The flavours were nice but my main course was cold. The food was served very quickly so does it mean not cooked fresh..yes I think so. For an Indian, it was an expensive experience.

Exceptional authentic Indian cuisine and service. The Railway Curry, Chef Special was worth the 75 mile drive from Beaconsfield to visit this restaurant for our anniversary. This was our 2nd visit. We cannot wait to come back.

Delicious Indian food to satisfy my cravings for a red chicken tikka masala. Very service minded staff, attentive and effective. It was a nice atmosphere as well. My only complaint of the evening would be that the mango lassi lacked a bit of mango taste. Portion sizes were good, food was delicious but 5 pounds for one portion of steamed rice was perhaps a bit cheeky. Overall a great place.

Not good .pre booked stood outside in the cold.lt was chaotic inside very disappointing. Absolutely chaotic inside seemed like a fast food crazy restaurant.Service slow but staff dashing about crazingly. I felt totally unrelaxed as a customer Such a shame, It was not a great experience...no lovely music,too many people crammed into a small space My husband and l are deaf and it was so manic,so mismanaged and so loud just not for us. Waited for our second visit before I make this review. Didn't disappoint us. Staffs are very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Let me add about very entertaining too. Faz the famous guy, lol and so as Abdul was very helpful with our order but all of them were really good honestly. Worth a visit. I must suggest, get some samosas coz it's so fresh and so meaty. Thanks a lot for such a very good experienced guys. We will defo come back again on our next visit.

Worst Indian I’ve ever had. Food tasted like it was re heated in the microwave. Very bland and tase of ghee was overwhelming. Way over priced. Asked for a chilli sauce to go with my meal and little did I know they charged me for it.

The food was quite good, though maybe it could be a tad spicier. Had to waste a bit of Dal as they upsized both Veg side dishes though i only asked for the Okra to be bigger. Naans were fluffy, service was friendly, restaurant was nice and bright. A good address for a curry.

Pretty good! I was in a rush and it’s a pity that I didn’t take time enjoying food. But after I told the waiter that I don’t have too much time, they made the food pretty fast. (Btw their tandeloo is pretty spicy and I love it!

A chance visit but the Salmon Tikka was beautifully cooked and the Khala Ghoost with paratha was excellent. Washed down with a pint of Cobra, had a quick chat with Faz, and went on my way. The acid test of an Indian restaurant, for me, is the chef’s specials, or things you don’t see anywhere else. The lamb was top drawer.

Had the pleasure of booking the restaurant for my wedding reception. From the start of process the owner was very accommodating. The whole experience was seamless. The food was fantastic and the table service was amazing. We genuinely couldn’t have asked for anymore. Would 100% recommend visiting them, the food is amazing.

Had a meal here last week with family, and a home delivery this evening, excellent , tasty, hot food. I’ve not been to this restaurant for years but will definitely be going more often. Highly recommend

The food here is excellent. I have been here three times. Tonight on my own. It was an excellent experienc.e. Mixed kebabs were beautiful (lamb and chicken beautifully tender and spice). Followed by chicken jalfrezi, which was also excellent: tender chicken, subtly spiced but with lovely sauce and green chillies; just the right amount of warmth, without being too hot, and yet scope to take more chilly if one wanted. I finished with some mango sorbet. My only constructive comment to the restaurant would be to present the desserts with the same care as the starters (Mango sorbet plonked in a bowl). Coffee liaueur was nice. Staff were attentive. This place can be thoroughly recommended. Very good indeed.

Cannot rate this restaurant enough!! The staff are absolutely amazing, attentive and friendly. We have been here a few times and then booked in for our anniversary meal - the meal was delicious as always. We were surprised at the end of our meal with a beautiful complimentary cake with candles and coffees to celebrate our anniversary. The server appeared to have discriminatory behavior as soon as we were seated; we never ate there hence not rating the food as upon confrontation the server became rude, so we left.

It's a wonderful establishment. Myself and 2 other friends went here on a Saturday night and it was really busy. The food was amazing, I just couldn't finish it because there was soo much of it (good thing). I have heard good things about this place and they are all true. It is slightly expensive but hey, treat yourself once in a while.

On moving to Cambridge, we tried a lot of different restaurants and I can say without a doubt that the Maharajah is absolutely the best Indian restaurant in Cambridge! The food is always great but it's the service that keeps us coming back - the staff here are really welcoming and friendly. Abdul in particular is brilliant; he always remembers what we ordered the previous time and makes great recommendations about what else we might like to try. Definitely worth a visit!

Maharaja comes Highly recommend , this higher end Indian cuisine in Cambridge , for lunch or evening meal , a huge selection but best choice for me was to ask our waiter (Fazz) of what he recommends as I’m always keen to try new things. Had a wonderful succulent tandoori mixed grill .. lamb was delicious and staff friendly ,, definitely will be back as lots more to try on the extensive menu . 5*

Not just incredibly overpriced, they also have the nerve to ratchet up the costs charging £6 for a chutney tray which we did not ask for and were brought without being told of the cost (and so assumed to be included with Papadoms - we've never been charged anywhere else). Prices are generally 50% over the odds e.g £16 for a dish that would cost a £10 anywhere else. £9 for a small cauliflower side. £12 for 4 papadoms + chutneys. £12! The food is ok - nothing special, mains are a decent size, other dishes are as you'd expect, quality ok, decor ok, service pleasant (until you discover the hidden charges). Given all this, it was surprisingly busy - so maybe there's a market for this - but it's clear from other reviews (which we'd not read beforehand) that others resent the excessive cost and shoddy treatment. We certainly won't be returning.

Two popadoms, two beers, two mains, two breads, one rice and one side - just shy of £85! I've eaten in dozens of curry houses and never paid extra for the popodum chutneys on top of the actual popodum charge - sheer greed, in my book. Still, once bitten, twice shy - I won't be returning...

Front of house staff very efficient and attentive. I ordered a phaal (which was off the menu) and it was excellent. I've been to many restaurants in Cambridge and this was by far the best. My waiter (Nafis) gave some good recommendations. If you are looking for an authentic Indian then I would highly recommend this place.

Food was fresh and tasty and service was excellent too. We had quite a few starters and the samosas really stood out. The chicken on the mixed kebab starter was also beautifully tender. All our servers were attentive and polite but also had personality which always adds to the evening

We have just had a fantastic meal here at the Maharajah tonight, first time we have been here and won't be the last the food was cooked perfectly and well presented, the staff were very polite friendly and helpful as I can only eat a starter due to surgery on my stomach and we explained this and it was fine and accepted no problem what so ever as I was a bit worried about this as we have Been out b4 for a meal and couldn't order just a starter as a main. Also Faz the waiter was very helpful and friendly couldn't do enough for us very pleasant visit definitely will go again.Thank you Faz and all xx icecream was great Faz x

Weak and ineffective front of house management resulted in the whole upper floor of the restaurant having to put up with a loud, rude, constantly swearing and complaining large group of men. Management merely attempted to pacify them with more alcohol! Manager said that money is money - and the large group was spending more than others … very shortsighted view.

Booked the restaurant for a wedding reception, party for 30 people. Met Parvez the owner and provided details of the menu dishes required and agreed the cost per head. Then it was just left to attend on the day. Amazing food Amazing service,starters, mains, deserts, coffee tea all done in style. Highly recommended best indian restaurant in Cambridge. Thank you all at Maharaja Cambridge for making the event special.

I had my first Indian food here 20+ years ago (think it might have been a different owner). The interior is nice and food portions were generous. There's a decent spread on the menu and we over ordered a bit ... 3 curries (chicken and lamb madras, chicken tikka jalfrezi), 2 veg (sag paneer, cauliflower)and poppadoms with chutney set to start with. The three of us left very full and satisfied

Food was of generally good quality. Karai Gosht was very good and the lamb chops were also great. Not so great was the Butter chicken which had a weird citrons tang : was ok but not what my son was expecting. Starters good bhaji good as was the mixed kebab (if small) and the garlic mushrooms. With only two drinks purchased for a starters and mains for 4 £150.00. I felt expensive for what we had but I enjoyed the meal.

Absolutely fantastic restaurant. We like to visit when we are in Cambridge, the food is excellent and the service and warmth of the welcome is wonderful. A little more expensive than some other Indian restaurants in the area but worth every penny and definitely worth a visit.

Very busy restaurant and you can see why. The food was lovely, solid curry and vegetable rice. If I were to be critical I didn’t appreciate the lack of clarity on the poppadom and pickle tray. I was told by a member of staff that pickle tray came with the poppadoms (which makes sense) to subsequently be charged £6.95 for the dips which is outrageously expensive. If you want a really solid curry in a busy environment then this is for you.

From the moment you enter The Maharajah you are treated like the most important person there. The staff are all so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about all their dishes. When myself and 5 other guests visited it was a busy Saturday night, but the professionalism and calmness of the staff was like a Tuesday night. If thats not enough reason to visit you wait until you try the food…. Out of this world! Hand on heart it is the best and most flavoursome Indian cuisine i have ever had! Thank you to all the staff for such a great dining experience.

Good authentic Indian cuisine and very friendly staff

The overall experience was mediocre. It was a busy night, but we called beforehand to ask if a table was available and they said yes, then when we came they asked us to wait which ended up being around 10 minutes. Then ordering the food went well and the staff was friendly. I ordered a beer which had a stated price and volume on the menu, and they gave a bigger one that wasn't even on the menu, which also turned out to cost more. To be fair the price/volume was better but it's weird and a bit sneaky to put one thing on the menu and then automatically give a more expensive option. The food took a while to get there, but alright it was very busy. The food was good though. Then during the payment they gave us a wrong bill with a couple items we didn't have added, and the drinks weren't there. To be transparent, this wrong bill was less than the actual end price we told them we should have, so this wasn't malicious at all, just a bit messy. They do add a service charge which I wasn't aware of and am not sure I agree with fundamentally, but that might be more culture than their own "sneaky" practice. So some small things to improve on and they probably should take less clients on if it's getting too busy, but when it's a normal evening I doubt it'll be a bad time eating here.

Excellent evening, catching up with an old friend and reminiscing. The food and wine was a perfect compliment. Service was spot on, will definitely go back. Be sure to book on busy days as it seems to be a popular restaurant.

My son kindly went with me for dinner because he "doesn't really like Indian food" and I love it! We shared the samosas to start, the vegetarian ones because that's my diet. HOT and crispy deliciousness. Great start for both. My son had the chicken tikka (mild) and I had the veggie sabzi jalfrezi (kick a**). We also had garlic naan and onion rice. I promise you we didn't leave any. Everything came sizzing hot and so very tasty. My son polished off his and then finished off mine sabzi jalfrezi, which was some brilliantly hot and tasty curry. He had to walk his Indian food belief back after dinner at the Maharaja! We have one more dinner together next week before I fly home and we thought we knew where we were going, but now my son wants to try the lamb samosas and the butter chicken. My meal was so good I plan to repeat it. I'm jealous my son lives nearby. One caveat: the service was attentive, but it took quite a while for the food to come out. The restaurant was busy, and clearly it deserves that because it's excellent and they don't shortchange the quality. It was worth the wait.

Whenever I’m in Cambridge, I come here. It’s been a few years so I was surprised to find it was under new ownership and was far less cheesy looking……but, with the new ownership came a less committed food experience. Good initial taste but lacking in the depth and layers of flavor this place was k own for. Going to try the place further up the hill tonight

It was one of the nicest curries I've had for some time. The chicken tikka pathia had a really lovely depth of flavour and a good level of spice. The starters were absolutely delicious. And the service was fantastic. These guys clearly have a passion for their food and it shows. Even if I was being really picky, I couldn't think of a bad thing to say about them. I look forward to my next visit.

Nice curries at a reasonable price with prompt service.

I randomly ended up here on a business trip and couldn't have been happier. Habibi and the other staff made me instantly feel very welcome and I even ended up having a good chat with Habibi after my food. The Chicken Jalfrezi was excellent and while I spent a bit more than I had expected for a dinner-for-one, I have zero regrets and would definitely come back. Thank you!

First of all the food and service were very good indeed BUT when we first were shown to our table the first thing we were asked was 'Would you like some pappadoms?' As a serial indian restaurant goer this is always the first great entre to indian food in the uk and a prelim for what's to come. At this stage I hadn't looked at the menu and it was only when reviewing the bill at the end I realised they charged £1.50 per pappadom and the dips were also charged for making the pre-starter nearly as expensive as the starters. We never go mad with our mains and usually choose a curry each, share a rice, share a plain naan and then maybe a side. Add to this three drinks between us and the bill came to over £100, then service was added at 10%. I know costs have risen but I did feel that at nearly £55 per head we are in the range of a slightly special night out not just a normal curry night that is so now part of our british culture. Don't price your self too high is my message and next time look at the menu first is the message to me and future customers. I repeat though that the food though was good and it very well worth a visit!

Our first time to the newly decorated Maharajah Indian Restaurant in Cambridge. The new decor is light and airy and the first thing we noticed. The meals were delicious and very well presented. Staff helpful, efficient and friendly. We were so pleased we chose the Maharajah as we were celebrating a special Birthday.

The food and customer service was delightful. Habibi, waiter, was kind and attentive. I would recommend this restaurant to others.
