I recently visited Taste of India in Portree and was extremely disappointed with the attitude of the receptionist and entrance staff. Their rude behavior and unwelcoming approach made for an unpleasant start to the dining experience. As a customer, I expect basic courtesy and professionalism, which were unfortunately lacking.👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

I had a very disappointing experience at Taste of India today. When we entered, the staff handed us the menu and rudely told us to sit on the sofa instead of offering proper seating for our group of four. Their attitude was unprofessional and made us feel unwelcome. Good customer service is just as important as good food, but unfortunately, the staff’s behavior ruined our experience. I would not recommend this place if you expect basic respect and hospitality.

I visited Taste of India in Portree with my friends, and unfortunately, we had a very disappointing experience. Right from the entrance, one of the staff members was quite rude to us. Instead of seating us at a table, even though there was plenty of space available inside, we were handed the menu and asked to choose our dishes while waiting in the lobby. This unwelcoming behavior really spoiled the mood of our visit. We expected a much warmer and respectful service, especially from a place that seems popular. Sadly, I wouldn’t recommend this place based on our experience.

I was extremely disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. From the moment we walked in, the staff was unfriendly and downright rude. They insisted that every guest must order at least one main course, and while that policy might be acceptable on its own, the condescending attitude that accompanied it was completely off-putting. It felt more like we were being forced into a corner than treated as valued customers. Adding insult to injury, the food itself was a letdown. Despite the restaurant's claim of serving Indian cuisine, what we received tasted more like Bangladeshi fare. The portions were tiny, especially considering the high prices, and the overall taste left much to be desired. It’s clear that they are taking advantage of the fact that there isn’t much competition in the area. I wouldn’t recommend this place if you’re looking for an authentic, welcoming Indian dining experience.

I’m confused why this restaurant has mixed reviews. This is a really strong Indian restaurant, the food is fantastic and the service is excellent. The menu features a large variety of curries that I hadn’t tried before. I’d definitely recommend.

That was the closest Indian restaurant around so we thought of trying. But won’t ever recommend nor would return back. Rude Staff. Tiny portions. Taste bland and below average. Restaurant was empty and still they acted as if it was the busiest. More than anything else, the main disappointment was the attitude of the staff.

Sadly, only place open when we visited Portree. We were taking away and eating on the move so ordered mixed kebab, mixed grill and onion bhajis. The wee pot of dipping sauce was luminous green! The lamb was inedible as it was so tough. The chicken was overdone and the beef kofta type thing was like sawdust. Salad was ok. Onion bhajis were soggy with grease. We were really disappointed as we had found the staff pleasant and chatty and service fine.

Tried the Milijhuli vegetable curry and the dal. Both were very good. Side portion was rather on the smaller side. Enquired the staff prior to ordering the Naan bread if they were using ready to bake naans which they denied and told us were being freshly made. To our surprise, we were served a naan which tasted and looked pretty much like one off a supermarket shelf. Would have been happier ordering the rice has the staff not misled us which was rather strange of them to do so. Average experience overall.

Well I am happy for the fact to be even getting an Indian restaurant at this small town. So if u crave for Indian food, this is the only option. However they are not truly Indian, they are Bangladeshi. As soon as we entered, they told us its mandate to order 1 main course dish per person (compared to the usual Indian sharing way). Also service wasn’t great. Food was deep red in colour and on a sweeter side. When we ordered naan bread for 2nd time, they said we have to wait a minimum 40 mins(in middle of the food which we were eating). I saw them pouring coke in the glass from a big coke bottle already opened. Ofcourse we craved for Indian food and this was the only option and very central. But quality wise, it’s not same as a good authentic Indian place.

Beware of this Faux Indian Place During a recent visit to "The Taste of India" in Portree, Isle of Skye, Scotland, my party and I were met with a level of discourtesy that was nothing short of appalling. As a seasoned traveler and authentic Punjabi, I have traversed the culinary landscapes of Pakistan, India, and beyond, yet never have I encountered such ungracious and inhospitable service. Upon entering, our group of five adults and four children was brusquely informed that we were obligated to order nine main courses—an arbitrary and unwarranted stipulation that set the tone for the remainder of our experience. The staff's demeanor was dismissive and condescending, as if we were an imposition rather than valued patrons. The culinary offerings purported to be Indian, yet they fell egregiously short of any semblance of authenticity. The menu was littered with perplexing misnomers such as "Sabzi Shabnam," "Kaliaa," and "Mohonwala," with a variety of dishes labeled as "Hundi" rather than the traditional "Handi." These aberrations from genuine Indian cuisine were not only misleading but also disappointing in their execution. In summation, "The Taste of India" is a misnomer in the truest sense, failing to deliver both the essence of Indian hospitality and the richness of its culinary heritage. I implore potential diners to eschew this establishment in favor of venues that honor the authentic flavors and warmth that Indian cuisine is renowned for. Let this serve as a cautionary tale for those who seek genuine cultural and gastronomic experiences. Stay 100 miles away from this place. Eat McDonald's or Fish & Chips or just the chips or crisps if you have ever eaten authentic Indian food.

Put in an order of Large Kingfisher, chicken tikka masala, onion bhaji and Dahi poori - only to be told that snacks will only be served if we put in the order for food then itself. I said I am not sure yet and they said they can’t serve just snacks. We added an entree of Paneer but the waiter said we need to add 3 more entrees before they can serve any food so we left. The staff seemed non-interested in serving took them 10 min to arrive and gave a pretty anti-Indian vibe. Taste of India: A Tasteful Experience I recently ate at Taste of India and it was a fantastic experience. The food was super tasty, full of flavor and perfectly seasoned. Every dish felt authentic and was prepared with great care. The friendly service made the evening even more special. They were attentive, helpful and always with a smile. This restaurant is highly recommended for anyone who enjoys delicious Indian food. I will definitely come back here again!

Had high hopes on this restaurant but my experience was extremely pathetic. Forget about customer delight, they don’t even know what’s customer satisfaction. Bluntly refused to take order as they don’t want to serve side dishes, but only main dishes. Also said that they don’t care about customer’s feedback. High time they change their mindset towards customers and behave properly.

Rude staff who does not give a damn about customer. They have absurd rules of having to order atleast 1 fully curry for each person (can’t share food) and allows to order only once - thats at the beginning.. when you go in you’ll be greeted by few grumpy faces. Not surprised by the google rating.. One basic suggestion to the management of this restaurant: Learn to respect!

I am a review follower but rarely a writer. First things first, the food is fantastic! The garlic rice & garlic naan are incredible! Wish I had ordered one each. Children’s portion was generous & flavoursome, my curry addict kid devoured the lot. No mango lassis but that’s never guaranteed. As for the card machine debate. We stated as we entered that we did not have cash & if card would be ok, which it was. We paid at the counter upon leaving, however, had heard others were asked to pay by cash if possible. **Paying by card is not a problem at all.**

The staff was very kind letting us sit down for lunch 30 minutes before they closed till dinner, while other places would not seat us. The food was very tasty and left both my girl and I very satisfied with our meals. They had several different kinds of naan which made it difficult to choose but in a good way! Once the bill came the staff said it was cash only which is fine. We are in the Highlands of Scotland, in a very small town. As a tourist you should have the local currency on you regardless of where you travel.

Would give this place 1 star only because the food was actually edible. Unfortunately, the service was terrible. Our waiter was rude from the beginning, inattentive throughout the meal. The owner kept asking for cash even though it's the 21st century and they even have a card machine. The overall experience was frustrating, and I wouldn't recommend this place unless you're willing to put up with bad service for decent food.

Lets be honest.. this is one of the only places (if not the only place) that stays open after 9 pm and you do not need reservation to dine, which is the only plus points for this restaurant. The food is merely average, for an Indian restaurant, the food lacked flavor and spices. The team in the restaurant were friendly and I personally did not experience any unpleasantness as mentioned in the previous reviews

Very horrible experience. The manager was very rude to Asian (especially South and East Asian). They treated White differently. They refused to provide tap water and called me Bxxxh when I showed them a piece of raw meat in the dishes. They refused to change the dish. They even covered my phone when I tried to take picture and said this is Indian Sashimi that Chxxky love. After reading all comments here, I can conclude only White gives them 5 star review. If you are going to leave 5 star now, think twice that the owner is laughing as they can keep serving disgusting food to fool their preferred customer.

Stopped into this restaurant our first night in Portree (June 2024). Food and service were great! We ordered Paneer, Chana Ghugni, and a chicken dish that was recommended by the server with a side of garlic / cheese naan. They were one of the few restaurants open past 9PM on a Tuesday.

We were very concerned going into the restaurant seeing the ratings. However, the quality of food itself was quite good. I understand folks are concerned about rudeness and maybe he is not the most jovial, but in the end taste matters and for that, the current rating (2.9⭐) absolutely does not do it justice.

Extensive choice, many dishes never heard of before even though I am a curry buff. Quality second to none. Excellent service and good value. Would recommend and certainly come back if we were ever here again.

This was a pretty good Indian restaurant in Inverness. It's not quite on the same level as the one in Edinburgh, but this is definitely worth a visit.

Ordered a pizza and a burger with two bottles of juice should be what like 30-35mins including delivery? Yet here I am a nearly two hours later answering the door to the delivery driver. After phoning them a hour prior to delivery to check on my order!! Food was stale and cold, not good service at all Balti in Alness is far better and faster.

We popped in last Sunday Evening and got a lovely warm welcome, I'm vegan and they very kindly helped me choose a fabulous vegan dish, the other 3 weren't vegan and they all enjoyed their choices too. A lovely restaurant with great friendly service, excellent food and a lovely atmosphere. We were staying at Dochgarroch holiday cottages, parked at the cathedral carpark and crossed the bridge so very easy to find too.

The food was decent but not truly authentic Indian. Flavors were mild, and it lacked the richness I expected. Not bad overall, but not the best for those seeking real Indian taste.

Stop serving stale sauces and food! You may be able to fool the locals but can’t fool everyone. Only good thing is it is open till 11PM
