This place is an absolute disgrace, and I have no idea how it’s still operating. We arrived in Portree, starving and desperate for a decent meal, only to stumble into what can only be described as a culinary nightmare. The food arrived quickly, but that was the only positive. The taste? Horrendous and downright inedible. We ordered 1 Butter Prawn (£14.95), 1 Pasanda Chicken Tikka (£10.95), 1 Fried Rice (£4.95), and 2 Parathas (£4.95), totaling £44.75 (including a service charge for what, exactly?). The so-called “food” was an insult to taste buds everywhere. To call it “authentic” is false advertising at its finest—it was barely worthy of being called food, let alone authentic. The dishes were so bad we couldn’t wait to pay and leave. Then came the next shock: no card payments accepted! There was a tiny sign inside, conveniently placed out of sight, saying the card machine wasn’t working. We weren’t informed about this before ordering, which was incredibly misleading. With no cash or cards on hand (they were left on our tour bus), we were left scrambling. Turns out, they were happy to take a bank transfer and even had their account details readily available—clearly, this isn’t a one-off issue. The fact they don’t have a sign on the front door is appalling and reeks of shady business practices. To add insult to injury, they don’t even offer tap water! You’re forced to pay for bottled water, squeezing every last penny out of you. The area barely has any signal, so I couldn’t check reviews beforehand—otherwise, I would’ve stayed far away from this so-called restaurant. Honestly, they should be fined for false advertising and shut down. Disgusting, disappointing, and utterly pathetic. Avoid this place at all costs.

If you want to enjoy the WORST indian meal in Portree, please visit this prestigious restaurant. Visited this restaurant and had an extremely disappointing experience. The food was of terrible quality, and despite giving clear instructions, they managed to serve us wrong dishes multiple times. In fact, we had to change our dish three times, and still, they couldn’t get it right. The most shocking part was when they mixed non-vegetarian food in a vegetarian order, which is completely unacceptable. This shows a severe lack of attention to customer preferences and dietary requirements. The service was equally poor—staff seemed clueless and untrained. To top it off, they overcharged us on the bill, which we had to meticulously point out due to their miscalculation. It felt like they were trying to rip us off. Overall: Worst food, incompetent staff, and an unacceptable dining experience. Avoid this place at all costs if you value your time, money, and dietary preferences.

Worst food, tasteless food, unhygienic food, stupid staff, uncooked food, served raw meat in curry( twice), will not recommend even for free meal. The staff person in the picture was dealing with us and they are not giving formal bills, not accepting card payments, they pnly want cash and are not ready to even give receipts for that. Also charging service charge on these unofficial bills and say this is landstory by scottish law ( we paid because we are tourists and didn’t know the truth). But anyway, food is not food. Its waste. Plus its a Bangladeshi restaurant, not Indian.

Started with Onion Bhaji for £5.99. Not seasoned nicely but very small even for a starter. I had Vegetable Bhuna as a main which was described as medium spice but was rather bland and laking flavour. The naan was doughy and cold. Overall edible but not somewhere I would go again or recommend. The table next to me was also complaining about their food and drinks the whole span of my meal. Very expensive for bad food.

Had a very disappointing experience. Despite the name, it doesn’t truly represent Indian cuisine or taste—the waiters and even the flag displayed were Bangladeshi. The waiting time to get a waiter’s attention was excessively long, and unfortunately, the food didn’t make up for it. The only thing I liked was the cheese naan; everything else fell short in taste. This meal was very disappointing unfortunately. The puppodums and sauces were nice, however the starters were scrappy and tasted stale. Of the four mains we ordered, two were passable but the butter chicken and chicken Tikka masala were barely edible and did not resemble any curries we have had in the past. The pilau rice was essentially boiled white rice with green and red food colouring. The garlic naans did not appear to contain any garlic whatsoever sadly. The service was OK but unfortunately we cannot recommend this restaurant.

In the absence of other restaurants available in PORTREE (Scotland) we landed at The Prince of India. Half Scottish, half Indian atmosphere. The entrance is very unwelcoming (rear of the building). The server is nice. There Menu not very clear between the explanations of the dishes, the bashi disches 🤔, naan with all the tastes of the earth (mango, coconut, garlic, cheese…) at £5…. Well we chose 4 different dishes and 4 naans because we were cold and hungry. In the end we end up with two identical dishes with missing flavors. Very sparse Indian dishes (4 pieces of chicken per person) in a tasteless sauce. As a bonus in the rice, an unidentified “thing” between the crushed fish head and a fried bug 👽, which will remain on the edge of the plate at the risk of ending up sick. Big fans of naans, we try the cheese ones which are ultimately just fried pizza dough with a slice of melted industrial cheddar 😵💫. In short, the adventure did not go well. Before leaving the table we ask the waiter for the bill and we request confirmation of payment by credit card. He only says that you have to ask for it at the counter and negotiate with the cashier for the credit card… hummm that smells like a trick…. So we go to the cash register (£85 for 4 without alcohol or dessert), we learn that bank cards are not accepted. By putting the funds out of our pockets we come out with £65. The boss counts and recounts the bill... they ask us for euros at worst or 💵... but we have nothing more. Finally he sneaks out of nowhere the credit card machine that he asks us to pay in secret 👀 the missing £10 with a small bonus of 20 pence bonus for the tip surely 🧐. Well, unless you are starving or have lost all your senses, this address is not recommended. Which is a shame for a small town like Portree… Namsté 👳🏽♂️🪷

DON’T TAKE THE CARD (that’s what he says)! We paid £85 for 4 people (4 dishes, 4 naans), cash only. The waiter placed us next to the other customers even though the restaurant was almost empty, then the waiter rushed us to order even though we had just arrived, not to mention the multiple waiters who were roaming around staring at us. For the meal the naan is made of pizza dough which coats the cheddar cheese. We also found an unidentified object in the rice then the tandori chicken and its sauce were bland. For payment only cash is accepted, we didn't have enough so he asked us for euros so that finally the credit card machine suddenly worked he made us pay the rest by card while hiding the device so that the other customers do not see the device. In addition, it is expensive and low in quantity. To flee Scammers

A default d’autres restaurants disponibles sur PORTREE (Écosse) nous avons atterri à The Prince of India.

RIPPED OFF - avoid! Their tactic is to charge for extras or things that you don't notice. After seeing the bad mark on google reviews, we spent the dinner discussing if it deserved such a bad mark, and agreed a 2.7 was fair for the food taste and quality. But after seeing the bill and attitude, it deserves a 0. Totally ripped off. Total bill: 180 gbp for 4 adults (+ 2 little kids who ate very little). A much better indian restaurant in edimburgh costed us half the price. 85 gbp extra charge for things that would cost 30 gbp tops (rice + nan + "free" starter): 35 gbp for 5 small rices 15 gbp for 3 nan (which we didn't even ask for, only accepted as a suggestion). Nan taste was a total indignity, made a lot of jokes about it. 18 gbp for the always free starter we also didn't even ask for. 16 gbp for service (which the guy finally removed after seeing we were outraged...just tried to charge it in case we didn't spot it). They say they don't accept cards/the card machine is broken, but let us pay by card when we said we had no cash (they just try to avoid tax). As soon as we sat down, the waiter cleared all our forks and knives, leaving only the spoons on the table, like we were expected to eat with our hands and a spoon! Just because we are Indians! I found it highly offensive, especially since the white people in the restaurant were "allowed" to keep all their silverware. They were very rude when talking to us, especially when they were making it crystal clear that they would only give us a seat if we were willing to pay cash! The food was terrible! We ordered sag paneer ( which turned out to be 5 hard pieces of paneer cooked in onions with some spinach tossed in), chicken biryani ( it was edible and possibly the best of all the dishes, with a rating of 1/10), paneer Balti (5 hard pieces of paneer, with uncooked tomatoes and onions and raw spices), a keema dish (minced lamb dish, that was some mini balls of lamb, tossed in with raw onions, tomatoes and raw spices) and two rotis that were ridiculously hard. They charged £1.15 per papad, and didn't have any green chutney to go with it. Overall food was very disappointing, service was pathetic, ambiance was nothing great! This place is not run by Indians! Unpleasant experience, excessively expensive prices for a quantity of children. The waiter certified me as quality meat to explain the small quantity but it was not good. Chips and sauce offered, not ordered and moreover to be paid for. I do not recommend this establishment. I should have trusted the previous reviews.

Strongly recommend not to Visit this Place, We had very very bad experience, 1st of all the manager is very arrogant and cheater, while preparing bill he added extra amount in my bill and they do not give you copy of bill as they want to cheat you by adding extra money. Food quality was not at all fresh and it was frozen and microwaved, they do not accept card payment , only cash. I was charged approx 20-22 pounds extra than my actual bill which realised after we left hotel.

I stumbled upon this restaurant by chance, and I'm so glad I did! The food was exceptional, with each dish bursting with flavor. The staff were friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even better. I’ll definitely be coming back!

This restaurant exceeded all my expectations. The dishes were beautifully presented and tasted even better than they looked. The attention to detail in both the food and service really stood out. Definitely a must-visit spot!

We are pure vegetarian. We ordered daal, rice, roti and nawabi vegetable. We were satisfied with the food. This is much better than Taste of India. Indians travelling shall prefer this. We also had a take out and not dine in.

We were excited for Indian food. The food was adequate but they charged us for rice to go with our curry food. We’ve never had to pay for rice at other Indian restaurants. As soon as we finished eating the man in charge told us to go pay. He told us again and pointed to the door for us to leave. We stood up to leave and they moved in quickly to clean up the table for the next customer. We went to pay and they wouldn’t take a credit card. They insisted we pay with cash. They wiped us out of our US Dollars. On the door as we left, there was a sign showing that credit cards were accepted. We have laughed about being pushed out of the restaurant. We are 4 respectable, clean mature adults from the US.

Unfortunately, our first meal in the Isle of Skye. DO NOT REPEAT our mistake. We were very hungry and we had exactly the same experience as others that reviewed this restaurant. Many suggestions for side dishes by the restaurant manager resulted in the bill of 62,50 GBP for two very average meals with a small portion of rice, water and one glass of wine. We have never experienced a restaurant manager being so mean to a guest as in this place. The manager literary chased away a guest who tried to ask for a bill. The guest was a young man and the manager shouted at him twice to sit down because he didn’t have time for him. Please, do not go to this place, you will be dissapointed!

Very disappointed with our takeaway. Arrived Saturday in portree just after 9pm in evening and looked for takeaway to eat, after a long drive. My husband asked for a portion of vegetable pakora and portion of chicken pakora and one bag of chips. The portion size was laughable, I actually thought he was joking when he emptied out the bag with food. If this had been served back home at price charged it would have been thrown back!!!!! Very poor indeed and certainly will not be back 👎 £15.80 😳

This is a Bangladeshi restaurant using India's name to attract customers. Ok that's acceptable as a marketing strategy, but the food is seriously horrible and on top of that the arrogant staff they don't accept card, only cash. I would not recommend this restaurant any day, as a tourist you have lot many other options to explore in portree.

Definitely not traditional Indian food like I have ever had. The Lamb Tikka Masala was very sweet but still good. The veggie pakora and vegetable samosas were decent. The food was very fast and the staff was very accommodating. We went at a very busy time but still got right in.

Horrendous, sour, spoiled (gone bad) food. Poor service, some items were not available because they didn’t have the Tandoor heated up, poor management. Small space, small tables, and door completely open, letting in the frigid evening air. Extremely expensive. Prohibitively so, definitely not worth even half the price. Save your money, save your time. Also not even Indian. They’re Bangladeshi and don’t even know how to make Indian food. Their logo has a Punjabi Sikh on it though. Gross false advertisement.

Severely disappointing. I had hoped the other reviews were overly harsh but no, they were spot on. Everything you don’t want from a restaurant. Prices for portion size are a complete rip off and blatantly a tourist trap. Always empty and card machine is always “not working” (hmm wonder why, maybe disconnected by merchants). Ive had Indian food in the centre of London that is better value for money. Very generic tasting and the naan was practically anorexic. I am totally sympathetic to small businesses on skye as cost of living for locals is extortionate. I have family here and have been coming for 40 years so i have seen the inflation and don’t expect to pay “glasgow” prices however even the owner of the famous greek oyster bar’s eyes would have been watering. Definitely one to avoid as this isn’t making an honest living, it’s preying on unknowing tourists and gives skye a bad reputation. Waiting staff were pleasant

Unfortunately I have to write a very bad review. The restaurant is modest and slightly out of the way. When we got there at 4 PM on Sunday there were only 2 guests, who were clearly surprised when leaving that they had to pay over £60 for very modest dishes. The information that payment is possible only in cash is visible only when you want to order food. We feel cheated, even though mathematically the bill was correct. And as I see, I am not the only one who has similar experiences.. And this is because the restaurant turned out to be extremely expensive for the quality offered and the size of the portions due to the illegible prices and menu. I suggest that before deciding to order, you make sure what the total cost will be, and not just check the prices on the menu... You need to carefully read the prices of EVERY part of the dish. Rice or chapati are not included in the dish, and their price is sometimes higher than the main course. The restaurant manager recommends side dishes without giving prices. The menu is very long and hard to read, so it is difficult to remember all the prices. I travel all over Europe, USA and also India and I have never paid so much for Indian food in such a simple place. As for taste, it is correct but it was not worth such a high price. £4.50 for a small portion of rice. Very strange energy of the place, the owner constantly talks loudly on the phone in a foreign language, and when I pointed out that he did not warn about the prices of the proposed additions, he suggested to go to another restaurant next time. On their menu on the building they write that the management can change prices at their discretion and without notice and that they can refuse service without giving a reason. HORRIBLE PLACE - I DO NOT RECOMMEND !!! Dear owner, karma is coming back!

My experience was horrible. 18.7.2024 was in portree and ordered some dishes. Rice was cold, dal tadka had no seasoning and chicken Jhalfrezi's chicken was hard and I think there was food color in it. Quantity of Rice very small. And butter nun was hard and there was no butter on it. I can't explain that night's experience. As an Indian those are not actual Indian food. Believe me, we don't use food color in our food but they. That was Bangladeshi restaurant and run by Bangladeshi owner, staff and their own regional process of making food. I am suggesting never ever go to Prince of India. 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡 You improve the quality of food and learn cooking if you can. Taking 4 pounds for rice, don't see Bengali give a little more. I will say one thing that no Bengali should go. 😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞

If ever you are in Portree, Scotland, and you've just returned from touring the beautiful island and are starving, whatever you do, do not walk into this restaurant. First you will notice that unlike the majority of packed eateries in Portree, this one will be empty. Second you will see the sign that says no credit cards. If you decided to stay, be aware that service is slow and drinks are small. But, all this would not matter if the food is good. Unfortunately, it isn't. It is, quite frankly, the worst Indian food I have ever had. When asked about the food, I remarked that the Korma was not edible, the manager was extremely defensive and did not want to hear whatever we had so say, so we paid our bill in full and left. It was the worst restaurant experience we've ever had.

We visited Café Mango in Fort William, and it was a complete disappointment. The restaurant was freezing—I had to keep my jacket on just to stay warm. Not exactly the cosy atmosphere you'd expect. They don’t serve alcohol, which is fine, but if you bring your own, they charge £3.50 per person just to drink it. Pretty steep for simply providing a glass. The food was basic and seriously overpriced. The chicken was rock hard—I could hear the microwave pinging in the kitchen, so it was clearly reheated. The worst part? £5 for just THREE tiny pieces of veg pakora—what a rip-off. The total bill came to £47 for: A korma Tarka daal One rice One chapatti One small naan Three tiny pieces of veg pakora Two half-pint glasses of Coke Zero For that price, I expected something fresh and decent, but instead, I got microwaved food and laughably small portions. The place was completely empty, and now I know why. Never again.

Sorry to say but my food wasn't good, Chicken tikka nann kebab. Chicken was rubbery and tasteless, nann was like dough and the cabbage(salad) Was watery and tasted like it was on the turn... The watery part made the nann soggy and not very nice.
