I was at these restaurants throughout the last game of the World Cup, which was ice hockey, and my country of origin ended up winning.I had frying cheese with chips, and the proprietors and workers at these restaurants are such pleasant individuals. The ambiance was wonderful, and the food was superb. Visiting that location and experiencing the flavour of Czechoslovakian cousins is something I strongly suggest.

My original review is below but save to say on our recent three visits in 2024, the food is a good as ever and the service is now speedy, too! It's not a haute cuisine meal, but it is of the highest quality, served well and very tasty - truly authentic Slovak cuisine. ORIGINAL REVIEW Authentic and welcoming; great tasting food; but utterly ridiculously s-l-o-w. Almost ruined the experience - and to be told we hadn't been waiting an hour when we'd been there even longer didn't help. Another table was more vocal about their delay. We'll return but let's hope they get the chef issues sorted out!

Went for an evening meal on a Saturday with friends. Very friendly, patient waiting staff, a great selection of aperitifs and other drinks. It offers something that might be unique in Leicester, a really great selection of Eastern European dishes that really taste authentic (based on visits to Prague and having tried Hungarian food several times). It's pretty simple on the inside but the dishes are lovely. For an inexpensive dinner out with friends/family, it's very hard to go wrong here and I'll certainly return.

I initially found this hidden gem on wanderlog.com "50 best restaurants in Leicester 2023" article in which it placed 5th and I am so glad I went to find out more about it for myself. A small, authentic Czech and Slovak restaurant, many of the reviews on this site speak about how special it is for those with heritage from these two countries but the welcome is just as kind and warm for those of us who don't. The flavour of the food is excellent, the prices and number of choices are excellent too. It is a small place so please give yourself plenty of time to enjoy it (maybe not the best place if you have theatre tickets and need to rush your food) but being welcomed into a family atmosphere for some classic homely cooking deserves that bit of extra time.

My uncle and I are doing a world food tour in Leicester and today we went to Tatra Eastern Corner. The range of different choices in the menu was surprising and I wasn’t sure what to have until the LOVELY host helped me pick the medium sausage to start with ( though she suggested the large, if she reads this she’ll know who we were now haha ), she was right I could’ve eaten the bigger portion, the beef goulash was a good choice, more about the taste than the look ( not fancy but the taste mattered and it was lovely), the Olga cocktail was refreshing, and hey the Mulled Gin perfectly complimented the dessert. Oh, she was intrigued by the jam my uncle brought me from a holiday and was even happy to chat a bit whilst still making sure other people were being served.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting this super friendly restaurant in Leicester, and its Slovakian roots made it an especially sentimental experience for me. If you're looking for a Michelin star experience with mini portions, this isn't the place for you, but if you want warm welcoming, homely atmosphere and authentic, generously sized Slovakian food, then you've come to the right place! From the moment I stepped inside, I was welcomed with warmth and kindness, and the staff were such stars. 15/6/19We two middle aged guys were visiting our friend in central Leicester and decided to treat him to a local meal for putting us up.On our wandering round in the day we came across this interesting restaurant which offered something different from the usual Indian or Turkish fare in the area. Our friend had not heard of it so I looked it up on TA and saw the favourable reviews, including extolling Anna's service and friendliness. We arrived at about 7:40 on the Saturday evening, hoping to beat the evening rush, to find a surprisingly quiet restaurant with only a group of four eating by the window. We took a table between them and the bar. A cheerful waitress welcomed us and offered us drinks, we asked for the menu to choose the drinks, which she gave us quickly and we ordered a pint of Kozel beer (£3.95) for me, an 'Olga's drink (£4.95) for our host and a Tequila Sunrise (£4.95) for my friend. We chose our dishes from the interesting menu which included dishes we had experienced in Czechoslovakia and since the split. My friend and I have become Pescatarians/Vegetarians since our travels and the menu included a whole vegetarian section with some interesting vegetarian dishes, although none with seafood surprisingly. I thought I could add an extra side dish but the waitress advised that it would be too much. Our host has a peculiar diet and ordered a weird combination not on the menu but she agreed to cater for his demands. The drinks came in good time and by by 8pm we were toasting with selfies. Our host asked for an extra Cointreau to bolster his Olga's drink as he likes his drinks strong (it came up on the bill at £3 later as expected). My friend found his TS quite adequate. We confirmed with the waitress that she was the famed Anna from Hungary and she posed with us for another selfie! The dishes arrived by 8:23 and were hearty and generous as we were used to in those and other countries in Central Europe. My friend and I had chose the two different veggie dishes of Stuffed Potato Pancakes (£8.50) and a Stew (£7.95) with accompanying salads and side dishes of Chips and Potato Wedges respectively. The Side Salads included rocket and slightly braised red cabbage. We shared bits of each others' and agreed that they were two very tasty dishes! The chips were very good too, as were the tasty potato wedges. The dishes were quite filling too, another pint was in order for my friend and myself. Our host had ordered a half litre bottle of 'Perliva' fizzy water (£1.75) but a 375c bottle of Strathmore arrived. His Stuffed Breaded Chicken (£9.75) came with boiled parsleyed potatoes and an extra portion of tartar sauce and (50p) sauerkraut (unlisted) as he had ordered despite being advised not to. He also had the red cabbage and rocket side salad. He found the food very tasty and cooked well but too much to eat (he was warned!) so let us have some he could not eat (I never allow anything left at a restaurant as it is an insult to the chef and also my mum went through WW2 as a refugee in East Prussia eating bark off birch trees!). I found the sauerkraut to be fresh, a bit oily but not fermented/vinegary like I am used to (no problem as it varies regionally). At the end we were all very full but the menu offered deserts which we thought we could squeeze in (we rarely have starters or deserts but this was a treat). At 9pm we ordered the menus again to browse the deserts. By then a few other people had arrived to dine including someone who behaved like the boss/owner along with a friend. The group of four left and Anna cleared the table and relaid it. The place was still not even a third full which we thought surprising for such a quality establishment. We ordered our deserts and they came quickly. I had the recommended honey and walnut Marlenka slice of cake with foam cream and drizzled chocolate (£2.95) which I regretted as it was factory produced, too sweet, sticky and not my type of pudding at all; oh well, my mistake. My friend fared better with a generous, tasty and not so sweet jam stuffed Pancake (£3.25) with cream and chocolaty sauce whilst our host had a Black Forest Sundae (£4.50) which he managed to finish because it was so nice.We finished by 9:10 and my friend decided to round the meal off with a single Slivovica (£3/£3.75).By 9:15 we ordered the bill and it arrived printed at £68.65. As we were treating our host we did not examine it too much and took the sum to be quite reasonable. They only took cash so my friend and I collated our monies together. Our host (who did not see the bill) offered to pay the service on top of the total so added an extra tenner in cash to cover his extra Cointreau too.We paid and left pleased and sated. Later I examined the bill and noticed a couple of small anomalies such as overcharged sparkling water (no doubt Cz water is hard to source but it was a big bottle specified) and the tartare sauce/sauerkraut mix up (but undercharged) which compensated but was no big deal as the overall meal was wonderful. On writing this review almost two weeks later and going through the pictures taken I now realise that the original total was £57.20 to which they added £11.45 on top which I now see as an automatic 20% service charge which I had not seen specified anywhere on the menu or in the restaurant (I am used to scouring both sources!). It seems then we gave an £18 tip (30%) which is quite extravagant for us; our mistake for not checking the bill in detail at the time. The service was excellent, albeit there were very few diners so Anna had time for us.We all went for a walk (via a Serbian Orthodox Church nearby) about town, had a drink in the Wygston's House Bar and returned via the restaurant at about 11:15 which was still quiet with the 'boss' character chatting with more friends. Our host went home to bed so my friend and I went to the busy Dover Castle nearby and returned to the flat via the restaurant to find the same characters chatting away at about 00:20.A very nice place with excellent good value food which ought to be frequented more. Just check the bill and the service if you think it is worth it!

We booked this Czech/Slovakian restaurant because we were not familiar with food from this part of Europe and fancied trying something a bit different. The restaurant is quite small, sitting on a fairly busy road and is fairly informal. Having taken a bit of a gamble, we were heartened to find native speakers inside (always a good sign). A lovely meal. We had 3 courses. The service from 'Anna' was lovely. She was very keen to encourage us to eat certain dishes which for me was fine as I had little previous experience of this style of cuisine. For example I chose dumplings with my chicken in batter and was advised that this would be better with rice. That for me was helpful. The puddings were delicious and less than £3. The drinks were good. My Czech beer was lovely and around £3.50, excellent for a restaurant in my opinion. Overall the food was very good value -around £16-17 for 3 courses.

We have only been once before , it was pretty fantastic that time . For what ever reason that was a coupe of years ago but on a whim we returned. What a great idea , food was nothing short of fantastic, beer great and reasonable price . We will definitely not leave it as long next time .

I went to the restaurant last night and it was fabulous. The food was fantastic as was the service. Being celiac it is hard to find places you feel secure eating and they were very helpful and knowledgeable. Will be going back soon.

Decent cheap European beer. Sausage starter was great, kind of like chorizo. Goulash and dumplings was also very tasty. Restaurant has a homely feel to it. Cash only!

We spotted this little restaurant after a meal at the lovely Italian next door, and were intrigued. We finally managed to get to try it after booking a table (it's very popular at weekends, so book if you want to ensure you get in), and we were not disappointed. The meals were all delicious and reasonably priced, the service was very friendly and helpful, and there is a very warm and laid back atmosphere to the place. Unfortunately, we couldn't sample the desserts as we were all too full after our starters and mains. We will definitely be going back in the not to distant future. Remember to take cash as credit cards not accepted.

was looking for somewhere to eat before going to the theatre, and no where was taking our fancy, so just come across this by pure accident as looked down the road and show the italian next door and saw this on the corner though from the outset l thought it was a shop. so when we got to it was very pleasantly surprised and fancying something different we went in. the whole place has a homely friendly atmosphere. there is a great range of food to choice from, all freshly cooked. even my daughter who is fussy when it comes to food tried something new, both starter and main course. l had a bowl of bean and potato soup which was so yummy and very filling to the point where having eaten half of my dinner my husband had to finish it off.even the music in there was great 80's classic all sang in czech or slovaka which was great. the food was very reasonable. though its cash only.

Friendly, small restaurant with delicious home cooked food and great beers at a reasonable price. Sauerkraut was especially tasty. We didn't have much time as we were going to the theatre but the friendly staff made sure we were served promptly. Looking forward to going back and trying some more dishes.

Eastern European cuisine is hearty and filling,so if you are looking for good, homemade for food, try Tatra,a typical example but of the fare you would find in Prague or Bratislava.Try the local sausage for starters and the potato pancakes with chicken, mushroom and kapusta, followed by cake washed down with Kozol beer.Service is not the quickest and electronic payment is not possible, but the ambience is good and the staff are friendly.
