Taste Of India in Brighton and Hove

I rarely give 10/10 because perfect is unrealistic, but Madrasi hits top marks! The food is authentic, delicious, great value and better than anything I've tasted outside of Southern India. The staff are professional, friendly and efficient. I will definitely return. Fantastic food!

Hove's best kept secret!!!! What an amazing restaurant serving authentic South Indian food. Service with a smile, brilliant atmosphere - what more could you ask for. I had veggie samosa's and chicken kothu which were both absolutely lovely. I lived in Sri Lanka for 6 months last year and I actually think the kothu I had at Madrasi's is better than any I had in Sri Lanka - and I had it just about every day. Also, it's BYO so you can save some money by nipping into Tesco's before for some wine. I can't wait to go back again - the dosa's look amazing - as did everything else I saw coming out of the kitchen.

I’d been recommended this restaurant by a friend and I’m so glad he told me about it. We booked a table for 10 guys at 8:30 so were their last booking for the night. The food was amazing, and the portion sizes were generous. The staff were warm and extremely welcoming. We were the last to leave the place yet at no point did we feel hurried or rushed. When the bill arrived, we were all amazed at how reasonable it was. All in all, the place was perfect for a group of mates to get together and have a great meal with fantastic service. Thanks Madrasi’s, we’ll see you again really soon!

I came with my friends on New Year’s Eve. It was so great that I brought my family back a few weeks later. Lovely food! Highly recommended!

We are vegetarian and there is a great range of delicious vege food. Service was good and our waiter was really helpful. We will be back and now have food our new takeaway place!

I had the saag lamb curry (takeaway) yesterday. The colour was uninviting but the meat was inedible - very little and mainly fat and grisle. Being a South Indian restaurant (veggie focused) I now realise I should have avoided any meat options.

This small place in Hove is an authentic gem! The place is cosy and familiar and everyone is friendly and the food is just beyond delicious with very fair prices. Can only recommend! The Gobi Manchurian is amazing, so are the dosas and the currys. Must try!

Took a friend here for a birthday meal. Best Indian food I've ever eaten. Absolutely delicious and the lady who served us was really friendly and helpful. Edit - Since eating in the restaurant I've had two takeaways delivered. Truly out of this world. Maybe the tastiest food I've ever eaten.

Fabulous food and flavours cooked to order. The Lamb Chettinadu was outstanding, as was the Chicken Kadhi(?). Plentiful portions. Really friendly people. Very busy, book!!! Small place, cafe like ambience.

It is the first time we have ordered anything from Madrasi’s and they came highly recommended. But we were really disappointed, I ordered tandoori lamb chops - they came totally frizzled with very little meat on them - I was lucky if I had a couple of mouthfuls. We also ordered Gobi 65 - you wouldn’t know it was cauliflower! The sauce of the butter chicken masala was quite nice but there wasn’t much chicken. We live very near the restaurant so we’re very disappointed that they charged £1.99 delivery. I’m sure their Dosa is probably really good but didn’t try it last night. Will give it another try.

Tasty South Indian food is available. One of the beat South Indian restaurants in the area. Biriyani is so amazing.

I ordered a takeaway tonight for the first time from here. I didn’t like it at all. A biryani normally comes with a veg curry which this one didn’t. I don’t know if I’m just used to less authentic food but the flavour was different to what I’d had elsewhere and I didn’t enjoy it and left most of it. Staff were polite and delivery was super quick.

First visit to this gem of an Indian restaurant. The food was delicious with the authentic taste of southern India. Portions are generous and reasonably priced. Staff were lovely, we will definitely be eating here again.

Always top quality authentic Indian food. I have visited the restaurant so I know how unsurprisingly busy they are. It's worth waiting more than 20 minutes for your delivery.

We dined here, and had a great time and even greater food. I ordered a chicken vindaloo, it was oozing with flavour. It was a party in my mouth.The mango lassi was so delicious. Simply Brighton's best curry!!!! The staff made the overall experience amazing. 5 stars from us!

Ordered the thick jalfrezi sauce, but it was thin. Ordered the garlic naan, but the food arrived and it wasn’t in. Ordered the Manchurian starter, this was a win. Papadums were smashed, packaging too thin. Called about missing bread, but couldn’t hear above the din. Bread arrived, after meal eaten, raising this review, from what it could have been.

Sadly, the most bland south Indian meal I've ever had. Utterly disappointing Two weeks ago I ordered a mid week delivery and it was superb and really authentic, but a Friday take out was utter rubbish. I used to live in South India so I know what is good. I suggest you avoid weekends or they change their weekend chefs

I've been here twice. The food is decent, but the service is horrendous. The small room can get extremely loud when it's full. If you are going there, make sure you don't have any other plans later. I had to ask 4 or 5 times before the lady gave me water, which was right in front of her the whole time. Both times, they bring you your curry first (after 45 mins) and then make you wait 10 mins for the naan while your food gets cold, lol. I don't say it easily, but it's really bad service.

Really late delivery, phone number provided by just eat not answered and restraint doesn’t answer the phone. Food adequate

Take away order. The masala dosa, sambar, and chutneys are the highlight. The naan is soft and delicious, not dry and crispy. The chicken tikka masala is dominated by tomato, and the butter chicken feels like it needs more time to deliver true depth of flavour. The samosas were extremely oily - won’t be doing those again. Overall could do with 50% less oil throughout. BUT we love this place because the meal is always delicious and fulfilling overall despite some minor issues. 8/10

Absolutely love this place, amazing food and staff. Had the dosa and biryani and both were fantastic!

The food was really good, authentic flavours and good portions. We had the chicken masala dosa and the sambar was just like we make it at home. Even the kothu paratha and chicken tikka was delicious. The only thing we didn’t enjoy was the mint sauce they served with the chicken tikka- it was too sweet. Would prefer a mint chutney instead. Madrasi’s restaurant in Hove is definitely recommended!!

The food was nice however the delivery was very delayed (because the restaurant was slow). I would have ordered elsewhere if I knew it would be that long. Maybe don't take all those orders if you're that busy. Probably won't order again.

My favourite place in hove to eat at. Some places struggle to make the take away options taste as good but Madrasi’s manages to make it still taste amazing

My partner and I dined in yesterday and enjoyed the best dosas we've had in Brighton (paneer & lamb masala were both excellent). The service was fantastic and matched the quality of the food. The restaurant is small, so be sure to reserve a table to avoid disappointment as we saw some walk-ins turned away. Can't wait to go back!

I love and miss this place. Went here too often when I lived round the corner. The staff are so friendly. Delicious south Indian food especially the dosas, fish moli and parathas. Can also BYOB. 5 stars!!!!

Loved this place! A friend tipped us off and along we went for a dosa. I’ve spent 4 months in India so have been lucky enough to have plenty of delicious authentic food and this was right up there. They have a wide menu beyond the delicious dosas too which we happily sampled.

Had a couple take aways from here. Food is amazing. Not your average curry...this is exceptional.

This place is amazing - looks nothing from the outside but the food was delicious and the service was great too. It’s a BYO restaurant so the bill was really reasonable, just be aware that due to their popularity they are very strict on how long you can stay, we were caught out as it wasn’t mentioned at the time of booking. Will definitely return.

Really authentic tasting southern Indian food

Amazing little place. Food was incredible - the deep fried cauliflower in sauce was probably the best thing I have ever eaten. Everything was packed full of flavour and the lady serving us went above and beyond. When an item was missed off the order she got it cooked to takeaway and took it off the bill completely! Only complaint is that it is quite a small and stuffy place which isn’t nice paired with hot indian food, but better than going to a low quality big chain restaurant. Will definitely come back. Highly recommend

This is a small restaurant but oh my the food!! Most flavor filled biryani I've EVER had, I couldn't leave a bite behind, we are so deprived in Oxford! Also the lamb chettinad.. flakey (mutton) yes flakey! And the sauce! Tried to kidnap the chef... this is 5* all the way. No liquor licence, so bring your own! The young women running the front was super considerate and checked after every dish served that we were happy, definitely coming back in the future!

The food is way too sweet and bits of the lamb were with gristle and not soft. Sorry but we are disappointed.

MADRASI'S Taste of South India serves incredibly tasty dishes with vibrant spices and warm service.

Amazing food here, and a huge selection of menu items. Especially recommend the onion bhajis and the lamb chattinadu, though the masala dosa was really tasty too. Friendly service, and they allowed us to BYOB at no extra charge, so grab a cold Cobra at the off licence across the street and tuck in. Highly recommend!

Bit small restaurant , but good food

Absolutely mind-blowing dosas - as a Tamilian born and bred in Indian, I can vouch that this place has the most authentic dosas, chutneys and sambar I have ever had outside of India. We also ordered a lamb starter, which was very nice, but the masala dosa and ghee roast dosas stole the show hands down. The dosa portion sizes were massive and the pricing is extremely reasonable - service is wonderfully warm and friendly too. Note that it's BYO alcohol only, and we hadn't brought any of our own alcohol, but honestly we were just as happy with the salted lassis. Highly recommended overall, and we'll definitely be back.

They deserve 500stars✨ the most authentic Indian food I’ve ever had in the UK! Love their biryani… properly spicy as it should be🤤 and their lamb is just so moist, juicy and tender that it was still good even after I microwaved some leftovers next day! And their DOSA?🥹 oh my… crunchy, crispy, layers of flavor… and the staff was so friendly and helpful!! Definitely recommend it👍🏻❤️

The food here is great - very authentically South Indian, but you can get North Indian dishes too. The Chicken 65 was the best I've tasted (I live in Singapore where there is a large South Indian population and an abundance of South Indian Restaurants, so I've had a few!). I had a decent Kothu Paratha. Our party also had good Dosa's - a bit greasy, but very flavourful. Mango lassi was OK - definitely had better. It's BYO, and reasonably priced. And very popular, so definitely check it out.

Lovely food , but disappointed that it was delivered almost an hour past the latest delivery time that it was supposed to be and was missing an item . Tried calling the number restaurant provided 3 times to chase the curry and then the missing item with no success !
