Really lovely food, brilliant staff. You need to clean the toilets properly and the plate should be heated before serving the meal. All that said I would go again.

Service horrific, food very poor/basic. No music, no atmosphere, nothing on the tables. Never again

I ordered medium spiced biryani, my colleague ordered mild lamb biryani but i got mild prawns biryani n he got Very spicy biryani, our biryani got phaak taap man.i m sure next day he will feel lava coming out of his body. May god bless him. Service was disaster. We felt that we are beggars and vame for free food. Hope owner will look into this and take necessary action to improve service

I would one of the best restaurants in cambridge.

Very tasty food - had the chicken chetinadu and a masala dosa - and good service even though it was packed on a Saturday night. Price reflects that we had a bottle of wine; food was quite reasonably priced for the quality.

Wonderful friendly staff, plus a genuine and homely atmosphere. The restaurant feels very sociable and welcoming, casual and unfussy. Most of all, the Sri Lankan/south Indian menu options are unlike any other curry house in Cambridge. We always look forward to our visits to the Banana Leaf, highly recommended.

My only regret is not taking photos to look back to on such a great meal. My hubs and I had the absolute pleasure of trying Bananaleaf's dishes and it was sooooo great, we were raving about it till the next day. Flavours are *full* and packed, it felt that they weren't there to tone it down for those who cannot handle the spice. ;) Staff were also very patient in explaining the dishes, and helpful in making choices! We will come back for sure.

A little late in writing a review. I was in Cambridge for last month for more than a week and dined here for about 4 times together with my friend. And we were really happy with the quality of food and taste. It exceeded our expectations. Dosa was super yummy and Mango lassi is too good. My friend ordered the Lassi twice first time we went there. Overall a great experience and if ever I come to Cambridge, I will be dining here for sure.

First time try this restaurant. Welcome greeting by a nice staff, good impression at first place. After ordering, my dish served in a reasonable time even the restaurant is packed. Smell nice and fresh. Take a first bite, so delicious and it is fresh cook. Very enjoyable dinner (better eat with your fingers to enjoy it) 😜

I came alone to the restaurant, there was literally a two people table empty but the restaurant person asked me to leave because it was full. And if he could have told that there was a waiting time I would have waited but. This is really unacceptable and very bad.

Nice Sri lankan, south Indian food, though place has non-vegit dishes, there is a good collection of tasty vegit/vegan dishes

Horrible service. My friend and I visited and ordered two plates of puri, she got hers and I for mine almost 30 minutes later. After 10 minutes of her getting hers, I confirmed with them if they are getting mine, the lady asked me to wait for 3 to 4 minutes… Later, when I brought this up with the man he was dismissive of it and instead started making suggestions that we should have made sure our order was correct and next time we must allow 25 minutes for puri. Also, they rushed us since the place was booked. Taste was okay. It was a simple preparation. Will I go back again? Unlikely after the service we received.

Great authentic cuisine. I had Chicken Chettinad, the chicken was very tender, the gravy was spicy and a great mix of spices. The bread is great!

We have mild "American" palates: the butter chicken was supreme! Birani seafood and chickpea curry were delightful. The coconut clilantro rice was remarkable. We cleaned our plates! Cheers!

Nice food, good atmosphere, and soon got busy

We went for the first time, which our friends had recommended. A very good choice of Sri Lankan food. They serve alcohol, soft drinks and lassie. We were so full, we ended up taking food home. They explained what a certain item was when we asked. They were very busy for a Thursday. It's a very basic looking place but clean and with an almost homely feel to it. Book in advance for seating, especially if there's a group. Will go again. The only problem was finding parking.

The service was so bad. I wouldn’t consider dining here again.

Love this South Indian restaurant. This place is the best and closest to bring the authentic flavours of South India to Cambridge. Absolutely recommend.

The food is incredibly tasty and having lived in Tamil Nadu, I can vouch for the original taste. We had the best Nai Roast dosa in the UK and we have been here for 20years. It nostalgically took me back to Pondicherry where I lived many moons ago.

I got the unique flavors of south India from here, every dish here tastes the same as it is made in India.

Was shooed away from the restaurant by the waiter and told it was closed when it was open and clearly said it was open online. I then saw a couple walk in and get served quickly . I hope the food is as better as the service

Worst experience ever... I had booked a table (a day earlier) for a family dinner. When we arrived, it was 80% full. The waiter asked us to wait outside... wao what a hospitality and service. Thank you for keeping us waiting outside at 11 degrees. After 10 minutes, we lost the hope for the table. Dear restaurant manager, I will never attempt to be your guest anytime.

Absolutely delicious food that took me back to our travels in South India. The chicken chukka was so tender and stunningly spiced. The plain and spicy potato paratha were also highlights. Thank you so much. We will be back for sure.

Sehr gastlich. Es war schon sehr voll, aber man hat uns rasch einen tisch und zwei Stühle zurechtgemacht und fragte gleich nach unseren Wünschen. Überhaupt- freundliche und schnelle Bedienung und dann ein sehr schmackhaftes Essen, wunderbar gewürzt. Das gilt sowohl für die lamb rolls und vegetarian rolls als auch für den vegetarian fried rice und das fish curry. Liegt ein bisschen außerhalb, lohnt sich aber.

I've been wanting to eat here for a while and it lived up to all our expectations. The menu selection is huge and all the food we had was excellent. The restaurant was full and the two waiters worked so hard the whole time we were there, despite being so busy they were both polite and gave great service. We will definitely be back.

Very cheap and dirty restaurant, worst south indian food.

The best restaurant for having Dosa and Kotthu paratha in Cambridge. If you are going on weekends, make sure yo book a table in advance as it tends to get quite full.

7 of us booked a table for dinner, The food was mouthwatering, The starters in veg everything was so amazing and fulfilled our stomach, i would suggest panner for starters and thayir vada and mains we had biriyani, masaa dosa, kothu porota, and the dessert, all mouthwatering, the service was wonderful, Mr. Ramani was so helpful and his team too.

Beware, when it says it’s spicy it means it’s spicy. Great food and great service, would highly recommend

Interesting, exciting food, and plenty of it! The menu is Sri Lankan, the traditional curries are all there but the parrota specials are really something.

We visited this on a Saturday for lunch. The ambience was not so great and there was constant disturbance due to dish washing. This made the experience even more unpleasant. We ate chilli idly, masala dosa and poori. Chilli idly was basically tomato ketchup plus idly and very bad. The other too very also pretty average

Food ordered using a delivery app at 8:30 pm didn’t arrived by 10:00pm(closure time of this restaurant) and didn’t even attend to multiple calls made. Dissappointed :(( Renowned organisation shouldn’t fail this bad though :((

Worst customer service I have ever seen..Have been here more than 3 times and they(a particular person) would rather serve anyone other than indians which is extremely disrespectful.. We all give money for the food we eat no matter where we are from and it is sad to see them treating us such way..They would not even greet us and takes our order last and just slams the food on the table for us without even facing us..The customer service makes the taste of food disappear as food starts from service..

Visited on Sunday for lunch as I was suffering for cold , it was pretty crowded and had orders crab soup and ghee roast Dosa for starter both was delicious especially the crab soup if you have a cold (ask for extra hot) if you can handle it. I felt much better after that soup. Mains crab masala with rice both was a combination i just loved. Finally for dessert we had a Faluda with high expectations, but was a little disappointed. As was missing many key ingredients like chia seeds, vermicelli and rose syrup, however the service was homely and warm.

I ordered bananaleaf from Uber eats. Came in about 30 minutes. We had kadai chicken curry (very good and flavorful), spinach curry, fried squid and garlic porrat. We didn’t request any particular spice level and it was quite spicy but still enjoyable. My main comment is that it is quite expensive for the amount of food.

A beautiful find a little away from Jesus Green! We ordered a masala dosa, poori masala, and some vadai in yoghurt, all delicious and exactly as we remembered from our time in India. Staff was friendly and service quick, definitely worth the price. We will absolutely be coming back!

We decided to try this restaurant because it sounded different. I was slightly perturbed by the reviews talking about unpleasant staff, but I can start by saying we were treated very well by all of the staff and the menu was quite extensive. The food was generally fairly good and I would certainly say it is worth a try, but I would like to make the following points: On the plus side the Dosa (large thin wafers that you have with chutney), along with their equivalent of naan bread and the rice were all excellent. The starters didn’t really work for us. The Rasam soup was ok, but not really very nice. The lentil doughnuts with lentil soup was fine but the hot lentil doughnuts with cold yogurt didn’t work at all. Also they were far too filling. If I’d eaten both of mine I couldn’t have attempted the main courses. We had five main courses, devilled king prawns which were excellent, plus a lamb ?Chukka, a chicken dish, ochre and aubergines. I said that we came here because it sounded different but apart from the prawns the two vegetable dishes and two meat dishes looked exactly the same and the sauces tasted fairly similar. If the management read this, they really need the meals to look different from each other and differentiate the flavours more. The service was good and the price was reasonable but I just felt the dishes could have been more different from each other. Don’t let this review put you off trying this restaurant, I gave it four stars, but with more variety I could have given it five.

Delicious food & outstanding service with a smile. I had selection of dishes but the highlights were the garlic parrots and chicken masala dosa. Good value and highly recommend. Will definitely return. 👌

One of the great place to have authentic South Indian Spicy food, especially must try Masala Dosa which comes with two chutneys and sambar.

The Banana Leaf restaurant dosa are all DE-licious. Lamb masalla, paneer or vegetable - and their arrival is theatrical. Start at both ends as a starter by dipping hot, crisp dosa. Then the remaining main course is even better. As good as meal as can find elsewhere in Cambridge. Great value and a friendly, welcoming place too.

Fantastic food and great staff. All good food if you like to taste original South Indian cuisine. Speed of service is awesome and variety of food challenges to pick the favourite for a night where space in stomach limits to makes you visit frequently to try all to fall in love with it.

Fantastic place to enjoy south Indian food! We ordered plain Dosa, masala Dosa, ghee roast Dosa. All dishes along with Sambar are chutney were impeccably prepared. Could not ask for anything more. Definitely recommended place for the south Indian food ! :) We had also ordered Veg rolls for starters, which was okayish (maybe to our tastes)... Also, I suggest to book a reservation in advance, especially on weekend evenings.

The closing time is supposedly 2.14PM and not 2.30 as mentioned on Google, as per the manager/waiter. We walked in at 2.14 and were informed that the kitchen is already closed. Food is alright though, but I do have some concerns about hygiene.

Sometime back visited with family members and i can confidently say this was authentic south india food we had - delicious and well served ! We has masala dosa which was crisp and tasty and idlis were soft too ! All of my family enjoyed their meals and i would highy recommmend this place ! Thanks Bananaleaf all the best !

I have visited Bananaleaf once,however the experience has stayed with me even after returning back home.Being from India we didnt expect the food to be authentic tasting to perfection! We were taken by a surprise,dosas & idlys tasted better than many South Indian dining places in India/Sri Lanka!We had our stomach and heart filled up!I will definitely go back to Bananaleaf when in Cambridge next!

Bananaleaf is a place for dining in, not for ordering delivery. We love their food and were recently willing to wait the predicted hour and a half for food, but it ended up taking 2 hours and arrived cold. The long delivery time is fairly normal, but this time just felt like a bit too far. Honestly, if you have two hours to wait for delivery you might as well go to the restaurant. We won't be ordering delivery from them again, but we will certainly be going to the restaurant because their food is amazing. You should too.

Nice shop for South Indian restaurant

After telling my Samosa tasted old The guy took payment even though I just had bite from it. He didn’t even offer to replace. I was just a single person they offered me the place which was good but they treated me very badly. All in all he was more interested in taking money than a good service. The rude guys name is Ramani (on receipt ) Never going again.

The lamb biryani, chicken 65 and aubergine curry are our firm favourites. One of very few authentic Indian (South Indian/ Sri Lankan) restaurants in Cambridge.

Amazing South Indian and Sri Lankan food! Chefs are clearly top notch and know what they’re doing - one of the very few restaurants in the UK that makes you feel like you’re back on the subcontinent because the taste of the food is par excellence! The devilled chicken and spinach curry specifically is to die for! It’s also super affordable for those of us coming from London.

Banana leaf, the name itself telling that it gonna be fresh. I had very good experience with the Banana leaf, the way of hospitality and the way serving. Let's, come to food, it was a delicious food I ever had past months. I strongly suggested that Banana leaf is gonna be a best food to taste.

Bananaleaf has some of the best South Asian food I've had in the UK. The portion sizes are great, and the prices are reasonable (for Cambridge). The only bad thing about the place is that the restaurant is a bit small, so I'd recommend booking ahead of time. The only better curry I've had was in India.

Place offers a bundle of variety of Indian food specially southb indian, totally loved the Dosa blown out by the size of the Dosa they offer, also the veg kothu porotta nice and spicy, unlike other south Indian restaurant they are close to what we recall as a proper south Indian level of spice and taste
