First visit, service was a little slow at first but improved. Food was delicious but be warned: the korma is spicy! Couple of us got the korma thinking it would be mild and it wasn't! Asked for some yoghurt which we were given. I would advise asking what dishes are mild when ordering. However the food was tasty and we all enjoyed our meals. Good cocktails and mocktails as well. Would definitely eat there again.

The overall experience was good. Setting: 8/10 Would recommend to go with friends during lunch or dinner time. They have lunch menus with reasonable prices. Authenticity: 9/10 The variety of food choices including nuns gives an authentic vibe. Chiefs are mainly Indian. ✨Highlight: Other Options may depend on personal choices, but 🍟Masala Chips (10/10) is a to have as long as one does not hate potatoes. The spice into the well-fried yet not oily potatoes was a thumbs up. Mango Lassi (8.5/10): creamy texture with cardamom undertone, good to accompany the spice. Hyderabadi Lamb Keema (7.5/10): the wrap is a good one for lunch, with well mixed vegetables, but the lamb was a bit dry. Chicken Taka Tak (8/10): from the brief taste that it’s a typical chicken masala, and conventionally performed. Express Thali and Biryani were also ordered. Express Thali might be recommended to taste multiple types in one dish. “Choose from Kadai Paneer or Murgh Tikka Masala with Dal Makhani, Roti, Rice, Far far, Raita and Pickle served on a traditional thali” ✨Reminder: many options may contain quite a mount of spice. Scoring Standard: Cambridge

This was my third visit. I must say the food is below average in taste, quality and authenticity. Waiters lack training and good etiquette. Some of the food is worse than store bought meals. Hope they invest in better chefs and staff.

Hidden gem right by the railway station. Not the typical conveyer belt Indian menu, inventive dishes served quickly and efficiently, slightly higher prices fully justified by the quality and flavour. The "Indian Scotch egg" starter is a revelation!

First visit came with a friend. Food confirmed the mixed reviews online, we both agreed 7 out of 10 max. Highlight was the bhaji starter for flavour although this came warm not hot. My friend liked his veg kofta dish but for me the mains were all too bland, especially the Paneer Korai which I sent back as it was warm on arrival, not hot, and tasted as if the Paneer and vegetables had been warmed up in a sauce. The disappointing thing for me is that I know the food could be so much better. Too much is obviously prepared well in advance to cater for a volume of customers. My perception is that there are too many front of house staff and insufficient chefs cooking to order. Must try harder.

This was our second visit to Cambridge and Tava Kitchen, and once again, it did not disappoint! Our first experience left a lasting impression, so we were eager to return. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed, and as we had booked ahead, they promptly asked for our name and seated us right away. The service was excellent, with the waitresses being attentive and friendly throughout our meal, making the entire dining experience pleasant. The food was served in good time, and we went for the Tikka Masala, which we requested to be spicy – and it was spot on! The curry had exceptional depth of flavor, hitting all the right notes and really awakening the taste buds. The rotis were a perfect complement – light, fluffy, and served warm. We prefer them over naan as they are less filling but equally delicious. Overall, the atmosphere was cozy, and the dining experience was consistently good. Tava Kitchen is definitely a place we will return to when visiting Cambridge again! Highly recommended.

The restaurant is rather cramped and feels like you are sitting on top of each other. The food is fine. Nothing special at all but fills a hole. The toilet situation is terrible. 1 working toilet and people going on the street because it’s so busy. We enjoyed our dinner in Tawa Kitchen. We had Chicken Biryani, Chicken Korma, Dhal Makhani and Mango Lassi. The Chicken Biryani is my new favorite. It was flavourful and spicy and reminded me of the Biryanis I had back in Dubai. The portion was just right. I was initially hesitant to order as I thought it would be too much but it was just right. My partner ordered the Korma. It was very flavourful but I preferred the Biryani. The Dhal Makhani was a bit bitter. Not sure if that was intentional! I tried Dhal Makhani only one other time before and it was not as bitter. I really enjoyed it. This one I did not enjoy as much though. It was too bitter for me but it may depend on personal preference. Overall, a good experience and definitely a must-try!

I had my hopes up coming to this place after receiving personal recommendations and also after reading the reviews, however got a little disappointed with the dishes we ordered, one starter and two mains, nothing seemed to be hitting the spot and some starters have the same sauce and base as mains so thank you for the waitress for pointing it out :) lifesaver ! We got chicken starter , lamb main which the meat wasn’t too bad at all, properly cooked just seemed to be overloaded with spices and I mean , all I could taste was a strong garam masala in every single bite I had. Topped up with rather mild creamy paneer dish since we really wanted to LIKE that place , literally. I must mention one of the BEST NAANS I ever tasted ❣️ Amazing and super friendly service regardless and great tips on the menu 🤞

Was a bit of a letdown. We went in without a reservation and were promptly given a seat and a high chair. The service was nice and quick even though the place was very busy. The ambience was quite nice. We ordered chicken biryani, tariwala gosht, Malabar paratha and masala chai. The paratha and the gravy were excellent, but the lamb pieces in the gravy didn't feel great. The chicken biryani was also quite average. The tea was the worst, the spices were too much and too wrong, felt like an Ayurvedic concoction. Overall, not too bad a place if you order the right dishes. But there are better Indian eat-in and takeaway restaurants in Cambridge at a better price point.

One of my favourite indian restaurants in the city, with pretty authentic dishes. It's not the cheapest place, also not very expensive - but you definitely get the quality that you pay for. A lot of great meat and vegetarian options. Would highly recommend booking in advance, especially towards the end of the week/weekends. There is no parking at the restaurant but parking is available on the roads nearby (Tenison road, Devonshire road). This is paid parking between 9 and 5pm but free outside of these times.

Awesome authentic food recommended by my Indian friends! The Thali lunch deal is very good, especially if you ask for extra spicy and chilies. On my last visit, we tried 3 main dishes, all very delicious. The lamb curry is my favorite among the three. Too bad it’s not on the lunch menu. Naans are more like flatbread than pita bread. Parathas are just great. The sapphire Earl Grey tea is something special and a nice upgrade of the regular English earl grey. I’d also recommend the mango lassi for a layered milkshake-like but much more fun taste.

This is a fantastic, unusual and very welcoming little restaurant. My husband and I ended up here by chance after spending a day at the Airshow. What an incredible find this restaurant was. The food was delicious- fresh, tasty and very different to any Indian restaurant that I have been to before. We had a lamb dish that was out of this world unfortunately I can’t remember the name of the dish. The owner is a very lovely lady who was happy to describe how she produced the amazing flavour (coal smoked in a brazier no less). The decor was great- fresh, modern and very clean. We really enjoyed the food a Tawa Kitchen, especially as there were some dishes that you don’t tend to see in your average Indian restaurant. There was also a good selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails, again, each with a nice twist to offer something a little different from what you might have had before. I see that some other reviewers found the portion sizes too small: I cannot agree with this at all. We had ordered a started each, but ended up sharing. My starter (Chana) alone could easily have been shared by 4 people, it would also have made a very satisfying main dish for one person. When it came to the main course, I only managed a few spoonfuls of my fish curry and vegetable rice and then asked for the rest to be packaged up as a takeaway. We were too full to even consider dessert, but had a look at the dessert menu and found that there were some nice options. Even though I have been to many Indian restaurants before, I have never had/seen some of the dishes before. My favourites were the crispy fried okra snacks, the Chana, and the way they made their Parathas. (I’ve had parathas before, but these were slightly different, I think they were hand made to order on site, rather than just heated up.) Their signature dish is the way they serve their Biryani: it comes in a stoneware pot with a bread dome that’s baked on top of it like a lid - if nothing else, it looks quite spectacular and is a joy to eat. From what my friend said, it was also absolutely delicious (I was too full to try some.) But here is what I personally valued the most about Tawa Kitchen: As a woman, I often avoid Indian restaurants and tend to dread it when I have to go to one (because someone in our group has decided to go) as I really don’t like the condescending and often misogynistic attitudes of the male staff that I have regularly encountered in Indian restaurants in the UK. Tawa Kitchen was an absolute delight and a very, very pleasant surprise. First of all, we were greeted by a female server: I have never encountered a woman working in an Indian restaurant in this country before, and this alone was a great relief and made me feel a lot more relaxed. What’s even more, all of the male staff there were also extremely friendly, polite, and welcoming. I felt very safe and relaxed the entire time and would even consider returning on my own, or with a group of just women. Thank you Tawa Kitchen for being so friendly and welcoming and most of all, respectful towards female customers!

We ate here on Sun 21 April. It was one of quite a few visits to this restaurant. We had booked a table a little while before as we know this place is usually quite busy. We were given a warm welcome by the staff and shown to a little table off to the side. The young lady attending to us was very friendly and helpful. My wife has a gluten, dairy and egg free diet but this is not an issue here, as there are several dishes to choose from. We had two starters to share, and two mains with a range of side dishes. Our food was nicely presented and everything was very tasty, colourful, fresh, spicy and delicious. The ambience here is quite modern and has been given a trendy look. It could be overlooked because of its location quite hidden behind the new buildings on the way to or from the train station, but once you find it, you will want to eat here often! We enjoyed our evening here and definitely recommend to others.

Almost hidden around the back of a large building on Station Road, Tawa have the advantage of being away from busy traffic, yet close to the main Cambridge station. I booked a table for two there on the recommendation of a friend - who really knows his food! - and thoroughly agree with him: this place is producing excellent cuisine. Given the mild evening, we initially sat outside for drinks, nibbles and starters, before heading inside for the main course. There are plenty of dishes on the menu you will recognise, some with a 'twist, and quite a few that are different to the norm but sound delicious! It's worth noting that vegans, vegetarians and meat-eaters are well catered for. Possibly my favourite from tonight is their Indian variation of a Scotch Egg: superb! We ate at Tawa Indian Restaurant in Cambridge, and I must say it was a delightful experience from start to finish. Located conveniently near the rail station in a modern building away from the road. The service at Tawa is great, with attentive staff providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Our party of four felt well taken care of throughout the evening. The staff's willingness to offer recommendations was useful for one of our party who wanted flavour but not too much spice. Tawa boasts an good selection of Indian dishes that go beyond the ordinary. They have about 50/50 vegetarian and meat choices with traditional flavours and innovative twists, catering to a variety of tastes. From the appetisers to the main courses, each dish was nicely presented. Our bill came to a reasonable £120 for four people, including starters, mains, drinks, and service. Considering the quality of the food, the pleasant ambiance, and the excellent service, I found it to be a fair value and a memorable meal. If there is one comment it is that the table sizes are a bit cramped and so we had to juggle the space a bit. Also the restaurant has a modern, industrial feel which is is fine, but is more suited to a quick meal that a place to relax for the whole evening. Overall, Tawa Indian Restaurant in Cambridge is a gem for those seeking delicious Indian cuisine. Its proximity to the rail station, combined with top-notch service and an exciting menu, makes it a good choice for a meal with friends or family.

Had a lovely dining experience at Tawa Kitchen. The Chettinad chicken paired with paratha was warm and scrumptious. Their portions are generous without being overwhelming, ensuring you enjoy your meal without feeling uncomfortably full. Still, I can easily split one portion into two or three potions for myself. It's evident they prioritize quality over sheer quantity. The Gajar Ka Halwa dessert was an absolute delight – I'd return just for that! A shoutout to our server, Samson, who was kind and attentive throughout. Highly recommend this place for a delectable meal and excellent service.

This spot is great for casual and cozy dinner. This is my second time here with my friends and had a great experience in-terms of food and service. This time I tried lamb chops as a starter and had cochin prawn & chicken biryani in mains which are beyond words and became my favourite dishes. Apart from these, restaurant ambiance and friendly service from both the owner and staffs made the evening outstanding. So happy to come back. And will be back again so soon and definitely will recommend. Thank you Tawa Kitchen & Team.

The food tastes nowhere close to authentic Indian. The parantha taste as if they were from the frozen pack from super market. Prawn curry was too sweet and had a gravy more like daal. Lamb chops underneath the masala were tasteless. Very noisy place if you are planning to dine in. Overall a bad experience.

The food was okay. Nice to see an Indian restaurant with a live kitchen. Beware that a service charge of 12.5% is automatically added to the bill.

After looking at reviews and website , you get an impression of excellent authentic Indian food, however this was NOT the case when we visited to celebrate birthday. All of the food tasted like warmed up from frozen and or supermarket. To taste this quality of food , you wouldn't want to spend money in this restaurant. They need to do much better job for the price they charge and what they say on website.

We ordered the food (multiple vegetarian main courses) only to find that they were warmed up from Frozen and not freshly made including Naans (seemed like supermarket ones). Would not recommend if you are looking for good / authentic Indian food , food well below expectations and definately not worth the price.

Wow - never have I had such beautifully prepared curries. We have travelled in Nepal, India and other countries experiencing their cuisine. This was stunning. Every dish was so beautifully presented. So so very tasty. We had been recommended by a guy in one of the local shops - he was so right! I can’t think of a meal that just kept being so incredible. Not just that though - we had travelled with our 8 month border terrier puppy who they allowed into the restaurant. He just slept by our feet the whole time. Vilas and her team were wonderful throughout the evening and we immediately booked to go back on our last night.

For the price, the food - the naan and curries taste like they are from the meals from a supermarket. The parathas tasted like they are from frozen. Not fresh at all. The raita tastes like hummous. Kale chaat also tastes like canned chickpeas, no flavour at all. The portion sizes are a joke! The atmosphere is nice, that's about it. I would not recommend.

every time we visit this place is perfect. even though it is busy the service is prompt and friendly. the food is delicious, in fact it makes it difficult to try new things when it would be so easy just to have your favourite every time.

The food portions are small and they are not very generous with the amount of meat in the curries. The curries taste fine but are nothing to write home about. The restaurant is fashionable and has quite a nice ambience if you are not sat by the door or cash register.

After trying to get a reservation for ages we finally managed & Tawa kitchen did not disappoint. The staff were lovely & very attentive & the meal was fantastic. We had the okra nibbles with onion & aubergine bhaji and tandoori lamb chops to start, followed by the pomegranate chickpea chole, chicken tikka masala and the chicken chettinad. Couldn’t fault a thing, the meal was delicious & we will definitely be back!

Food is fantastic undoubtedly. The reason for a four rather than five star review is the noise level indoors when it gets busy. I have been to busier restaurants but here somehow the sound just reverberates and leaves you with a migraine. It’s because everything is glass and metal (including chairs and tables) and the sound just bounces off rather than gets absorbed. So I highly recommend the food on either a take away/delivery or in the restaurant in quieter times. In busier times, the noise really takes away from the experience which is unfortunate as the food is lovely.

It was our first visit to Tawa and friends had recommended it. We arrived on time for our table but the previous diners were still there - I suspect the restaurant tries to offer too many sittings. We were seated ten minutes late - and then waited another twenty minutes for someone to take our order. When the food arrived, something peculiar happened. We were sitting at a table next to a wooden room divider near the kitchen, and instead of coming round to our table to deliver the plates, everything was handed to us, one by one, through this room divider! It was comical, but also annoying because, as the person sitting nearest and therefore being handed the hot dishes one by one, I nearly burned my hand. This happened for all courses, so it wasn't just a one-off. Most peculiar. Thankfully the dishes were cleared in the conventional way... The food was very tasty, but the portions were small. My husband's lamb dish had only two pieces of lamb in it, and the bowls of rice - for £3.50 each - were not large enough for one person. And when the bill came, a service charge of 12.5% had been added. I appreciate that this is discretionary, but when did the normal rate for a table of four rise from 10% to 12.5%? Perhaps it was a surcharge for the unusual through-the-divider method of delivery. So not quite what we had expected, and I doubt we will return.

Great spot for a casual day/night meal out. The surroundings are excellent and peaceful. The place and its decoration are kind and pleasant and warm. The staff is very attentive and helpful. The food is very tasteful and fresh. Be prepared for a very good experience without much flash. All runs smooth and in time. Waiting times for the food are minimal. Loved it and highly recommend the place.

We were staying in Chesterton and looking for dinner as we arrived. This showed up on Google Maps. It is a small place, not even very clearly marked on the street and you could easily miss it walking past. The person at the counter was incredibly helpful including being clear on allergens. We returned ca. 25 minutes later to collect our food and thoroughly enjoyed eating it. All the food was clearly freshly made, not oily and really good but the Daal and Saag Aaloo were excellent. I will admit to being concerned by some recent Google reviews but was glad we disregarded them. This was a very unassuming place but with good tasty dishes.

This has happened in February 2024 and also now in May 2024. Exactly same result after having samosa Chat. It is definitely tasty but after a few hours it affects the body somehow. 4 family members were affected either tummy ache or Indigestion. Please take it as a constructive criticism and make sure the ingredients are upto the quality.

We went as a huge noisy group of friends for their excellent Diwali thali. The food was excellent, service was impeccable. They coped admirably with our noisy bunch , with occasionally confusing drinks orders. The Diwali thali is extremely good value, strongly recommended.
