Such a lovely visit! Wonderful visit, warm welcome, smiles, great decor and aesthetic. The scones are HUGE, seriously one is probably equivalent to at least three normal shop size ones, my partner and I should have shared one haha! The service was wonderful and the setting idyllic, highly worth a visit!

After reading some positive reviews for cafe in our visitors book we decided to visit. The food cannot be faulted and would give it 10/10. Where this place lets itself down is the staff - one lady in particular. We experienced a very flat atmosphere and zero welcome. It wasn’t clear where to sit so we went to the till and was gestured towards a reserved table right by the till which felt very squashed despite the other tables being empty. We ordered and wanted to share a cream tea with my husband. The cream tea arrived looking amazing but all on one sharing board. We asked for side plates and was told in a very short way, no you can’t have any as the board has a dinner plate under it so just use that. The experience continued to be equally as flat with staff bickering by the till about customers, orders and payments. We thought this could just be a one off but buying a cake the next day for my son proved that this wasn’t the case and again whilst waiting for that, the same female member of staff continued the exact same flat welcome, flat service and again bickering with her team about orders. Thank goodness for the lovely waitress with blonde hair as she was about the only positive member of staff in the whole place with a cheery smile. If you’re going for cake- they are good portions and made very well. Big portions. If you're hoping for service with a smile… don’t expect anything. There need to be some serious retraining and customer service was dire!

We come as a family. Two adults and two children every two to three weeks. The food is always delicious and the portions sizes are huge sometimes I share a meal so I have room for some cake. The price is good for the portion size. There is always a range of cakes and tray bakes and the scones are huge. They cater for all dietary needs: gluten free, vegan and vegetarian etc. The decor is mainly 40's and 50s it's so quirky, I love it. Also don't get me started on the high tea. £20 per person you get a roll, quiche, crisps, cakes and a cream tea and tea or coffee. I can never eat it all so I take some home for later. The best for me is the staff. They are so friendly, efficient and give great customer service. I always look forward to my visit to Tea on the Green and we shall keep coming back. I highly recommend.

Not only are the sandwiches absolutely huge, but they’re also absolutely delicious. My BLT had plenty of perfectly cooked bacon, fresh salad and just the right amount of mayo. Similarly my wife’s chicken, lettuce and tomato (CLT). If I had one tiny suggestion for improvement, it would be to have a little bit of dressing on the side-salad. Being rather full after our massive sandwiches, we decided to take home some cake. The decision about which one was very tricky because they all looked fabulous. In the end we took a slice of the Cherry-Bakewell sponge cake. When we ate this later, it was deliciously light and moist with real cherries in the jam layer.

Westward Ho is a lovely holiday destination. It's got a lovely sea refreshed lido, rock and sand beaches, some nice bars and this gem of a cafe. The owners were genuinely welcoming and we loved the Americana influenced ambience. It's central to the town square and the main entertainment amenities but most of all the food, especially the generously proportioned salads, toasties, sandwiches and stunning cakes are all beautifully made. My wife is a coeliac and their food including the epic gluten free salads, mains and cakes were a godsend. For us both though the stunning cakes were a highlighlight of our stay in Devon. All their many array of homemade stunning cakes were to die for but personally I found their banoffie pie caramel cheese cake was the best I've ever had in my entire life (and it's my go to if it's on the menu so that's very, very high praise) and was a thing of utter beauty. You REALLY do need to call in for at least a milkshake and sweet if you're even close to them, they're that good. Thanks to them for being so accommodating in terms of both service and the range of coeliac food they could accommodate. We look forward to seeing you again in the future. My only complaint is that you're half a country away from us... those stunning cakes but especially that cheesecake will live long in my memory.

They were only open Fri-Sun but we managed to fit in two visits. Once with a couple of panninis, which were lovely, so much cheese and filling, soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. They we so large, the cakes had to wait until later! We will be back to dine indoors and get a Taylor Cream Tea.

We absolutely adore Tea on the green and have been several times. This visit was more complicated as we had a dog in tow, the weather was atrocious so no outside seating and darn covid reduces table numbers inside... but hey presto they do takeaway!!! Yay. We had 2 of their amazing hot chocolates with literally all the toppings in little pots ready to add when we were ready. A whopping great meringue for daughter and I indulged in their gluten free cream tea which is awesome. They told me last time that they wouldn't sell gluten free until they were satisfied the texture was just right. Well it's more than alright it's incredible. And if you're worried about all this takeaway packaging it's all cardboard, recyclable and compostable. Top marks. Love this place.

We arrived at about 1330, left our phone nunber and got a call 15 mins later to say a table was ready. What can I say, lovely themed tea room, the pictures of favourite movie stars are even wearing masks. Efficient, attentive and honest service, even recommending alternatives that save the customer money. But that is no good if the food isn't up to scratch, but it was. Two slices of cheese and bacon toastie to share, tasty and well cooked, lovely mixed side salad. Then the most ginormous scones, that tasted great no matter which way you put the cream on. Washed down by a large selection of teas. Then comes the x factor, the price, such quality and quantity at a bargain price of just under £17. The 2 of us with our stomachs full, struggled out of our seats, walked past the fantastic looking cakes and brownies in the cake cabinet and vowed to return to try some another day.

My partner and I visited TOTG yesterday during our weeks holiday at Westward Ho. Initially we called to book however they work a walk in policy, if they are full you can leave your number and they’ll call you when a table is available. The atmosphere, staff, prices and food were all brilliant, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Excellent value for money, we come from a large city centre and we’d expect to pay double what we did for the food we received. The menu did mention the scones were huge however we didn’t realise how big! Luckily we’d not eaten lunch beforehand. They had a large range of freshly baked cakes to also choose from, both to eat in and takeaway. Would highly recommend

My family and I came to stay in the area for the week and after reading such great reviews Tea on the Green was on the top of our list to visit! However, every time we tried to get in, we were turned away, told we could not book a table for later or another day (as they do not take bookings), and rather told we could be put on a call list for them to ring, however there was no guarantee we would ever get a call! After three days of trying, and some rather rude and blunt staff encounters (very rarely say that!) we felt rather deflated! It was only after speaking to some locals we found out you could get takeaway from there - this was not once said to us! So overall an extremely disappointing experience. If you manage to get a table I'm sure the food will be worth the positive reviews on here, but just a heads up not to get your hearts set on it or feel too put out with some not so great service!

We visited Tea on the Green on Saturday the 5th of September. We were a party of 5 however upon our arrival the cafe was full so they took our phone number and said they’d give us a call as soon as they had a table available. We decided to go for a walk and we received a call within 20 minutes. Once we were seated we received menus and had our drinks orders taken. All drinks were a very reasonable price, there was also a wide variety to choose from. The majority of us decided to go for the paninis which we were given a choice of fillings however if you would like more than 2 fillings its an extra 80p per filling. We felt this was a little pricey for things such as red onion, sun-dried tomatoes etc however it wasn’t too much of a problem! Once the food arrived the portions were absolutely massive and looked amazing! We also had a toastie on the table which looked incredible. One last thing with the paninis was that the bread is actually ciabatta which is quite hard and I personally wouldn’t have gone for the panini if I knew this but everyone else was happy with it:)We also went for desserts which were also massive portions and were absolutely lovely as you can see in the photos! All in all the experience was really good, all the staff were lovely, food was so tasty and really good portion sizes for what you pay. Thank you for a lovely lunch and we will definitely return again!

So today we tried to see if a table was available imminently (5 mins). The person who answered said that was not likely but that in any case they don't take reservations (fair enough) but that they have a system whereby they take your mobile if you arrive and there is no space. So you can walk around the prom area and they call you when ready. Again fair enough if it Isn't lashing it down (which it was). All in all we gave another place our trade. I guess they can afford in these times to turn away customers with silly suggestions

Ordering and payment was efficient and staff were friendly. We sat outside and arrived for 11. It got busy extremely quickly. Because it it not possible for people to reserve seats outdoors it meant that a few people were loitering around waiting for space. In terms of Covid-19 safety this wasn’t great as people got a bit too close and it felt a bit uncomfortable trying to enjoy the cakes and tea whilst people waited a couple of feet away (less at times). It would be great if something could be put in place to address this (buzzers etc) as it would make it much more enjoyable and feel a lot safer :)We would definitely visit again!!! Me and a friend visited this lovely cafe on the 7th of March, when we first arrived there wasnt any seats available inside so we sat OUTSIDE, A man came to take our order, he was Lovely and made us feel very welcome. We Offered a couple of our seats to an elderly couple as they didn't have anywhere to sit. When space became available inside the elderly couple went in as it was getting chilly outside. I'm guessing the couple forgot to tell the staff that they had moved inside (I know it can be annoying not knowing). To which a waitress (brown hair, glasses) came outside, asked us if 'they've gone inside?' we said they had, she then stormed back inside huffing 'FOR FU#K SAKE!'. At this point we felt very awkward and uncomfortable. I can understand it can be annoying for staff if customers move without notifying the staff, but I don't think it was at all the right way to go about it. Sort of put us off a bit. Aparently from that, the food was amazing, and the man that served us was super lovely!!

There is seating outside for warmer days and the sea view is gorgeous from there. It’s our place to go for a special treat. I have ticked not wheelchair accessible due to the small size of the inside space. A wheelchair would get through the door but I think at busier times it would be a squeeze fitting it somewhere. By my own admission I am partial to a cream tea and whenever we visit Devon or Cornwall always indulge in one. However this was clearly the best scone and cream tea I think I’ve ever had. The service was friendly and polite it was good value for money but the best was the scone freshly baked extremely large with lovely cream and jam.

Wow if you fancy an afternoon Devon cream tea then you need to visit Tea on the Green at Westward Ho, the tea is not bad but the scones you get are humongous with plenty of jam and loads of cream, you will find you can only eat one scone and that is so moorish and filling that you end up sitting back and watching the world go by it’s wonderful. Give it a try you won’t regret it.

The food here is excellent, fabulous selection of cakes and the scones are exceptional and very friendly staff. The only thing that let it down for us was the milkshakes, more like flavoured milk which is a shame because they could be amazing.

Came to Westward Ho! purely after googling best scone in North Devon and seeing this cafe come up. And, I don't think it was wrong. Huge scones, that were soft and just perfect. The Millionaires sponge was so light and the cookie dough brownie divine. I did'nt eat this all at once as I could'nt make my mind up the server suggested I had takeaway to. Good idea! I had a hot chocolate too which was nice and a delight to the eyes. Totally in love with this place and it's really inspired me to up my baking game.

Couldn't sit inside but stopped for a pot of tea and a scone outside. Scones were delicious but couldn't have managed one each so we shared. They were huge! Tea also lovely. Lovely little cafe which is definitely worth a visit.

As usual Tea on the Green had a fantastic choice of amazing cakes making choosing virtually impossible. The tea itself is just right and served in a large teapot. The owner is charming; the ambiance spot on; the cakes all home made on the premises. Always a delight to go there and satisfaction guaranteed.

Called in for coffee and cake on a sunny Saturday afternoon and managed to get a table outside just as somebody was leaving. Would definitely recommend making a reservation if you're wanting to go at the weekend or during the daytime in peak season. The amount of choice for celiacs / those on a gluten free diet is incredible. Most of the cakes (including those in my pictures) are gluten free. Just ask the staff what is available that day!

Great service all round from the excellent staff. Food was amazing with huge scones and delicious cakes. Staff and owner could not have been more welcoming or helpful. We bought a couple of scones to take away as a gift for my parents, and they loved them. Would definitely recommend.

A visit to Westward Ho is wasted without a visit to this place. The cakes and scones are amazing as well as the milkshakes and how drinks. Really lovely staff and reasonable prices. What else could you ask for?

I was looking for somewhere to make a pit stop on my drive through Devon and couldn't resist stopping somewhere called Westward Ho! I looked up tea rooms as we wanted to make sure we had a decent Devon cream tea... well, we certainly weren't disappointed. We decided to have lunch and then split a cream tea between us which turned out to be a little greedy of us as the portion sizes were generous.

Been coming here since it opened, and the standard of food and service hasn’t changed, or may even be better now. Very popular and deservedly so, great decor and cleanliness, wide choice of dishes in generous portions, and cream tea to die for. Till the next time...

Cream teas are amazing. I had a single one which was ample, my husband tried the savoury- cream cheese and chutney and the children shared one with milkshakes. Incredibly good all round. Decor is golden era movie stars. Very individual. We would recommend.

So I could not decide sweet or savoury scone so I chose their "misfits" option which gave me an amazing cheese scone with soft cheese and local onion chutney, and then a fruit scone with clotted cream and jam - both scones huge and soft and so tasty - never had better anywhere! And its not just the scones that are amazing - crumpets and panini also enjoyed, and amazing cakes - and the drinks were lovely too - my daughter hot chocolate was overflowing with cream, maltesers and marshmallows!

Lovely surroundings with efficient and friendly staff. Food was delicious and well cooked although portion of calamari starter was a little small in comparison to 3 large ravioli. Love to have lingered longer but had a bus to catch which we only just managed! Will definitely return when we’re in the area again. Good value for money considering the food and service quality.
