Shapla Tandoori in Highland

We popped in last Sunday Evening and got a lovely warm welcome, I'm vegan and they very kindly helped me choose a fabulous vegan dish, the other 3 weren't vegan and they all enjoyed their choices too. A lovely restaurant with great friendly service, excellent food and a lovely atmosphere. We were staying at Dochgarroch holiday cottages, parked at the cathedral carpark and crossed the bridge so very easy to find too.

Where ever we travel to we have a curry. Last night we had one of the best. I had chicken madras and my husband had a lamb jalfrezi. The sauces and meat were delicious. Good service and atmosphere x

Worst indian food, bad service and pathetic behavior by the manager

Not sure why it has a low rating, we got a takeaway from here and it was delicious, one of the nicest kormas I've had in a long time, portions were a grwat size too. The staff were friendly and restaurant looked nice, definitely would recommend!

We had such a great time! The food was delicious! Quiet! Nice atmosphere. Very attentive. Loved the Naan and all the fried rice. Butter Chicken, Chicken Tikka, and Korma Chicken were amazing!

Me and my friend ate here lastnight while we’re working away. Was shocked to see it was completely empty on a Saturday night! We thought we were missing something when the starters came out and looked and tasted fantastic. (Onion baji’s were banging!) Our main courses were brilliant, probably one of the best curries I’ve had (I got the chicken bhuna and my mate had the pathia) Staff were really friendly, the atmosphere and views from the restaurant were amazing, sat looking out on the River Ness and the bridge which was lit up. Ontop of this it was really affordable! Between us we had 3 large starters, 2 rice, 2 curries, cheesy naan and 4 large beers for 40 quid each. But obviously it would be much less if you’re not as greedy or as thirsty as us 😂 DO NOT LISTEN TO THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS. I don’t normally bother writing reviews but seeing the negativity and snobbiness of other peoples reviews after such a great experience meant I had to. So sad that such a good place can have their livelihood and business affected by snobs. Would definitely come again!

Very disappointing experience. We came at 16:30 and ordered starters. The waiter came back saying the boss said no orders unless u ordered the main course. Rude staff 👎

We (family of 6) had a pretty disappointing experience at Shapla. We walked in to an empty restaurant at 4:10 pm & wanted to start with some appetisers before we hit dinner. After taking our order, and making us wait for 15 min, the staff told us rudely that his boss has said that we need to order our mains right away else they will not serve the appetisers. This approach felt unnecessarily restrictive and unwelcoming, especially since appetizers are often the perfect way to gauge the quality of a restaurant before committing to larger portions. We felt pressured and rushed, which took away from what should have been a relaxed and enjoyable evening. Not coming back again!

We visited 7 adult 4 children on 28/12/2024,while entering manager at door , not welcoming even with a single smile. When ordering he wasn’t helpful when asking about dishes. One year kid was playing in high chair and he said keep him quiet, salads were not fresh either. Overall they were not friendly at all

Delightful Experience beside the River Ness… Highly recommended!

Great place, nice vibe and the food was delicious. Service was excellent and friendly and they gave us service up to a very late time hours as a friendly gesture.

Hemos estado en Shapla muchas veces y siempre disfrutamos de la comida y la vista sobre el río. Esta vez queríamos ir a almorzar. Cuando subimos las escaleras, un camarero nos llevó de vuelta abajo y a una habitación decorada a la mitad que conduce a otra habitación. Gran parte de la razón por la que vamos es por la vista y ciertamente no queremos comer por nuestra cuenta en una habitación sucia. Así que nos fuimos y dudo que volvamos, especialmente mirando algunas de las otras reseñas.

La comida fue excelente , el personal muy atento y agradable, estuvo platicando con nosostros, la vista del Río es espectacular y la comida es riquísima !!!!

The food and ambiance and all are good but the owner is pretty rude and arrogant

Arriving for a 3 night stop over, our first evening was graced by a visit to Shapla. Service was swift. Manner polite. Food utterly delicious. Staff were so attentive and helped us choose other menu items other than good old fashioned go to’s. Was not let down. Absolute gem of a venue.

We were so hesitant on coming here due to the high level of bad reviews, but seen a lot of good ones most recently, so decided to give it a chance. Oh how we were wrong.. We were the only ones in the full restaurant, once seated and given our menus, we had to wait nearly 20 minutes until someone came to take our order… for which my husband had to stand up and ask for someone to come over. There were 3 men standing up at the bar talking. I asked the waiter if they could do a tikka masala, as this wasn’t on the menu and I said no worries if not able to, just thought I’d ask, he said yes and what I received was not a tikka masala, but a chasni (as that’s what was wrote on our receipt). The curries were the worst we’ve ever had.. honestly!! There was no taste to them whatsoever and were extremely watered down, they was more water than sauce. I had to leave the majority of my paneer as it tasted sour and curdled in the middle. We also ordered popadoms and chutneys to start, you would think that mango chutney is supposed to be relatively thick, again, extremely watered down and was literally slipping right off the popadom before we could get even get it in our mouths.. The only reason why I’m giving 2 stars were for the drinks (draught coke and irn bru) these were really good and were a godsend to be able to wash down our miserable curries. To be the only ones in the restaurant on a Saturday night at 6pm (2 x further tables came in 45 mins after us), but having to wait that amount of time and having to ask ourselves for our order to be taken, plus the watered down curries and horrible food, we will never ever be back. Please do yourselves a favour and don’t come here. The staff in there just don’t seem to care at all, as this is really reflected in the service and the food itself. I wish we could have said we were one of the lucky ones with a good experience.

As an Indian restaurant very good food and staff

Not at all tasty or spicy. C'mon guys you can do better. There is little/no salt in the Biriyani and that Tandoori chicken was below par. It's quite disappointing that many people believe this is authentic Indian food, when in reality, it differs significantly in almost every aspect.

I moved to Inverness 2 yrs ago from London. I have eaten many Indian meals in the famous Brick Lane which has some of the best Indian restaurants in the UK. My food this evening rivaled any of those restaurants. STUNNING AND DELICIOUS. Portion size was fantastic. MASSIVE THUMBS UP GUYS. Definitely be back

Delivery late by an hour! Food stone cold when arrived

I don’t know why this place got low stars. It’s amazing, I’ve had Indian all over and this place tasted amazing. The view over the river is lovely, the staff is helpful and kind, and our order was cooked to perfection with the perfect amount of mild vs spicy. We had the korma and the butter chicken, with plain and pashwari naan and it was all amazing.

Superb Indian food don't be put off by the harsh reviews, we nearly didn't go. I came here years ago and wanted to share with my young family. My son had his first tikka and loved it, while my daughter had chips and nuggets which again was spot on. We parents enjoyed the food and the views over river Ness were exceptional. Not cheap being honest, but still very good food and nice place.

We really enjoyed the food and the view. The food was rich in flavour, fresh spices. We had three vegetarian dishes, while rated ‘medium spicy’ compared to the Indian food back in the Netherlands not as ‘hot’ but certainly lots of flavour. The waiter was polite and helped with questions concerning food allergies. They made ice-tea for my daughter which she really enjoyed.

The service is perhaps a little average but frankly, the dishes were great! They didn't deserve a bad rating. Very good value for money. Well put.

The reviews are very exaggerated here. Excellent lamb vindaloo. Would eat here again, curries were flavorful and delicious. Service could be a little better, but authentic and tasty.

Visited here for evening meal (on a whim) while staying in Inverness. The first thing we noticed was the amazing view out of the window down the river! We had 2 starters, 2 mains, 2 sides. Food was delicious, filling, and portion sizes fair. Staff were also very friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend.

I always check out a few reviews before ordering a take away, Shapla had mixed reviews and quite a lot of poor reviews, however I decided to try for Myself, mainly because of the location which was very convenient to Me, it also has a stunning view from the restaurant, I'm glad I decided to try Shapla, the gentleman who served Me was very friendly and polite, excellent customer service, the food was delicious, my experience here was very good and I shall be a returning customer :)

Shapla's food was actually extremely disappointing, to put it mildly. We got a takeaway for the family of 8 while visiting Inverness and opted for the (usually) safe option of paneer, daal and veg jalfraizie with naan. Now, the service wasn't too bad, but we didn't eat-in so I cannot say much about the atmosphere. The food: The butter paneer was actually pink in colour, was sweet enough to count as desert and had coconut in it. And it tasted worse than it looked. The Veg. Jalfraizie was acceptable, although not something of a restaurant quality. The daal, which is an Indian staple, was tasteless and felt like I was having lentil soup. The best item on the menu was the fried papad. Sorry to say but the food we had tonight did not taste like authentic Indian cuisine or anywhere close to it.

One of the worst restaurant I've ever seen. I xame with friends from Edinburgh. The waitrer doesn't know how to talk with customers, the way of behaving with us is soo rude. And glasses and plates are dirty. After i asked it's dirty.he's saying they served like that and it's dish washer problem..

Atmosphere is not bad. We are the 5 persons came for lunch. This is the worst food ever had. Not at all worthy. We order chicken biryani and lamb biryani, ch jalfregi, keema rice and special rice. Except keema rice. Everything is the worst. Chicken and lamb not cooked it's all raw and spicy. And the service is too worst.

We had the worst experience. The waiter with beard and slim he doesn't know how to customers. His behavior soo rude. When I tried to pay he is asking the my debit card. He doesn't want me to tap. He wanna use the card. He just throw the bill on the table. And I ordered ch jalfreji. Exactly I received 5 pieces in the curry. I payed 11.95 for 5 pieces that too not tasty.it's not worth for it. Want to experience worst food and hospitality? Want to ruin your mood and experience? Visit this restaurant. We were on a trip and very excited to have Indian food, visited here. I was first served a super blunt biryani which had no flavours at all. I requested if they could make it a bit spicier. The staff very rudely took the biryani away even before I could complete my sentence. Another staff again with a very annoyed face brought the spicier biryani. Then he came to ask us if the food was okay. Not: they never spoke to me, while the problem was with my food. They only kept on asking my partner if everything thing was okay. Even after bringing my biryani back. Then they started telling him in a very disrespectful tone to communicate in advance about spice requirements. He didn’t want to stop. He was going on saying, “ Make your choice for spicy food clear, communication is important.” The reason we asked to make it spicier was because it was flavourless and horrible, thought maybe some spicy will make it better. They just added loads of green chillies to the food. I was either served a blunt, tasteless biryani or a bowl of chopped chillies in some rice and curry. How disgusting is that. On top of that the behaviour. Lastly for the first time I was given a bill where the staff couldn’t bother much to do the total of the amount. They just put the rates of the dishes. Maybe communication doesn’t matter here. I have no words to explain how horrible the experience was. Being from hospitality background myself, at a point I just felt shame on the staff. Absolute shame on hospitality!

Food was really nice, very tasty. Only issue we had was trying to find a place to park when collecting as it’s double yellows outside but we managed and the food and service was excellent. Will definitely order again when we are back in the area

I have been to Shapla quite a few times over the past years and always enjoyed the food and the view out over the river Ness. So when we were up in Inverness recently, it was a given that we would go there for a curry. The restaurant wasn't too busy despite it being Father's Day. Other restaurants in the town were full to overflowing and there were a good number of tourists in town as well. We ordered starters and mains, along with a garlic naan, basmati rice and a tarka daal from a waiter who looked as though he wished he was elsewhere - absolutely no sense of customer service. One of the mains delivered to the table was the wrong dish. We alerted the waiter right away and rather than believing us there ensued a bit of a debate and checking of the order before the offer to take it away and cook a new dish. However, as we all wanted to eat at the same time we reluctantly accepted the dish. At the end of the meal, we reminded the staff of the issue, expecting a small reduction/discount but instead a slight arguement ensued. Eventually, and most reluctantly, we received a small discount from the overall bill. The food was average at best. The service was less so. I shall have to think carefully before returning.

Honestly we don’t understand why this place has bad reviews and only 3.5 stars. The food is excellent, super friendly and personable staff, great atmosphere with a great view on the second floor of the building. The seating is not cramped and very comfortable. 5 stars all around. Don’t let the negative reviews deter you if you’re a fan of Indian food. Hassan was our server and very attentive. We’ve been here multiple times and will be coming back.

terrible. i cannot believe i spent money on this!!!!!! i ordered butter chicken expecting at LEAST decent chicken, NO. I got rotten chicken! Moreover, the sauce was basically curry. without the spice. My INDIAN friend ordered chana masala expecting good chickpeas and a spicy sauce. Instead, she got bad quality chick peas along with potatoes, peas and carrots coated with a sugar syrup. the salt was NOT present. the spices were NOT present. happiness was not present and neither was satisfaction.

Such a disappointment this restaurant! We came with my husband yesterday ( 28 December 2023) to have a meal. The place itself is tired, lack of taste, smelly. The food wasn’t great, not fresh, just warmed up in the microwave.Poor presentation of food, the waiter just dropped the food on our table. Staff attitude was the worst ever I saw in my life! Rude, no smiling and we had an impression that we are being ignored. At some point the rude waiter ( after collecting the plates) , came to our table and start cleaning up, spraying bloody dettol cleaning spray, spreading the chemical on our drinks, clothes and phones, without asking we maybe want a dessert before he starts his stupid action! What is more I had a feeling the attitude of the staff is racist. Such a bad place ! Please if you plan to eat something in Inverness, don’t come there, mc Donald or sandwich from Tesco would be hell better choice that this awful and creepy “restaurant “!

Lamb Vindaloo was incredible! Good level of spice and amazing flovour. The waiter even brought me some extra spicy sauce to try because I said it could have a little extra heat. Really worth a try as I believe they should have at least a 4.5 average, but for me, they get 5 star!!

One of the worst restaurant I have ever been in my life. Shapla Restaurant in Inverness was a disappointing experience. The food lacked flavor and freshness, the service was slow and inattentive, and the overall atmosphere was uninviting. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone seeking a satisfying dining experience. Staff behaviour was worst and was kind of rasist. We were asked to seat in corner even though the whole restaurant was empty. No was attending to us and the food was pathetic. I am sharing this experience from visit to Inverness during August 2021.

On a business trip in Inverness and went past Shapla, so thought let's give it a try. Was pleasantly surprised with the food and service was very good. Lamb Jalfrezi was brilliant with the steamed soft lamb. The Chicken Butter Curry was nice, smooth and very tasty. Basmati Pilau rice was nice and soft but the Garlic Nan was ok, nothing special. The owner was very hospitable, came and spoke to us and made us feel very welcome. Will visit again next time we're in Inverness.

Waste of money, staffs are very rude. When you dine in here staffs attitude is like they are giving you food as a charity. Indian Food quality is very bad. I ordered biryani and they gave me yellow rice with veg curry. I asked for Raita and they gave me simple curd. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE.

Got a takeaway tonight from the Shapla in Inverness. Collected it at the reataurant and took it to our hotel. A tandoori mixed grill with fried rice and naan bread. We could hardly chew the food as it was so tough. The fried rice was full of onions and the "curry' sauce was a "vegetable curry sauce" which was disgusting! Just a pile of veg in some sort of gravy, certainly NOT a curry sauce. All in all a terrible meal! Went into the bin! A waste of £20!!
