall was the scones, too crispy on the outside, like they had been glazed all over. But other than that would definitely recommend.

We come to Cornwall on a regular basis and like to try different places to eat. We have stayed at the Salcombe Harbour Hotel but have never visited this one in St Ives. We booked a table in the restaurant and arrived half an hour early. Having checked the website which stated free on site parking, on arrival saw the adjacent car park and buzzed the intercom to see if we could park. A very officious man said the car park was for the apartments (?) and was full and directed us to the station car park. We managed to get the last space and walked back up the hill. Lucky we set off early! We had a drink in the bar and I was next to the window with a lovely view over the beach, only spoiled by the amount of flies on the inside of the glass. I know it’s difficult with open doors but they need to sort it out.

Had a pleasant meal at the Harbar restaurant. Lovely views overlooking portminster beach. The restaurant was rather empty and found that service was slightly slow considering. For 2 people we had 2 drinks each and a starter and a main which came to £80 which reduced to £72 with spa pass discounts. Our mains were £18 each being the monkfish curry. I understand that monkfish is an expensive fish but for that price I would expect something special. We had a plain curry (just fish in a smooth sauce) with rice and naan bread. I've been to fantastic curry places and even fish restaurants and not spent that much on a fish curry.

This is a great resturant. I can't understand why it is so low on the listings. The staff are friendly and attentive. The fish was brilliant. We were there for my birthday and what a great evening we had. Yes it is not a cheap resturant but you get what you pay for. Quality and service

Our son gave us a Christmas present of an afternoon tea for two. We booked two weeks in advance and arrived on time and were shown to a lovely table overlooking the bay. That was the best bit of the afternoon. The tea was very disappointing, the sandwiches were nice, but the scones were stale and very dense. The cakes were dry round the edges, possibly left over from the day before. There was a little pot of mousse with a packet boudoir biscuit stuck in it. Surely a hotel of this quality could produce a little homemade shortbread biscuit? The cafeterie of coffee was stewed and lukewarm. The cafeterie itself leaked when pouring the coffee and the coffee grouts leaked into the cup. Time for new cafeteries, perhaps? All in all a very disappointing experience which we will not be repeating.

Wednesday lunch in the sun at the Watering Hole. Had steak loaded fries with garlic sauce and crispy onion bits. Portion was huge we could have shared one to be honest. Never had a bad meal in the multiple times we've had breakfast, lunch or dinner here, top notch venue 👍

Had a hummus in pitta salad, and chips, at The Helston Grill last night, and my goodness, it was the best thing I've eaten in ages. Perfectly balanced, plentiful. The hummus was delicious, the pickled white cabbage the best I've ever eaten. Chips were hot, and really tasty. Thank you for a wonderful meal

Disappointing stay We stayed in Room Eight & we booked a double room. The room was basement level and was tiny with low ceilings, smelled heavily of chemicals and later mold. We had to keep the windows open but unfortunately the one small window opened out onto a busy road. The road was meters away from the window and the cars go fast, so it was really noisy day and time The bath was narrow and not full length and weirdly sticky. Really disappointed with our stay as we'd read such lovely reviews and the pictures (which are of different rooms to ours) looked so nice .

Fabulous fish - I had crab, scallops and sardines. Perfect for one! With some bread, of course. Started with a Cornish Pastis - that's right, aperitif, not meat and turnips in pastry. Very friendly service and a gorgeous view over the harbour as dusk fell. Cannot recommend strongly enough!!
