My Order 1 x Onion baji £4.25 1 x Chicken Tikka Massala £10.50 1 x Aloo Gobi £4.50 1 x Vegtable Rice £4.15 1 x Bindi Bhaji £4.50 Total £27.90 I have used this restaurant and takeaway many times but 16 October 2024 will be the last time. You might think that Garlic is part of Indian food but this is the first time this restaurant has put or used it in any of the dishes that I have chosen in the last 7 years. To me, Garlic spoils the taste of food and takes over any Authentic Tastes it ends up tasting of Garlic. The size of the onion bargees (see snap) is just a bit bigger than a ping-pong ball, there are onions for goodness sake and very little price increase in a net full of onions over the last 3 years, what the heck? Dont say that the labour costs are much higher than 2 years ago, it's an onion Barge They have also started to use a ready-made red sauce, certainly NOT an original tasting Tandori-made sauce that they boost as part of their advertising. This has lost the authentic Indian-tasting food I once enjoyed from here and in my opinion the sauce is an insult to traditional Indian cooking and food. Their foil trays are now a lot smaller than say 18 months ago. When once a tray was suitable for 1 1/2 to 2 persons is now only good for 1 person. I get the feeling that since it's the only Indian Restaurant in the HOLT area they can cook and deliver food that is not as good as it once was including the smaller food trays. There was nothing Authentic about the food I had ordered. Authentic Indian food is one of the best-tasting types of food available but this was and is an insult to Indian food. An extremely disappointing Indian Takeaway in taste and size of portions from once a delightful tasting and smelling Indian food from this, restaurant/takeaway. In my opinion, they need to rethink what. Traditional Indian Tasting Food means.

Just had a takeaway was ready for collection on time … have to say one of the better Indian takeaways we have had .. my wife thought the tarka Dahl could have had more spice … but overall 👍🏻

Very enjoyable meal. Every dish tasted different and all were very good. Visiting on holiday or we will be back again! Waiters very attentive and my small red wine looked suspiciously like my previous large glass 😁

Whoever is creating in the kitchen needs to learn to use some spices . Quite the most tasteless meal my wife and I have eaten in a very long time. If you like bland food then this is the one for you Save your money…..

This is a Bangladesh restaurant not Indian. Food is tastes like traditional desi food like oily and artificial colour used.

Great little place. Excellent food. Wise to book as a few people turned up looking for a table (as did we) and they had to come back later. We were lucky to get fitted in. Obviously very popular. Good service too. Very reasonable prices. Check it out. We recommend it if you’re visiting Holt.

The seating was worn away and generally lacked style really needs to be repaired. We’re never coming here ever again so so so disappointed. We also got served warm coke .

We came here last year (not being at all local) and found it decidedly average. An evening meal on a Sunday and the restaurant was ominously dead (other than 3 takeaway customers, we didn't see anyone else) during our 90 minute sitting. We ordered the Chicken Shashlik Bhuna and Garlic Chicken main courses with garlic naan. This was preceded by lamb samosas, seekh kebabs, onion bhajis and garlic mushroom puri. Again I found the samosas oily and mushy inside and lacking in filling, but the rest of the food was good. The main courses were much better this time around (different dishes to be fair) although there's not a massive amount of meat in the dishes. Good overall, but not outstanding.

Always a treat to visit when we’re in Holt. A warm welcome and great food. All the usual and some delicious specialities. We’ve been using this restaurant for over 20 years and have a,ways had good service and excellent food.

The fact that the decor is tired and the tables are worn doesn’t matter to us when the food,service and price is as good as it gets especially in a posh little town like Holt. Yes it’s not the usual Boutique high end costly typical Holt place but hell yeah it delivers so much more. Loved it from start to finish.

Purchased a take away for 4 people to find a substantial dish missing. Returned to the restaurant to complain only to find another customer complaining of the same thing. Naughty,

Possibly it was because it was New Year’s Eve but this was probably the worst Indian takeaway I have ever had. No taste, a tablespoon of sauce for all 3 of the dishes ordered. If this is what other reviewers like then that’s fine for them but I couldn’t give it any more than a rating of 1, so that others are not misled.

Beautiful food, beautiful town, great service and great price. Interior decor a little dated however will return again as the food was amazing.

As the wifelette was working on Christmas Day we got a takeaway this year. Picked up the evening before and left to mature over night we had curry, bhajis, naans and other bits. It's an excellent restaurant and worth the 30 mins drive. Staff are always friendly and they even gave me a free takeaway menu for my future reference. It got pride of place on the mantelpiece next to the card from our neighbours William and Kate.

As part of our annual November visit to Holt we try and visit Taste of India and having missed a visit last year due to lockdown we went for our usual evening meal and weren't disappointed. The meal, service and atmosphere were all excellent. We knew what we wanted to order before going in and a couple sat near us were surprised how quickly we made our choices of everything. We explained it was our usual annual visit and we had enjoyed our meal in the past and again on this occasion we enjoyed everything about the evening.

We have been here several times and with varying degrees of satisfaction. Our more recent visits have been very good. The staff are attentive and helpful, especially in respect of my wife's requirement for gluten-free food. The ambience is pleasant and, contrary to some other reviews, we did not find the seating too cramped. Prices are reasonable and food quality excellent. Waiting times for service were just right....neither too fast nor too slow.Parking in the town is free after 6pm in the public car parks, so travel is easy and the town centre car park is only two minutes' walk away.If we have to make one criticism, it is that gluten-free desserts are sadly lacking and the sweet menu is rather generic to many restaurants, rather than individual or "home-made".Largely owing to the covid pandemic, patronage was sparse and this was sad to see. We felt perfectly safe in the environment and would thoroughly recommend this place. We will be back.

I’ve been enjoying Indian food for over 40 years and this is right up there with the best meals I’ve ever had. I had the paneer tikka with special rice with a portion of Balti sauce. My partner had Dahl samba and aloo gobi and really enjoyed her Chilean red too. Our neighbours at the next table were also waxing lyrical about their meal. Great service too. Our first visit, will definitely return when we next visit Norfolk again.

Food didnt turn up and they lied about having called me. No missed calls. Another time I actually got my food, the curry was watery and the chicken had a very long and tangled black hair in it. Binned the chicken. Bad place, they dont care.

Been here a couple of times, no issues with the food or service but I found it to be too cramped, tables too close together, makes it difficult to get up to go to the loo without encroachment on your neighbours table, seats could do with updating too.

Possibly the worst meal I’ve ever had. Onion Bhaji’s - cold and chewy. Chicken Chat. Tasteless. Chicken madras- sauce from a bottle? No spices or Indian tastes to any of it. Restaurant a bit like a GP’s waiting room with many people coming in and out for takeaways. Front door continually opening and closing. Lights to the restaurant failing. Smoke alarm going off. A true comedy experience and not in a good way. This really is one to avoid.

We popped into this restaurant and were so pleased that we did! The food here is delicately flavoured… but very tasty. Ambience is lovely… quiet music enhancing our dinner, but what stands out is the service: the young men serving the food were helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. A very pleasant evening.

I'd like to start by saying the food was superb here but as the the staff....When we booked we were called back to say come at 8 as they were busy, got to the restaurant and only 2 tables with people, both left so just us! People came in for a takeaway as we were being served our rice and the waiter left to sort a mix up leaving us with just rice! Came back a while later with the rest, once finished we were just left to sit there, no asking if we needed anything else so we left. On arrival there was no greeting, no smile no customer service whatsoever. Probably won't return sadly.

After an unusually dodgy take out in July, last two have been superb. Recommend veg korma Ann sag paneer!

Shockingly bad experience full stop.The food was bland.Our seats were literally falling apart.The worst part though was the service. The two waiters were dismissive and rude throughout the meal with not even a thank you after we’d paid the bill.Will 100% never be returning.

I ordered online for a meal to be collected for three people. I fully understand that a Saturday night when Norfolk is full of people who are searching for a food source is going to put a business under pressure, but the front of house had fallen into the trap of trying to fill every table, and admit walk-in takeaway orders at the same time as trying to fulfill pre-booked orders. It was plain that the kitchen was struggling, and my order was missing items when we unpacked it having travelled home 10 miles. The food we had was of a good standard, but I am hacked off at being charged for a main course that I did not get. Given the switching round of order bags that was going on, I suspect someone else had a surprise addition to their order.

Really lovely meal, the food was great and good value for money. But it did cost £4.45 for a soda and lime, which was a shock

Had a takeaway and discovered chicken was raw. Hoping I'm not ill tomorrow. Not acceptable standards. Certainly won't be using this restaurant again.

Easy to book, used FB messenger to enquire beforehand about Vegan and Gluten Free menu.Booked via same app. Good seating layout, table spaced well apart due to covid requirements. Waiter was hospitable and friendly, and this was even more notable as he was the only member of staff. (When I asked, another employee had not come in.) So he had to serve drinks, meals and give out take away collections to other customers. ALL with a happy smile (we assume under the face mask!) Anyway....food was quick to arrive and was so good! Throughly enjoyed the meal. Definitely recommend!

Staying in Blackney we really fancied a take away. Whilst in Holt we looked up on Google and found this Reataurant. Whilst looking in window at menu guy came out and asked if he could help. Told us that didnt deliver but time to call to book for collection. Food all looked great so we booked.All was excellent staff conforming to guidelines and we happy to wait outside despite being offered a seat at bar. Food was excellent flavour some and well packed.Definitely a return trip when we staying in Blackney.

This is the first time i have written a review having not actually managed to eat in a restaurant, however I feel this may help those who are considering doing so.My wife and I are staying in Holt, and decided to try to eat in this restaurant. We did not have a booking, and therefore politely asked whether they had room for a table for two.The response from the waiter was probably the rudest we have ever received. He said - and I quote - "if you haven't got a booking you're not coming in". Frankly if he had politely told us that they were full, that would have been fine, however the rudeness of his response means that we would never consider eating here - and if this is how he treats his customers, I would strongly advise everyone to avoid this place.We also noted that the guy behind the bar was not wearing a mask properly as required by current legislation.

Ordered a take away from taste of India on a wet and windy evening. We had had a power cut and main road to Holt was closed but it was worth it. A wide menu to choose from, great vegetarian options. Food was tasty and fresh. Portion size good. Great value for money. Good COVID measures in place (with exception of requesting cash payment, would have preferred contactless)

Went on busy Wednesday, thought of might get disappoint butttttt was not somehow they managed perfectionally & never had such an amazing starter called pura mangsho before....highly recommend

Truly dreadful, but reading the other reviews we must have been VERY unlucky. Why add sugar to savoury dishes? Nothing tasted like Indian food as I know it. Kept waiting for a long time. Will not be going back.

Ordered a takeaway and couldn’t really fault it. Everything was nicely cooked although was disappointed with the mushroom puri, was expecting it to be like the prawn variety but it was dry, without any sauce. The patia was really tasty, sweet but spicy.

We have just had the most amazing food it was delicious. The onion Bajis were the best I have had In a long time. Great vegetable curry and a variety of mains . It was extremely busy with a lot of take out collections, there only appeared be two members of staff plus the chef , jeez they worked hard!! Thank you so much for a fun filled evening.

We live locally, and have used this restaurant many times...both for table service and as a takeaway. This evening, we ordered a takeaway which we were told would be 50 minutes, as they were busy. Not a problem. I arrived on time, paid, and was asked to wait outside. Approximately 30 minutes later, I was told that my Chicken tikka would be ready in a couple of minutes. Three minutes or so later, our meal was delivered to us. We drove home, no more than 5 minutes. Our meal was cold......very disappointed!! We’ve had much better from here. Saying that they were very busy is all well and good.....but the restaurant was less than half full!! You should not take the money if you can’t provide the service. Won’t be back!

During this Covid lockdown, eating out has been non existent but the service offered by Taste of India has been superb. Order by phone have a time slot to collect. No waiting, food hot and tasty. No contact with staff with safe distancing measures in place. Pay contactless. Perfect and very much appreciate.

Food excellent and staff very attentive. Thoroughly enjoyed ourfirst visit. Hoping to go again soon.

Was spending weekend in Holt and decided to eat in this restaurant. Had take away a few times when on holiday always good. The service was so attentive and polite. The food came quickly , but not too quickly that you feet rushed. The food was superb ,though probably I ordered too much. Husband said best Indian he ever had and must admit it was very tasty . Will go back when in Norfolk again

We waited for a table at this very busy restaurant. We were eventually seated after waiting outside and the service was shockingly slow . We waited for anHour and 15 minutes from when we ordered our meal to when it eventually turned up. Food was fine but they clearly can’t cope with handling the service . It’s not even a large restaurant but they are trying to cater for take aways and do not have enough organized staff . Won’t be going back . Worth taking a cab to another town for an Indian rather than wasting your time here . It’s a shame as it’s a nice looking place .

Have been using taste of India for years but following a house move have used other Indian takeaways for convenience.Head heard about the bad press that Taste of India had received earlier in the year and how they’d turned it around.Was in Holt tonight and thought we’d give it a go for old times sake, I am SO pleased we did as the food was first class!I suspect that they may have changed some of their recipes as the Chicken Tikka Masala I had was a lot less artificially red than it used to be, and had a different combination of spices, in a great way. The chicken was succulent and well cooked, clearly marinated well before cooking and very well cooked it was. My wife had the same and we had both fallen back in love with this old favourite!Well done Taste of India, we will be back very very soon!

The food and the service from Mabs and his team is always superb, it never disappoints. A small place though so book to avoid disappointment

My wife and i were staying nearby in a cottage for a week and a lunch time curry had been on my bucket list for a while. Very quiet on Saturday lunch but very friendly staff and excellent food. Can recommend the garlic chilli chicken!. Only reason not giving 5 stars is that the tandoori oven was not hot enough to do nan breads, but it was lunch time and the chapatis were very good instead, would go again without hesitation.

Turned up last minute with our 5yr old and they got us a table and sorted us out. Great food. Definitely go back.

Popped in for a midweek meal, the food was ok but I had ordered a ‘fairly hot’ dish which turned out to be ferociously hot, it was brought to our table on a sizzling dish and the fumes that came from it made the whole restaurant cough and splutter, when I told the waiter he just laughed and said sorry, the curry was tasty but almost blew my head off, I’ve had haryali before and it has never been anything like as hot, bit disappointing.

Called in on the spec on very wet Thursday night last week and were the only diners in other than a few takeaway customer's during the course of our visit.Excellent food and service,lovely surroundings would highly recommend this place.Has to be one of the nicest Indian meals we've had out of our own area which is the curry capital of the north.

The food was of a high standard, very tasty, and the lamb was nicely cooked & moist but not overdone. The menu catered for a variety of chilli heat requirements which nicely met the expectations of all 4 diners, if I were eating in the North Norfolk area again I would definitely come back

Have ordered a couple of times from the Taste of India in holt and have been pleased every time. Service is occasionally slow so I would call well in advance and order. I would say food is a 3/5 nothing special but good. Orders have always been correct. I would recommend if the only local possibility but would also encourage people to try elsewhere if possible.

Been here regularly as I find the food excellent the lamb Ceylon is amazing , keep up the great standards mabs always a pleasure

Ordered a takeaway. The food was ok. When I ordered they told me it was an hour wait, so I turned up on the hour and then told it would be 10 mins , then another 10 then at last an hour and a half after ordering hey presto some average Indian food. I complained but wouldn't give me a discount only a drink. Whilst waiting, I would say the service of the customers who were in the restaurant was slow as well. Tip for the management, on the busiest night of the week (Sat) employ more kitchen staff/waiters!

Having had a a couple of lovely takeaways from here previously my husband and I decided to go back. We actually went back twice. Each time my husband had the jalfrezi and I had dansak. Both were hot, spicy and tasty. We both enjoyed our meals very much and would return. I would certainly recommend it.

Menu is usual Indian fare but staff are on hand and happy to guide and suggest choices. Often full even on weekdays so try and get in early doors to guarantee a table. Food has never disappointed.

Weekend away and chanced this place, it was awesome. Mixed meat starter for two, followed by two Shashlick Bhuna’s (just make sure they add the green chillis)! Two clean plates and very good 👍🏼

We had a really lovely dinner here. The staff (2 young men) were so friendly and welcoming. The curries, rice and Nann bread were all delicious! We are quite fussy foodies who love very hot food! One of the lads even gave us some free hot chilli powder in a box to take home when we told him we struggle to buy extra hot spice for our home cooked food. Everything was top rate and we had no complaints. Well done to the staff, thank you.

Everything about the meal was first rate, from the starters to the main. The staff were very pleasant and accommodating, as we had a disabled friend with us, and nothing was too much trouble, would certainly recommend.

The Taste of India is a Joke. This place was taken over in 2016, we didn't realise. We went for a take away. The food quite simply put, is diabolical. If you imagine putting lumps of meat into a sauce from a jar, heating it up, that would be the best this place does, as far as cooking! Reheating manufactured sauces and chucking in the meat of your choice. Don’t expect any veg either. We live in the Midlands where authentic real Indian cuisine can be found everywhere. If all you aspire to is tasteless Indian cuisine, then go to the Holt supermarket, pick up a jar of Indian style sauce chuck in your chicken, and bobs your uncle, you have just created a better Indian meal for yourself than you can get from this CRAP Indian takeaway. We had revolting chicken tikka, revolting chicken korma, and revolting mushroom pilau. The 2 chicken dishes came in one small and one medium size plastic dishes? They should have been in the same large size? What a pity there are so many good reviews for the last owners, only to have this crap lot taking the glory for themselves! Do not waste your money. Oh and I would have given it minus Zero points, if there was an option!!!

We went midweek, the restaurant was two thirds full, good decor, nice and clean and a good atmosphere. The service was good, friendly but not over attentive. All of the food we has was tasty, the portions were big, and the beer is on draught. We would recommend this restaurant if you are looking for Indian food in Holt

Been a number of times now and never disappointed. Food quality is consistently good and there are a number if different and innovative dishes out of the ordinary. Nice people, attentive and responsive service and good value. Worth a visit.

We had the nicest takeaway meal from here this week, whilst visiting Holt. The service was fantastic and the Korma is the best one my husband has ever had.

After a busy week we like to stay home on a Saturday evening and maybe get a takeaway which is always available from this once very popular restaurant. Nowadays customers seem quite thin on the ground and I'm beginning to understand why, my daughter had vegetarian korma which she said was ok, my wife's chicken tikka was not very nice and my king prawn rogan josh curry was quite simply awful, four or five prawns of very dubious quality drowning in a sea of saffron ghee which had leaked out over everything by the time I had arrived home and the same applied to the sag aloo, with food like this being served it's little wonder the punters have deserted this place. Let me say the restaurant itself is clean and smart and the staff are well dressed and friendly, but that's not much use if the chef is letting them down. Holt has a very discerning clientele, if you are good you will be well supported, if you are as bad as this, I for one won't be returning

Called in on off chance and they had a table free. Nice tasty dishes. Service was good. Would definitely return if I visit Holt again.

So had heard a few things about the restaurant,some good some bad so went for a meal to see and very glad we did,went early evening on a Friday and was already fairly busy staff very good not over hassling but there if you needed them, got drinks and poppadoms and looked at menu good usual selections of most Indians I have ever been to had starter of tandoori chicken and lamb tikka, mains sag aloo lamb balti,butter chicken onian bargi mushroomrice man breads all in it was all cooked beautifully and all tasted very good and different also had a bottle of wine as well as cobra beer.very pleased we went and will defiantly go again if like us you have heard things, do yourself a favour and go you won't regret it.

The food not only tasted good but also the presentation was exceptional. The pocket pinch is also not very much. Staff is very polite and prompt. A must visit for everyone looking for tasty Indian food.

Called in for a curry on a Wednesday night whilst staying in Holt.

My wife and I visited for dinner. We were slightly apprehensive as, the last time we came, the service was decidedly chaotic. However, this time, things were a lot better organised.

We enjoyed a superb meal at this modern Indian restaurant in the heart of this picturesque village. the food was delicious, the service very good, the price very fair, and we were also lucky enough to sit next to two very friendly and informative local couples ,

Had a cheeky mid week meal out on a Wednesday. First sit in meal at taste of India, not a bad job at all. Food was good and prices were standard to most Indian restaurants. It is a small place so when there is a lot of people in there you know it, however would recommend for a nice evening out. Definitely book ahead otherwise if you get the wrong night it will end up being a takeaway. Only small thing was both waitresses looked like they had sucked a lemon all night but hey maybe it was just a busy night!

Ordered a small takeaway for two people, they said it would be an hour, in the end it took 1h30mins, utter chaos with takeaway people stood around waiting half an hour when they had said an hour over the phone.

After some dodgy reviews I still ordered a take away as it was Hobson’s choice in Holt.

Just collected a takeaway for 3 people , it was absolutely delicious, ready on collection time, piping hot and tasted so nice. Absolute compliments you won’t be disappointed if you eat here.

We had been occasional customers over a few years, usually getting a takeaway - and they were average to ok.

For our first take away my husband had onions bhajis followed by chicken jalfrieze. I had prawn dansak and we shared a garlic rice. Every part of the meal was delicious. The following week we had a lunch time take away. We called in to make the order and the service did appear a little strange. A lady folding serviettes had to go and get a man from the back who appeared to be eating his own lunch. They seemed a little surprised anyone had gone into the restaurant. We had onion bhajis and chicken jalfrieze and garlic rice between us. Again the curry was excellent with big pieces of chicken although my husband said the bhajis weren’t quiet as nice. I would certainly recommend this restaurant for delicious food.

Went there as there is only one indian in Holt. Seemed ok when we walked in. Mediocre decor. As for the staff. Lol they look and talk and then look and smirk. Paranoia you say. Not at all. There are upon closer inspection, unkempt. Squeaky floor boards, warm drinks. Not good. And had I known they recently scored a ZERO rating for hygiene???. I would have never ventured in there. As for the food= it smells good. Looks ok, tastes watery. We had 3 different mains and 2 starters. 2 of the starters were good, but maybe they were microwave from a supermarket. Only joking. Maybe. And that's all I've got day in this. My personal view and my wife's. That's all. No pictures as not worth it

We've visited the Taste of India numerous times on our visits to Norfolk. The food has always been perfectly prepared, the service first class, and the meal was excellent value for money. Would thoroughly recommend a meal here.

I've been eating their (takeaway mainly) meals for years and they are consistently delicious every time. I have never had a bad meal from here. Friendly service and never too long to wait for the food. I look forward to the next time!

To celebrate my birthday we ordered a take away from this restaurant. The food was either tasteless or over spiced or totally unrecognisable based on the description in the menu. Avoid!

I have used this 'Indian' restaurant several times since moving to the area, mainly takeaway. On each occassion it has been a satisfactory meal nothing outstanding just your average Indian.

We always come to the Taste of India when we're staying in Holt. Brilliant service and food every time. We've also always found that the food is equally as good if you get a takeaway.

We were in Holt for a long weekend and had our usual curry craving. On this particular Saturday evening the restaurant was extremely busy. Every table taken and fifteen takeaway orders sitting on the bar. This did mean that our order was not ready until...

Sunday eating out can sometimes be difficult when visiting an unfamiliar area unless you want a traditional Sunday Dinner. We chose an Indian restaurant and could not have chosen better. The menu was extensive, the food was delicious and the portions were plentiful. The restaurant decor was very pleasant, the staff were efficient and we would definitely revisit when next in the area. . FYI no dedicated parking but public parking nearby in Albert Street.

We had a take away from here the other night. previously we have always eaten in. it was for three of us, two of us thought there dishes were excellent and one that ther's was ordinary. It is the only Indian nearby and you will absolutely not be disappointed.

Food good - not marinated for long enough though. Portions are good - what spoilt it was a family with two children that had a iPhone programme playing at the table with loud volume on. So loud it disturbed and distracted us and the table next to us. My husband asked them politely to turn the volume down which wasn't received amicably and the music stayed at the same volume. I would ask that the restaurant to police this kind of behaviour as it would stop me from going again as they did nothing and made me very anxious and spoilt what should have been an enjoyable and much needed relaxing night out.

We ordered a takeaway from here recently, having had lots of nice takeaways in the past, but this time it was so disappointing. The onion bhajis were hard, the poppadoms were spongey, the bhuna curry was bland. We will not be ordering a takeaway from here again.

This used to be a great restaurant. I think to chef must have left. The chicken was dry and the service was terrible.

An excellent indian restaurant. We are vegatarians and were pleased to see that many of the curries on offer came with a choice of vegetable or paneer options. The sharing veggie starter was huge and very good.
