Recommend booking to come here as they get very busy! Food always comes out piping hot! Very flavourful and recommend the set meals. Staff are polite and hardworking. Would definitely return!

Very relaxed and quiet. Nice atmosphere. Great food and good selection of wines beer and spirits. Great servers who had time for you, and chopsticks on request.

We have been coming here almost every week for the past 2 years. We came in on a Saturday evening at 9pm to be told no tables available. There were only 2 tables occupied - they were definitely not fully booked - they did not want any more customers. We said to the very rude waitress ‘we have been coming here for years’ her response was ‘I know - I don’t care’. I really hope the owner Lynn is proud to have you working for her? Your loss is a competitors gain. I always questioned the poor reviews this restaurant received but can now see why. The food was lovely - the staff NOT!

Very disappointing, food was bland, no flavour or seasoning. Very greasy. The satay chicken tasted of citrus and was very watery. Noodles bland and no substance.

Very disappointed with our meal this evening. This was our third or fourth meal here, but the service has definitely gone down hill quite a lot. My main was the Lamb with ginger, the meat was very chewy, though the taste was good. The very young staff seemed more interested in chatting to each other than serving. When we paid the bill we did not even get the usual hot towel and fortune cookies. Our next Chinese meal will be a takeaway from the place at the other end of town!

Always get a great meal at TOTO . Brillaint takeaway food aswell which is fresh and doesnt give you a belly ache !!

When I got there the food was amazing and the staff was very nice and chatty(when we started talking to them).

One of our favourite Chinese, and when we go to Burnham we tend to stop off here for a meal. The food was very tasty and despite booking it for 6pm, we arrived in a very wet and windy Burnham too early. After trying to walk on the beach we gave up and went to the restaurant who were happy for us to go in early.The food was hot and fresh and we were not rushed at all. The drinks were reasonably priced and we really enjoyed our visit. The price was reasonable too, although we ordered several dishes and starters we were surprised that the bill was so reasonable.

Excellent Chinese takeaway/restaurant. We stay in Brean Once a year and always have a takeaway on the last night of our holiday,this place never disappoints,far better than any of our local restaurants. Highly recommended!

Came to Burnham on Sea for a caravan weekend. Was my partners birthday and was a really nice meal. Was on a Sunday and the only 2 in the restaurant so service was great! Food tasted lovely and dishes were quite big so we couldn't eat it all. It did all come out within about 5-10 minutes of ordering which was interesting, so I assume it was heated up but it tasted amazing so can't complain really :)

Great Chinese, looked at alternatives near by but this won our interest. Food was excellent quality and prices were fair. Only used the takeaway service, but the restaurant look very good! Will eat here again.

we booked to eat here to eat on Friday. Booking in advance was accepted via email. They accommodated our table of 7. The staff all wore face masks and the restaurant was covid 18 friendly. The waitress went through the menu with us and explained all the dishes we had questions about. She helped us with our youngest child's meal choice (there is no children's menu) but I ordered the sweet and sour chicken. This portion was big enough for our 4 year old to have a few pieces and he was happy saying they were the best chicken nuggets he had eaten :)Food was reasonably priced, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Will definitely be returning next time we stay in burnam on sea

I was dining alone tonight, having an evening to myself, and was very happy with my meal and the service at Taste of the Orient. The waitresses were delightful young women, friendly and very knowledgeable of the food, and were working hard to keep everything clean and hygienic in light of Covid. I only had vegetarian "chicken" in tao pang sauce with egg fried rice, but I enjoyed every mouthful! The hot towel and fortune cookie at the end were a nice touch.

Went there last night for family birthday meal. Food was very nice but what made it for me were the waitresses. They were delightful and very attentive and made the whole experience very pleasant.

Not been here for a few years due to food not being very good before, thought would try it for a change.Very pleasant surprise the food and portion size excellent, waitress was friendly and helpful.

One & only visit, No knives & forks ( not everyone can use chopsticks) our food came without a hot plate to keep it warm & no dinner plates to eat from, we were expected to use our side plates. We made our thoughts felt & left & went round the corner to the Shah Indian where we knew we would get a really good meal.

Literally just picked up a takeaway from this establishment as the normal takeaway our relatives use was closed due to chinese new year. I dont think, I know this was the worst takeaway I have ever bought and considering spending just over £40 on it I'm not best pleased. The chicken balls came with a pot of vinegar (not sweet and sour sauce). The special chow mein was nothing like it should be and looked more like a birds nest. The chicken curry wasn't chicken curry for sure and my wife was nearly sick after a mouthful. Not one of the dishes we had came with any sauce apart from the random sauce in the chicken curry, I could complain about every single dish but i think that is enough to show people on trip advisor that it's not great at all. Wife has now gone back to town to find a different source of food and it all went in the bin.

Had a lovely dinner for two at Taste Of The Orient. The veggie choices were superb & my companion enjoyed his fish dish. Friendly staff with great service Good selection of alcoholic & soft drinks. Recommended. I’ll definitely be back again soon.

They are Back! Pleased to say that Lin and Dave are back running the Taste of the Orient, their high standard of service and portions have returned !!

I visited taste of the orient in September of this year as an anniversary meal with my partner. It was the first time I had visited for a while, I noticed the portion sizes seemed to have shrunk since our last visit and the wait time for our meal was ridiculous. So having waited for our main course for almost an hour I was crushed at how little food we had to share between the two of us, we left feeling cheated as our meal was very expensive for what we had received. We were in town at the weekend just gone for the Christmas light switch on with our children, we were starving and the taste of the orient was the closest restaurant that had a table available. We went in to ask for a table and we were greeted by new waitresses. I enquired as to why there was all new waiting staff, to be told that the restaurant is now under new ownership, as of carnival night. We were seated at a table and served very quickly. The portion sizes were double what we had last time (same price) and tasted amazing. The wait staff were friendly and very accommodating to my two young children. Telling my little boy he could have a lolly if he was a good boy and ate all of his dinner. This experience was so much more pleasant than my last visit, we have booked in again for a family meal before Christmas. Looking back through the reviews of this place over the last few weeks it seems as though it had gotten very bad, so let’s hope the new owners keep up the good work! ☺️

Staff very helpful, talking through options. Delicious tasty vegetarian food, especially the salt and chilli baby sweetcorn and the Kung Po. Hubby (who is flexitarin) ordered a meat dish and said he far preferred the veggie options!

Logged on while sitting waiting for my food - ordered 25 minutes ago and just told another 20 minutes to wait. We're not the only ones - the party next to us look like missing there cinema time as they've been waiting for so long, overheard the waitress saying they'd ordered an hour ago!If the food is the same as normal, it will be lovely, just such a pity about the service and it looks like there's a lot of similar reviews at the moment.

The very best Chinese food ever! Hot, tasty, wonderful menu to suit everyone. They even go that little extra and serve chips for those who request them.

We have visited here before and had good service and food, however last night we went with friends for dinner arriving early in the evening, the restaurant was busy but expected on a weekend, the order was taken quickly and the first part of the set meal delivered reasonably quickly, however none of the staff asked if we wanted drinks after the first order was taken, we had to ask and the main course took ages to arrive. At the end of the meal which took 2 1/2 hours in total ! The waitress asked if everything had been ok, when we asked about the delay we were told they had been busy with telephone orders, no one at any point came and apologised for the delay and it appeared everyone was waiting a long time for their food whilst the takeaway orders didn’t, I totally support local business’s and like them to do well but last night seemed to be chaotic which is a real disappointment.

We decided that as a treat, we would go to the Taste of the Orient instead of getting a takeway from another establishment in town. The first part of the evening went ok, we were served relatively quickly and drinks were served pretty much straight away. The first couple of courses came within a normal time scale, but the next course arrived 2 hours after we arrived at the restaurant. At no time, did the serving staff come and offer us more drinks, despite the staff hanging around the bar when they weren't taking food orders to customers. One staff member advised that they were so busy, the kitchen couldnt cope which is why everything was so slow. No apology for the delay. Another member also said that the kitchen couldnt cope, but she did offer an apology. In the past, the owner kept a very close eye on her staff, ensuring that the customers had drinks and advising people on timings etc. There didnt seem to be anyone in chargeNext time we fancy a chinese, we will be sticking to our normal take away. Such a shame as it has always been a reliable place to go.

Well the dishes didn't taste of much and the portion size was a child's size.

We easily got a table and the food was standard Chinese stuff although we have had better quality starters in other places.

My family and I come here often and we’ve never had any problems. The restaurant is always clean and tidy, the food is lovely and the staff are friendly. I just wish they had air conditioning as it always gets so hot in there.

I am not in the habit of writing bad Trip Advisor reviews, however I'm left no choice after writing 2 polite letters to this restaurant and having them both ignored. I have had lovely food from the this restaurant and often recommend it when asked by people where to eat in the town. Sadly, back in July my vegetarian partner was served chicken. For anyone who has had the meat substitutes, you will know they are very good! So it took us a while to realise. As soon as I did, we told the waitress who, instead of apologising, blamed us. During my discussion with the manager, the same waitress said 'It's not like it's an allergy, it's a lifetstyle choice'. So it doesn't matter if you serve meat to vegetarians as it's only a lifestyle choice? As we were leaving the restaurant - unhappily! - my friend asked the waitress 'Do you not get how big a deal this is? She hasn't eaten meat for 40 years. The waitress laughed and said 'Not my problem'. I didn't want anything for free from this restaurant - I haven't been back. What I wanted was a proper apology and an acknowledgement that their staff had been rude and should not have spoken to paying customers in this way.

I got a take away yesterday 5th of September. I ordered egg fried rice and some pork balls. I was disappointed with both of these products. The egg fried rice tasted like Uncle Ben made it and the pork balls tasted like they made from left of sausage meet from god no where.i am also a local and would use again but only if they changed the way they make and supply their food. Hopefully they will see this.

Got a take away from here during our holiday. Everything was correct and ready for collection at specified time, Good quality food, will use them again

We were seated near the part where the takeaways were ordered, and the waitress had to walk through to serve etc, and so my chair was continuously kicked or knocked. The food wasn’t great either, I can only imagine it was cooked by a non Chinese chief, eatable but ethnic taste. The waiters and waitresses seem to lack interest.

After reading the mixed reviews we neally gave this Chinese a miss, really glad we didn't, the food was top notch, nice and hot and the staff really friendly, don't know what the problem was with the negative reviews, I suppose you can never please some people, take my advice and try for yourselves and make your own mind up.

We had a lovely meal here. The food was excellent and the service was efficient but unobtrusive. We had had a stressful day and this was the perfect antidote : A bottle of wine, iced water, good food and a relaxed atmosphere even though the restaurant was quite busy.

I had been to the taste of the orient many times and absolutely loved it. We went there on the 6th of July with my partner and a fried and we ordered 2 vegetarian set menus and other non vegetarian dishes , one was a chicken kung po and a veggie Kung Po . We started eating and my partner noticed something funny about the veggie kuna Po and age ashes the waiter of that was the vegetarian and he says not that’s the chicken . We told them that we were vegetarians and the waitress said, did you not notice the extra chilies , no we didn’t, she was very dismissive and never apologize and went off. We told them repeatedly that I had not eaten meat in 40 years .The bill came in full , and my partner asked if they were really going to charge us the full amount , they offered to take 10% and then took one vegetarian meal off . I have never felt so disrespected as a vegetarian , the waitress said and I quote

Myself and my partner stayed overnight in Burnham, never been before. Walking round in the evening looking for somewhere to eat and came across this little gem. We were going to the cinema so decided to eat here first. Arrived at 1800 on a Saturday and already some tables occupied.

Dropped into the restaurant without booking, fortunately they gave us a table. Very friendly staff both English and Chinese. The food was hot and plentiful and reasonably priced. We even had a takeaway later on in the week.

This is a nice restaurant with lovely staff, but we felt that the food was a bit boring. There was nothing spicy or interesting and we felt that they were catering more for a Western palette. Not bad, but not great.

Whilst on holiday in Burnham-on-Sea on Friday the 12th April 2019 we had a meal

Staying at the Burnham Haven site last week we opted to try this Chinese and wasn't disappointed. Good table service and tasty meals all round, my Singapore vermicelli was very good and spiced to the right level, we also had some items off the specials menu and they we also very good. reasonably priced drinks. Worth a visit.

We had a meal here last week , my husband enjoyed his chicken with ginger and spring onions very much but I was disappointed with my choice . I ordered grilled chicken breast with garlic and wine sauce , what I got resembled and tasted like a frozen birds eye steak that had been fried and certainly not grilled and was sitting in a vinigary liquid . I think a better description of the dish would have meant I would have ordered something different and this would have been a higher rated review . The service was good .

Hadn’t visited Taste Of The Orient for a while but decided to have a meal in there this evening. Very friendly & prompt service. Excellent vegetarian choices which were both tasty & filling. Will definitely not leave it so long to visit next time. Very reasonable pricing also. Highly recommended.

We visited last night with friends to celebrate 2 birthdays. Booked the table for 7.00pm (4 people). We were on time and arrived at the same time as a family of 4 who sat next to us. We didn't get food until after I complained that we had been waiting for 45 minutes. The table next to us were on their second course and we were still waiting! We received one starter and 10 minutes later came 2 more and finally the 4th! When we got our main courses they were small with lots of onion and peppers and a tiny amount of meat. We won't be going there again!!

Had a take away last night following the reviews from trip advisor I can only assume the chef had the night off

On previous visits in 2018 I rated this restaurant 5 but on this occasion it was terrible. The staff seemed disinterested e.g. I had to request 3 times for rice bowls and the choice of dessert. The quality of food was very poor e.g. Ordered sweet and sour vegetable and chicken curry. In both cases it was mainly chopped onion and the source was extremely thin. During our visit only 2 customers came for a take away and only on table was occupied.

On my own and away with business on a Monday, I was looking for a peaceful place to have a relaxed meal. There is no shortage of restaurants up and down the high street but I wanted a Chinese meal and came across the Taste of the Orient. Looking through the window there were groups of people eating, always a good sign, and it was about half full. This was very good as all the other restaurants were empty.

We decided to have a Chinese takeaway this evening, and we were so disappointed with the quality of food from this place. I would say it is the worst Chinese I have ever had. Egg fried rice was cold and congealed, and the other two dishes we ordered had barely a vegetable in them - quite disgusting. Would never buy from here again. Very very disappointed at the quality of the food.

We use this place for a take-away almost weekly and for the last few weeks their timing to collect meals and correctness of order has been a nightmare.

Another takeaway tonight. The standard, as before, is marvellous. This time we tried Crispy Duck, absolutely lovely. Cannot recommend this establishment highly enough. A pleasure eating their food.

Chicken satay starter was excellent, awesome sauce and plenty of it. Crispy duck was cooked perfectly, nice thick hoi sin sauce and fresh cucumber and spring onions too (could have done with 1 more pancake).

Lovely food,very good prices. Deffinatly recomend. No parking, but free parking after 6pm in the side streets.

I rarely go to Somerset but when I do I LOVE to go to this place! It hasn't changed in the 10 years that I have been going!

Popped in on an autumn Tuesday evening and had an absolutely delicious dinner - quickly prepared, piping hot, tasted fresh and extremely tasty sauces - we over ordered but managed to finish everything, and the bill was pleasantly reasonable! This was our first visit but certainly won't be our last when we are down in that area.

Booked here for our 25th wedding anniversary. So glad we did as we had a fantastic night. We decided to try the set meal as we have never tried it before. We had the mixed stater which we both enjoyed. Next was the crispy duck pancakes. That was amazing. Then the main course came. Chicken vegetables, Hong Kong style chicken and sizzling beef in black bean sauce, all with egg fried rice. The portions were a little smaller than normal but glad they were as is was a large selection. Staff were all friendly and helpful and had a really nice evening.

Shared the vegetarian set menu with my husband who is vegetarian. Really tasty meal and plenty of it, spicy where it needed to be. I also ordered the king prawn in black bean sauce which is highly recommended, Service was top notch as always.

Ordered the Singapore noodles and although I really liked how clean it appeared i.e not swimming in grease the dish was very tasteless and contained no chillies! It also contained hardly any meat at all just tiny minute meat cubes scattered. Very disappointing and unfulfilling. It was the same with the chow mein dish. The sweet and sour chicken balls were pleasant but just lacked depth of flavour. The sweet and sour sauce was too thin. The chicken curry was very strange and was left by everyone. The "crab" and sweetcorn soup was the best dish because it had some favour! The portions were quite small for the price so this coupled with the lack of flavour we won't rush back.

After my recent visit for dinner it’s generous to give this restaurant 3 stars. For those who eat at excellent UK restaurants for Asian cuisine or have been lucky enough to have eaten in Asia, the difference in quality is remarkable.

Recently visited The Taste of the Orient for a takeaway. Whilst it was not cheap the standard of the food was excellent, I cannot recommend it too highly.

I have been to this restaurant many times, and have always had excellent service, in a lovely atmosphere and food which is cooked to order and very tasty. I think that this is one of the best Chinese restaurants I have visited, although it is not cheap.

Friendly staff and very good service. Accommodated my daughter with a special dietary requirement without any problems. Food was of a very good standard and a reasonable price.

Visited last year and gave it a 5 star so returned again this June (visited on a Thursday). Food, cost, service and ambience even better. When we finished our meal I noticed there was only 2 small tables available, which suggests it was a popular venue.

Visited last night and were pleased to get one of the last tables as we had not booked. Friendly staff and generally good service. However, the food is not good- never had Singapore noodles without any chillies before. Schezuan chicken again had limited taste or spices and very gloopy. Lamb in chilli sauce was just cooked lamb in bottled sweet chilli sauce- I’ve cooked better myself!. The noodles were advertised on the menu as hot- totally incorrectly. Raised with staff and was told they had to dumb down the spices as others had complained. So don’t go if you want flavoursome and aromatic Asian cuisine. If they are catering for the less adventurous with this non- authentic taste I would suggest you would be more suited staying at home with a microwave meal.

I really don't understand how anyone can give this place 5 stars. The food is strange for a Cantonese restaurant. We ordered a Singapore fried rice and vermicelli. Both were not spicy at all. The pork balls were made with mince meat instead of pieces of meat and the sweet and sour sauce was thinner than water. The prawn chow mein was ok but not the best and all came in the smallest takeaway cartons you can buy. All.in all it was really poor. If you know Cantonese Chinese food you will agree with a 0/5 If you know nothing you will give these guys a 5/5.

Here on holiday in Brean and so glad we stumbled across this lovely Chinese restaurant today. A lovely welcome when we arrived and the food was lovely, I’m a fussy person and could not find any faults. The saluted pepper ribs starters were the best...

Very friendly and accommodating owners. Walked in off the street and they found us a table for three. The set meal B was lovely, freshly cooked, piping hot. Found suitable menu for my sons nut allergy.

Had a fantastic meal here, really good value. Lots of choices for vegetarians with all of the mock meats they offer, they also do tofu if that’s not your thing. Had the set vegetarian meal and others had a meat one, everyone happy with the plentiful food.

The location of place is nice as it's in the centre of town. The food was average. I won't recommend this place to others.

Visited here for my partners birthday meal and we were very impressed, we both had chow mien which was the best we have ever had! I also had taste of starters for my starter which was lovely! We had free prawn crackers to start as well.

We were stopping in the town for a few nights & decided to finish our break off with a chinese meal. We certainly made a good choice as we found the food and service to be of excellent quality, The choices were varied & reasonable priced as was the wine list. All in all we enjoyed a excellent meal, and would recomend.

The restaurant is well decorated and I found the staff well presented and polite. There was a good range on the menu and the quality of the food we ordered was very high.

The food is scrummy here would definitely recommend,the prices are very reasonable and the staff and sevice where very good. Will definitely be returning when in the area again.

Cycling round the coast of Britain in stages...Sept 2017 leg...after finding a marvellous B & B our next thought was food. Having read various reviews of various restaurants we chose Taste of the Orient. We couldn't have made a better choice. Excellent service and excellent food.

I am not a fan of Chinese cooking in the U.K. (outside of China Town in London where the food can be excellent) so when we visited my daughter and Son in Law and it was suggested we had a Chinese takeaway my heart sank.

The food is excellent, the prices mid-range, we have tried others in Burnham on Sea, but this is the best.

Worth noting that this restaurant is NOT open at lunchtime despite the website and trip advisor saying that it is.

I have just returned from another weeks Holiday in Brean just outside Burnham and went to the Taste Of the Orient Chinese Restaurant and the food is Fabulous and at very good prices. The young waiters and waitresses are all excellent and very good at there job. The Manageress who is obviously the Owner can be heard shouting and barking orders at the young members of staff which we found very funny and entertaining but some people might not like this approach from the owner.

Being able to eat curries in Birmingham I am used to a good standard. This restaurant is well equal to these. It has a very good menu and the staff are very friendly. If you want a curry then try here.

What can I say about this place. I ordered a takeaway and on arrival I was told that it was not ready at the agreed time and I would have to wait. While sitting waiting I could see into the kitchen. I noticed an order waiting to go out. After waiting 30 minutes pass my pick up time and watching other customers pick up their orders I decided to ask where mine was. A young man who referred to me as MATE said he would look for it. Well to my surprise he brought out the order that I had seen on the side from earlier. He passed it to me and I could see that it was cold. I asked if it could be reheated and at this point the manager who is the rudest person I have ever met came over and said that it would not be recooked and I should microwave it when I got home. Spring rolls in the microwave. Yum. I like them soggy. I then asked for my money back to which the manger said she didn't have time for me and pushed some cash into my hand. No apologies, nothing. She also has no grasp about food safety regarding reheating rice etc. The service here is disgusting and the staff disorganised. Customers in the restaurant had to ask continually for their drinks. No one has a clue what is going on. Save your money and get a takeaway from DragonRise down the road.

We went for an evening meal while on holiday in Burnham-on-Sea and managed to get in without booking a table, although if we had arrived not much later than we did (around 7pm) we may have had to wait. We ordered set meal B for 2, which a lot of people there that evening were doing, each course arrived quite quickly, service was very good and the staff friendly. The food was as good as any other restaurant I have been to and was the right quantity for the two of us.

Had a fabulous takeaway from here while staying in Burnham last year, and had been looking forward to repeating the experience during our return this year. Sadly, not to be. Had the hors douvres to start. Dry spare ribs were overdone and tough, and the salt n chilli squid were soggy, rubbery and chewy. (and that was just the batter). Couldn't taste any hint of chilli either. Chicken satay to be fair was spot on! You win some, you lose some!

Food wise, I didn’t think it was worthy of the other reviews I had read but I live in Scotland and maybe it is down to differing tastes and/or how the food is made north and south of the border. The food had some reasonable flavours to it and I did eat it all, but I wouldn’t rush back for another.
