We enjoyed tea and scones in the tea room after walking round the estate. The scones were large and the jam was lovely. The tearoom is in a traditional room within the house and had a nice atmosphere.

We arrived at 2.55pm. We waited until 3.05pm to be served. I asked for a sandwich, but was told that they had stopped serving sandwiches at 3pm. Later, at 3.30pm we witnessed some other customers who arrived and asked for a cup of tea. They were told that there were no more orders being taken because they were closing at 4pm.

Had a lovely lunch at this beautiful tea room today. I had gluten free tuna and sweetcorn sandwich with sides of salad and coleslaw and a beautiful gluten free Victoria sponge cake for desert. Will definitely return and recommend.

We had afternoon tea for 6 for a family birthday. A lovely selection of huge sandwiches (sweet potato one our favourite), tasty scones and cake, with plenty of tea to wash it down with. Not a typical dainty afternoon tea but very generous portions - extremely good value for £17 a head! Fruit scones and locally made tayberry jam were the highlight. Staff were lovely and had the perfect balance on being attentive but not overly so. Even packed up the bits we couldn't manage to take away. Highly recommended but don't eat too much earlier in the day!!!

Afternoon tea was disappointing. Door stop sandwiches with crusts on, massive cheese scone and a couple of slices of uninspiring cake. For £17 a head I’d hoped for something a little daintier…at least cut the crusts off the sandwiches. Glorious building.

I had a lunchtime snack but catching the eye of a waiter was difficult. Eventually I ordered a sandwich and a mug of milky coffee. The coronation chicken sandwich with white bread was huge. The trimmings included salad grown in the walled garden. I enjoyed the sandwich etc but then I had to catch the eye of one of the three waiters in order to pay my bill. Usually a waiter is allocated a groupof tables to look after but this did not apply at this tea room.

Had a takeaway lunch as we had our furry friends with us. Friendly, efficient service. The sandwiches were freshly made and delicious. The Victoria sponge was gorgeous and rounded off with a cup of tea. We were under cover in the marquee as it was a drizzly day but it was a lovely lunch in fabulous surroundings. Well worth visit to the hall and grounds. Well done to all the knowledge and professional volunteers too. We will return.

Asked if we could book afternoon tea for 4 as I was celebrating my birthday we were all very disappointed we were not expecting it to come out in the usual style of a cake stand and understood it was a takeaway the sandwiches were cut into 4 in each box to share the cake was 4 bar cakes just each slice cut into very small triangles not indulgent and apart from the lemon and elderflower the other cake slices were quite dry the sandwiches were lovely and so was the scone with jam and cream I was told by another couple after we had ordered and paid it wasnt good value and afterwards totally agree. Yes we are in a pandemic but after having afternoon tea many times in the tea room pre covid i would not buy again but instead of packets it would be nice to see afternoon tea presented in a box for each person rather than all having to share from the same box of sandwiches and the cake bars/slices just in packets

I went to the Hall for the day - I was so impressed as was my friend with the cleanliness of all the areas, particularly ladies loos....everything thoughtfully done e.g soap and floral decorations. The cafe was a delight, the food exceptional in flavours of the soup, sandwiches and later the cake. The best quality I would say I have experienced and I have had a lot of experience in eating cake particularly!!!! The presentation of the food on traditional crockery was charming. Staff gentley spoken and accomodating which made the whole experience a great success for my friend and myself. I would recommend a visit to Kiplin Hall for anyone - many thanks for the lovely visit we enjoyed.

My friend and I shared an afternoon tea with a cafetierre My friend and I visited hoping for a hot lunch but they were only serving cold food. We shared an afternoon tea which was ample for our appetites. A good choice of sandwiches, a delicious scone and an extremely large piece of cake. The coffee was very tasteful too. We viewed the house which we found very interesting only to return to the tea room for homemade ice cream served with a homemade biscuit. Well worth the indulgence.

Went to kiplin to see the flower festival. Very nice flower displays. Had coffee and scones in tea room. No menus on table and scones were not fresh that day but coffee was good. Waiting staff seemed a little disorganised and not familiar with how to operate a laptop so we could pay. Not impressed by sugar cubes being stored by the public toilets or boxes of crockery.

i have been to the tea room at Kiplin Hall 3 times now, last year - 2017 was rubbish because of no supervision of the teenagers they employed and the silly ipad type of ordering, neither of which worked. I have just been for the first time this year and it was a lot better organised, the waiting staff were more 'on the ball', polite and paper ordering pads, so ok at the moment. the lady at the till was more polite than last year's very rude lady, the cheese scone and tea were ok. the toilet is ok, but could be cleaner, the outside toilets they have are not good at all, cold and unclean - and it's the beginning of the season so should not be like that. the manager's of Kiplin Hall needs to get their act together and get some cleaning done and keep it clean, and the 'doggy' smell in the back hall where the toilets are (inside) is not good and was the same last year, which is why we didn't go back after our 2 bad visits.

Just inside the front door and open daily from February. Best to chose a 'comfy' chair as some of the chairs are a little hard ! Nice clean table with an easy to follow menu. The two waitresses were most attentive and even ran after me with my forgotten walking stick. You get what you pay for and we had a most enjoyable afternoon tea all home baked. Sandwiches are served with an impressive garnish so again you get what you pay for. We did not see any children around but there are facilities freely available and there is a system where children can receive a portion of what their parents are eating but at a reduced price.

Coffee was good though at only £5 for two.

I'm sure that I speak for the many who took the trip to Kiplin Hall last Thursday (31st Aug), when I say what a thoroughly enjoyable experience it was.The place is closed on Thursdays and Fridays for organized outings, such as ours, and I'm sure that this is where their expertise lies. Tea and coffee layed on on arrival, followed by a short talk on the history of the place. And then a guided tour followed by a high tea-type lunch. The afternoon was left to us to explore the surroundings, including the walled garden, the lake and numerous secluded areas. Marvelous time, can't thank you enough.

i have given 3 stars because the food is nice, but employing 3 teenagers to serve in the tea room is a silly idea, a lazy boy, and dippy girls, the ipads for ordering are a heck of a lot slower to use and really don't work in such a small tea room, there was no excuse for the 3 staff members not taking our order - they went to 3 other tables before us that the people had arrived after us - my daughter had to go and ask them to come over to us, there are only 8 tables so not exactly huge... we had finished eating our sandwiches before the drinks finally arrived... the toilets were dirty, the walls never washed and paper everywhere, not up to the standard they should be, it is what happens when no one takes responsibility for things, bit silly to save money by employing young people who really have No hygiene and No interest in Customer Service, not happy at all.

We called at Kiplin Hall to break a journey up after a weekend at Barnard Castle. We had a good walk around before we went into the house so had built up an appetite. we all had different things from the menu and all enjoyed what we had. The tea room was very quiet on the day we visited as it was a wet wednesday in February so there was plenty of room but i can imagine it being a bit small on a warm sunday in july. There was a good selection of dishes other than a limited choice of cakes, we had the soup with a cheese scone before our visit to the gardens and then cofee with coffee cake afterwards. There is also no latte or cappuccino or wide selection of teas as you would normally get in a cafe so that was a bit disappointing, also the prices are a bit expensive. The staff are all very friendly.

We enjoyed a wonderful afternoon in the Tea Room at Kiplin Hall following a talk by Lucy Adlington of The History Wardrobe. This was a booked event scheduled on a day when Kiplin is not normally open to the public so we felt very privileged. Tea was a traditional combination of dainty sandwiches, scones and cakes but this is also available as Lady Tyrconnel's Afternoon Tea on normal opening days (Sunday to Wednesday). Do pick up a leaflet or visit the web site for special events at Kiplin as it is well worth a visit and there is no charge to visit the Tea Room!

I feel the Tea Room deserves its own review as there is no admission charge for visitors who just wish to use the Tea Room without visiting the Hall or Gardens.. Open Sunday - Wednesday from 10 am when the Grounds are open. Freshly baked scones and home made cakes served throughout the day. Lunches are served between 12 and 2, and include delicious soups, hot dishes and freshly prepared sandwiches. Specialities include:Gilbert Cargey's Lunctime Platter - a duo of local cheeses, onion marmalade, fruit, white baguette slices and oatcakes - £7.45. We enjoyed the Country House Tea (served 2.30 pm - 4.30 pm) - 4 assorted triangles of sandwiches, a homemade scone served with locally made jam and cream, a homemade cake and a choice of tea or cafetiere of coffee - £12.95. This was great value with plenty of good coffee. Served on cake stands with pretty mismatched bone china tea set. If you can't quite manage all that there's Lady Tyrconnel's Afternoon Tea - similar without sandwiches for £6.95. Local produce used where possible. We each chose a different cake (Marmalade and Mocha), generous portions were cut in half so we could share. The Tea Room is located in the panelled entrance hall of the house. Visitors are served by friendly staff beneath the gaze of Charles II and Kiplin family portraits. There are delightful walks in the grounds and around the lake but you need to pay admission for this (£5 adults) and get a sticker to show you've paid. For £8 you can visit the Hall as well as the Grounds and Walled Gardens open 2 - 5 and most interesting. They often have special events.

I love my fish and chips and this place just went to number one in my hit list - taking me right back to my fave chippy in Thirsk. A quick pop in for lunch, but I'll be back for the full monty again. Unfortunately for my husband (who is veggie), they're a traditional chippy cooking in dripping, so no veggie options.
