One of the worst experience ever As a Indian this was one of the most worst and oily food .The staff behaviour was very bad and they did not accept card payment

Long waits, coupled with rude, and inattentive staff made our experience surprisingly inconvenient and unenjoyable. I'm pretty easy going, so I don't normally leave reviews. This one is deserved. If you choose to dine here, make sure you can afford a long wait time and bring cash to avoid further delays

You are only here because nothing else was open at this time. I know, and sympathise. Manage your expectations and you'll be fine: Just keep them as low as it gets. The food is mediocre, the atmosphere is mieh, and the waiters are very angry at you -why? (Note: One was nice. Poor fellow.) Oh, and they will try to have you pay in cash. Make it clear to them that you will only pay by card, and -oh magic- the card reader will start working again. Have fun.

Visité THE Taste of India un miércoles por la noche, había reservado con antelación, ya que los restaurantes en Portree se ponen muy ocupados - no tiene que haber molestado, el lugar estaba casi desierto! La bienvenida es tibia y nos sentamos en una mesa para 2 en el centro de la habitación. Decir que el personal era gruñón es una eufemismo. Nos las arreglamos para que uno se comprometiera con nosotros y hicimos nuestro pedido. En el lado bueno, la comida era buena, otros huéspedes llegaron y también se colocaron en el centro de la habitación. Durante la comida, como una escena del programa de televisión Porridge de Ronnie Barker, los guardianes / personal seguían caminando arriba y abajo. No había ambiente aparte de Ed Sheeran reproduciendo por los altavoces, entonces comenzaron a reproducirse videos fuertes desde atrás de nosotros y resultó ser el propietario viendo la televisión en su teléfono, tuvimos que pedirle que lo apagara. A la salida, nos solicitaron que pagar en efectivo, aunque había una máquina de tarjetas en el mostrador, nos negamos, para molestia del propietario y el personal, bien dejar a su imaginación en cuanto a por qué querían dinero en efectivo. Nosotros no volvimos y lo sugerimos si usted está allí de vacaciones. Tenía la sensación de que se cerraría pronto.

Otro buen alimento aquí en el Taste of India, vivió aquí durante 10 años y ha estado aquí al menos 4 o 5 veces al año y siempre tuvo un alimento de cracking. Una cosa que diré es que las comidas son mucho mejores que las comidas para llevar, Teníamos el entrante de kebab mixto, naga mirchi de cordero, madras de pollo y la parrilla de mezcla de tandoori, todos estaban geniales. Pagado con tarjeta no molesta. El personal era muy agradable también. ¡Lo único malo era que conducía así que no podía disfrutar de una buena botella de Cobra con mi Naga Mirchi!

Decent food, poor ambience, an unwelcoming vibe from staff.

The food was not very good. We got a garlic chilli chicken curry and honestly it was half oil/fat. There was a layer of curry then on top it was literally oil separated. Guys it was crazy. The flavour was not good and my partner had smelly breath after (sorry to him). The chicken tikka was RED. Loved the colour because it was fun but it was alright not good. The portions are big (thanks oil x) but you wouldn't want to eat that much. The peshwari naan was neon inside and bland. The service was cold and uninviting. I am glad we got a takeaway after reading the other reviews. Other than one table of four the restaurant was empty.

The food was fantastic. As a US traveler know that the chicken tikka masala is quite sweet, and very tasty. Don't be afraid to ask their recommendations. The staff was very helpful and friendly.

Do not recommend. Staff is rude and impolite. We arrived the city too late so we could not find any other restaurants. The food is so so as long as there were food for us. There are notices stating that card is accepted for bill more than £20. Our bill is over £70. But when we checked, the rude staff said cash only and asked us to take cash at the atm nearby. There is obviously a card machine at the counter but he insisted cash only. Ends up my partner decide to pay cash (used up all our notes) as it very late already and dont want to watse time on it. If you don’t have cash, JUST SIMPLY DON’T COME. But even if you have cash, go another restaurant to enjoy other food if possible. The restaurant simply doesn’t deserve a try.

We had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. Right from the start, the environment felt unwelcoming. We were asked to decide on our menu before even settling down, and were only offered a few seats near the exit door. To make matters worse, we were told—quite rudely—that unless we opted for a fixed menu, we wouldn’t be allowed to sit. This kind of attitude was especially surprising and disheartening coming from an Indian restaurant, where hospitality and warmth are usually a hallmark. Sadly, the food didn’t make up for the poor service either—it didn’t look appealing and definitely wasn’t worth the high prices they were charging. Overall, the experience was underwhelming and left a bad impression. Not recommended.

Very poor treatment from the restaurant staff. They forced us to order a main course each in a group of four - which is absolutely stupid if people have lower appetites. Obviously they would’ve gotten a decent amount out of us with drinks and appetisers included and given that we were a big group but this treatment made us walk out even before we took a seat. Extremely unprofessional behaviour, looked quite empty and were still unwelcoming.

Not warm and not welcoming would not recommend

Would not recommend the place has a policy that each person must order a main dish otherwise they even wont offer you a chance to sit, didn't feel the warmth of Scotland, wouldn't like fellow Indians to go and feel insulted

Pathetic experience, First of all this is not an Indian restaurant - it is not Taste of India, it should be named as taste of Bangladesh. All the staff members, chef, manager are Bangladeshi. Try avoiding the restaurant. Most of the restaurant was empty when we reached. We were 5 people, we asked for front table and the staff member put us at the back table. When I asked him can he arrange some other table as the back of restaurant was smelling bad. He advised us to go to other restaurant where we didn’t want to go. When I questioned him why are you sending your customers away to some other resturant , loosing your customers- he started arguing with me, raising fingers on me. When I questioned him on his behaviour, he replied you dnt want to eat you can leave. Since being an Indian, I felt he was not Indian. When I questioned his nationality, he replied by saying my partner is from India. I requestioned him about his nationality, he replied he is Bangladeshi. When I said him stop using India’s name and he said you can go complaint to ministry. Who talks like this to customers. I am glad I didn’t eat here. Now when I read all these reviews and pictures shared by customers- I can say this is not all Indian food. The staff is rude to most of his customers. If the owner is reading these reviews he showed change his management and staff members. Try avoiding this restaurant. Eat a sandwich rather than eating in this restaurant.

Amazing curry and extras. Just what we needed after a lovely walk round the isle of Skye. We collected and ate it in the comfort of our own house and can recommend others doing the same.

They have a strict rule of minimum one main course order per person to sit in the restaurant and the order must be given all at once to count if your order matches this rule. We were a big group who all left the restaurant as Indian dishes are like a group orders several dishes from starter to desert and ultimately gives more business if you let them sit and eat! They were fine with loosing business with this rule... I would advise indian tourists not to schedule your lunch or dinner in this small town to avoid wasting time in finding a good restaurant and indian restaurant have this strange rule here.

"Taste of India" is a misnomer. This is definitely a Bangladeshi restaurant masquerading as an Indian restaurant. This restaurant's Indian cuisine doesn't even come close to the authentic taste. But what really took the cake was the staff's attitude – extremely rude and unfriendly. Avoid this place unless you are looking forward to an extremely below mediocre meal and also enjoy disrespect served in dollops.

Food was ok. Service was rude and cleanliness was questionable. There was a very dirty tablecloth on top of the trolley carrying the main courses. At the end we were denied payment by credit card and had to run for a cash ATM.

I visited this restaurant and had ordered food , which included some rice , bread and starters and a main course . But they forced us to order another main course, which was unnecessary for us. NO ONE CAN Force somebody to order the food which is not required. Worst experience with this restaurant, please don’t spoil Indian’s name.

Not a Good Experience The food was below average and the service was disappointing. They initially refused us dine-in unless we ordered two main courses, then later agreed. At checkout, they wouldn’t accept card payments under £20, which was inconvenient. Overall, not worth it—I wouldn’t recommend this place.

We came to this place thinking we’ll get good Indian food and since this was the only restaurant open at 10 pm. We ordered the food at 1005 pm and got the food at 11. The service was absolutely terrible. Maybe they were severely understaffed. The food was deep red in color with no flavor at all. They were very adamant that every adult had to order one main dish. The kids had rice and biryani. The naans were decent. In the end, we came to know that the place was not Indian but Bangladesh. Maybe that’s why the cuisine was not Indian and we couldn’t relate to it. If you really don’t have any other option, get to this place.

Santo and Sopon had a lovely heart and ran us through the menu. Additionally served us some delicious lamb gosh. The chicken biryani is a must try.

Attendant explained the diferences between dishes and we ordered Samosa, 2 nan (garlic and peshwari), Murgi Massala and Sahi Nawabi Massala Chicken for two person. It was best indian food we even ate! Maybe for a couple that doesn't eat too much, 1 main dish is enough (with nan & samosa)

Good food, decent South Asian cuisine. We ordered chana chotputi and chicken millennium for starters And a lamb biryani and peshwari chicken curry and rice. Everything was very tasty.

Very rude and disrespectful staff. The person who took the order mentioned that we can only give one order and if we need anything more they will not be take the order. We asked for water, we did not get till we left the place. Rubbish attitude and pathetic service.

Exremely rude staff!! Stay away. We called to order indian food and I asked if they culd make my Tikka masala a bit more spicy and the guy answering said 'no you don't understand indian food' aggressivly. He actually ended up hanging up on the phone in the middle of my sentence and interrupted me when I tried to explane what I wanted. I had a very disappointing experience at Taste of India today. When we entered, the staff handed us the menu and rudely told us to sit on the sofa instead of offering proper seating for our group of four. Their attitude was unprofessional and made us feel unwelcome. Good customer service is just as important as good food, but unfortunately, the staff’s behavior ruined our experience. I would not recommend this place if you expect basic respect and hospitality.

I visited Taste of India in Portree with my friends, and unfortunately, we had a very disappointing experience. Right from the entrance, one of the staff members was quite rude to us. Instead of seating us at a table, even though there was plenty of space available inside, we were handed the menu and asked to choose our dishes while waiting in the lobby. This unwelcoming behavior really spoiled the mood of our visit. We expected a much warmer and respectful service, especially from a place that seems popular. Sadly, I wouldn’t recommend this place based on our experience.

I was extremely disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. From the moment we walked in, the staff was unfriendly and downright rude. They insisted that every guest must order at least one main course, and while that policy might be acceptable on its own, the condescending attitude that accompanied it was completely off-putting. It felt more like we were being forced into a corner than treated as valued customers. Adding insult to injury, the food itself was a letdown. Despite the restaurant's claim of serving Indian cuisine, what we received tasted more like Bangladeshi fare. The portions were tiny, especially considering the high prices, and the overall taste left much to be desired. It’s clear that they are taking advantage of the fact that there isn’t much competition in the area. I wouldn’t recommend this place if you’re looking for an authentic, welcoming Indian dining experience.

I’m confused why this restaurant has mixed reviews. This is a really strong Indian restaurant, the food is fantastic and the service is excellent. The menu features a large variety of curries that I hadn’t tried before. I’d definitely recommend.

That was the closest Indian restaurant around so we thought of trying. But won’t ever recommend nor would return back. Rude Staff. Tiny portions. Taste bland and below average. Sadly, only place open when we visited Portree. We were taking away and eating on the move so ordered mixed kebab, mixed grill and onion bhajis. The wee pot of dipping sauce was luminous green! The lamb was inedible as it was so tough. The chicken was overdone and the beef kofta type thing was like sawdust. Salad was ok. Onion bhajis were soggy with grease. We were really disappointed as we had found the staff pleasant and chatty and service fine.

Cuatro fuimos a cenar a un restaurante indio en Portree. Cuando entramos en el restaurante, la persona en el mostrador de recepción nos dio una mirada vacía e inexpresiva y la otra persona preguntó "¿cuántos? " Respondí: "cuatro". Los 4 tenemos entre 62 y 72 años, estamos bien viajados y hemos comido mucho, pero nunca antes nos habíamos enfrentado a una condición culinaria así en un restaurante. Señaló un papel endeble tamaño A 4 pegado en la pared lateral izquierda cuando uno entra en el restaurante con la zona de estar a la derecha, el giro natural que cualquiera que llegara al restaurante tomaría. La mitad del aviso fue sobrepasado con otro pedazo de papel. Sugerí que pusieran un aviso tan importante en la entrada de abajo que la gente leyera antes de entrar. Nos sentimos totalmente magullados por esta experiencia. Estábamos visitando Skye desde el suroeste de Inglaterra y la pareja que llevamos con nosotros estaban visitando el Reino Unido desde el extranjero. ¿Qué impresión sobre Skye se habrían ido con haber experimentado este incidente, no puedo soportar pensar. We were looking for some good food after a long day of driving and site seeing in Skye. We were happy to see an Indian restaurant close by. But we were shocked to see the rude and arrogant behavior of the owner as we entered! Since we were tired and exhausted, we decided to dine there. Never have I seen anyone unwelcome a guest at any restaurant!

Tasty food: delicious and spicy. Service was good. Lots of vegetarian options.

Tried the Milijhuli vegetable curry and the dal. Both were very good. Side portion was rather on the smaller side. Enquired the staff prior to ordering the Naan bread if they were using ready to bake naans which they denied and told us were being freshly made. To our surprise, we were served a naan which tasted and looked pretty much like one off a supermarket shelf. Would have been happier ordering the rice has the staff not misled us which was rather strange of them to do so. Average experience overall.

The worst chicken tika masala I've ever eaten. I'm not even sure it was her. The sauce is bright red and very, very sweet. 🤮rice with garlic and flatbread with garlic saved the situation; they were delicious.

Ordered a takeaway and thought the food was delicious. Had chicken pakora and onion bhaji to start which was great. Mixed korma, lamb masala and garlic naan all very good, if a bit sweet. Delicious mint yoghurt sauce. Staff were lovely and we couldn’t fault it if you are looking for a takeaway whilst on holiday - recommended.

Avoid. Go unless you are seriously missing Indian food. The service is pathetic. When you are on a tourist belt, you need to do much better. They come to your table and ask for your entire order - drinks, appetizers and entrees. So, absolutely not a place to have an experience evening. The food is just ok.

Indian cuisine without big surprises

Great restaurant, I only went in for a take away small chana masala and nann but loved every last bite. It was a warm welcome by the staff who were very friendly. I only put 4 for atmosphere because I did not sit in and eat but from what I saw everyone there was enjoying there meal and environment.

They don’t know how to make authentic Indian/ Pakistani food. I don’t think they read the reviews either; their business model seems to be nonexistent.

We wanted to get something to take away. Very hectic staff and we had to pay immediately after ordering. The preparation went quickly but when we got home, the rice was missing from both dishes. No information from the staff. Prices for a dish without rice are very expensive. In the end it was still tasty, hence two stars.

The name of this restaurant is misleading! It is not an Indian Restaurant and is not serving Indian food, but Bangladeshi food !

The bald little man at the reception was very bad with the service, he was rude and unpolite with us on the reception. I highly recommend not anyone to go to this restaurant. I never had these kind of behaviour from any of the restaurant,

My wife and I came inside this restaurant to ask about the restaurant. Being Indian ourselves we were curious and impressed, as we did not expect to find an Indian restaurant in Portree. Rather than greet us with warmth and hospitality, he was rude to the both of us, and insisted that we grabbed a menu and we sat down at his restaurant or leave. I’m so disappointed, and don’t recommend anyone eat here.

Pleasantly surprised given the average rating. I had a paneer dish to take away, it was absolutely delicious and the portion was just fine for me who has a good appetite. Staff not the warmest I've seen but not rude either. Ask to favor payment by cash.

Really good place, lovely food, one small issue, curry arrived while we were still enjoying the poppadoms, but this didn't spoil the meal, thoroughly enjoyed the evening and would recommend

Palak paneer was excellent. Naan was fresh and excellent. Papadums too. Only negative was the samosas - seemed like something g out of the Tesco frozen aisle and not up to the standards of the other food. Didn’t taste bad; they tasted good. Just didn’t seem as freshly made as everything else. Atmosphere was cool: upstairs right in the heart of the Portree waterfront. Service was friendly. We enjoyed our meal.

There were three of us here and wanted to share 2 dishes, 2 rice + 2 naan. There was almost nothing going on in the shop and we wouldn't have been served without ordering another dish. Pretty ridiculous

We arrived late in Portree and found this place to eat. In addition to not accepting cards, the dishes are scarce in terms of price, almost 8.00 pounds are added for the price of the service that is not indicated on the menu. Exorbitant prices for what they offer, not recommended at all.

Good indian food, though the athmosphere was a bit cold and the waiters were a bit too quick with cleaning the tables. But i would totally recommend going there and give the guys a chance if you are in portree

The food was great and we tried a bunch of stuff. The staff were great and recommended multiple dishes which were great. Went back a second time for dinner and the did not disappoint again.

Naan bread was too thick and vegetable pakora was too greasy, couldn’t finish and felt like we were rushed to get out.

The advantage is that it closes later than the others

The place serves the best Naan we had in Scotland .. we ordered one more even when we were not hungry .. the second good thing is the location and ample seating for the rest.. why was the food so sweet? And so much cabbage in all kinds of mix veg orders? The rice was fine Service was ok.. though the place was quite not fully still everybody seemed to be in a hurry.

Very delicious, a lot of choice and no problem at all with the service. I don't understand why people dislike being served fast.

Manager was extremely rude. Just staggeringly so. They insisted on cash once food was ordered even though a card reader was clearly visible - apparently it wasn’t working like others have said on here. Expensive for what we received. Ate at far better places on Portree. Will never return. Did I mention how unbelievably rude curt and aggressive the manger came across as.

The taste might be okay, but I don’t say it’s Indian foods.

Ok type food.. only two I believe in the town Centre… of the two this one seems to be better w some veg options.

Food deserves a much higher score than this restaurant has...it was really good. It's also probably that only restaurant in town that's open past 8pm. Payment in cash is preferred.

The food is excellent! The biriyani is one of the best biriyani I tasted outside of India. Only thing I found little weird that somebody pointed out that each person had to order a main course to be seated. Unless you have a small child in the group this is not even an option. My suggestion to the restaurant would be to put that sign somewhere obvious rather than to say at your face. Otherwise great food, good service.

Food taste is average. Very unhealthy as we got a polythene in our curry.

Great food, can vouch for vegetarian food.

Acceptable tasting food. But the portions were very poor, too poor in quantity. They "forced" us to pay in cash because the dataphone "didn't work." They made us wait 20 minutes until we said either they would charge us or we would leave. Obviously the dataphone worked for them. Very uncomfortable experience. we will not return

I get that it can seem pricey, but in an area like Portree that is to be expected. As someone who lived in South Asia for a considerable time, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. The wait staff was friendly and direct and the food a tad less spiced (as often I expect in the UK). Overall delicious.
