Tender Cow in Trafford

We have been regular customers of Tender for years and have never had a bad meal. The food is consistently excellent and of a very high quality, and the staff are all super friendly and really know how to produce top notch steaks and more. A special shout out goes to Eva, who is always so friendly and helpful and has flourished into a promising chef herself, but she’s part of a fab team. 😀 The Market is always buzzing and we love having this place on our doorstep. You get what you pay for, in our view. Brilliant!

I visit Tender Cow often and am never not impressed by their food. The steak is top quality, always cooked to perfection, and their sides are a particular favourite: recently had the corn ribs and english leaf salad and both were a perfect accompaniment!

Food is very nice but wish they could offer a totally plain steak rather than pre-marianted. Went on a Saturday and had to wait quite a while for the food. Not a great fan of the market but that's not their fault!

Has put me off the Alti market. Why would I pay £20 for a lazy, fat-logged burger with no extras, feel ripped-off, get a migraine of the gut from the fat of it . . . when I could go anywhere in Hale or some restaurants in Alti and get a decent meal by paying a bit more? That's the thought I'm having right now, sat in a café, trying to get my stomach and palate recalibrated with an IV of mint tea. I mean, if I was drunk at a festival and TC was the only place to get food - fair enough. If the burger was £8 from the side of an ice-cream van parked outside my works at 5am - yes, no qualms from me. But for what it was? At £20. No. Has certainly put me off the market food court and I won't bother with there again. As much as I like to help small businesses it's moments like this that makes me want to only eat at Spoon's. As an added thought: Wouldn't be surprised if the bad reviews came from sober people; and the good ones from drunk ones.

The greatest steak I've ever had! Wonderful service and amazing staff, thank you!!! Came out with a group of 10 and every steak came out perfect. The peppercorn sauce they do is out of this world! Had a couple of the sides. Tomato salad and aubergine are delicious.

Waited 50 minutes for a bacon bap. No idea how it takes so long to cook 2 bits of bacon. Wish I had read reviews before ordering, as they don’t let you know how ridiculously long the wait is at the time of ordering.

Service is absolutely atrocious, guys working clearly don’t give a monkeys. 45 minutes for a very rubbish steak Over priced Other venues are great, reasonable and can serve in a reasonable time

A bit meaty for us but we do like the chips!

At first glance, this seemed really good, however after getting home and checking the receipt,I discovered they charged £16.00 for asparagus on toast with 2 poached eggs. We were all pretty sure it said £6.00 so I suppose all 4 of us could have read the blackboard wrong lyrics, or maybe it wasn't written clearly. Yes , i thought it was expensive when I paid, but hadn't done the maths at the time and was eager to eat. That will teach me! I did get a response from them explaining the kind of asparagus used, but 16 quid for 4 spears, 1 slice of sourdough toast and 2 poached eggs is beyond belief! I will never go there again.

Just visited here for tea. Have eaten from here in previous years and it was good food, hence we returned. After ordering, we waited over 40 minutes and still had not received our order, despite our friends having ordered from other food outlets at the same time and received and eaten their food. Returned to the tender cow outlet to find out how much longer our order would be. I was horrified to watch the staff playing with customers food: picking up chips off customers’ plates ( which were waiting to be served) and playing with them. This seemed totally disrespectful and unhygienic (I’m sure the staff wouldn’t like to eat at a restaurant knowing their food was being manhandled unnecessarily)! I was told after 45 minutes of waiting that my meal would be with me in 2 minutes. Another 20 minutes later, no food and I had lost my appetite ( not least because of seeing their poor hygiene standards) ! I went back and asked for a refund to which the server told me that my meal had been delivered already! Insult to injury , I felt obliged to argue and prove that my meal had not been brought to our table and it must have been mistakenly delivered to another table. Eventually the server accepted that we had not had our meal and agreed to refund us. She apologised, but ‘sorry’ didn’t satiate my hunger or allay my annoyance at ruining our evening. Needless to say, I went home hungry but, tbh, after seeing the poor standard of hygiene when handling food, I think I dodged a bullet and definitely won’t attempt to ever eat here again.

Great place for an inpromptu meet up with a friend or friends. Food better than average and great ambiance. Good choice of food and beverages, well worth a visit

We waited 30 minutes for our order - the steak sandwich came first, and several minutes later the fries arrived (we’d eaten half the sandwich by that time).

Would give it 10 out of 5 if I could. Quite simply the best breakfast I’ve ever had. The ambience in the market only adds to the occasion. The beef sausage is a must. Bravo - awesome. Will be back!

Never had a better sandwich compliments to the chef.

The guy who served me this morning couldn’t give less of a damn about customers. When asked about allergens, just shrugged and said “dunno” - and then when asked to swap something just in case, he just said “no.” Nothing else. Honestly Altrincham Market has never been the cheapest of places, but the price vs quality of food is ridiculous when given the context of the service I received at Tender Cow. Altrincham Market is trying to sell an experience, and food stations who couldn’t care less about their customers don’t really add to that.

Just had a quick takeaway breakfast. Absolutely amazing food! OMG! Best meat dishes in altrincham hands down.

Everyone rates this place, but my steak was COLD and way too salty. It is difficult to get seats at Altrigham food market on a Saturday. Overpriced for steak and chips. Basic pub food. Would not eat again.

The beef sausage and egg bun is great. Will be trying something off the lunch menu next time

Food was a little slow but very friendly waiters. I enjoyed my bacon and egg sandwich and the hash brown was cooked perfectly but i didnt enjoy it as much as it was a large oblong so the surface area to volume ratio was all off and it wasnt the most enjoyable experience. Change the shape and it will be perfect :)

Amazing steak and triple cooked chips. Worthy ever penny. You pay twice as much to get a steak this good in a nice restaurant.

ITH NO DERESSING AND NO SALTI VISIT ALTRINCHAM MARKET ON A REGULAR BASIS. INCLUDING TWO RECENT VISITS ONE WEEK APART.LSOON THE FIRST OCCASION MY FRIEND ORDERED FOR HIMSELF AND ALSO FOR ME. I ASKED FOR A STEAK WITH NO DRESSING. IT TASTED SALTY AND I THEN DISCOVERED IT HAD BEEN DRESSED WITH ROCK SALT. ON THE SECOND VISIT I ASKED FOR A STEAK WITHE NO DRESSING AND NO SALT. IT WAS COVERED IN GARLIC BUTTER - AN ABOMINATION THAT I PARTICULARLY ABHOR. I RETURNED SO THAT THEY COULD DO WITH IT WHATEVER WAS THEIR HEART'S DESIRE. WHY DO PEOPLE IN RESTAURANTS FEEL THAT THEY HAVE TO ADD ALL SORTS OF STUIFF LIKE GARLIC, PESTO, MAYONNAISE ETC..? IS IT BECAUSE THEY HAVE SEEN SOME 'CELEBRITY' CHEF DO IT ON TV.?

Burgers have been terrible the last two occasions. The beef has obviously not been de-gristled before mincing. It’s also minced on too big a mincer plate, so you get the gristle in your mouth. Very tough also. Flavour non existent. It really is a burger that needs completely reworking from, meat, mincer, flavour, toppings. Staff can also be up their own backside, they act like they are changing the world, they are flipping burgers.

This was not a good experience, unfortunately. The eggs were overcooked, the butter was on its way to being rancid and, although the sourdough toast was good, £6 for a tiny bit of smoked salmon was outrageous!! I won't be back.

Horrible service! They first charge you without advising how long it take to get the food. I waited for 30 min to get a steak and then ordered extra bread which had to wait another 10 min to get the bread! I complained and their response was if i still want the bread!!

I love TC’s burgers! I was really hoping that this would be the same quality as the Tender Cow in Mackie Mayor. Unfortunately, the quality wasn’t as good mid week. The burger was soggy and the chips were over salted. Hoping this was a temporary blip.

Third time we have been and excellent as always - fresh and tasty, quick service despite being busy.

Unfortunately overpriced for an average English breakfast. Was good but for £15 it felt a bit steep... The meat was good quality but just not enough of it. Probably about 15 baked beans in a tiny pot, however Hash brown was amazing can't fault that.

Have to say disappointed with the food. Asked for a Crispy bacon,and egg on sour dough. Waiting Tim was fine about 10 minutes,but the Hall had no heating on and it was very cold and drafty. 2 slices of non crispy bacon on a buttered Bap wasn't what I asked for. Very overpriced at £8.50. We won't be returning.

No customer care, very bad attitude, steak swimming in sauce. Other restaurants would and do welcome feedback. It's how they stay open. Not here. It has good choice of food but the Steak sandwich was smothered in loads of sauce. No one wants 27 tonnes of sauce, you had to find the steak. Way too much sauce, no standards before food sent out. It could have been cardboard, you couldn't taste the meat, which made it pointless. At these prices you hope they had some skills? I took back the food to offer feedback, and they couldn't care. Zero care. They just said ok. And ignored us....No refund, no replacement. In Lisbon we sent back a steak for a similar issue and the owner's came out to thank us, to adapt, to keep customers. A free replacement, and we return lots to that restaurant. No customer ...no business. So we won't go back. Others restaurants would act, welcome feedback and offer some service. Not here. The Market is a bit boring, and very limited breakfast options. A nice cafe is just outside the Market on a corner, so we all use that.

Ordered steak and eggs (£18) the steak was nice, the eggs were to cooked, and that’s it, nothing else comes with it (there is sauce, too much, too oily) for a pricey plate you could expect more, I won’t recomend it.

Best steak sandwich I have ever eaten.

Food is excellent. Not the cheapest place you'll ever eat at but the quality is exceptional.

1st time visiting today, I went for the steak sandwich and wow easily the best steak sandwich I have ever had, steak was prepared beautifully, the bread was lovely and the butter and sauce complimented is so well. May try the steak and eggs next

Great bacon sandwitch- however after paying 7 quid and it not having the sauce I requested- I went up and asked for this and the blonde lady did not say a word to me, only squirting some sauce into a pot (not helpful for a sandwich) before turning away. Great to treat paying customers with such contempt.

After a beautiful bike ride through the lanes of Cheshire I decided to have a coffee and a “butty” in what was the market hall in Altrincham. The Tender Cow is the breakfast option here so I ordered a bacon sandwich, though priced at £6.50 which I thought a little “strong” , but what the heck. After a little negotiation regarding the bread being toasted the “buttie” arrived after 10 minutes. No napkin, no knife, no option of any sauces. If £6.50 is the going rate then one would expect the above. It’s a great venue (the market hall) but possibly in my experience more style over content.

Love love love the steak ciabatta and the sustainably produced meats are definitely worth the extra cost.

My daughter attended the restaurant this evening ordered a flat iron steak which was so tough she only ate 2 pieces out of 7 then asked the staff if this was meant to be that tough they said they wont cook another one has she had eating enough 2 pieces only then the staff were basically laughing at her.there attitudes were pretty disgusting avoid at all costs plus this is not the end of the matter as my daughter has got nearly 120000 followers on Instagram etc which she has posted on tender cow you should be ashamed of yourselves BIG MISTAKE I THINK

The food is tasty but by Jove do these guys have some attitude! Such a poor level of service for the price. Not going again when there are so many other lovely places to eat in Alty.

Food O.K., a bit pricy for what you get.

Lovely fish and chips, but £14 is a bit pricey, still can't beat the Don for price and taste, bigger fish and bigger chips, would only use tender cow as a treat

I always go to Altrincham Market with good intentions: "this time, I will try something else." More often than not, I end up having the Tender Cow Burger again, because it never fails to delight. Just writing this is making my mouth water! TENDER COW PLEASE NEVER CHANGE

Honestly this was the best avocado on toast I've ever had! It tasted insane and was much more filling than I expected! Loved it so much my boyfriend ended up forgetting ordering the same thing! On arrival you will be asked to pat a service charge of £1 per person if eating. This was understandable as you got a table to yourself which normally you wouldn't. They then give you a bag with a carton of still water and clean cutlery. To order you can either download the alt.eats app or if your phone is majorly slow like mine just go on alt.eats online, create an account and order to your table. So easy and simple once you get your head round it. I ordered tea from another vendor but all came in good time. Will definitely be back here again!

With an hour to kill and dinner still to eat, I decided to visit Altrincham Market to see if it lived up to the hype. And in fairness, I can see why people rave about it - it’s buzzy, with a lovely vibe, and if you like that casual quality then it’s good. From my own perspective, and it is a personal view, I don’t really like having to negotiate for table space and having to hope that nobody steals your space whilst you sort out your food order - so maybe it’s particularly unsuited to solo diners. That said, I couldn’t fault the food or service at Tender Cow. A couple of very affable, cool, young guys helped me through what initially seemed to be an unduly complicated menu, and I had a perfectly nice chicken burger and chips. So a great place to eat on an informal basis and without having to hang around for ages, but it’s not the place for an intimate, quite dinner for two. Horses (or tender cows) for courses, I guess.

This is the same review as I posted for Market House.In light of what's going on at present we decided to visit for lunch to support local businesses.Not once did staff wash their hands and were continually handling food and touching their hair and mobile phones.This is surely important at the best of times never mind during our present crisis? Not impressed!

Tough as Old Boots Cow would be more accurate - what a shame I’ve eaten here many times - and something rather sad has happened- either cost cutting as steak is all about the quality of the product - or your supplier is taking the Mick !!! Either way you’ve lost 5 customers on one table tonight ! Not be making that mistake again in a hurry !! Not helped either by the less than helpful chap taking the orders - he’d be better served getting a job as a traffic warden ! Three of us made the mistake of having the Flat Iron steaks .... two others on our table had the same battle attempting to cut through it with the steak knives provided ! (Good job youd have no chance with a standard knife!!)

Food is OK but the man who serves the breakfast very rude. Not just once either many times I have now stopped eating there because of this man there is no need for it at all a few regulars I no have said the same it's not acceptable.

I went to the new Macclesfield branch and was only served half a meal. £16 for some overcooked lamb chops. Holy cow. They wanted another £5 for some potatoes and again another £5 for some vegetables. I suggest they disclose the fact that they are not serving you a full meal at point of purchase. At which point I'd be going elsewhere that doesn't take the p*** out of its customers. Needless to say I won't be going back.

Tender Cow is my favourite place to eat at Altrincham Markets. I would highly recommend coming here. They do some of the best steak I've had in my life! I would also recommend the triple cooked chips and avacado side. But you can't go wrong with any item on the menu - it's all very well done.

Maybe reading these reviews Tender Cow just had a bad day yesterday ...we ordered the Steak Sandwich; Beef Shin and advocado on toast ....first thing to note was that the girl who was taking the orders was really off-hand ..like she was doing us a favour by taking it (I mean I know it's a very popular place to eat ..but crack a smile and drop the attitude...we even got an eye roll when we didn't have the table number to hand..) Food was ok - great poached egg ...steak sandwich was fine ...chips were totally over seasoned but were replaced really quickly. Just a disappointing experience ..where style won over substance.

Just a quick review. Amazing little hidden gem spot for Brunch. Highly recommended found inside the market hall in Altrincham

First visist would go back tomorrow. Beautiful sandwich with quality ingredients where you could taste everything that went into it. Chips were fantastic to. The Mrs had a lamb wrap that she enjoyed as well. Did take a little time for food to arrive but in terms of quality exceptional. Not sure how its possible from such a small unit. Not local will return.

Had the best steak in Altrincham, when asked how I like it .? replied “how the chef thinks his food should be served and wasn’t disappointed. The steak sandwich simply melted in your mouth. Loved the free water side. Really enjoyed it

WOW! In Manchester, you HAVE to order the Hanger Steak and the smoked Sweet Potato side is a nice addition as well as fries, DELICIOUS!!

Over priced and Luke warm when it arrives To be told it has to stand before surving. Rubbish, her attitude was rude, when I mentioned it. no meat should be survived Luke warm. It was just forgotten on the side.

I had the flat iron steak roll and avocado salad with mustard seeds. Both were delicious and the soft roll and meat was perfect.

We had Steak and Egg, and Lamb Sausage on a flatbread - they were both excellent, and the chips. All in all we had a fabulous lunch

Thought we'd go to Alrtincham market and ended up at the food hall. I tried the short rib it was so tasty and with added spice it was brilliant. My wife had the avocado on toast again it was good. We'll definitely return.

OK, not sure which I liked more the fresh cut three times cooked fries (Chips) or the perfectly seasoned and rested flat iron-steak. Both were great and I finished them. I will warn you on my first night three of my friends ordered the burger, all of them said it was just ok, I ordered the flat Iron. Three of us went back another night and all ordered the flat-Iron and the other two said it was the best meal they had all week. None of us ordered it rare as suggested, we ordered medium and it was perfect.

Part of the artisan group in Altrincham Market House, a really nice cooked flat iron steak or a rather splendid burger. Thrice cooked chips and a variety of veg dishes. Might be considered to be slightly expensive, but worth supporting. Bringing the evening economy to Altrincham.

Lovely atmosphere chairs abit unsteady,but food was delish. Expensive comparative to a restaurant but without the luxury but all the flavors. Staff friendly. Food was spot on and not what you expect a sausage sandwich to taste like but well worth the wait!!

Absolutely fabulous steak and burgers. They are definitely worth the calories.

I wouldn't have ordered a burger at Alty Market normally (or anywhere else for that matter, because the experience is mostly underwhelming and the burger never lives up to its billing) but after pizza fatigue and in some serious need of comfort food my wife suggested 'why not have the burger' and against my better judgement - I thought what is there to lose. After some second thoughts which were mitigated when I saw them cook the meat patties I went ahead.

These guys can cook steak! Then combine that with an amazing roll, fantastic onion relish and some of the best chips you will ever eat it's an absolute winner!

Fresh ingredients, clean food and triple fried chips worth trying, always consistent with steak and the breakfast menu, a little pricey for casual food but you get what you pay for and good food and very pleasent staff.

I had a burger and it was alright, not earth shattering but especially so as I was incredibly overcharged for my meal. A fact I didn’t notice until I checked my account statement. I’m highly unimpressed.

The steak, the fries, the salads .... Always amazing and they were perfect again. Prices have sneaked up a bit, but when it's this good and ever popular, I guess they can. Simple...but stunning.

A group of friends and I visited Altrincham Market today after investigating the place online. Travelling over 30 miles to visit I was impressed by the layout and atmosphere of the market. Less impressive was the food I ordered from Tender Cow. The ‘triple cooked chips’ were barely cooked at all, and all that was served to me was clearly the scrag ends of a batch. Just small hard bits of chips, while everyone around had regular looking chips. It was that lack of respect for the customer that left a bad taste in my mouth...or was that the burger?!

Having being a "fillet steak" girl, I was persuaded to try the hanger steak with café de Paris butter... Omg.. It was amazing, along with the purple sprouting broccoli & triple cooked chips I'll deffo be back xx Thank you

Delicious steak with acceptable price...

Quite simply the best steak I have tasted in England.The only place that I've tasted better was a Michellin restaurant in Sligo Ireland.
