Maharajah in Cambridge

This is one of the hidden gems of Cambridge. The hospitality of the staff and the immaculate cleanliness of the restaurant wasnt the only reason we fell in love with Maharaja but also the exceptionally tasteful food we experienced. Once again we would like to extend our compliments to the chef and the staff, and surely we will see you guys again to taste one and only proper Indian restaurant in Cambridge.

I organised a special birthday meal for my mum at Maharajah. When I initially called to book the staff were really attentive and allowed me to book for a large number of people without pressure, they were helpful when I wanted to change the number and even offered to help me by offering to make a cake. On the night the staff were attentive, all the food came up in good time and was hot - no issues raised which is something the often happens with large groups. Staff were also very patient and didn’t rush us despite the fact they were closing. Food was delicious as usually. Would 100% recommend Maharajah for anyone looking for a nice meal out and also for anyone looking for group/party settings. 10/10 service on this occasion - thank you to staff at Maharajah for a lovely evening

Staff here is always lovely, and Faz is a greater waiter. The food we order is always delicious and served promptly. We come here all the time and have never had a problem, they always give us complementary dishes. It’s always lovely to dine here.

Tenía muchas ganas de visitar Maharajah, y la comida no me decepcionó, todo fue encantador. Pero la experiencia dio un mal giro debido a un camarero llamado Faz. Vino pidiendo una revisión, luego tomó mi teléfono y lo publicó él mismo sin siquiera preguntar si estaba bien. Lo que empeoró las cosas fue que en el momento en que me vio, gritó “Ni Hao”. Soy singapurense, no chino, y me sentí ignorante y ofensivo. Es una pena porque la comida era brillante, pero ese tipo de comportamiento simplemente no es aceptable.

No puedo empezar a describir lo increíblemente grosero que fue el personal, pero básicamente nos echaron del restaurante justo antes de las 10: 30 . Sin oferta de postre, sin “¿Todo estaba bien?” o “¿Podemos traerte algo más?” Básicamente simplemente limpiaron nuestros platos, cerraron la cuenta sobre la mesa y apagaron las luces. ¡Así es, en realidad nos apagaron las luces! Este lugar no es barato (de hecho, hay un plato en el menú que cuesta casi £ 300 para 4 personas), por lo que me resulta particularmente molesto que estuvieran felices de tomar nuestro dinero, pero nos trataron tan terriblemente. Dado que se trataba de un evento de trabajo, era aún más embarazoso. Sin duda no volveremos a recomendar este lugar a nadie más.

Vine a cenar allí con un amigo y nos quedamos impactados por cómo terminó la cena. En primer lugar el restaurante estaba frío como sugiere la crítica anterior. La comida era buena, pero tan pronto como terminamos nuestro plato principal, el camarero empujó la cuenta en la mesa. No nos ofrecieron ningún postre o café, y la factura se puso allí antes de que incluso lo pidieramos. En resumen, nos dejaron claro que querían que nos fuéramos lo antes posible. Sospecho que la razón era que había otras personas esperando para sentarse, pero independientemente de eso, esta no es la manera de tratar a sus clientes. No iría allí de nuevo.

La comida y el servicio eran excelentes como siempre, pero el restaurante estaba absolutamente helado. Tome capas adicionales de ropa si está planeando una visita.

The very rich super recommended food is from Colombia and I love indu food

I’ve just had one of the most disappointing curries I’ve ever tasted—completely bland and utterly flavourless. The poppadoms were stale, and the pickles seemed like they’d been reused, with clear dips already taken from the middle. As for the chicken in the main dish, the texture was strange and unappetising, so I couldn’t even finish it. A thoroughly unpleasant experience.

A very good curry house as usual. Very keen and attentive service, so why the mark down... Well it was 'agreed' we would all (10 of us) have a beer, Kingfisher duly arrived. But then, without anyone asking 10 more Kingfishers arrived and were opened. Everyone thought someone else must have ordered them but none of us had. I don't think any of the second batch were finished. So 10 beers @ £7.25 + 10% service = £79.75 that was on the £500+ bill that no-one really wanted...

Was so impressed with the quality of the food and the amazing service! Cannot wait to return. Will be.reccomending this to my friends! Faz recommended me. Was not disappointed!

The line chutney tasted freshly made! I had the chicken jalfrezi and it was phenomenal. The chicken strips were well marinated and plenty, the sauce wasn’t tomatoey, I could taste the spices and it was just the right amount of food. The mushroom rice complimented it nicely and was enough to share with my husband. So was the naan bread. I’ll definitely come back!

Exceptional authentic Indian cuisine and service. The Railway Curry, Chef Special was worth the 75 mile drive from Beaconsfield to visit this restaurant for our anniversary. This was our 2nd visit. We cannot wait to come back.

Not good .pre booked stood outside in the cold.lt was chaotic inside very disappointing. Absolutely chaotic inside seemed like a fast food crazy restaurant.Service slow but staff dashing about crazingly. I felt totally unrelaxed as a customer Such a shame, It was not a great experience...no lovely music,too many people crammed into a small space My husband and l are deaf and it was so manic,so mismanaged and so loud just not for us. Delicious Indian food to satisfy my cravings for a red chicken tikka masala. Very service minded staff, attentive and effective. It was a nice atmosphere as well. My only complaint of the evening would be that the mango lassi lacked a bit of mango taste. Portion sizes were good, food was delicious but 5 pounds for one portion of steamed rice was perhaps a bit cheeky. Overall a great place.

Found a hair and showed it to the staff and got rudely behaved.

Waited for our second visit before I make this review. Didn't disappoint us. Staffs are very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Let me add about very entertaining too. Faz the famous guy, lol and so as Abdul was very helpful with our order but all of them were really good honestly. Worth a visit. I must suggest, get some samosas coz it's so fresh and so meaty. Thanks a lot for such a very good experienced guys. We will defo come back again on our next visit.

Worst Indian I’ve ever had. Food tasted like it was re heated in the microwave. Very bland and tase of ghee was overwhelming. Way over priced. Asked for a chilli sauce to go with my meal and little did I know they charged me for it.

The food was quite good, though maybe it could be a tad spicier. Had to waste a bit of Dal as they upsized both Veg side dishes though i only asked for the Okra to be bigger. Naans were fluffy, service was friendly, restaurant was nice and bright. A good address for a curry.

Pretty good! I was in a rush and it’s a pity that I didn’t take time enjoying food. But after I told the waiter that I don’t have too much time, they made the food pretty fast. (Btw their tandeloo is pretty spicy and I love it!

A chance visit but the Salmon Tikka was beautifully cooked and the Khala Ghoost with paratha was excellent. Washed down with a pint of Cobra, had a quick chat with Faz, and went on my way. The acid test of an Indian restaurant, for me, is the chef’s specials, or things you don’t see anywhere else. The lamb was top drawer.

Had the pleasure of booking the restaurant for my wedding reception. From the start of process the owner was very accommodating. The whole experience was seamless. The food was fantastic and the table service was amazing. We genuinely couldn’t have asked for anymore. Would 100% recommend visiting them, the food is amazing.

Had a meal here last week with family, and a home delivery this evening, excellent , tasty, hot food. I’ve not been to this restaurant for years but will definitely be going more often. Highly recommend

The food here is excellent. I have been here three times. Tonight on my own. It was an excellent experienc.e. Mixed kebabs were beautiful (lamb and chicken beautifully tender and spice). Followed by chicken jalfrezi, which was also excellent: tender chicken, subtly spiced but with lovely sauce and green chillies; just the right amount of warmth, without being too hot, and yet scope to take more chilly if one wanted. I finished with some mango sorbet. My only constructive comment to the restaurant would be to present the desserts with the same care as the starters (Mango sorbet plonked in a bowl). Coffee liaueur was nice. Staff were attentive. This place can be thoroughly recommended. Very good indeed.

Cannot rate this restaurant enough!! The staff are absolutely amazing, attentive and friendly. We have been here a few times and then booked in for our anniversary meal - the meal was delicious as always. We were surprised at the end of our meal with a beautiful complimentary cake with candles and coffees to celebrate our anniversary. The server appeared to have discriminatory behavior as soon as we were seated; we never ate there hence not rating the food as upon confrontation the server became rude, so we left.

It's a wonderful establishment. Myself and 2 other friends went here on a Saturday night and it was really busy. The food was amazing, I just couldn't finish it because there was soo much of it (good thing). I have heard good things about this place and they are all true. It is slightly expensive but hey, treat yourself once in a while.

On moving to Cambridge, we tried a lot of different restaurants and I can say without a doubt that the Maharajah is absolutely the best Indian restaurant in Cambridge! The food is always great but it's the service that keeps us coming back - the staff here are really welcoming and friendly. Abdul in particular is brilliant; he always remembers what we ordered the previous time and makes great recommendations about what else we might like to try. Definitely worth a visit!

Maharaja comes Highly recommend , this higher end Indian cuisine in Cambridge , for lunch or evening meal , a huge selection but best choice for me was to ask our waiter (Fazz) of what he recommends as I’m always keen to try new things. Had a wonderful succulent tandoori mixed grill .. lamb was delicious and staff friendly ,, definitely will be back as lots more to try on the extensive menu . 5*

The attention of the staff was excellent, super close and attentive, highlighting Faz who was a 10. They have a varied menu, I recommend the Sabzi Korma, although everything was delicious. Many vegetarian options.

Not just incredibly overpriced, they also have the nerve to ratchet up the costs charging £6 for a chutney tray which we did not ask for and were brought without being told of the cost (and so assumed to be included with Papadoms - we've never been charged anywhere else). Prices are generally 50% over the odds e.g £16 for a dish that would cost a £10 anywhere else. £9 for a small cauliflower side. £12 for 4 papadoms + chutneys. £12! The food is ok - nothing special, mains are a decent size, other dishes are as you'd expect, quality ok, decor ok, service pleasant (until you discover the hidden charges). Given all this, it was surprisingly busy - so maybe there's a market for this - but it's clear from other reviews (which we'd not read beforehand) that others resent the excessive cost and shoddy treatment. We certainly won't be returning.

We were herded in and offered papadum before we'd taken our seats. We had assumed them complimentary, but no. The four huge, burnt offerings were £1.50 each plus £5.95 for condiments that would have been insufficient had we had the appetite for such a huge pre-starter. The staff pestered us every few minutes, great to feel looked after of course, but the novelty wears off after the fourth time in 10 minutes. I'll cut a long story short: Starters - awful and on cold plates Main courses - a madras and a jalfrezi ... they looked the same, the sauces were bland and unattractive. The meat (chicken in both cases) had clearly been cooked separately and had taken up no flavour of the sauces. The raita was the worst I have ever seen – some rancid looking set yogurt with pieces of cucumber dropped on top. We couldn't eat it. We did not complain on the night, but wrote a letter to the manager. He did not respond. This disastrous meal for two cost over £100!

Front of house staff very efficient and attentive. I ordered a phaal (which was off the menu) and it was excellent. I've been to many restaurants in Cambridge and this was by far the best. My waiter (Nafis) gave some good recommendations. If you are looking for an authentic Indian then I would highly recommend this place.

Weak and ineffective front of house management resulted in the whole upper floor of the restaurant having to put up with a loud, rude, constantly swearing and complaining large group of men. Management merely attempted to pacify them with more alcohol! Manager said that money is money - and the large group was spending more than others … very shortsighted view.

We have just had a fantastic meal here at the Maharajah tonight, first time we have been here and won't be the last the food was cooked perfectly and well presented, the staff were very polite friendly and helpful as I can only eat a starter due to surgery on my stomach and we explained this and it was fine and accepted no problem what so ever as I was a bit worried about this as we have Been out b4 for a meal and couldn't order just a starter as a main. Also Faz the waiter was very helpful and friendly couldn't do enough for us very pleasant visit definitely will go again.Thank you Faz and all xx icecream was great Faz x

Booked the restaurant for a wedding reception, party for 30 people. Met Parvez the owner and provided details of the menu dishes required and agreed the cost per head. Then it was just left to attend on the day. Amazing food Amazing service,starters, mains, deserts, coffee tea all done in style. Highly recommended best indian restaurant in Cambridge.
