Curry updon does not taste good at all. The noodle is too soft, sauce is slimy and not fresh.

I can’t believe I’ve never reviewed this place. Been eating here for a decade and lemme tell you, it’s my Death Row Meal. Their tofu don? Astounding. One of those in my belly and I could die happy.

The staff was rude, asking if we were going soon when I was not finished my dishes; it was not even Friday or the weekend. Sushi was alright.

Quite disappointed 🙁 The place is busy, warm and cosy. I ordered a seafood ramen. The waitress couldn't really say what sort of seafood was inside. And yes it's mixed seafood like £3-5 mixed seafood from a cheap supermarket. The broth was rather too sweet. Definitely would not recommend it to any Asian who loves and knows what Japanese food tastes like.

Oh dear, we know this place had many great meals here. We knew it would be busy so we actually booked. Arrived at the restaurant to be steered to a table for two in the middle of the restaurant with an extra chair plonked on one side. There was barely elbow room ridiculous we left.

Super sushi & katsu curry! Gyozas 10/10 also! Friendly service

I come here for the way they make their Terriyaki chicken bento ( Chicken Teri Don) Crispy chicken on a layer of bean sprouts and other vegetables, on top of rice. Covered with a delicious terriyaki sauce. The crispy texture is fantastic exactly what I am after to bring interest to the rest of the soft ingredients. Authetic? arguably may not be but I wouldnt have it any other way. Thru also have a spicy version but have not tried it. The prawn gyoza was good too. No crispy bottom but it didnt need it when eaten with the crispy chicken in the Terriyaki. Was sat at the bar as I was by myself this time and can get a little crowded there. Lots of action to watch in the kitchen.

Taro was a great and easy place to eat in Soho! It's not the super high end place, more neighborhood style.

Great Japanese family restaurant, I have been coming to this restaurant for 20 years now. I love chicken teriyaki don, my favourite.

I love Taro restaurants, and food is amazing. However, I had a booking for two in Soho, and they did not give me the table because my friend was a bit late. Then, they sat me at the back of the restaurant. Just awful. It looked like I am having dinner in their kitchen/storage room. They did make it right after having an argument with two of the staff members, but that's just not right.

Sticky floor, sticky table and sticky soy sauce bottle. I don’t know why I stayed, probably because I didn’t have lunch and it was 3pm. Food was below par, sashimi not fresh. Please avoid

We went there quite randomly, we just saw the menu and decided to give it a try. It was a good surprise! Ramen, katsu, Takoyaki, all were fine and well prepared. Good service and nice people there.

Outstanding. The food was so delicious. We had tonkatsu curry with udon noodles and the duck bento box. Plus chicken gyozas and deep fried prawns as sides. Great food, service, atmosphere and price.

Great food, but a tad expensive

Decent place to eat in a good location. You must have a reservation in advance as it is full, especially in the evening. The flavors are incredible and the service is very kind.

Had a bento box for the first time ever, and really enjoyed it. The menu had lots of great options, and the service was good too. Will definitely be coming back! :)

Great food - very friendly service and honestly, a fabulous Tonkotsu Ramen and perfect Ebi Gyoza. My kids are the ultimate judges of Chicken Teriaki and Chicken Katsu and both loved it, whilst the tuna roll was perfect according to my wife! This is quick, accessible Japanese food at a decent price - you won't find better at this price in Soho or the surrounding area.

The miso soup was very watery and bland. Quite disappointing. The eel sushi were good, but in terms of the filling - on a primitive side. Just a block of rise and the fish glued on with a piece of nori. But that might have been the intention In any case, it wasn't too bad but I definitely expected a richer tastes from the Japanese cuisine. Oh, the service was very good, despite the place being full

Always excellent service and high quality food. My delicious beef, rare, was Angus Scotland. I enjoy sitting on a bar stool watching the chefs at work. It's a comprehensive menu and so with so many choices it's often v busy.

Had prawn gyoza and chicken katsu curry here today. Service was quick but a little brusque. Prawn gyoza's were well fried but nothing to write home about. Chicken Katsu curry was decent chicken with a very large portion of rice and sauce. It was a bit too loud in there, I couldn't hear myself nor my friend. I do like their playful logo. Ideal lunch place for someone working in the area.

Very crowded and noisy. We were all squashed on a table for 4 because they wanted to fill all the chairs up instead of giving us a table of 5. They rush you to leave as soon as you're finished eating. Maybe a better option for lunch or a quick bite but there are definitely better options elsewhere for the same price.

Delicious Teriyaki beef bento was amazing

First time here, what a find it was, will definitely be coming back, staff were great and very accommodating, the food....the food was amazing! Add it to your list!

Staff are all friendly and the atmosphere itself is ok, however the quality of food is terrible and doesn’t deserve the prices. Edamame was boiled too hard, miso soup was too salty, tempura batter was thick like pancake, sushi roll was cut too big and not tasty, sashimi salmon tasted refrigerator small. The taste of Yakisoba was awful.

Best chicken teri don in town. I'd come to London just to eat here. It's quite crowded during the rush hour, but the staff will make sure your plate comes quickly. Also very cheap

Simple but welcoming place, where you are spoiled for choice when it comes to Japanese dishes. Very rich menu and quality food. The prices are also not high, so it's a perfect place to spend a chill evening.

easily the worst japanese food i’ve had in london, the quality of ingredients was terrible. rice was very poor, fish was definitely frozen, tempura was heavy and soft rather than light and crispy (as it should be). the yakitori were appalling, definitely frozen. to add insult to injury the plate was £20 and was completely inedible. we ended up sending it back.

My husband made me discover this incredible place - it is always full. They have one of the bests, if not the best, chicken and chicken katzu curry with noodles ever tried! If you have never been there, find time and go.. you will not regret it! Also, I would advise the owner to do some work inside the local, it would need some refreshment, particularly the toilets.

24/5/24- Friday. I rarely give back reviews to the restaurant. My interest in helping people who see my posts. This is the worst Japanese restaurant I have ever been to. 1st, the waiter, in my post. The way he served customers is. He could not come to the door where the sign said. Wait to be seated. He just raised his hand and waved at me. Like calling a dog. Disgusting service. I walked up to him. I told him a table for ONE person. He told me that the restaurant is fully booked and that there were several empty tables for 2 people. I told him. I am ordering a lot of several dishes therefore I need a small table to sit in. He instructed me to sit at the bar table with high chair where being a 67 year old lady, Petite size to climb on the high stool. Seriously? I know my spending for a meal would be more than 2 people's meals as I like food tasty whenever I go for a meal. I insisted on having a table, explaining to this waiter again. He showed me to a corner just next to the bar where drinks were made and dirty dishes collected to the bar. With all the culinary noises. I took the seat comfortably and didn't want to make a fuss. He brings the menu. Before I can even open the menu. He took out a pen and his order book. Asking me what would I like to order. I say, to him in a polite way. Please could you give me a minute to see what your menu got to order me the taste of Japanese food. He walked away with a very rude, angry face. I feel his assumption of me eating cheap food. I was not very happy at this time. Later, I called the lady to take my order. When it comes to the receipt. I was very disappointed that the receipt was not properly itemised. When I insisted and asked the waiter ( another waiter ) twice. He came back with the scribbled ordered receipt. The food is not cheap either. I can get a better, fresher sushi from the Japanese centre/market just 5 minutes walk from this restaurant. The food, especially the sashimi. The eels will so badly sliced and presented. It just put off my appetite. The california handroll. ( see from my post ) was so plain, and simply play on the dushe that a piece of the california roll was litteraly falling out the plate, touching the table🤮. I would never, ever recommend this restaurant to anyone. There are better Japanese restaurants just walking distance from this restaurant. I spent £69.10 which I shouldn't pay for service charge. But I pay without a fuss.

Cozy, small place with delicious Asian food in the heart of Soho. Didn't spend a lot of money.

Very loud place with waiters walking around almost trying to avoid making eye contact not to serve you. The worst part was the food, sadly. Everything was flat and overly salty. Especially the duck don was basically inedible. It's a shame because I was expecting more, so I won't be returning.

I’ve been here a few times and find the food itself and portion sizes great. Definitely my go to food spot in Soho.

We went to this restaurant on a Thursday evening and even though we didn't have a reservation they let us sit anyway. Everything was excellent, from the efficient and helpful service to the food, tasty, served with care and with good flavour. Fair prices. I absolutely recommend it.

Food was good but the waitress without my approval decided to make me pay in EUR instead of GBP 🙁🙁 wish I had paid in gbp

Fantastic, authentic Japanese food in the middle of London. This is a no-frills, fast service, ‘eat and free up your seat’ kind of place. The portions are generous and our bento boxes were delicious. It’s not cheap, but nothing is in Soho: 2 bento boxes and a bottle of sparkling water cost us £49.20.

Japanese restaurant with good food at very competitive prices

Food was really good. This is an easy, hands down, hell yes do it, kind of recommendation. No regrets. There's a lot of food in a bento box, so go hungry. The atmosphere is a bit crazy, not the kind of place to have an in-depth convo, but tbh that's not a bad thing if you're concentrating on the food.

Difficult to comment on this place because there are good and not so good BUT it does exactly what it's supposed to do. It's a canteen so it's never going to be a fine restaurant but the seats are very very close together. I know it's trying to give an authentic feel, but we are not actually in Japan are we! The price is reasonable and the food is of a ok standard although all of our dishes could've been hotter. It's good for the money. There was also a smell of the toilet if you sit at the top of the stairs which is a definite minus point and can go ignored. It's an ok place and worth a visit if you're in the area because it's ok value for money but there are certainly better places to go first.

It's just the best place in town for great, no fuss, Japanese fusion. I've been going for the best part of 25 years and still love it.

Very tight spacing and it’s 80% always busy. Me and my partner come here at least once a month MINIMUM. Service is good and food comes out in a decent amount of time - duck don & the chicken teriyaki is SOOO GOOOOOD. We absolutely love coming here and we will never get bored of this place.

Duck Don 10/10 Lovely food, reasonable price and good portions. Soft drinks were reasonable value. Service was also speedy.

Great Brazilian restaurant in the heart of Soho, with excellent variety and service. All the waiters were attentive, especially Helbert. We will be back soon!!

The staff was very helpful and friendly when I needed to make a large booking for a Saturday night. The food was pretty good, but not the best Japanese food in town. I had the chicken katsu curry and the chicken was over cooked. Portion sizes were very reasonable.

When I want to eat raw fish, I go to Chirashizushi here. The best material compared to Japan! I wouldn't go so far as to say that, but I'm satisfied with the seafood you can eat in the UK. The rice is also vinegared properly. Chirashi sushi is also less than 15 pounds per person if you choose the menu, and even the more expensive chirashi sushi is less than 20 pounds, which is not bad considering that you can eat raw fish in the UK.

I was so excited and hyped to go to this restaurant as I’ve seen the reviews and videos on Tiktok…We were able to book at a table for 6pm and although i was only 5 minutes late, my friends arrived on time so we were able to secure the booking. To my disappointment we were seated a 2 seater table - which is the standard one table with 2 seats whilst mine was wedged on the middle. Bear in mind, the whole small restaurant had no-one seated like this. I then kindly asked if we were able to get moved, and they said no as there were other bookings. I thought, fair enough however on this evening, there were multiple 2 people who had a 4 table seating to themselves, where they were even able to use the spare seat as a bag! Understand there’s multiple bookings however: A) Since you had pointed out there was multiple bookings, why would you not accommodate to three people, when clearly you were able to seat 2 people in a four people table? B) Multiple bookings should already make you aware, given that the restaurant is quite small to know how you can fit everyone in multiple tables efficiently and not cram a group of us? C) We came on time, I can understand if there was a 15-30 minute delay and you couldn’t secure the booking table for us if we were very late, however I was only 5 minutes late and the rest of my friends came on time. This would hardly class as being extremely late when it comes to bookings in general. My friends and I then left as we could not believe the service and how one of the staff we were speaking to was unwilling to even see reason with us. Would not recommend if you cannot even compromise at all, disappointed is just one word of many on how I would describe our experience.

Perfect for Solo or Dates, wouldn’t recommend for groups if it’s during busy times as it can get very crowded. The food is impeccable though my go to place to eat, never fails to fill me up. Always satisfied with the food here, service amazing too, quick sitting time haven’t had to wait too long here & they take orders fast. Recommend the Duck Don just impeccable!

Despite being a regular customer every time I pass through London, this last visit left a bad taste in my mouth. The sashimi was frozen and the defrosting times were not respected, presenting a product that was too cold and somewhat hard that did not allow it to be properly savored.

I have to say that I’m quite disappointed with the food here. I ordered the special Taro Bento box £20 ish. The fried chicken was dry and not so fresh. The chicken skewers were just from frozen pre-made products. The sushis were slightly better but no better quality than the Daily Sushi. The sashimi were alright, you wouldn’t be able to taste the freshness. I’m glad that I didn’t get sick from it. The better thing is the shrimp tempura. The service was ok but I don’t think it’s good enough for service charge. Overall the food was with quite some MSG, we got really thirsty for the whole day. Come around 2:30pm, there will be seats!

We go to Taro Soho often as we know we will get delicious Japanese food at very reasonable prices. The staff are attentive and friendly and we’d recommend Taro to anyone who wants a great meal and experience in the heart of London’s West End

The Taro’s Special Bento was amazing.

i love this place! it was strongly recommended to me by multiple people and this was my second time as the first was so good. the taro soup is unbeatably good, the portion size is perfect. i've tried chicken katsu bento box before and it was amazing, this time i got the taro soup and kokorre (sp?) and they were both great in flavour and the taro soup in size even though they're only sides! the staff are patient, although seemed to want us to speed up when it was getting packed. it's often like that and specific hours and obviously the speed and quality of service will decline (not of the food!) so i'd strongly recommend avoiding 6pm ish- also because it's small they run out of seats so i'd recommend booking if you're very keen to get a place. in a lovely area and it's always super clean, and you can watch the chefs at work which is always cool!

The Beef Bento is not just delicious but also generous in portion, making sure you leave satisfied. Their sushi selection? Incredible. They've got everything from the classics to some unique finds that'll have your taste buds dancing. And let's talk about the Salmon Sashimi – it's like it jumped straight out of the sea onto your plate; so fresh! Heads up though, this place gets packed during peak times. Do yourself a favor and book ahead to skip the long wait. Trust me, it's worth planning for. Service could improve and thus I took out 1 star.

This place has such a brilliant menu, I love coming here. I am a pescetarian, and there's good options for me. They make the sushi there so it is freshly made and taste great. They bring out your food when it's ready so they don't really do the traditional starter then main. Every time I go, I try something different as there's so much choice. It's worth the money and I recommend it to everyone. You should definitely book a table as it's so busy all the time.

After waiting in line for 4 minutes, we were taken to a table for 2 people. It's a bit cramped, but the food is delicious. I recommend it. I forgot to take a picture 😀

Good thing we booked! It's a small restaurant but it's packed full and they make sure they use every inch of the place. We were a table of 7 and all of us got the beef ramen because a friend said it was the best...and it was! The meat was tender and the broth was amazing. We got a few starters to share, the chicken Karaage was nice and crispy and the gyouza were really good too. I don't remember what filling of gyouza we got, only 1 portion was vegetarian but I don't remember if the rest was pork or chicken tbh. The ice cream mango mochi at the end were also really good, totally recommend

A great, busy restaurant in the heart of soho. A big menu, and portions are of a good size too. Dishes come at different times, but there was only a 3-4min wait between my main course and my friend's arriving. Window seat allows you to watch soho life, but the world also watches you eat. Plenty of seats inside to avoid that viewing though!

Hmm.. I went after reading the review and I think that’s it. Once I took my order, they were friendly. We finished eating 20 minutes after it came out and chatted while drinking drinks, but the atmosphere seemed to tell us to leave while clearing the plates.. Considering the prices in London, the food quality is just fine. The food in the picture is the representative menu. The fries are soggy hahaha and they don't have any crunchiness. The price is over 30,000 won. If you must go here, don't eat the bento special, which is their signature menu item. It cost about 170,000 won for a family of four. However, that does not mean that the seats are comfortable or the atmosphere is good. If it were in Korea, this store would have gone bankrupt a long time ago.

A firm favourite in the local area. Taro serves the best food for this price point. Delicious and filling great for hungry tourist, locals and workers. Almost always crowded so don't come here to linger.

No puedo decir que la comida fuera mala, pero la experiencia de comer casi en la trastienda con todo el jaleo de camareros y platos sucios que eso supone fue muy desagradable. Lo que esperaba que fuera un motivo de celebración (me habían recomendado el sitio y había reservado con antelación) se convirtió en una pesadilla. Pero da igual que reserves o no, si vienes solo con una persona te pondrán en la peor mesa, prima por encima el ganar dinero de grupos más grandes que la atención al cliente incluso si tienes reserva. Nada recomendado para grupos pequeños y te levantan en cuanto has terminado de comer. Y nada barato para el servicio que se da.

What a delicious meal. I go to Taro anytime I am around Soho, because I cannot resist their fabulous dishes, they bring me back there every now and then.

Always had a soft spot for Taro, the katso and teriyaki don dishes are staples. Great spot and the Bentos are another level, good value for what you get.

Love this places food, once visited 5 years ago and was glad I could find it again on a recent trip to London :)

This kitchen opens itself to the dining room with an unpretentious approach that is reflected in its tasty and affordable menu. You will come away fully refreshed. If you sit at one of the five bar stools overlooking the cooks, you'll find yourself making plans for your next visit. It has been a must stop for me in London since I first read the five star reviews eight years ago.

What a brilliant place for supper! Sitting at the bar and watching the cooks prepare the curries and sushi was a great dinnertime spectacle. The staff were lovely and didn't rush us. Portions were big and decently priced. We had the vegetable bento box which was 10/10 and the katsu curry (which was good but I wouldn't order again because there's definitely better stuff on the menu). Thank you for the great evening!
