Delightful, cafe and garden center, perched on the outskirts of Baldock. We were welcomed by the two resident border collies and friendly staff all adding to the lovely atmosphere this small family run, independent business encompasses. Prompt, polite service and delicious food. We look forward to our next visit.

We had afternoon tea for four today and were blown away with the quality and service we received. We have dairy free, gluten free and vegetarian requirements in our family and all were not only catered for but we felt they had gone out of their way to accommodate us which is a rare find. We also had a newborn and toddler in tow and were made to feel most welcome even with the occasional scream and the toddler wanting to stroke the dogs. We will absolutely be returning and couldn’t recommend this venue enough.

I am sad to say, but we were disappointed with our last visit. We had a Ploughmans again, but this time, we felt we were being ripped off. There was salad, a few pearl pickled onions, 2 pots of chutney and a pot of olives and a roll with 1 pat of butter and one piece of cheese. Everything was fresh and good quality, but the cheese was so small, it was barely worth putting on the plate ! So much accompaniment but so little protein! I love olives, but my husband doesn't ( because we have had this dish before we didn't check the menu to see what it included and assumed it was the same as always....no olives) and the cheese was a piece of approx. 3inches and 1/2 inch deep ! I have just checked the menu on their website, and it states that you would get Cheddar AND Brie, AND Pate ! Well, we most definitely did not get that ! We completely understand that things are not cheap, and we certainly don't mind paying, but we both just looked at each other! We have been coming here a while now, and it is the first time we have been disappointed .

We booked for afternoon tea and it did not disappoint. There were 3 layers of savoury food which included filled rolls/buns, a cheese scone and miniature savoury tartlets. The fillings were generous and the pastry was excellent. For the sweet serving we had both fruit and plain scones with plenty of jam & cream (we were given extra), assorted flavours of macaroons, miniature carrot cake and Victoria sponge. All very well made and delicious. Coffee and tea was excellent and unlimited. All for £18.50ea. Excellent value and would definitely go back.

I met a friend here last week, convenient location and free parking made this good for both of us. What we found outstanding was the friendly atmosphere and selection of tasty food and drinks on offer. The list of teas, fruit teas & hot and cold coffees was amazing. We had a pot of English Breakfast tea for two and some delicious sandwiches. I was also impressed with the relaxed vibe, we spent a couple of hours sitting and catching up on our news but didn’t feel rushed to move on at all. The garden centre is apparently family run and is currently undergoing an extension of restaurant space. We look forward to returning.

Absolutely the most delicious and best value for money tea and cakes in Baldock - they give proper portions of cake, not just a teeny tiny slice! My favourite is the gluten-free salted caramel brownie - I'm not even gluten-free, it's just really tasty. They have great flavours of scones, which are wonderful warm, and I'm a big fan of their savoury food too, especially the soups. They have a great selection of specialty teas too - I highly recommend the Spiced Apple (with real pieces of apple!) and the Lemon Verbena. The staff have always been welcoming and friendly with me, with big smiles and warm words :)

Louise went above and beyond our expectations in terms of tailoring the tea to our preferences (and dietary needs) and the friendly team made us and our guests really feel welcome and part of something lovely. We were able to bring our own drinks and music, and some decorations. Everyone loved the food and had a good time. Great fun, hopefully someone will invite us to a party there! Had a homemade goats cheese and beetroot tartlet & a ham and cheese quiche; both were very dry. Jacket potato with tuna was dry and not enough mayonnaise. The toilets, which are meant to be for baby changing and disabled access are disgraceful! As a carer I know what the standards of a disabled toilet should be and this particular toilet didn’t meet those standards. There was a rolled up baby mat on the concrete floor and no where near enough room to fit someone in a wheelchair let alone to change them. Only one toilet available and a horrid smell outside the toilets too. Overall, a disappointing experience although the menu is very good.

I decided to call in for lunch this week with the intention of booking afternoon tea as previously I’d had a very good experience with a group of friends. I ordered soup & goats cheese tart and sat opposite the open kitchen by the window. It was not particularly busy however I waited a little while before being served. Unfortunately the tart arrived just before the soup and when I mentioned this the response was ‘We didn’t know if there were two of you’! The waitress did offer to keep the tart warm but I decided against this. The soup was good however I couldn’t cut through the pastry with my knife which left me with over sweetened beetroot & goats cheese. I thought I would mention to presumably the manager in the kitchen that I’d had a disappointing experience on this occasion expecting an apology. She informed me that they serve a hundred quiches/tarts a day so they have to buy in the pastry cases otherwise they’d have to employ a pastry chef. Her aggressive manner was not a pleasant experience at all and needless to say I won’t be returning.

Lovely food, great service, only ever had one issue there with an older gentleman being quite rude about one of the children in our group being a bit noisy, but not the fault of the staff and didn't detract from the excellent food and service. Always start with a positive, the sandwiches, homemade cake and service from the 3 ladies in the tea room was very good, service was not slow we didn't feel pressurised to leave and I would not hesitate to return or recommend to anyone. However, on arrival I was a little taken aback with the welcome from the gentleman behind the counter who I assume is the owner. We arrived at around 10.50 am and noted that 3 tables had reserved signs on them, 2 of which were set for about 6 people and 1 for 3 people. As there were 7 of us i asked if they could fit us in and mentioned something like I didn't expect it to be so busy. The response was that we don't do walk in for more than 4 people, obviously we were not aware of this, I asked if all the reserved tables were for the morning the response was yes they all are and a few other things about the cafe being busy, kitchen can't cope, we felt like we were just a hindrance instead of welcoming the business. The lady behind the counter was very nice and put two tables together for us. Other people came and went, one lot of 3 used the reserved table even though it wasn't 'their table' and some were turned away - when we left at 12.35am (nearly 2 hours later) the other 2 tables of 6 and the one of 3 were still not occupied?! I cannot understand why as a 30 seater cafe you are reserving 15 seats for 2-3 hours before they are required?

Possibly the best afternoon tea ever! We felt we had to write and thank Louise Tapp and her staff for the delicious vintage tea we had yesterday at Tapps Garden Centre. Service was friendly and efficient. The balance of savoury food to sweet was perfect and so was the variety. Often there is too many sweet cakes and not enough savoury. To start there were tiny quiches, walnut and cheese scones plus small crusty rolls filled with smoked salmon and egg and cress. This was followed by scones, strawberry jam and clotted cream. In addition there were 8 dainty cakes which were packed in a box for us to take home as we couldn't manage to eat them! Of course all served with pots of tea. You need to give 48 hours notice but this is well worth it because you can absolutely taste that the food is daisy fresh, delicious, and cooked on the premises by the talented Louise. :)

However, on more than one occasion we have been standing there for a long time without being served. Members of staff who can clearly see you are waiting, are always quicker to tick off other tables items, carry on making coffee or clear plates etc. than to take our order. I would happily let this go if it happened once or twice when they are rushed of their feet, but it happens almost every time and 9/10 they are fairly quiet. However, this is only a small gripe. Interesting teas and excellent coffee - and all at very reasonable prices. Two hardworking and obliging ladies managed to keep up with the healthy stream of orders. This is a quirky, little place with a quality offer and I look forward to a re-visit when next in the area. Excellent value for money, plus they allow well behaved dogs in which is a bonus. We will definitely go back agin. Highly recommended.

I have been a regular visitor to Tea at Tapps for sometime now so when my friend invited me there for afternoon tea for her birthday I was over the moon. The food that we were treated to was incredible, Louise is a culinary genius and makes the most delicious food. I like baking and know a good cake when I have one, the cakes at Tea at Tapps are fantastic, so light, fluffy and full of flavour. The soups, tarts and salads are all lovely. Being a fan of loose leaf tea I love the wide range of teas that are available, the Earl Grey and Moroccan Mint are two of my personal favourites. Although I'm not a coffee drinker my friend always mentions how lovely their lattes are.The Tea at Tapps team are wonderful, they have made me feel so welcome that I often pop in on my own for some quiet reading time in the lovely bright, airy and relaxing environment. My friends and family love it there too, we are always greated with a smile and never made to feel rushed (unlike many other places I have visited locally). We take our knitting and often spend a few hours there.Kibo the dog always says hello and my niece and I love playing with him, he is adorable.

We live locally and decided to go out for lunch at Tapps. I had a quiche and salad and my husband had a baguette. Both very nice. We did not have any cakes, but they did look delicious! The latte is always hot here (unlike some other cafes)!

When there today and hoped for something to eat gluten free, not disappointed, lots to choose from, the staff are friendly and helpful, the cafe is clean and they even do gluten free cream teas if they have 24 hrs notice as everything is cooked fresh, will be returning even though it's not on our doorstep

Our local NWR (National Women's Register) group had an excellent lunch at Tapps. The food seemed to be all home made, and they were able to cater for my dietary requirements. It all tasted delicious. Well worth a visit.

Had a lovely walnut and cheese scone (actually two, they were that good!) at the Tapps Tea Room today. The scones were warm from the oven. They had a wondereful array of homemade cakes and you can actually watch them making the cakes and quiches, so you know they're made freshly there. I had a great coffee and also a Rosebud Gong Fu!! A lovely Chinese tea with a hint of rose - fabulous. I would recommend this tea room for that tea alone. They do lots of different options for lunch too. A definite thumbs up for this tea room.

It's amazing how far this place has come from when it first branched out offering refreshments and snack s 4 years ago. The selection of loose leaf teas is exceptional and the majority of the cakes , scones etc are freshly baked on the premises. Very nice ambience for a Sunday morning treat whilst reading the papers. They also do afternoon tea now as well as small functions .

We visit Tapps often and the Tea Rooms have a lovely atmosphere. You can just have coffee or a full blown Lunch. It is not too costly and makes for a nice little place to sit and chat before going home to put the plants in.

Lovely place to sit and look at the open countryside. Food is good, but I think a bit to expensive. Which is why we only pop in rarely, which is a shame as we live 5 mins walk away.

This again was not a great experience at Tapps. We have patronised this place for many years to support our locals, but not anymore, enough chances given.Service was slow as usual, but food has also dramatically deteriorated in both quality & quantity even though prices are not cheap. The owner has no enthusiasm nor flair for working in the kitchen and when a basic jacket potato takes 25 minutes to serve then is given back as uncooked, there was no apology just excuses, we are talking a frozen jacket potato here, microwaved, how difficult is it to cook correctly and not leave frozen in the middle, this was served after a 25 minute wait for a simple dish and the place wasn't even busy, although three members of staff stood in the Kitchen!Give it a miss

We were disappointed as had to wait over 20 minutes for two hot drinks. The cafe was not particularly busy. In total we waited almost 45 minutes for food and cup of tea. The food when it did come was very nice and fresh. Had the place been full to capacity could understand the wait time but there were only two members of staff and tables were stacked with dishes needing to be cleared. If you are not in a hurry then this is fine as food looked delicious on the countertops. It was our first visit and we were disappointed with service.

I popped in for a coffee as I was passing by and was pleasantly surprised by the high quality of coffee served and the variety of homemade cakes on sale. Excellent service from this family run business and had a look around the garden centre and the fireworks on sale. The staff were very helpful and very informative and you could tell they have a lot of experience and knowledge on all the goods they sell. I will definitely be returning just for the coffee alone.

Louise Tapp should be hailed as the Mary Berry of Baldock! Her range of outstanding cakes from Gluten Free Victoria Sponges, Chocolate Orange, Raspberry and Lemon, Coffee and Walnut and many more but especially including yesterday's awesome new make - the Caramac cake, are all so light and delicious! You can eat in or take away, which is really handy when you have those unexpected guests! Scones and other delicious items are also on the menu, but the cakes are what catch your eye! So many on display! So many eaten, that Louise is constantly cooking more in the open plan kitchen! Tea at Tapps is already a lovely experience bit with expansion plans on the horizon it will be awesome. She already makes it special in her own unique way, but thankfully for us she and everyone else at Tapps are going to make it much more enjoyable.Louise is a gem of Baldock that we should really treasure, so please always say hi to the lady cooking in the kitchen and if you want a special cake made, let her know, she loves a challenge. This weeks Caramac cake was an absolute winner!

I don't have too many issues with the food served here, but the value for money seemed amiss compared to the quality. If you're staying at the hotel this isn't a bad place for dinnder.

Unfortunately despite the beautiful location, the food did not compare. Chips were greasy, yellow and tasted awful. Salad looked fresh, ciabatta really disappointing. My husband agreed that this pub is not what it once was. Very expensive and average food (below at times)
