Taro in Lambeth

Had a fabulous Bento box for lunch here . Chicken teriyaki and sushi and sashimi were all delicious. Casual atmosphere and friendly staff makes this a really great local restaurant

We love Taro. A consistent and reasonably priced local favourite. The food is always great - both in house and delivery - and the staff always helpful. Their udon noodle soup is the best we’ve had in London and their Sushi also holds its own.

Absolutely brilliant! Delicious sushi. Beautiful presentation. Friendly service. Reasonable prices. Can’t wait to return and suggest everyone go there.

Having lived in Japan for over 5 years I'm probably pickier than some diners but this is the third (and probably last) time we've had a very average meal here. The sushi rice on our chirashi-sushi was an odd temperature and flavour, and when I asked for a very simple, normally widely available sushi roll made with pickled plum and perilla leaf (ume-shiso-maki, delicious!), they looked completely puzzled, even when I explained, and the chef, equally confused and disinterested, just looked over an said no with a grumpy look. Most Japanese restaurants that are authentic would a) have this dish, and b) if they didn't, at least be polite about the fact they didn't have it instead of giving the customer a gruff brush off. The sashimi on the rice was also cut in a hap hazard way so the presentation was very basic. Am not saying it was really bad, that would be unfair, but overall the experience was a disappointment and certainly there is very little that feels authentic Japanese about this place, which is a suprise, given that the owner is Japanese, whom I remember from the Soho branch, from years back. Maybe they have expanded too quickly and the quality control has gone. Either way, I won't be going back as it's not cheap given the quality of food and presentation.

Excellent food, service and price. Go for the duck teriyaki, it's excellent. The place is often very busy so book in advance.

A short walk from Kennington station and Kennington Park. The staff were welcoming and smiley right from the start to us leaving. We went to Taro for late lunch on a Friday. We ordered the Tempura Prawn, Balham Roll, Unagju and Salmon Teriyaki Don. Look forward to returning to try some more sushi, their ramen and dessert.

This was a regular restaurant and we've ordered take aways from here many times - but NEVER again. We popped in for an afternoon meal on a Sunday, and the waiter accidentally spilled an entire glass of diet coke all over my partner, soaking his clothes and shoes - socks and the inside of the (brand new) shoes were saturated. Then the food he was then served was stone cold. By this time I didn't particularly feel like finishing my meal, either. We had to wait ages for a replacement. We were left feeling awkward - nobody senior made any effort to speak with us. There was a minimal apology - but only service charge taken off the bill. Still charging us for drinks and all the food. A really disappointing meal. We won't be back.

We really enjoyed our first visit to Taro, Kennington. There was a wide range of food available, all 5 dishes we ordered were really good, the food was plentiful and the prices very reasonable. We were intrigued to discover deep-fried sushi rolls and they were really nice. We will definitely be going back again!

Great birthday meal with a large group of friends. Highlight was the bento boxes - chicken teryaki is one of the best I've had. portion size is really good too (apart from the sushi I'd say) but depends on how hungry you are! We all had lots to take away with us. Looking forward to coming back soon!

Good food good service. The ramen and noodle has lots of food enough for a lunch! Also the waitress are very nice

We have ordered many times on Deliveroo. Very good value and nice flavor. A bit too sweet for us but in general you can ask them to keep the sauce seperately. Love to come back!

Completely adore this restaurant. As a resident of Kennington, this restaurant never fails to hit the spot! Service good, restaurant is welcoming, staff friendly and the food is just incredible (especially the chicken katsu curry) I will continue to regularly come to this fave local hotspot!

I am a regular takeaway customer, I moved to the area recently. I love the food of TARO good rate value for money. After a long period of lockdown, we decided to go to eat at the restaurant instead order a takeaway. The food was delicious but the service at the table MUST be improved. The service was absolutely not rude but long and the waiters were not so focused on the clients. Was not busy, was already 9 pm the restaurant was almost empty but a lot of delivery. I will come back for sure and I will advise to my friends coming to eat. You deserve a good review but please get a better trainer to your young waiter. See you soon

Tonight after being let down twice by Deliveroo I’ve decided to place my order for the 3rd time directly to Taro Restaurant. I was served over the phone by Alice. She took care of my order and kindly provided me with her personal mobile phone to pass it to an Uber taxi driver to pick up my order. The food was amazing, generous portions and properly made. It’s definitely the best Japanese food I ever had in the UK. Alice is a valuable member of staff and a great ambassador for Taro Restaurant. She was very professional and friendly. Maurício Freitas

So happy to find this new branch of Taro in Kennington. Brand new venue so everything is all clean and shiny, not like some of the other places. The food and serine were fantastic especially the Chicken Teri Don. Can’t wait to go back again.
