Taormina in Crawley

Me and my partner came here on 13.02.24 for an early Valentines Day dinner and we had a lovely experience. I had to push my reservation back twice and they were more than happy to do so. By the time we got there we were the only people in the restaurant but they did not try to hurry us at all, the staff were all very jolly and accommodating, one of the waitresses even took a few photos for us. The food was lovely and so was the whole experience. Would recommend to anybody who is looking for nice, authentic Italian food.

Second visit to this lovely family run business, from thd beggining to the end they were always attentive, we were 7 of us and we all loved it , Tiramisu to die 4 , i think i can safely say we love Da Nico Crawley, highly recommended

We were first through the door on a Sunday night and my wife ordered the meatballs, only to be told 5 minutes later that they weren't available. An Italian restaurant that, on opening, can't provide meatballs. That's like Shakespeare being unable to write a play. Our starters were delivered early enough to make us think that they were reheated, and this was repeated with the Lasagne, which had obviously been reheated in a microwave given the appearance of the cheese on the top. The staff weren't particularly welcoming, and the whole experience was just very mediocre. Definitely not deserving of its high ratings and reviews on Trip Advisor.

I should have checked the wine list before ordering rather than assuming the website had the correct updated list. I asked for the house champagne (£47 on their website) but was only offered Moet (£62 on their website) or Veuve Clicquot (£75 on the website) - I ended up with Moet as I didn't want to make an issue in front of my friend. They charged £85 for Moet!!!!! Shocked is an understatement so I will never make that mistake again - always check the wine list on the day! We were told the wait for food could be a while as there were a couple of Christmas parties which was fine by us. The food arrived quite quick to be fair however both our pastas (and the plates they was servered on) were quite cold - disappointing. My friend's chicken was warm so that didn't make much sense having cold pasta with a hot chicken on the same plate. Also I believe my pasta was too al dente, only just but it was rather on the hard side and I like my pasta al dente. My friend enjoyed her profiteroles. Would not go back I'm afraid.

Warm welcome at the door to a bright and trim restaurant that has a natural ambience of busy but personal. From the moment of sitting you are made to feel like you're the only table that matters, this was a nice touch. Of the 4 of us, 3 were drinking alcohol, we simply asked for the House White which was fit for purpose. I'd heard the starters were quite large so we opted for 3 of the 'Nibbles' options, these were only plenty big enough to suit us. Do try the deep fried rice balls, they are lovely. We had mains of Pizza, Spaghetti frutti di mare, Fillet Steak and Pollo Funghi. Steak was ordered Rare, it arrived, Rare. As the most expensive dish, this was the most important. They were keen to check it was OK very soon after first cut. The ongoing service was excellent, attentive and polite. Conversation was made but not in an intrusive way and we were never interrupted if in conversation with each other. That is the sign of a good host. Everything was clean, and heavy cloth napkins are a very nice touch. Water is already on the table and refilled without asking. I was not drinking alcohol, so had the Bud Blue zero. I'd have maybe liked one or two more options on that particular point but it certainly didn't spoli anything. We sat for nearly 2 hours, taking it at our pace and the bill for 4 adults was £162. We feel that was very reasonable as the food was fresh and of superb quality. The sauce for the Chicken was divine, with mushroom that actually had a stronger taste. We opted for the Peppercorn sauce with the Steak which was also fantasic. The Potato and Veg sides served with the main were plentful and hot. We will be going back. 👍

We booked this restaurant for a meal before we went to the theatre and what a lovely restaurant. The owner nico and all the staff made us so welcome Italian style. We had starters that were very good and we had fillet steak that was excellent and the fish dish. The atmosphere was very warm and inviting. The food was excellent and wine list very good. Excellent Italian food and great service! What a nice Italian restaurant: food is very fresh and very Italian. Starters are generous, calamari are delicious, well cooked and not oily at all. Typical Italian dishes: veal dishes, chicken with mushroom and white wine sauce, very tasty, great pasta choices and pizzas. Desserts are delicious too and unique. Recommend the rum baba and pana cotta. Service is great, with a smile and attention. Perfect for special occasions or even a nice treat. Prices are reasonable. We used Da Nico restaurant for an important business meal with 25 guests with a range of dietary requirements. Da Nico's excelled themselves in catering for our meal - the quality of the food was first rate and the waiting staff were attentive, friendly and professional. The meals were served promptly and all cooked to perfection, despite them having to cope with such a huge order. Thank you Nico (again); we will be back as soon as we can!

Enjoyed a calamari starter, padrino pizza and rum baba here in this nice Italian restaurant- food was great, service very good, checking if needed more drinks. Recommended

My husband and I were due to see a film at Cineworld in Crawley and wanted a change of where to eat, rather than a chain restaurant or fast food. We were really pleased with my suggestion! The food was delicious …. we had the Arancinetti for starter, which were lovely and fresh (risotto balls with tomato and mozzarella). My husband had the spaghetti and meatballs for the main, and I had one of the pizzas. The dough for the pizza was lovely and light. I couldn’t finish all of the pizza as it was a very generous size, so asked for it to be boxed up and I had the remainder for lunch the following day. Thanks for the great service!

Went here last night for a meal. Booked a few weeks in advance just to be sure. I lovely restaurant and really pleasant staff who are very friendly and knowledgeable. A good menu and the food was delicious. We spent started with bruschetta and Arrancinni and I had the spaghetti and meatballs, which were very delicious. Would recommend. If you’re looking for parking, you can use the Asda which is close by

by far the best restaurant in crawley, and the staff at Da Nico are friendle and very accommodating, the king prawns are to die 4 , and the seafood pasta its delicious, would highly recommend

Had a very enjoyable lunch, here, on Sunday. Excellent food (especially the canolo siciliano) and friendly, efficient service. We don't live in Crawley but it was worth the journey and we'll certainly be visiting this superb restaurant, again

One of the greatest Restaurants in Crawley not too far from the train station or bus 10 min walking distance, amazing food and service, everything was delicious and very tasty, everything in the menu sound Italian, plus they have a very particular dishes like “ orecchiette “ or rum baba or the best “ cannolo “ and arancini Perfect also if you are vegan 5 star ⭐️ Dani :)

This is a first class authentic Italian restaurant and I couldn't have been more impressed. Don't be put off by the surroundings - once inside it's a completely different story. The restaurant was full at 7.30 (good sign), tables were being flipped for a second sitting (even better sign), the staff were super friendly and the service was excellent. Not so fast that you didn't have time to enjoy it, but we never felt like we were waiting for our food. The owner is enthusiastic, welcoming and a great host. Don't even think of going to the high street Italian chains - I would definitely recommend you go here.

Met up with some friends for a meal here was so surprised at how lovely it was inside . Large menu plenty to choose from .The food is lovely and fresh tasted authentic. Would recommend the arancini was delicious. In fact all of our food was so tasty .They also have a good wine list .The staff are excellent you never felt hurried it fact it was so relaxing we were in there for over 3 hours . Found out they even have special nights with live singing . This is a great place if you want a cosy meal for two or a special occasion.

I have eaten here twice now, once in the evening and again at lunch time today. The evening menu and lunch menu are the same but they do have a lunchtime special price, sorry but I can't remember what it was. The first time my partner and I ate here it was in the evening. He had a Calzone Taormina, which was a folded pizza with mozzarella, tomato, mushrooms, spinach, mascarpone & ham and I had the Fiocchi pere e gorgonzola which was parcels of pasta filled with pears, gorgonzola sauce and wild rocket . Both were cooked beautifully and were really delicious although being a cheese lover I could have tolerated a bit more gorgonzola in the pasta. We had a bottle of house red at £17.95, it was eminently drinkable and of good quality. I also went here for lunch today. my sister had the Fiocchi pere e gorgonzola which she thoroughly enjoyed and I had the San Daniele Pizza which comprised Mozzarella, tomato, Parma ham, rocket & parmesan cheese. I couldn't eat it all but it was boxed up for me to take home. A lovely evening meal and a great lunch, I would highly recommend and I will be returning.

I live in Essex but two of my friends are Sussex based so I was looking into Italian restaurants in that area.What a find this restaurant wasWent Saturday lunchtime so not crowded but had a few people in. Staff were really friendly and made to feel very welcome as soon as we walked in.The food was outstanding and generous portions. Smoked Salmon for starters followed by Sea bass fillets with baby prawns. Could not fault anything. Will be back for sure when I am down that way again.Highly recommend

We have been going to Taormina since before Lock Down but, of course, things changed in March. We've been three times since the restaurant reopened for business and each time has been excellent.If you go and you like mussels, do try their mussels in a spicy sauce as a starter. It ticks all the boxes. My favorite starter is the prawns in a goats cheese and tomato sauce. It sounds like it just shouldn't work but, believe me, it does! It is delicious. I'm not a pizza eater but my husband is and he rates Taormina pizzas highly. There is a good selection for the non-pizza eaters too. Lots of pasta dishes, including vegetarian plus a good selection of meat and fish with a side of vegetables for those who prefer something other than pasta or pizza. Taormina took part in the Eat Out to Help Out Scheme which ended yesterday (31st) so we were very surprised and pleased to find a note on the table announcing that they are planning to self fund and continue a similar scheme throughout September. On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday they are making a 30% discount up to £7.50 per person. This is at a cost to themselves, not funded by the government. Well done to you!We shall both be looking forward to visiting again very soon.

Visited this place after years, and found an absolute gem! Great Italian food. Was very very busy due to it being the last day of eat out to help out, but the service was still good. Best of all, the place is 100% halal! Will definitely be coming back!

The best Italian in Crawley. Once again Nick and his team have excelled. On a busy Wednesday during the eat out to help out scheme he worked tirelessly to look after our table and ensure we had a great night. His attention to detail and desire to look after us was reflected as he constantly kept us informed throughout the evening. The food was, as it always is, fantastic and a great night was had by all.

I had a meal here with friends this evening and could not fault it (which is saying a lot for me) although the restaurant was fully booked every single member of staff was friendly and incredibly attentive. The wine selection was excellent, the food was simply delicious and reasonably priced. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this restaurant.

Went on Thursday as guessed they'd be very busy at the start of the week. Absolutely cannot fault anything, food, wine, service. Have eaten here a number of times and wouldn't hesitate to reccommend. I hope we have many more meals with you

Excellent service and food took my five children here tonight for a for a lovely meal not sure what the previous review was all about with the service charge and children comment as at the end of the day surely this is down to the parents responsibility to control their own child and not the responsibility of the restaurant and it’s lovely to see that everyone is made to feel welcome and everyone was looked after and treated equally and made to feel welcome like family and I look forward to eating at the restaurant again very soon.

We booked online via the Tripadvisor link. Quite a few customers during the time we were dining.Really nice surroundings, pleasant professional staff, and most importantly, very appetising food with generous portions. We had the mussels and the mozzarella salad to start. Fillet steak was cooked to perfection for my husband and I had the seafood pasta that had a variety of seafood and a tomato based sauce that was just so delicious.I would definitely return if I was in the area.

booked a table for a monday night . Arrived and was greated and seated . The waiter then explained that we would get up to £ 10.00 per person off as per the the goverment help out to eat out scheme . All good food was fine service was reasonable , apart from when some of the owners friends arrived and the service dipped somewhat as they tended to them . The ambience was also effected by their child running around screaming When the bill came 2 separate , one for the bottle of wine and one for the food ,Yes the £ 20.00 was knocked off , but wait for it ..................they put a massive 20% service charge on the whole combined bill ! I think it is a cheek to put on a service charge on anyway , but 20% is plain greedy . I would always leave 10%

We visited here on a quiet Saturday night, and it was beautiful. We had bread board, starters, mains and shared a dessert and the food was fantastic. Very refreshing coming away from the standard Italian chain restaurants.You could tell the food was fresh, the atmosphere in the restaurant was great thanks to the 2 waiters on duty. The man especially was very passionate, and brilliant at filling up my wine glass! We even had complimentary limoncellos with our bill.Highly recommend this little gem, we’ve already decided to come back in a couple weeks time.

Wasn't sure what to expect with a delivered meal that included steak and pasta main courses. It was fantastic! Husband is very picky about steak. Large steak done to perfection, very tender. Daughter and I shared each others pasta dishes. ( pear/cheese parcels, and broccoli/sausage. ) very nice! :)Will try again, bringing a restaurant meal to the house!

Not knowing Crawley very well, Taormina was a bit tricky to find at first, as it's tucked at one end of the High Street. (Look opposite Taj Mahal Indian restaurant if you are lost). It's a very sweet restaurant with very friendly staff, who were chatty at the right times. Sadly, with the corona virus it wasn't well attended, but I imagine would be full and buzzy at other times. The Sicilian/Italian food was very good. My friend decided on leek &potato soup and then salmon, both of which she declared delicious. I had arancinetti with a lovely tomato sauce to start with, which were great, followed by sea bass, beautifully prepared. The accompanying vegetables were very nicely cooked. Sadly, no room for the profiteroles I had seen on the menu, but maybe next time.

I had dinner here with friends on Saturday. There was a warm welcome followed by delicious food - a good selection of pasta dishes, meat and fish, plus pizzas - and good wine. The service was attentive and excellent - we were chatting a lot and were a bit slow in ordering, but there was no sense of being hurried. We will definitely be back.

We chose this restaurant for an evening meal without knowing the area. So glad we did. The food was authentic and freshly cooked to order, service was friendly and efficient, and the restaurant was nicely presented. Its just a shame that its 150 miles from home.

I’ve been going for dinner at the restaurant since it opened. Understandably staff change over the years but I’ve found since the last few visits that the staff simply aren’t as friendly. There’s a few times I’ve found staff to be outright rude, for instance, when I brought up that we had clearly been forgotten about- waiting 20 minutes to order our drinks and that was only when we had to catch one of the waiters walking by- the waiter was quite dismissive saying that they were busy, which I respect was the case but it simply wasn’t handled in the correct manner at all. Otherwise, the food has never disappointed. It’s just a shame the service doesn’t match it.

We booked a table for 6 as a reunion with a good friend and were not disappointed, The owner gives you a really warm reception and is friendly. The service is with some humour and efficient. There is a good choice of Italian food and drinks. Tables are clean and tidy and with plenty of room. It certainly filled up on a midweek with lots of repeat guests. Toilets were clean and tidy.We will certainly use this restaurant again.

I booked the restaurant in October for our work Christmas dinner (holding it in January though). I went into the restaurant to book and was advised that their diary didn't go into 2020 but they would make a note.In December I rang to make sure they still had the booking, they said that it was all confirmed, 7th January, 18:00 for 8 people. I thought that it was all OK.Today, their website says that their kitchen is closed for refurbishment until 26th January. I would have thought that this is something that was planned, and that they would contact those that had made reservations to allow us to make other arrangements? Clearly not!Such a shame as we were all looking forward to sampling the food which has produced some great reviews. However, it seems that the front of house seriously lets them down.That's at least 8 families that won't be visiting in future I'm afraid.

Popped in to the Taormina for lunch on Saturday and it was fantastic!! Lovely and clean and well set out venue with a lovely waiter that greated us with a huge smile and friendly conversation! Both my husband and I had pasta dishes and both were cooked beautifully and tasted amazing!! Good sized portions and I’ve never seen so much bacon in a carbonara!! It was yummy!! Will definitely being going back to try out their evening menu and the Friday live music!!

We have only just discovered Taormina despite living in Crawley for 3 years (note to self: must get out more!)

Its the 3rd time me and my friends visit this place and as usual the dishes were amazing. Today we got their famous aioli pasta, which is one of the best aiolis ive ever tried. Also they has live music and it made our evening even more plesant, espetially our waiter lazlo. The stafd is ULTRA nice as always. Would for sure recommend for sure

If you are in crawley and looking for a good Italian food, reasonable price and good service go there... my wife and I loved it

We visited this restaurant for the first time as a party of four. The restaurant feels very smart, with linen tablecloths and napkins. My wife and the gamberetti on toast to start, followed by the chicken tagliatelle with mushrooms, and thoroughly enjoyed her food. I started with the calamari - this was PROPER frid calamari with a very light batter and was delicious. I then had the Veal Milanese with spaghetti, and again it was very nice indeed. The other couple we were with enjoyed their food very much as well (we all had something different). House wine was reasonably proced and the overall bill was surprisingly low, even after a generous tip. The service was brilliant - attentive and friendly without being overbearing. Super restaurant overall, I am sure we will be back.
