Nice cafe, excellent food, with attention to detail and quality. Just would be better if it felt less basic, and more cosier inside.

Lovely food, me and the kids all enjoyed it. It was very quiet in there which was a shame as the service was great!

Absolute Gem of a place!! Food was superb, service was perfect, and the overall feel of the place is fabulous and dog friendly. What really made it for me, was when I went to toilet before we left, there was a basket with sanitary towels in stating "these are free, take what you need"... as a woman this is a huge sigh of relief when you get caught out. HUGE WELL DONE TENGO!!! Will definitely be coming back here before we head home in a few days.

Soon as you walk in it's so peacefull. We love that we could bring our beautiful doggy Jessie. The food is fantastic the staff are great and very friendly. It's a gem of a cafe. Highly recommend coming here. It is very well priced too. The icing on the cake was when my partner went to the toilet she came back and said there was a little basket with sanitary towels and a note saying please help yourself. I totally disagree with woman having to pay for them and Cafe Tengo have done a great thing by putting them out for people who get caught short.If your in the area please make it a place to stop at you'll love it.

They have plant based milkshakes!! They also have sweet potato fries. The staff are very nice and the milkshake was made promptly. The menu is quite extensive and reasonable priced. I'll be back!

Nice dog friendly place, had small veggie breakfast and small meat breakfast, all well cooked, could have done with more butter for the toast, which is extra. Nice lattes.

Visited St Austell today for the festival of children literature. We didn't know the town but saw the huge rainbow flag outside and decided this was the place for us. The staff were super friendly. Everything in the menu looked lush and our meals didn't disappoint when they arrive. Food arrived in really good time and was delicious. Even the the back ground music was great. What a find.

Only ever been here once but was pleasantly surprised by the choice and portion size. Would definitely go again when in St Austell

I come in here a lot and have never had an issue until today. Three staff members, all seemed very nice and pleasant until I asked for something extra . This then descended into belittling me whilst I could hear it. I didn’t react but then I heard a further comment. Just before I left I asked if the toilet door was unlocked to which the response was, I will unlock it for you. I stood there and she shouted it’s open already. As I was walking upstairs all I heard was OMG that women and both giggling. My experience today has been awful to be honest, the younger staff need to be trained in how to treat customers. I will not be returning as they have made it so I cannot. Awful experience.

Lovely independent cafe, great food and choices

Not much to offer for Vegans unfortunately. A cake or something similar would be nice to go with the hot drinks. Clean and tidy inside, quick service.

Lovely little cafe. Food is good and the staff are friendly. They also do a 'pass it on' thing where you can buy something for someone who can't afford it. It goes on the board and if someone who is hungry goes in they can order without paying, it a great idea.

Very clean and the food was great. Only local place I know that does veggie sausages that are not pretending to be meat. They sausages are full of vegetables and the staff pride themselves on this.

We were walking in town on Sunday and the dog pulled us towards the door so we promised we’d come back on our walk. We popped in quickly for a couple of drinks and for a fuss to be made over the little furry fella. Having browsed the menu we saw the prices were very reasonable so went back today for breakfast and it didn’t disappoint.

What a lovely place! We stopped here while exploring the town because it was dog friendly. We were welcomed by friendly staff and ordered a couple of drinks. I would absolutely recommend the banana milkshake, one of the best I’ve ever had!! So thick and creamy. We will stop here again and order food next time, as the prices were very reasonable.

Had a BLT here for lunch. All food for our group of 6 was cooked fresh to order and came out quickly.

Lovely little Cafe, very friendly and welcoming, great coffee. We stopped in whilst on holiday, a quick pit stop to feed our baby granddaughter, after we couldn't get a seat at Costa as they had cleaned a couple of sections and shut them off and said we couldn't use them, this was at 4pm, we didn't find this little treasure till about 4.15pm still served us and no areas shut off and they closed at 4.30pm.

We popped in for a coffee and light lunch and very glad we did. There was a good choice for a small venue and all freshly prepared. It took a little bit of time for it to come out which is expected as freshly made and obvious who was in charge 'chasing up' the employees to ensure all ran smoothly. ( good for him ) We will be back as good to support local business's

The best vegan vanilla milk shake we've ever tasted and friendly service .But it was freezing cold so we didnt enjoy our visit. We asked to shut the door and were told it's got to stay open for ventilation !. Would visit again but only in the warm weather !

Visited this Cafe with my Mum for lunch. We had a wrap and jacket potato with a coffee and hot chocolate. The staff were friendly and allowed my Mother to put her motability scooter near the doorway so that we could keep it dry from the weather. Prices are very reasonable considering how much prices have gone up recently in other cafes. The drinks were nice and hot and well made, much better than the Costa down the road. The food was delicious my Mother said the jacket potato was tasty and had plenty of filling. The wrap was made with a delicious bacon and salad ,the only thing that could have improved it was if there was an option to warm it on the griddle. We were really impressed with the quality of food and speed of service. The toilets were clean and inclusive and both contained free period products for those that need them. I also noticed the cafe offers a water refill scheme where you can refill your reusable bottle for free, they have also done away with all plastic cutlery and take away containers. They also offer a meeting room upstairs that the local community can use for community based projects! This cafe is really showing the rest of cornwall how things can be done better! The atmosphere is friendly and inclusive and the facilities are clean. Next time you are in St. Austell go there and support local traders that are really competing with the bigger companies, i might even see you there as we are going back to try their cakes!

Easy to find, clean, polite staff, staff gave a friendly smile and warm welcome. Food was hot and what a great find. So many times in other eating establishments the food comes out warm. And decent portions. We will definitely use this place again.

Just went in for a drink whilst in St Austell. First time in Café Tengo. Only one's there at the time, drinks were good. No issues there. Only one thing put me off was the greasy smell when entering the cafe. Probably wouldn't go back but if you're in St Austell then give them a try. To be honest you don't have much of a choice in St Austell. The town's basically dead.

Popped in for a coffee and a snack, really comfy feel to the place and we're very welcoming of us and our baby (wife felt comfortable breastfeeding as well). Accidentally brought us an extra waffle and refused to let me pay for it then ran after someone who left a bag behind, proper job :) down for a few days and will come back if we're back in town

Had a lovely strong decaf coffee with oak milk and a great tasting bacon, Brie and cranberry toastie with side salad with mustard dressing. Only fault I can mention need to close the door as it was extremely cold had to wear coats. The food was lovely.

Went in today with my daughter and young grandson no one else in the cafe apart from 2 people at the till talking to the female that works there the language was disgusting by all 3 no respect for customers no wonder the place was empty Will never go there again

The best chicken wrap I've had so far

I love the new outside decor, it has a nod to the clay industry with tiles and plants which looks lovely. It is a normal cafe serving everything you would expect. The breakfasts are freshly cooked and well presented, The coffee is really good and they have oatmilk (hurray!) They have comfy seats and dogs are welcomed with a bowl of water and a treat. I feel very comfortable at this place and the staff are welcoming.

Came to this place after an other one let us down in town. Boyfriend had a special breakfast and he liked it!! I had a special request and staff was very accommodating. Waffles with bacon and mushroom and cheese! In my opinion everyone should try it 😊

Nice place and you can get a small coffee which is great as sometimes a regular is too much. Music a bit loud.

Such a lovely cafe. I went in with my 5 children, ranging from 18 month to 11 years. They were so family friendly! Not an eye brow was raised. Despite the baby being in the grumpiest mood ever! Food was super tasty and fresh! I think the staff really deserve a giant pat on the back for not only great food but the incredibly kind and welcoming costumer service! Thank you! It could have been a very different experience in the hands of less kind staff and compassionate staff.

Last time I was in St Austell I ate meat, so coming here as a vegan was a shock, but actually discovering that this cafe had a vegan breakfast made it all a little better! The scrambled tofu was a very good attempt, especially by a cafe that mainly sells meat options! I’d like to see perhaps an option of a vegetable sausage or a meat alternative, as I prefer alternatives rather than ones with veggies in. (Yes I hate mushrooms so they’re being eaten for me here. Apparently very good though!).

Good corner location for cafe. Slightly offhand welcome and no clean tables, but one was cleared for us on request. I though the food was very good, nothing special in style but fresh, hot & tasty. All cooked to order, so some delay is to be expected. I though his a good place for a simple easy lunch.

Dog friendly. Very friendly, good service, clean restaurant. Smoothies and cream tea were great. Waitress gave the dogs some snacks and then asked if they wanted a drink . I requested milk and they happily obliged.

Well what can you say. First impressions speak volumes really. We popped in looking to support a local independent trader. No smiling greetings, despite them not being busy. We were looking at the menu to decide what to have. I asked if I could use the toilet 'after you've ordered' came the reply from a rather sullen faced woman. We ordered ....then I was permitted to use the toilet.....the staircase leading to the rest rooms smelt disgusting! Toilet facilities were in need of a repaint and a clean. Came down and waited rather a while for drinks....latte and two bottles of sparking drink ...we were given latte glasses to use 🤔 Then came out food, we ordered three toasties, one of which was served on white bread instead of brown as per order. We had side salad with it but the sweetcorn on it was revolting 🤢 We will certainly not be returning again or recommending.

Second time visiting this lovely Cafe. Atmosphere is always very friendly, and the staff are bright and cheerful. Food is very reasonably priced and very tasty. I highly recommend the waffles. Light and fluffy, they are perfect for a breakfast treat. The breakfast wraps and milkshakes are also a solid choice. Will definitely be returning.

This was really bad. Called in for lunch and began to regret the decision when ordering (and unfortunately pre-paying for food)… two of us had baked potatoes with tuna/Mayo - mine was undercooked but my wife’s was actually still frozen! She took it back - the waitress took the plate, microwaved it and handed it back - same potato, same tuna, same salad - we both left our meals. My son had a BLT wrap - it was poor. My coffee was barely warm and served in a dirty cup. Was going to complain but there were no adults present - just 3 young girls complaining that they were trying to do “a hundred things at once”……not sure what those things were but they did not include cooking or washing up! Avoid as this cafe/restaurant is truly terrible.

So so happy this cafe is open again absolutely the best in st Austell nothing is ever too much trouble, great atmosphere, great food, friendly welcome every time ☺️☺️

Cannot believe review I just read about this excellent cafe. How does anyone not realise that cafe toilets need to be shut! I guess they would also complain if the food cost more to allow a permanent cleaner for the toilets. This awful virus comes with people unfortunately and we need to take great care, customers and particularly the staff who get exposed every day. This cafe is one of the best in St Austell and is open for us. Look after the owners for us and we will have them for a long time. Lots happening in St Austell too...can't wait to see the changes!

Absolutely rude lady staff member - mind boggling customer service Went to buy a coffee and a water and use the bathroom Berated by a staff member for using the toilet which had no lock or sign to say closed Would never go back as customer skills zero

Great little cafe with a big heart.... I had a sausage sandwich, my partner had jacket potato with cheese and coleslaw, both cooked fresh, could not wish for anything more. Fully recommend this little gem.

We were visiting St Austell overnight and had missed lunch. Went into town centre and found Tengo at 3.45pm. We asked if they were still providing cooked food. Staff were wlcoming and cheery and told us they were stopping at 4pm but still 15 minutes so fine. We had very good ham,eggs and chips and were told to take our time There was no rush even though we were still there when they were due to close . Graet o find such a cheerful and welcoming place on a cold winter afternoon.

We have had a coffee or snack here several times but the last time was - the last! The was a "we are complacent" feel when we went in. The staff don't inspire confidence, tossing a loaf of bread in front of us, having just ordered two bacon sandwiches. We were served two terrible cold bacon sandwiches, followed by two luke warm coffees. I don't mind mistakes but the staff were awful; very dreary and almost unable to speak to us properly. There is a "hippy" type feel to this place and we won't be going back. To their credit, we did get a full refund but the staff/managers need to connect with the customer better. We made it very clear to the one other customer (what does that tell you...) that we were not happy. Terrible experience from a cafe which has previously been at least reasonable.

Came in for a coffee by myself today whilst doing my shopping and it was a lovely coffee and the staff made the visit! A young man and two young ladies working really friendly conversation made me feel welcome! I will be coming back here again

Walked into the cafe the girl behind the counter said sit down and will take your order . So we sat patiently waiting we were the only customers . Another customer came in and ordered 2 bacon sandwiches to take out . order was taken and the other girl who seemed to be sorting a display shelf out said can you put some bacon on . The other girl then walked off to get some bread 20 minutes is to long to be ignored so we left and went in a superb cafe and had 2 lovely cooked breakfasts . Malcolm Barnecutt bakery just down the same road on the same side.

Came across this cafe and extremely enjoyed it! Was a bit of a wait for our food, however it was busy with it being a bank holiday monday and they were extremely helpful and apologetic over our weight. Would definitely recommend and eat here again! Cant beat service with a smile!!!

What a shame...This place has been around for years and used be a quality cafe to visit.My partner and I came here for a breakfast last week. Although the staff were friendly enough, unfortunately the horrific bad hygiene of the place massively outweighed anything that may have been any good. There were areas of the cafe that had obviously not been touched for quite some time. The toilet was foul smelling and looked disgusting.Every time I think of this experience, I feel sick. Clean up your act.

We chanced upon this cafe whilst amberlling through St Austell, and thought why not.The staff are friendly and very helpful, and the setting next to the church is perfect.We all had a decent meal, cooked very well and very quickly.Unlike some places they do decaf coffee and tea which is a bonus.What I really liked about this cafe was there Pay It Forward board, you buy a coffee or tea for someone else in need and place a tag on the board. I wish more places where this forward thinking of those who have fallen on hard times and need a helping hand. Bravo and well done for this excellent idea.Thank you for a lovely relaxed meal in great company.

Ordered a breakfast with chipolatas & a baguette, were told it would be 10 minutes !! 25 minutes later out comes 2 breakfast’s & no baguette, no cutlery, a further 10 minutes & I’d finished my nearly cold breakfast & still no baguette? Asked for our baguette money back & left, the breakfast to be honest would have been fine if it was hot, as for the service it was not good, & the place needs a really good deep clean, especially the toilets thumbs definitely down for me, go to Wetherspoons .

Popped in here while we were waiting for the car to have a new tyre fitted.

I dropped in this morning for breakfast and had a kids breakfast. The staff were very accommodating of my dietary requirements and didn’t leave me feeling like I was any trouble. The breakfast was all cooked perfectly, the cafe was clean, and they had a very tempting range of cakes and slices on display. I have previously had a jacket potato here was was fluffy and delicious, and the homemade coleslaw was amazing! Everything is very reasonably priced, definitely worth a trip!

Not been in this place for a long time. Got a latte coffee which was very nice. Served to the table, no little extras though such as the mini biscuit or sugar. Felt very much like an old fashioned cafe.

We recently moved to the St Austell area from the Midlands and wanted to find a decent cafe to have our regular weekend treat of an all day breakfast. We found cafe Tengo, a fledgling company with a young couple who had recently taken over the management.

My partner and I visited here today as we know the owners, and wanted some quick tasty non 'fast' food.

We received a warm welcome, the service was excellent as were the food and drinks. Nice to sit and watch the shoppers passing by

On asking if they had any gluten free bread was given a straight "NO" .Had a jacket potato with prawns. No flavour and tasteless. On a positive note, the coffee was hot.

Had to Google somewhere for breakfast on Sunday, as with a lot of tiny towns down south, lots of places were closed but Tengo were open! Lovely staff, lovely breakfast and I sent my parents in the days after. So I would and have recommended it.

Always walk past this place wanting to try it, so today I did and I had a small English breakfast, staff were friendly, food was done in good time and I enjoyed it. Would go back to try other meals.

Popped into Tengo on a rainy Sunday morning looking for some lunch and a coffee. We enjoyed the best bacon and brie sandwich that we've had. The bacon was crisp, the bread thick and the brie nice and gooey. Had a nice cappuccino to go with it.

Finally a tasty meal! This friendly, laidback cafe is excellent for people watching with a nice cuppa. My salad and toasted sandwich were delicious- a rare find in a bland culinary landscape. Also well priced. A gem.

Fish was over cooked rock hard batter not much fish tasted like reformed really bad worst meal I ever had plus cost nearly £20 if you want a good meal go to white Hart or the market loads better value and value for money

Popped in today with my partner and our daughter for a late lunch. The service was great and the food was lovely and freshly cooked (we all had all-day breakfasts). We found it to be reasonably priced and would definitely pop in again if we are ever in the area.

Popped in to ST Austells for a look around and to grab a bite to eat. Stumbled across this cafe which was dog friendly. A warm welcome by the staff, nice establishment with a nice menu.

Friendly staff, good coffee and relaxed atmosphere. We were a little concerned that the waitress picked up the cakes with her hands and didn’t use tongs. Nice to sit on the window and look out.

Went in to have some coffee and a cake. As we are waiting for the cake, we watch the staff pick up our cake with her hands after being on her phone. Not great hygiene at all. However drinks were nice

We go to Café Tengo from time to time, it is really relaxed and friendly there and a great place to watch the world go by. The coffee is the best around and there is a good menu for breakfast and lunch as well as cakes. If you are vegan then there are some vegan cakes and teacakes, plant milk and the last time we visited there was vegan soup and jacket potato on offer. The café has been under new ownership since October 2017. It's a happy, welcoming place and we would recommend it!

2 coffee's and 2 brownies for a £10. certainly not worth it. Service OK and you can look out the window, there must be better places in the town.

Called in for an early lunch whilst waiting for a delayed train. Known of it for years, never tried it. Very pleased with the quality of the food which was fresh, tasty, interesting & nicely served. Order at the counter, served at the table. Dog...

Great snacks, reasonably priced. Shame it closes at 4pm. Needed a little more heating! Helpful staff.
