Taste of India IoW in Isle of Wight

Tucked away in almost a side street, this restaurant is a must to visit. We had the set meal for 2 which was more than enough to eat. The food was of good quality and highly recommended.

Collected a takeaway for the family en route to our holiday cottage. Very poor quality curries. Hardly any meat and watery sauce.

Excellent service and food was very good and tasty. We had the set meal for 2. This restaurant doesn’t have an alcohol license, which we didn’t know about, but this wasn’t a problem as the Co-op was still open so hurried along to buy some beer. The restaurant staff willingly offered bottle opener and glasses. Thank you.

My husband and I enjoyed our takeaway - vegetable samosas and saag aloo were really nice. Only reason I'm giving 4 out of 5 stars is because we ordered one chicken and one vegetable curry and they were mainly sauce - very thin on the "fillings" and the sauces were a little runny but would happily order again regardless.

Just had a delivery from here for the first time. It was absolutely beautiful food. It’s the first time I have ever enjoyed Indian cuisine. I’ve never been a lover but my husband loves it so I thought we would have a delivery this evening. It was very very good and I am now a covert. We will be ordering from here again next week and will only use this Indian restaurant.

Had a takeaway tonight, prawn curry and egg fried rice, without doubt the best Indian food I have ever tasted. I will certainly go back again.

We come here often and as such don't review, however, our food is always of such a high standard, the staff are great. We always have a laugh with them and tonight I had the best tandoori mixed grill I have had. These guys are so busy with takeaway, but always make us feel welcome. We will be back....again.

Placed an order for delivery, took nearly 2hours to be delivered- no answer when I called to check if there was a problem? When the driver finally arrived he shoved the bag at me, food was cold, stodgy, tasteless - we couldn’t eat it, sadly ended up in bin. Tried numerous times to contact the restaurant so they could address my complaint, no response. Particularly annoying as I paid extra for delivery & gave a tip at the time of order online.

We are visiting from the mainland. Saw this place on line and what a place it was. Stunning restaurant. Staff were very friendly. The food was absolutely incredible and was the best curry I have ever had. Will be coming back next year. If you haven't been before then get yourself down there you be disappointed.

Very welcoming. Good food including vegetarian food. They were very accommodating with our drinks- don’t forget if you want alcohol: bring your own. They do have a large selection of non alcoholic drinks.

First impression was there was a lot of sauce and no substance. We ordered the set meal for 2. 3 little bits of chicken and 3 burnt onion bhajis as the starter. The chicken tikka masala was chicken bits swimming in a lurid sweet red sauce, definitely not cooked together. There were 4 bits of fatty lamb in the bhuna and for some reason 2 containers of a veg curry with no flavour but loads of slimy potato. I don't think any of it had seen any spices.Would I go there again, definitely not and would recommend that noone did. The staff did not speak to my husband when he ordered or when he collected the ghastly meal.

Ordered two curries both were jaw achingly sweet with palm sugar and the naan was dry as a bone. The Tikka I ordered had no hint of the tangy savoury flavour you'd expect in the most basic tikka sauce. Just extremely sweet bright red sauce...

Very abrupt attitude from taking the phone call to handing the takeaway to me. The lamb biriani was the worst I’ve ever had. The meat content was poor and so much oil! I threw it away and didn’t even bother to eat it. Never again!

The taste is completely different, it used to be true Indian flavours but now it's Bangladeshi food, using cheaper products but raised the prices and also adding charge for delivery, certainly won't be using again, will go bk to Chinese in future. We also enjoyed having the lovely Cobra beer with our sit down meal. They don't sell alcoholic drinks, we had to go across the road to the ship and castle pub.

Lovely curry that is matched by their food from their Newport outlets. Always a good quality although I have noticed they are starting to put in tinned carrots and tomatoes instead of using fresh products like they use to. Still tastes wonderful but don't let you standard slip please.

Booked a table for a family evening meal and were absolutely blown away with the service and friendly staff and the food that was on offer.We all chose a different meal and there were no complaints as the meals were cooked fresh and delivered to the table piping hot, we all were very satisfied with what we ordered and will definitely be visiting again when we are back in October.The price was very reasonableI would highly recommend

We had a takeaway but had to return it. Our curry was tasteless and the "sauce" was like water. No flavour, no texture, bland, bland, bland. The onion bhaji was tasteless also. This restaurant USED to be good when they first opened, but not anymore!

We enjoyed our curries and were well served by attentive and enthusiastic staff. Chicken Jalfrezi and Tarka Dahl were especially tasty and went well with soylagets. We will be coming again

We came across this restaurant on the way back to the Redfunnel Ferry. As we were short of time (30 mins), we thought it would be best to grab a take away. When we arrived at the restaurant we were warmly greeted by the manager, who offered (free drinks) and chatted with us while we waited for the food. He also spent a lot of time discussing the different dishes for the vegetarian and gluten-free guests amongst us. The food arrived within 5-10 mins and the manager kindly gave us complimentary wooden utensils and paper plates as he knew we were eating the food in transit. He also recommended we ate the food inside the waiting area of red funnel ferries as there were tables and chairs that we could use. This was a great tip and it became a very enjoyable and economical way of eating a meal. The food was extremely tasty and we managed to eat everything including the complimentary poppadoms and sauces/dips. We will definitely return if we visit the Isle of Wight again. However, the manager has given us details of his friend who has a restaurant near where we live in London and as he recommended it, we will definitely be eating there too. We eat a lot of Indian food both at home and out and the food at the Taste of India was some of the best we have had. Enjoy!

Ordered takeaway from here yesterday , the food was bland , not nice at all , The amount you get is pitiful for the price , the salad barley covered the bottom of the bag when opened , the amount of chutney again barley covered the bottom of the tubs , I have ordered and eaten here several times but sorry it has gone downhill , wasted my money

Worst Indian food ever tasted, how can someone make such a pathetic Indian curries and Naan and not afraid to sell them to common public.If you are a food lovers and know the taste of authentic Indian food, this place is not for you.Service,daal,aloo,bhindi and specially parantha is worst. Aloo chat and Papadum are only option to eat. Don't waste your time and money in this place.Won't recommend it to anybody.

It is quite a trend to have INDIA in the name of the restaurant, no certificate needed for that. But to cook Indian food needs some level of knowledge of spices and flavor. The cooks in this restaurant have absolutely no clue what India food is like and how to use the spices. It was like one gravy with uncooked spices for almost every dish. Chilli Paneer was like a Paneer Masala gravy with uncooked spices and no sauces ( main taste bringer to Chilli paneer). Paratha was so pathetic that even a dog would be scared to eat it. We left 60% of the food as is on the table and left. And to top it all when we told the person in charge, instead of discussing about the food he said we are the top rated on trip advisor. Never ever go to this place, eat a normal sandwich or chips if you are very hungry, there is a Co-op food store nearby.

Maybe India's foreign ministry act on places like this to use "India" in their names. The food is not Indian at all, just cooking naan or curries or using Indian spices don't make any restaurant Indian. Visited the restaurant for dinner in June'19, got fooled by name and reviews. Pathetic service and food. It took half an hour for just water to come at the start. Then the food came, and we regretted why we came here at first after a tiring travel day. The taste was not there in any of the items, preparation of the food was bad.

It surprises me that TripAdvisor rates it as the best Indian restaurant in IoW. I have never had such pale Indian food before. All the dishes tasted similar. I opted for a spicy Chicken Hyderabadi recommended by the staff, only to be find it to be a sweet curry dish. Will never recommend this place, one cant just serve anything in the name of Indian dishes.

Take away review - Wanted to order meal for two people and was told they don't have it as part of the menu. I pointed out it was on their leaflet and the girl on the phone checked and confirmed i could order it. Maybe her first day, no problem.

I hate writing bad reviews about my favourite food, but the Taste of India failed on every level and is fully deserving of the lowest rating possible. The restaurant’s website says it aspires to be the best Indian restaurant on the Isle of Wight. Based on my experience they are a million miles away from that and here’s why:

We went to the Taste of India last week for a change, we were really pleased we went and the meal was lovely, just what you would hope for, we all enjoyed the evening , which was made even better by the very pleasant chap who was in charge.

We usually order take out the food is always top quality! Highly recommend to any vegetarian or vegan to try as they will do a great job for you! The veg Jalfrezi and Dansak are fantastic! I always order a Madras sauce too just for dipping your naan etc in it’s the best ! Nothings too much trouble and Vamsi will take care of your needs excellent in-house and take out ! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Went to see friends on island for weekend. Decided to go for an Indian. When we entered we were greeted with a smile and offered various places to sit which was nice. Waiter was very attentive and helped with choosing food as i dont like it to spicy. During the meal the owner came to see everything was ok and had a quick chat and laugh. Fab athmosphere and very chilled. Service was perfect and restaurant was spotless so would recommend to eat there or even just for a drink.

We decided to stop by for a Curry on our way home after coming off the Red Funnel, and once I had found somewhere to park (everywhere is double yellows) we were at last in the Taste of India.

Without a doubt the best Indian restaurant and takeaway I've ever known, food is always tasty and well prepared, restaurant is clean and tidy with super friendly staff who will bend over backwards to make sure your eating experience is a good one.

The food is alway fantastic, we are going for our works do this Christmas. You won’t be disappointed. X

Food and service was excellent. The atmosphere was a bit cold. But if you don’t mind that you can have an excellent meal at a low price.

We went there as a family of 4 we ordered the set meal for 4. Was awful, food was cold. Service was a long wait. The restaurant was dead. So I do not understand as we was the only ones in the restaurant we had to wait up to 50 minutes for are mains after are starters. We asked how long it would be and kept getting told it was on its way. The was very loud and on stop so I guess that is why are food was slow because they had a rush on take aways and only 1 member of staff doing all the work. I do not recommend this restaurant. Save your money.

I've eaten here since they've opened, and I'll likely be eating here for years to come. The staff are always friendly and the food is always great. I've had parties here and family meals alike. Couldn't ask for for a better restaurant to live closer to.

Ordered a takeaway Saturday night spending over £60, arrived to collect and they were trying to give it to someone else I then asked if everything was in there that's offered for collecting a takeaway and told by a staff member who thought they were funny that no its not they leave half.out so you go back! Obviously not funny as they weren't in there when unpacked, I ordered a tikka masala and asked if they could make hotter and was told this is a mild dish anyway and they couldn't so I still went ahead.and ordered it anyway when tasting this it was sweeter than the korma and passanda and tasted like exactly the same sauce for all three but colored differently! Prawns were undercooked, naans overcooked and food cold! When I rang to complain was told when there busy the food suffers!! Crazy explanation for a restauarnt! Was then told my order would be redelivered on the Sunday night at 6pm, a gentleman came to my door for 6pm and said there was some confusion as to what items were missing from my order the previous night, so they hadn't listened to my complaints at all and had no intention of replacing the order he left saying he would bring me some money back and haven't seen or heard anything for the last two evenings! Horrendous customer service and even worse food.

We ordered for delivery at just before 8pm on a Saturday and were told it would be an hour and forty minutes - delivery was on time but was missing an item, the food wasn’t hot and, to be honest, wasn’t very tasty. The mains were just different ingredients in the same sauce and the vegetable curry was too runny. I don’t know if it’s better in-house but it hasn’t inspired us to want to visit.

We always go for an Indian when we go away as a family, and I have to say this is by far the best Indian I have had.

If your nearby then i would recommend having a meal here. The staff were friendly and made sure we had everything we wanted.

Andrea and I visited Taste of India for her birthday. The food was very nice - though not very spicy (the medium tasted mild).

We just came across this restaurant as we were driving through East Cowes looking for somewhere to eat. We noticed the 5 star hygiene rating, saw it was reasonably busy and went in. The lady, Sopna, welcomed us very pleasantly and showed us to a table. It was a little slow to get our drinks and the food took time to arrive but it was worth the wait. Better to have it cooked fresh and served piping hot than it be rushed and not cooked properly. It was cooked with just the right amount of spice (according to the chilli signs on the menu). The poppadoms were nice and crispy and came with chutney, onions, coconut and another tasty sauce. I then had chicken pathia and my husband had a king prawn dish. Both were good, as was the mushroom rice. Murad came over to us at the end and apologised for the wait (there were 4 tables of people who all arrived at once and they also had deliveries and take aways to get ready) but it really wasn’t an issue. He also gave us 15% off as there was a promotion on - a nice surprise! I’d definitely recommend this restaurant and it sounds like it’s particularly popular on a Saturday so best to book in advance.

We poped into Taste of india on Saturday evening with family on the chancevof we were hungry.Great food and very good service. The team and manager were very attentive .we had a lovely evening ang wil definitley be returning.

After an intense long day of sailing eight very tired crew with sea legs greatly enjoyed celebrating a salty sea dogs birthday here. Exuberant friendly welcome and warm service, with warmer curries and excellent value for money. Even a birthday cake thrown in on the house. Thoroughly recommended.

We ordered special food for 16 people and owner the reastaurant said food will be ready in 1 hour so we keep calling them but not answered phone then we go direct to reastaurant but even after 2 hour and 20 minutes food was not ready and said wait and we do in 10 minutes. Thats not enough but when we come home with that food, food was not even cooked properly.

As a regular I have tonight learned that if they advise that they are busy or delivery is going to be lengthy - please avoid ordering.

stupidly took chain ferry as heard good things form other people-when in Cowes High Street choice of 4 other Indian curry houses.

I visited here tonight with my husband and son. Eating out with my son can be very difficult for him as he is autistic. The staff were very welcoming straight from the off even making my son feel relaxed which is very rare. We ordered our food and just some chips for Callum as he had already had dinner earlier. Murad a member of staff came out with our starters and explained that the fryer was not working so unable to do the chips. He brought my son some onion bhajis which We explained Callum wouldn’t eat and told him not to worry. Next thing we knew a plate of French fries appeared on the table. They had made a special effort to go out and get the chips from another restaurant. It was totally unexpected but such a kind gesture. On top of the warm and friendly service the food was also delicious. Our family question is always would you eat here again and it was a definite yes from all three of us. Thank you Murad and the rest of the team for tonight.

Just tried to order a Curry we always order without Onions, very rude person on Phone said they won't do it, Chef won't do it, yet the Boss has ALWAYS done it for us.

We went to the restaurant on a Thursday evening. It was very quiet. All I have to say it was awful. Toilets are dirty, food is cold, staff are rude. I would avoid it at costs that is been honest. It was awful.

I went to this restaurant whilst visitting the island with my wife n daughter east cows .we had very nice evening ,frindly people n ,amazingly nice tasta fresh food ,good quality for money.we will be back.

We booked for dinner over the phone and on arrival were shown to a table in the corner which it was difficult to sit 4 people at. We asked to move as the restaurant was empty and they simply pulled the table away from the wall - but closer to the table behind us. Thankfully no one had to sit behind us while we were there.

Ate here a couple of times while on holiday for the week - once for a sit down meal and the other time for a takeaway. Both times the food was absolutely delicious - one of the best Indians we've had. A few people in other reviews have had issues with the service. When we ate in the restaurant is was a little on the slow side but everyone was really friendly and welcoming. From my point of view it was fine.

We visited the restaurant last night. We are a family of 5 and they were able to accommodate us easily. We ordered a large variety of starters and main courses. The waiter was attentive and the great service continued throughout the evening. The food was fantastic, everything was absolutely delicious. We had a great night and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone.

I regularly have a takeaway, whether it be collection or delivery, it is always very good, never been disappointed. All food is cooked to order, that's why it takes a little longer in some instances. As I don't like hot spicy food but love the flavours, they will cook to my requirements. The lady that delivers is always so friendly and courteous, I live on my own so it's nice to have a few words. Keep up the good work.

Ordered and collected some bhaji's this evening to accompany my homemade curry. Stale, burnt and inedible. They replaced them, but they were also stale. No apology! Not impressed! Restaurant not busy so no excuse!
