Taste Of India in Brighton and Hove

First visit to this gem of an Indian restaurant. The food was delicious with the authentic taste of southern India. Portions are generous and reasonably priced. Staff were lovely, we will definitely be eating here again.

Great onion bhaji, and fantastic Cauliflower bhaji, main curry a little disappointing, quite runny.

We dined here, and had a great time and even greater food. I ordered a chicken vindaloo, it was oozing with flavour. It was a party in my mouth.The mango lassi was so delicious. Simply Brighton's best curry!!!! The staff made the overall experience amazing. 5 stars from us!

Ordered the thick jalfrezi sauce, but it was thin. Ordered the garlic naan, but the food arrived and it wasn’t in. Ordered the Manchurian starter, this was a win. Papadums were smashed, packaging too thin. Called about missing bread, but couldn’t hear above the din. Bread arrived, after meal eaten, raising this review, from what it could have been.

Delicious and authentic food. Great service. Quite a small crowded venue, so rather noisy. I found conversation difficult to hear.

Sadly, the most bland south Indian meal I've ever had. Utterly disappointing Two weeks ago I ordered a mid week delivery and it was superb and really authentic, but a Friday take out was utter rubbish. I used to live in South India so I know what is good. I suggest you avoid weekends or they change their weekend chefs

I've been here twice. The food is decent, but the service is horrendous. The small room can get extremely loud when it's full. If you are going there, make sure you don't have any other plans later. I had to ask 4 or 5 times before the lady gave me water, which was right in front of her the whole time. Both times, they bring you your curry first (after 45 mins) and then make you wait 10 mins for the naan while your food gets cold, lol. I don't say it easily, but it's really bad service.

Take away order. The masala dosa, sambar, and chutneys are the highlight. The naan is soft and delicious, not dry and crispy. The chicken tikka masala is dominated by tomato, and the butter chicken feels like it needs more time to deliver true depth of flavour. The samosas were extremely oily - won’t be doing those again. Overall could do with 50% less oil throughout. BUT we love this place because the meal is always delicious and fulfilling overall despite some minor issues. 8/10

Absolutely love this place, amazing food and staff. Had the dosa and biryani and both were fantastic!

The food was really good, authentic flavours and good portions. We had the chicken masala dosa and the sambar was just like we make it at home. Even the kothu paratha and chicken tikka was delicious. The only thing we didn’t enjoy was the mint sauce they served with the chicken tikka- it was too sweet. Would prefer a mint chutney instead. Madrasi’s restaurant in Hove is definitely recommended!!

The food was nice however the delivery was very delayed (because the restaurant was slow). I would have ordered elsewhere if I knew it would be that long. Maybe don't take all those orders if you're that busy. Probably won't order again.

My favourite place in hove to eat at. Some places struggle to make the take away options taste as good but Madrasi’s manages to make it still taste amazing

My partner and I dined in yesterday and enjoyed the best dosas we've had in Brighton (paneer & lamb masala were both excellent). The service was fantastic and matched the quality of the food. The restaurant is small, so be sure to reserve a table to avoid disappointment as we saw some walk-ins turned away. Can't wait to go back!

Loved this place! A friend tipped us off and along we went for a dosa. I’ve spent 4 months in India so have been lucky enough to have plenty of delicious authentic food and this was right up there. They have a wide menu beyond the delicious dosas too which we happily sampled.

I love and miss this place. Went here too often when I lived round the corner. The staff are so friendly. Delicious south Indian food especially the dosas, fish moli and parathas. Can also BYOB. 5 stars!!!!

Had a couple take aways from here. Food is amazing. Not your average curry...this is exceptional.

very authentic, aromatic and jam packed full of flavour. 10/10. We will be back again. Only downside is this place is so good it’s difficult to get a table! So book if you don’t want to be disappointed.

This place is amazing - looks nothing from the outside but the food was delicious and the service was great too. It’s a BYO restaurant so the bill was really reasonable, just be aware that due to their popularity they are very strict on how long you can stay, we were caught out as it wasn’t mentioned at the time of booking. Will definitely return.

Amazing little place. Food was incredible - the deep fried cauliflower in sauce was probably the best thing I have ever eaten. Everything was packed full of flavour and the lady serving us went above and beyond. When an item was missed off the order she got it cooked to takeaway and took it off the bill completely! Only complaint is that it is quite a small and stuffy place which isn’t nice paired with hot indian food, but better than going to a low quality big chain restaurant. Will definitely come back. Highly recommend

This is a small restaurant but oh my the food!! Most flavor filled biryani I've EVER had, I couldn't leave a bite behind, we are so deprived in Oxford! Also the lamb chettinad.. flakey (mutton) yes flakey! And the sauce! Tried to kidnap the chef... this is 5* all the way. No liquor licence, so bring your own! The young women running the front was super considerate and checked after every dish served that we were happy, definitely coming back in the future!

The food is way too sweet and bits of the lamb were with gristle and not soft. Sorry but we are disappointed.

MADRASI'S Taste of South India serves incredibly tasty dishes with vibrant spices and warm service.

Amazing food here, and a huge selection of menu items. Especially recommend the onion bhajis and the lamb chattinadu, though the masala dosa was really tasty too. Friendly service, and they allowed us to BYOB at no extra charge, so grab a cold Cobra at the off licence across the street and tuck in. Highly recommend!

Very good food and cheap for Brighton. Highly recommended. The restaurant is a bit small, but we didn't let that bother us.

Bit small restaurant , but good food

Absolutely mind-blowing dosas - as a Tamilian born and bred in Indian, I can vouch that this place has the most authentic dosas, chutneys and sambar I have ever had outside of India. We also ordered a lamb starter, which was very nice, but the masala dosa and ghee roast dosas stole the show hands down. The dosa portion sizes were massive and the pricing is extremely reasonable - service is wonderfully warm and friendly too. Note that it's BYO alcohol only, and we hadn't brought any of our own alcohol, but honestly we were just as happy with the salted lassis. Highly recommended overall, and we'll definitely be back.

I've eaten A LOT of dosas in my time, Madradsi's was so crispy and delicious. The staff in there were so friendly and helpful too. 😊

They deserve 500stars✨ the most authentic Indian food I’ve ever had in the UK! Love their biryani… properly spicy as it should be🤤 and their lamb is just so moist, juicy and tender that it was still good even after I microwaved some leftovers next day! And their DOSA?🥹 oh my… crunchy, crispy, layers of flavor… and the staff was so friendly and helpful!! Definitely recommend it👍🏻❤️

The food here is great - very authentically South Indian, but you can get North Indian dishes too. The Chicken 65 was the best I've tasted (I live in Singapore where there is a large South Indian population and an abundance of South Indian Restaurants, so I've had a few!). I had a decent Kothu Paratha. Our party also had good Dosa's - a bit greasy, but very flavourful. Mango lassi was OK - definitely had better. It's BYO, and reasonably priced. And very popular, so definitely check it out.

Lovely food , but disappointed that it was delivered almost an hour past the latest delivery time that it was supposed to be and was missing an item . Tried calling the number restaurant provided 3 times to chase the curry and then the missing item with no success !

I have wanted to try Madrasi for a while and tonight was the night: we got the last table so we’re lucky. Not a bad sign to be full on a Wednesday. We had really great authentic South Indian curry - I had chicken kadai, my son had chettinadu. Good prices too. It was BYOB so quite a cheap (and excellent) dinner out. Christina gave us great service too. Would thoroughly recommend.

I was totally disappointed after having a dinner at Madrasi resto today. We ordered chicken biriyani and egg noodles. Chicken biriyani was really salty (even double checked with my husband to see whether he feels the same) and when we raised our issue the staff said, for all of them in the kitchen that salt level was okay which makes us feel like we were lying about their food. Months back, the time when they opened the resto,I had very good experience with the service. Now I didn't feel the same way. The painful thing was they don't even offer water unless we ask for.

The best dosa I’ve had in Brighton to date. Delicious food all round. Dips were top notch and it’s bring your own drink too. Food is filling, cheap and the great quality. Exactly the kind of place I love to eat at. Can’t recommend it enough.

Great little find in Hove. Authentic South Indian food around here. We’ve been there twice now and not been disappointed. The guys there really helpful and kind. Very attentive to all their customers and pickups too. Expect a tiny eatery, slightly on higher end of price but that’s expected in this part of England. Top notch food.

Food's always lovely when eating in but got a delivery and one of the dishes was NOT good. Tasteless gloop - I suspect it was a mass produced thing. Not what I expected or paid for.

So great! Decided on this place last minute. We were trying to get a last dose of Indian food on our way out of town. We hit up Indian Summer, and while it was fine if you’re looking for a more UK-ified hipster take, it really wasn’t the authentic Indian spot. This place is small, run by Indians, and Indian customers. In other words, it’s legit. Get the Gobi Manchurian (cauliflower) and Chili Paneer appetizers for sure. The curries were great, and the bread (get the Parota) was like none I’ve had before. So good and soft and flakey in a way. Great people and staff and would definitely be back.

Wow! Amazing fresh food. Lovely friendly team and wow, the food. The Dosa was out of this world. Like a giant crispy pancake with fresh chicken curry in it and tasty home made dips. Yum. Our new favourite. Certain. Hove establishments have gone well moody. Can see why!

We have only had take away delivered from here but both times it has been truly delicious. Really fresh and skillfully prepared dishes. A new family favourite.

Wow! What a gem!! I've got fed up of eating Bengali food in Indian restaurants..it all tastes the same to me, so wanted the eat something different! I was not disappointed! It's a very small place so do book in advance. The young lady there was beautiful inside out! She was so attentive and made us feel very welcome. Sadly I had eaten so much (couldn't help it.. everything was just SO yum,!) And I couldn't finish my dosa! I SHALL be returning there to have a full dosa! I'm so pleased we found this place!

The lady there was very helpful and accommodating, and managed to fit a last minute booking for up to 8 people (6 of us managed to make it). Very good service, and the food was thoroughly enjoyed by all of us! Highly recommend:)

Can’t believe we have an authentic South Indian restaurant in Hove! The food was delicious. I’ve had masala dosa’s in South India and these are on a par! Lovely service & very fresh food. Will be going regularly, that’s for sure!
