We make sure to book 2 or 3 tables in advance as they restaurant is so good we never want to miss a month and on this visit we bought some memories virgins ! Once again , like every visit service is exceptional, professional yet warm and welcoming and our friends were made to feel like they’d known them forever despite it being their first time! The food is just sublime, it’s a level of cooking not often found in North Devon, Brett truly is an exceptional chef and a man of many talents , flavours just sing together, nothing competing for dominance , every mouthful is a pure delight and it’s a sad occasion when we’ve finished ! There’s already 3 more dates in the diary to look forward too ! Whatever you do Brett, Naomi and Libby don’t stop doing it !

First time coming here as booked solid so if you have a celebration get it in at least 6 months ahead! Food is superb, cooked to perfection and tingles the taste buds. Can't fault the service both Naomi and Libby are knowledgeable and right on the button, we didn't have to look around for anything, they seemed to know what we wanted before we did! We've booked for a November birthday already.

A fabulous restaurant run by such a caring family. I had my arm in a splint and was asked several times if I would like a cushion to rest it on. The food was excellent and the atmosphere like private dining. We will be a regular diner from now on. Great work.

Second time we’ve visited and it’s just amazing! The food is locally sourced and cooked so fresh! The restaurant only seats a small amount which makes it such a lovely dining experience! Cannot wait for an excuse to get booked in again!

Excellent food, and pleasant place to be. One of the nicest places I've ever eaten at. Everything the four of us ordered was of very high quality and delicious. We visited whilst on holiday and had booked months on advance. While we were there other diners were booking again and the place was booked up for the next 3 months. Food is very reasonably priced, I would have happily paid more. If I'm ever going to be in the area again I would definitely try to book here.

We had a very enjoyable evening at Memories during Tier 2 restrictions. Naomi and Brett have done a great job in keeping to Covid rules. But the best thing alongside the great ambience and service is the food. A good menu and the food was superb. Highly recommend the duck and lamb which were both "melt in the mouth". Nice touches with an amuse bouche, bread and water on the table. Very good value and totally underpriced if you're used to London prices ! Naomi recommended the Westleigh Inn (a few miles away) for Sunday lunch which was great pub grub. thank you Naomi and Brett, please keep it up so we can return. The Hills.

There is no better food on offer in north devon ! The owners brett and naomi are fantastic...bretts cooking is second to none ,and naomi is the perfect hostess ,she is amazing at making you feel specail guests...all credit to this wonderful restaurant!

I was disappointed I could not get a reservation at No 8 and then not at Memories either, or so it seemed , But the owner told me she could do the day before at7pm . YES PLEASE. I was not disappointed . Car parking was available at the other side of the Church but take a torch to walk through the graveyard. We had a lovely welcome and shown to our table . There were only 12 covers and that is true outside Covid times too, but 4 are moved into the bar area to make for SD tables . Every table has a staggered sit down time and you are politely reminded to sanitise. Water arrives at the table unprompted. Always a plus for me . Bread is wonderful and the complimentary soup was delicious. Our food was exceptional . The presentation beautiful and the crockery complements the food. Our hostess was delightful, chatting to customers but including the other guests around her . We were able to enjoy a chat with a neighbouring table too which created a great ambiance. We arrived at 7 and left at 9.30, well inside the curfew time but never felt rushed and for it rivalled many a Michelin London restaurant . But how refreshing to find people who value their achievements based on the customers responses not awards. They celebrate 20 years in business this year and deserve all the accolades . It was the best evening of our holiday and if I was ever in the area I would book up immediately that I knew I would be near. Thank You both of you for a lovely meal and evening.

A small but welcoming restaurant, serving excellent food, in a relaxed and welcoming way. We only got a booking at the last moment due to a cancellation, but now we know why it is so popular.

This restaurant was recommended and was well worth the visit. Naomi managed to get us in during our 2 week holiday even though she was fully booked. We received excellent service throughout the evening and all 3 courses were fantastic We would definitely return again.

I think the title says it all but I will elaborate.A small restaurant with a lovely atmosphere hosted in a mostwelcoming and helpful way by one half of the ownership whist the other half works away in the kitchen.The food was just plain outstanding - almost impossible to do justice to it in words.The starter of fried squid and prawn was delicate , tasty and a joy to eat.The mains of lamb and duck were cooked to absolute perfection as were the potatoes and other extras which adorned the plate.Dessert was brilliantly inventive and scrumptious.As you can gather we enjoyed the meal!And to top it all food of Michelin star quality at no more than some pubs charge.Wow

We had booked to go to our special restaurant in March and then lockdown put paid to it. So it has been a long wait to go back, but of course it was worth it. The new Covid precautions seemed sensible and made us feel safe with only 10 guests in the restaurant. The food was amazing as always! Brett had used the lockdown to create new dishes which were delicious and beautifully presented. Naomi was her usual bubbly self as front of house and ensured we had a very special evening.

I’ve been to memories a couple of times when visiting my dad, and the food, atmosphere and service is out of this world. It’s truly amazing that it’s only run by a husband and wife team - the fact that it’s always busy is a testament to them. Naomi even gave us some milk to take home when we run out of some at home! Fabulous and would highly recommend! Thanks for having us! X

A warm welcome with very good food at this local family run restaurant. The quality and presentation of the dishes was first rate. We were a group of two adults and two teenagers. We each had a different dish, both for starters and main courses, and every meal was excellent.

Tonight was first night post COVID lockdown that Memories reopened their doors ! Yay !!! Neither Brett nor Naomi needn't of worried none of their usually sparkle had vanished ..Naomi front of house is just as entertaining as ever and Brett is a chef from food heaven ! ❤. Tonight (as everynight in the past), was fantastic. You both deserve the success that im sure will continue for you...there really is a restaurant in the area that is a patch on what you do... Thank you for fitting us in tonight we loved it.x

Everyone I'm in the county, I make sure to visit Memories. The food is phenomenal. And the experience is always delightful. It's a a small family restaurant, so make sure you book in advance as it will be full for good reason. The atmosphere makes it easy to feel at home especially with Naomi, who goes out of her way to make your experience memorable. The quality of Memories is second to none. There is no doubt I will go again.

From the service, menu, wine list and the food - everything was perfect! High standards for everything! The restaurant is very stylish and just reminds me of France. The wine list is very reasonable. The menu, I would have ate everything on that menu, it is such a wonderful menu. The food was just out of this world, honestly. We all had a stunning appetiser that was given complimentary - carrot, ginger and honey soup - oh my gosh, beautiful! Starters: 3 of us had ‘Quick fried flour dusted squid and panko crumbed king prawns With spiced mayo’ and 2 had ‘Gin and lemon marinated local trout gravadlax with poached trout, caper & lemon fishcakes’ - both starters were beautiful (photos below) Mains: 3 of us had ‘Breast of creedy carver duck with a ginger, orange & herb crust served with a confit duck leg cottage pie’ and 2 had ‘24hr slow cooked local pork belly with Dauphinoise potato, pulled pork & apple fritter, crackling, cider peppercorn sauce’ - both looked and tasted out of this world! (Photos below) All 5 of us have eaten in France hundreds of times and honestly, the duck was one of the nicest I’ve ever had, the crumb was gorgeous! Dessert: 2 had ‘Chocolate, hazelnut and caramel marquise’ 1 had ‘Pineapple, coconut and dark rum pudding with rum & rasin ice cream’ the other two had coffees (one had a liquor coffee) Drinks: we had a bottle of red wine (Cabernet Sauvignon) and we had a bottle of white wine (Pinot Grigio) and I also had a dessert wine. Honestly, if you like GOOD food, you need to go to this restaurant!

The restaurant is stylish and relaxing. We received a warm welcome from Naomi and enjoyed the menu of superb local produce, expertly cooked by Brett! We can't wait to visit the area again to go back!

Our first visit but will certainly not be the last , on arrival we were greeted by Naomi who was so very friendly yet professional and at once made us feel at ease and welcome and already we had a feeling the night was only going to get better, the place was full and it’s easy to see why We were seated at the bar and offered drinks from the bar whilst we perused the menu. We had 2 gin and tonics and given the size of the restaurant (12-14covers) we had a good selection of fins to choose from Reading the menu, there was nothing on it that we would not have ordered, indeed we wanted to order it all ! In the end the lamb, feta and mint meatballs and locally caught trout gravadlax (of which apparently the chef catches and cures himself !) was opted for followed by pork belly and the most amazing sounding duck dishWELL WOW , this was by the far the best food we’ve eaten anywhere in Devon, the lamb was so flavoursome and the little side of pearl cous cous teased the mouth with such divine flavours as did the trout gravadlax Mains were beyond exceptional, the duck with a ginger, orange and chilli crumb was declared to be perfectly cooked, tender and utterly scrumptious We shared a bottle of very reasonable wine from a small but perfectly formed wine list with prices very competitive Sadly we had no room for dessert but what we saw coming out and the pleasure on other diners faces only reinforced the opinion that they were indeed of the highest quality I cannot believe given the absolute stellar quality of the food that the prices are so very good, starters £7.50 and mains from £16-£17.95, I’ve seen prices in local pubs much much higher than this but nowhere near the quality The ambiance is just perfect here and the chef (Naomi’s husband Brett) is clearly Highly talented and passionate about his cooking , this shows in every dish as presentation was beautiful and flavours to behold We had a chat with naomi at the end of the evening and she informed us that they had owned the restaurant for 20years this year , this to us spoke volumes of the success that they have achieved , to be at the top of their game for that long and still producing epic fine dining food with friendly welcoming service just shows that this couple know how to run a successful business If you haven’t been ......GO

We had another superb meal at Memories for Valentines. The food was at the usual high standard and the service was excellent. Brett and Naomi have always found ways of improving the whole experience with a few new dishes on the menu and subtle changes in the decor.Well worth a visit if you like finer food. A lot of restaurants of this calibre offer small portions but this isn't the case at Memories!

We were part of a large party that enjoyed a fabulous 3 course meal. The service was perfect from start to finish...and just right for a big party celebration. The food was outstanding. My wife and I had 3 courses of absolutely fantastic food. A big thank you to Brett, a fantastic chef that really focuses on every single element of each dish. The attentive personal service from Naomi made the whole evening relaxing and friendly, whilst constantly looking after everybody. We can not wait to eat there again. Truly a perfect evening meal, when you can finally decide on your meal from the really tasty menu. Everything looks so great to eat.

My wife and I came for a meal on Thursday, 3rd October 2019 with 2 other couples we were holidaying with in nearby Instow. We had the best meal of our stay in the area and would be regulars if we lived closer. The welcome was warm, the cooking was excellent and every course was delicious. I am sure that I speak for us all in heartily recommending "Memories" to all. The attention to detail in every respect was outstanding. Thank you, Brett and Naomi for a wonderful and memorable evening.

You will probably need to book well ahead if you want to eat here. We booked two weeks ahead and managed to get the last table for our birthday celebration. This was our second visit and was yet again 5 star. I will never regard suet pudding the same light - the venison and the accompanying jus was dark, dense and sumptuous. We both had the lamb - the best fillet I have ever tasted. Naomi explained to us the cooking process - several hours in a water bath and superbly seared to finish. Everything on the plate just added pleasure to the whole meal. Superb! Well done to Naomi and Brett - you made our day.

Once again Brett and Naomi pulled the rabbit out of the hat and provided a truly excellent evening for our family birthday party. It's easy to run out of superlatives when trying to adequately describe the Memories experience; Brett is a chef of whom I fully expect a Michelin star one day soon; Naomi is second to none as front of house and the whole ambiance is truly special. This is the best reason for visiting North Devon so much so we tend to try and make sure that we can get a booking before we decide to go! The food is excellent, Naomi always seem pleased to see you and you have to believe that the food is cooked especially for you.

We have been visiting Memories for more than ten years and have never been disappointed.The atmosphere is quiet and peaceful, the food excellent and the service faultless.

Whenever we are in North Devon we try to book a table at Memories - our favourite restaurant. I say ‘we try’ because the secret is out and tables can be hard to get without forward planning. But on this occasion we were lucky and snapped up the last table with 24 hours notice.

We booked Memories while we were on holiday, the food and service were excellent! Naomi was very welcoming and looked after us very well. We will be back!

Mel and I come to Memories whenever we travel down to see my mother who lives locally. As usual, last night's visit was excellent, the main course 'special' was locally-caught fish cooked perfectly. As always, a friendly reception with good atmosphere. We were lucky, as we phoned to book earlier in the week and the restaurant was full, however, Naomi remembered our enquiry and called back when there had been cancellation, to offer us a table.

16 of us had the restaurant to ourselves and had the most amazing 3 course fine dining experience last night. Thank you Naomi for looking after us and compliments to the Chef for our exquisite meal.

Myself and my partner have been regular customers at Memories, almost since they first opened. In nearly 20 years we have had nothing but excellent food and excellent service. The owners Brett and Naomi run the business as a very successful team and we always have great pleasure in strongly recommending the restaurant.

We recently visited Memories again and had, as always, the most fabulous food and service. Whenever we are in Northam we go to Memories Restaurant as it is a must and shouldn’t be missed.

Ate here on the recommendation of family who live nearby. Only has a few tables and a limited wine list but that enables them to provide excellent food, interesting menu and competitive wine prices. Husband and wife team, not open every day of the week and with young children they often are able to close to suit school holidays , so booking in advance is necessary as it is popular, with just cause. Will definitely eat here again when next in Bideford. Highly recommended.

Our first, and long overdue, visit last week. Stunning from first to last, every course a small work of art. Hard to pick out highlights, but the belly pork was out of this world. The whole meal was a total delight. Lovely folk too. Not cheap, but worth every penny and we will be back soon.

Another fantastic dinner last night- probably clocked up over 100 now as we have been going monthly for over 10 years. Naomi's impeccable service is a treat. Brett's absolutely fabulous cooking has no peer- unless you consider 'Le Manoir' in Oxford or 'Cafe St. Honore' in Edinburgh. He is simply the finest chef we have ever encountered. Stunning seafood, pork belly to die for and magnificent vegetarian cuisine (husband has been veggie for 40 years, so expects something special). The only tiny downside is no parking, so you need to walk 5 mins. from public carpark behind Northam church... but that just increases the appetite!

My husband and I enjoyed another wonderful meal here at the weekend. Naomi such a delight, friendly and attentive. Brett cooking the most devine food. My husband commented that his skate main course was the best he had ever tasted and my bream was just superb! The restaurant really is outstanding, delivers fresh quality perfect size dishes Michelin quality but not the price tag :-) so lucky to be walking distance away and enjoy being spoilt by the experts . Highly recommend but do make a reservation!

This place is special. The welcome is special, the ambiance is special, the food is special. We went there with our son, having had the good fortune to book at short notice because of a cancellation. We were given a warm and kindly welcome as soon as we stepped inside the door. This is a small restaurant, with just a few tables, and the result was that it was not noisy, and we were immediately made to feel as if our needs, whatever they may be, were important. We ended up having drinks, a full three course meal, and coffee. Everything seemed freshly prepared - no bought-in frozen stuff. The evening started well when, not only were we given some lovely warm crusty bread to be going on with, but also a wee cup of gorgeous creamy asparagus soup turned up, together with a teaspoon to drink it with! All the dishes were such as we have never met before in any restaurant. None of your standard scampi and chips sort of fare! Everything was beautifully presented. Even the sweets were quite different from the standard restaurant menu. The wait between one course and the next felt just right - so we were not rushed, but never began to feel impatient for the next course - yet we were there for a full two and a half hours! Two and a half hours of sheer enjoyment. This is the place w shall always take our guests to in future. Wonderful!

The Husband and I spent a delightful evening at Memories.

My wife and I have walked past a number of times and have been meaning to visit for some time now. We finally had dinner last night (our anniversary!) and had a fantastic meal. Friendly atmosphere and some excellent food; in particular you can tell there is real passion for the fish cookery. Thoroughly recommended!

Memories really is a destination restaurant. Brett is an accomplished chef who never fails to deliver delicious, freshly prepared and beautifully presented food which sadly, unless you go to a Michelin starred restaurant you don’t find elsewhere. We feel it is excellent value for money.

Such a lovely warm welcome from Naomi into a surprisingly fresh and bright dining room. I had the gravadlax starter from the specials board which was lovely (special mention for the bed of really tasty herby salad leaves). My wife had the squid and panko crumbed king prawns. We followed up with the Dover sole from the specials board for her and the chicken pithivier for me. All excellent.

As a fairly regular customer at Memories I can truthfully say that this restaurant never fails to please. My partner and I have been customers for many years and in all that time we have never experienced anything less than a 1st class meal with 1st class service. We visited again very recently and had another wonderful evening. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Memories and giving a 5 star rating.

Memories is a small restaurant in Northam. Our group of four had a delicious meal that was excellent. We all thought that the food was wonderful with amazing flavours and . the service was very good. The menu was limited that ensured that the meals were all to a very high standard. I thoroughly recommend Memories restaurant.

You would really struggle to find anything wrong with this place. I went with my mother at her behest, as she described it as "the best meal she'd ever eaten". Not a lady inclined to exaggerate, I knew I had to check it out. I was not disappointed. Every element of every dish was en pointe, the attention to detail phenomenal and the service incredible. I will be returning the next time I visit Devon. It's a 6 hour drive from Kent, but it's worth it. I'm shocked it has even 3 reviews giving it less than 4 stars, but law of averages, I suppose! 5 star food and 5 star service.

This place is lovely, an adult only, intimate little gem. The food is really Fabulous, I have paid more for fish and chips in a pub!. So I disagree with one of your reviewers I think is Good value for such food. Only seats 12 persons, I loved it.

We’ve lived in Northam for 2 years & thanks to getting a babysitter we finally got to try out Memories, it was well worth the wait! Our evening out was faultless.. the food was first class (my husband couldn’t get enough of the honey lacquered lamb, mint & feta meatballs). The service was spot on too, never left waiting for anything & our Waitress who owns the Restaurant with her husband who’s the Chef was really friendly. Little details such a cloth napkins show they’ve put a lot of thought and effort into everything. We will definitely be going back when we have a babysitter again.. it’s a bit of luxury for grown ups if you want to enjoy a night out without the kids.

Visited this restaurant on the last night of our stay .We were lucky to get booked in on the set menu night . We both had a superb meal perfectly cooked by the chef , also nice wines to choose from.

Another visit to North Devon and of course Memories. Brett and Naomi were as welcoming as always and the food was absolutely amazing. This time I had the Goan fish curry for main. It had the most beautiful fragrant taste and was cooked to perfection better than anything I have tasted in any Indian Restaurant. For desert I chose a Passion fruit tart with a passion fruit Eaton mess, this was delicious refreshing and light. There is always an excellent wine list to choose from and everything is reasonably priced.
